ODM Presidential Aspirants Avoid Raila Press Conference

As events in ODM-Kenya continue to unfold, it is becoming increasingly clear despite continued assurances from party officials that all is not well and that what has most probably happened here is an internal coup of sorts.

Yesterday virtually all the ODM bigwigs failed to show up for an ODM-Kenya press conference called by Raila Odinga at Serena Hotel, where they were all supposed to have cleared the air over the London fiasco. A visibly shaken Raila downplayed the development as a worried-looking Prof Anyang Nyon'go (who was one of the few senior officials present) looked on.

Increasingly evidence is emerging to support the information leaked to this blogger earlier and published here that Raila had already been agreed on as the party flag bearer by all except Kalonzo Musyoka. It seems that last Thursday, some crafty person took advantage of the fact that Raila was not in the country and did some major mischief that has seen most of the senior party officials gang up against Raila. Some of the presidential candidates that are staying away are probably neutral but are distancing themselves from the "fracas" until the dust settles.

Interestingly, at the time that the press conference was on, Kalonzo Musyoka was addressing a meeting in Eastleigh in Nairobi. Apart from Somalia refugees, the area, as well as neighboring Mathare has a very high population of Kambas, many of them hailing from Kitui and Kalonzo's Mwingi home district.

If it is indeed true that what has happened is a coup against Raila, then it will be interesting to see how many presidential aspirants end up standing to be counted on Kalonzo's side. As I said yesterday what we have here are coups similar to the ones we used to see within the Politburo and Kremlin at the height of Russian communism. The golden rule about these kind of coups is that you never show your preference until the victor clearly emerges. The other thing about these coups is that it is virtually impossible to trace their origins and main mastermind. However the name of one Daniel Aap Moi keeps on coming up in the whispers I am hearing going on around ODM-Kenya.

Stanley "Mr Moneybags" Livondo: Is He The 'Jirongo' Of 2007?

Those of us who were around during the 1992 general elections will never forget the then Cyrus Jirongo led Youth for Kanu 92 (YK92) which literally bought Moi's re-election by bribing millions of voters ahead of those elections.

History seems to be repeating itself this time only that the players are now different, the man fighting for political survival is president Kibaki and the youthful hatchet man bestowed with the task of popularizing him is non other than the mysterious Stanley Livondo now christened Mr Money bags by the press.

Calling himself a Narc-Kenya activist, Livondo burst into the limelight about a month ago when he stormed a funeral in Ikolomani in western province in a helicopter and on landing started dishing out cash with impunity. As if that was not enough, when he took to the air to leave, he poured more cash from his chopper as mourners scrambled for it and forgot about the funeral and the nice speech by their MP Bonny Kalwale

Like Jirongo, Livondo was previously unknown and very little can be said about his background and how he came across the millions of shillings that he sees wise to rain on the poor people of Ikolomani where he also has ambitions of becoming the area MP and dethroning Dr Bonny Khalwale.

Another similarity Livondo has with Jirongo apart from both of them being Luhyias, is that they are relatively 'young' and live flambouyant and philandering lifestyles brought about by quickly acquired wealth that was hardly anticipated.

By the end of 2002, Jirongo is reputed to have had three wives and before the end of March this year, Livondo is facing a suite from a young pretty lady called Ann Waithera who claims Livondo has ditched her after getting her pregnant and now wants the courts to compel Mr Money bags to take care of child support.

She says she'd ready for a DNA test after she gives birth to prove that the activist is the father of the child. Her lawyer Daniel Maanzo (yep that\s the ODM-Kenya de-jure chairman) has moved to court for child support but many see a political hand in the all saga considering Maanzo is allied to Kalonzo Musyoka and ODM while Livondo interests are with Narc-Kenya.

What Kenyans are puzzled about is who is this guy who has come from oblivion to dish out money in a way that makes Bill Gates look like a miser yet he has no history of where it has come from and how he has made his money. Chances are that this money being dished out does not belong to him and he is simply a conduit for somebody. Could it be the ruling elite?

This brings us to the million-dollar question. Who is funding the Narc-Kenya campaign and where is the money that Mr Moneybags is raining down from choppers, coming from? Is it from Goldenberg cash, Anglo Leasing cash or is it drug money? Or could it be a fraction of the billions stacked away in foreign accounts during the Moi days which Justice Minister Martha Karua has claimed the government has been unable to receive enough assistance from Western powers to freeze? These are questions Kenyans must ask and find answers to and this blogger will always investigate to get the answers. And I will publish the gory details no matter how unpalatable they may be.
