Kenya's Tragedies and the Writing on the Wall: Lessons, Politics, and the Spirit of Rebellion

Among the many distressing events in Kenya, perhaps the most heartbreaking is the loss of young lives brimming with promise. The tragic accident involving a bus from Pwani University on the Naivasha-Nakuru highway has shocked the nation. My heartfelt condolences go out to the families and friends of those affected.

This devastating incident highlights a critical lesson for all drivers: vehicles, like all machines, are prone to sudden failure. Many young drivers in Kenya test the limits of their vehicles, assuming they are infallible. Yet, as this tragedy reminds us, overconfidence can be deadly. For instance, in cases where the engine of an automatic car fails, braking power is drastically reduced, leaving the driver with minimal control.

Revisiting the Pwani University Bus Incident

Stay tuned as I share footage of the final moments of the Pwani University bus—a poignant visual reminder of the consequences of brake failure at high speeds. Discussions on our Telegram forum have included practical advice on how to handle such situations, such as using gears to slow down when brakes fail.

The Political Parallel: Kenya's Bus Without Brakes

Kenya’s current state mirrors this tragic bus accident. The nation feels like a bus hurtling downhill, brakes failing, horn blaring, and lights flashing, yet the passengers and bystanders remain unaware or indifferent to the impending catastrophe.

Protests organized by Azimio have been met with a consistent government strategy: attempts to discredit demonstrations as violent. However, the alarming reality is that large crowds have, in some cases, overpowered security forces. This raises a crucial question: is this Raila Odinga versus the government, or is it the Kenyan people versus their leaders?

A touching moment unfolded in Mathare when mothers pleaded with police to stop firing tear gas into residential areas. In a rare display of shame, officers lowered their heads and left the scene. Such incidents expose the deeper dynamics at play—where security forces are seemingly being used to provoke unrest rather than maintain order.

Farm Raids and the Changing Stance of Western Powers

The raid on the farm of Kenya’s first president's widow, Mama Ngina Kenyatta, has amplified tensions. This act—where expensive livestock were stolen and property vandalized—has alarmed foreign nationals with similar investments in Kenya. Western embassies, informed by their citizens, have reacted swiftly, possibly influencing their governments’ changing stance on Kenya's political crisis.

These foreign powers, often accused of meddling in Kenya’s elections, are now prioritizing the protection of their nationals. This has led to increased scrutiny of the UDA government's actions, especially following a damning video by journalist John-Allan Namu, capturing police misconduct during protests. The footage has gone viral globally, painting a grim picture of Kenya’s human rights situation and sparking international concern.

UDA's Internal Crisis: A Kingdom Divided

Meanwhile, the UDA government faces internal challenges, with divisions resurfacing. The rivalry between Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Interior CS Kithure Kindiki, reminiscent of the 2022 running mate saga, has reemerged. Silence from key leaders, coupled with accusations of unfair resource distribution within the party, hints at deep cracks.

This internal rebellion may be rooted in the government’s very foundation. As I’ve said before, rebellion begets rebellion. A leadership that rose to power by defying its predecessor is now grappling with insubordination within its ranks.

Lessons for Kenya’s Future

As we navigate these turbulent times, one thing is clear: ignoring spiritual and historical lessons comes at a cost. A government built on shaky foundations cannot stand. Kenyans must reflect deeply on the type of leaders they elect and the systemic changes needed to steer the country away from this downhill trajectory.

Closing Thoughts and Tragic Footage

Finally, I present the promised footage of the Pwani University bus tragedy. It shows the vehicle's desperate attempts to avoid a collision before the ultimate loss of control. May this serve as a sobering reminder of the importance of vigilance and caution on our roads.

Once again, my deepest sympathies to all affected by this tragedy. Let us pray for the quick recovery of survivors and for wisdom as a nation to navigate the challenges before us.
