Nation Sex-Scandal Must Now Be Viewed In New Light

There are those readers who have argued convincingly here that the way in which the alleged Nation sex scandal has been exposed is wrong and unfair to those who stand accused, and especially their immediate families.

However after the recent developments and the arrest and harassment of former nation crime editor Stephen Muiruri, the whole saga must now be viewed in new light. It is now clear that the real issue here is a fight to protect Kenyans from the power and influence of the ruling class who apparently gloat at their breakfast tables every morning as Kenyans religiously read only what they (the rich, powerful and influential ruling class) have authorized for publication and nothing more.

Recently we have for instance exposed in this blog what really happened during a recent hijacking of a Coastbus headed to Mombasa at Emali, and the rape and harassment that followed as told to us by an eyewitness who went through the whole terrifying ordeal. Why did we not read this story in our trusted daily newspapers or see it on TV? Surely the mainstream media has much more resources and expertise to cover such an incident than this small under-staffed blog?

Yet the view taken by most Kenyans on this issue of exposing the truth at all costs is really not new. When Dedan Kimathi and the Mau Mau were fighting the colonial government in the forests, there are those indigenous Kenyans whose view was that these were just dangerous thugs and killers. Some view those who would want to expose the truth, including this blogger in a similar manner, yet the war is the same because the people who came into power after that gallant fight were actually the home guards who aided the colonials in ruthlessly crashing that rebellion. And like the masters of their fathers and grandfathers, today these sons of homeguards are keen on ensuring that only what they authorize for publication is published.

For this reason, this blogger has resolved to ensure that as far as possible, no views and comments by readers in this blog will be deleted, no matter how radical and unpalatable they are. No issue no matter how sensitive will escape publication here. The last thing I want to do is follow the route that our mainstream media has followed into self-censorship.

Why We Were Duped In 2002 And How We Have Already Been Cheated For December 2007

Yesterday evening I desperately tried to stay awake as somebody slowly and in great detail tried to prove to me why at least three of the ODM-Kenya candidates are viable presidential material.

That is why I am in a bad mood this morning. Let me explain.

In recent times, I have been trying very hard to play a careful balancing act (the way boring daily newspapers do it) of treating all the candidates across the political divide equally. The idea is to ensure that all readers leave the piece feeling good that their candidate has been treated fairly.

I am getting a little sick of writing so-called balanced reviews on so-called presidential candidates that make me want to throw up. Some of them are worse killers than the late Simon Matheri because they have not only stolen from the Kenyan people but their economic crimes have caused the deaths of tens of thousands of Kenyans (Matheri's victims did no reach 100).

So today I will tell it as it is.

Time and again this blogger has been accused of being a Raila Odinga stooge, so it is only fair that I start with this gentleman.

Last night I watched with disgust as Raila Odinga who was hosted on the NTV On the spot TV show emphasized that ODM-Kenya unity was still intact. This is a blatant lie. As if the plastic smiles and show of unity was not enough, Raila is still trying hard to tell Kenyans that all is well within ODM. Host Julie Gichuru, who did an excellent job, at one point lost her cool and told the ODM founder that Kenyans were not fooled.

Really, we are not children to keep on being cheated that mum and dad are friends when we heard the pans flying across the kitchen last night and dad raising his voice. We are not children who need to be shown that mum and dad are friends for the good of our psychological upbringing. Please, spare us.

If a presidential candidate can insist on telling us lies now, what will they do when they get to State House? To make matters worse, for the next president of Kenya to be successful they will have to make some very hard choices, will he lie through it all?

This blogger has inside information that a large part of the ODM meeting between the presidential aspirants was spent daring each other to leave the party. But nobody wants to leave, so they reluctantly moved to the next agenda, which centred on how best they can bare with each other until Election Day, which mostly means finding a way to nominate a presidential candidate. Since non of these mostly self-centred, greedy politicians want to leave ODM-Kenya maybe it is time we the people left because I am going to throw up if I see those hypocrites hold hands and give out those plastic smiles, one more time. It is disgusting and abusing the intelligence of Kenyans.

Then there is Kalonzo Musyoka whose supporters have become increasingly intolerant and abusive in this blog. I tend to think that their candidate holds similar views and emotions to theirs and this is the man who wants to be president of Kenya. Here is a man who does not have the courage to vote on certain issues in the parliament and takes to hiding in the toilet (of all places), let alone attending a small demonstration outside the AG's chambers. What is the man so scared of? Do Kenyans want a spinelss president with no courage?

Here is a man who has never done a single self-less thing in his life. He stayed in Kanu when it suited HIM. And quickly left when it suited HIS best interests. Kalonzo's supporters insist that he is clean but court records (not hearsay) prove that as a practicing lawyer, he changed the ownership of a client's piece of land and forced his client to go to court to get their title deed back when they still did not realize that their land had changed hands. That is how honest and selfless the man some Kenyans want to be their president is.

These two are the cleanest candidates on offer. By the way I am not considering minor candidates here. William "YK92" should be in prison if for nothing else then for helping to impoverish Kenyans overnight by massively distributing (while also pocketing) carton-fulls of Kshs 500 notes in 1992. The same for Cyrus "YK92" Jirongo and to a lesser extent Musalia "Goldenberg Finance Minister" Mudavadi. It is laughable that the chief architect of Goldenberg Paul Kamlesh Pattni himself is also standing for president. Kwani what's with this Kenyan presidency? I'll tell you, it is license to get rich quick and avoid facing the law for your past sins.

Then there is the incumbent, Mwai Kibaki. There are those who say that the President has never recovered from his near fatal accident shortly before the 2002 polls. If this is true, then it is very scary because it raises the question; who really rules Kenya? Trust me you don't want to hear the possible answer to that question. But just to give you an idea, because of the power that goes with the office, the people who usually surround the president are greedy, dangerous, tribalistic, murderous animals. If those are the people (opps, animals) who are indeed in power and now seeking another 5 years through getting their figure head back to State House, the only thing I can say is, will the last person leaving Kenya please remember to switch off the lights.

If on the other hand it is truly Kibaki ruling, then my question is simply this? Why does an old man of around 80 years whose health is failing him want to hang on to an office that is going to see unprecedented pressures in the next 5 years? Whose interest is he serving anyway, his own or that of the country?

My fellow countrymen, that is the sad analysis of our so-called presidential candidates for 2007. The people some of us are sacrificing all for and leaving abusive remarks at sites like this one to show our loyalty to. Self-centred politicians who would care less if you or me dropped into the Indian Ocean today. Men whose only vision, the thing that keeps them going, is not a better tomorrow for Kenyans but images of them in that long dark custom-built Mercedes Banz with a long glorious motorcade waving to hungry poverty-stricken increasingly desperate Kenyans.

God help us all.
