Lessons for 2012 (or is it 2010)?

If it was not already clearly evident to you dear reader, it should by now be as bright as the light -this great nation of ours sadly does not have any leaders willing to place the interests of our people first before their own selfish gain and personal advancement

Nowhere has this been more clearly reflected than in the current attitudes and bad manners on display by especially those in the PNU party (although ODM are not innocent either) whose sluggish reactions to the emergency of the current crisis are slow-moving responses that best exemplify all known reasons and unearth even more unknown reasons as to why they and their ilk are not fit in any capacity to lead any government this country had, has or will ever have in any century particularly the 21st-please don't remind me, i already know we are stuck with them for another eternity

Way before this blog had peaked 1,000,000 readers and it was simply serving as a healthy forum for wholesome debate, witty repartire and in-depth political analysis not available then through the current staple of main stream media, the header at the top of this page read "only brand new ideas and brand new leadership can save kenya"-of course i'm aware that the banner is still the same at our sister blog http://kumekucha1.blogspot.com/

So naturally as always i am keeping in theme with editorial policy Kumekucha and on the look out in particular for what lessons we can learn from the present to apply to the next generation of fresh-faced, new ideas totting political "rookies" complete with their radically different ideologies and approaches on how to change this country for the better. Not only will they have severed all ties and links with the political dinosaurs of the past but also their names may actually be new to our political landscape.

Well, its still integrity and not the economy, stupid. The light ease with which the present impasse has been treated, as if 1000 dead kenyans and 500, 000 IDPs have all the time in the world to wait for airplanes to land at Wilson Airport from Kilaguni lodge, shows that without a heart for the suffering havenots, nobody has a right to qualify to occupy any seat whether parliamentary, civic or legislative in both government and opposition

What of crisis management? Its also true that without prior requisite experience of reacting speedily to humanitarian crisis and national disasters in times gone by(and boy haven't we had plenty to practise from land clashes '92, '97 to el-ninio '98, bomb-blast 2003 and arturs 2005) how can we expect our mandated institutions and instruments of social governance representation (starting at the top with the presidency all the way to law and order e.g. police) to now display the much needed efficiency and effectiveness in leadership, planning and organisation in times of trouble that they could not hitherto show in times of "peace"-relative peace-i repeat 1,000 needlessly dead kenyans 500,000 IDPs do not have time for airplanes to land from Kilaguni lodge before their needs are given urgent attention-they require action and they needed it yesterday and it should not be mickey mouse answers and paper-tiger solutions(i salute you Dr. Mutua)

Who is behaving more like a leader?Watching Koffi Annan traverse the country in its length and breadth has been a great lesson to me in asking myself the question who is behaving more like a real leader? even without the official job title and constitutional job description to match, let alone not being from the same country as he is actually trying to help-of course i understand there is a covert undercover snipper on the lose biding his time before picking off our dishonourables one-by-one therefore, therefore understandably their desire to lie low at this moment and issue statements from the relative safety of their fotresses mainly in the capital is clear

What of diplomacy? after this shambolic handling in treatment of ArchBishop Tutu, AU chairman John Kufuor, emminent ex-african presidents Kaunda, Chisano,Mkapa and Masire, and even US envoy Jendayi Frazier, you know that this current dispensation of parliament has lost the right to be allowed to ever mediate and broker peace in conflicts throughout the region and continet at large owing from their shameful and disrespectful attitudes display in dumbing down efforts of outside helping hands of concern and equating it to long-distance tea and coffee drinking excursions

What of international image?Condolezza Rice's visit on Monday will help turn up the heat and the spot-light on hidden messages hitherto undicepherable by the pumbavu mwananchi such as the fact that the international community, while being repeatedly slapped in the face with parched calls of "our soverignity" nevertheless represent a global willingness to if need be show a strong arm of force in the face of a possible failure of the Annan talks, just serving as a friendly reminder that some countries are more sovreign than others no matter how much the other says so

Future leaders, heed to what you are seeing-the type of clownish antics currently on display represent nothing at all of what is the hopes, wishes and desires of the majority of the kenyan population-whether they're just too afraid to say anything because of fear of the unknown i don't know-but it will take a brave fool to dare confront architects of past decay, charismatic bullies and handsome cowards and carry the nation on their shoulders to a future where both rich and poor homes will once again be filled with laughter and injustice has taken a bow to reason and sense

The peace process is a battle between those who want to perpetuate decades of dictatorship v. those who want genuine democracy to flourish in Kenya.

  4. After the chaos that wrecked Kenya, I hold it strongly that we now have a chance to build a better country for ourselves.Yes!It doesn’t matter whether or not we need Mediators from all over the world, who knows…maybe they know what we don’t. But one thing for sure is that,Kenya needs to rise up and restore its dignity globally.

Truth of the matter is, this country was very divided ethnically from before…only that we all pretended not to notice it. No one dared utter the tribe of another in public, local journalists pretended not to appreciate that the country is made up of many different people with different ways of life and beliefs. ..“A MEMBER OF A CERTAIN COMMUNITY…”

Its a fact we all have to embrace with pride, for it is our different cultures and backgrounds that should make us a beautiful people.

True, some qualities are evidently key identities for some communities..like,running,theft,loyalty,banditry,sex,witchcraft,laziness etc….i’m sure you can tag a certain tribe to each attribute,But hey, don’t we all remain Kenyans?

By the way, Kenya really is IMPORTANT!Which other country in Africa had the whole world talking about it..and actually doing something about it?All the world leaders were drawn to our bedroom issues…And the sooner Porojo Na Ugaidi realise they are time barred on dictatorship, the safer they stay out of total rejection .

  5. You are wrong in saying all the new MPs have failed.

If you watch closely, only people from previous regimes or the FORD era are fighting each other with a few new fellows like Mungatana and Kianjui.

It is also important to note that most poor people on the ground
( outside of pro Kibaki areas) do feel that there is need for change. If the current leaders don't bring it,wait for more fireworks in 2012.....

NOTE: Tuju has now been sidelined.Going back to history he should count himself lucky. His predicament kind of reminds me of how the same Dr Mungai and Muhoho were behind the scenes trying to undermine Rail's dad through Tom Mboya in the 60s,they are the same people who were encouraging Tuju to fight Raila to the bitter end.

    In both cases they failed.

  6. THIS IS WHY- KAZI IENDELEE!! WILL NOT BE ALLOWED BY KENYANS!!

Coalition Government is a must to put a stop to all hidden agenda's of the last 5 years of Kibaki's Rule!!Moi must also be prepared to hand back all the Billions he stole to Kenyans- NO IMMUNITY!!NO PROTECTION FOR LOOTER OF KENYA HERITAGE!!!ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!!!!

Court case shows that on Tuesday 12th February 2008, Justice Nyamu and/or Justice Wendoh will hear the parties in a case brought by Midland Finance and Securities and Globetel Inc against the Government of Kenya on two Anglo Leasing type supplier and the finance contracts for an Administration Police telecommunications network. Their case is that they are entitled to payment of the full contractual amount (up to Ksh 4.4 Billion), even as the contracts have been condemned by reports of the Controller and Auditor General, the Parliamentary Accounts Committee and the Kenya Anti Corruption Commission.

Kenyans should hold a watching brief on this case to ensure that justice is not only done but manifestly seen to be done.

It would be unacceptable if this case were lost or settled to the disadvantage of the public interest. It would be a tragedy if section 25A of the Anti Corruption and Economic Crimes Act were invoked. It will be recalled that section 25A reintroduced the rejected idea of amnesty for corruption and economic crimes. Worse it allows the Kenya Anti Corruption Commission (KACC) in consultation with the Minister for Justice and Constitutional Affairs and the Attorney General to give “undertakings” including to the subject of corruption investigations “not to institute or continue with investigations against any person suspected of an offence under this Act.”

As Tanzanians demonstrate against grand corruption in their country, surely Kenyans can likewise show they will not condone it in ours?

Let justice be done, and be seen to be done.

  7. At this point only PNU STANDS THE RISK OF LOSING COMPLETE FACE.

The international community esp. Germany and the U.K. are pushing aggressively for a grand coalition.

ODM has already agreed to that proposal.

Will PNU swallow its pride? THE BALL IS FIRMLY IN THEIR COURT.

THE Government signed an Anglo Leasing contract for the supply of Sh500 million security telecommunication system in 2003, court documents show. In a petition and affidavits filed in the Central Registry of the High Court by Midland Finance Securities Limited of Switzerland and Globetel Incorporation of Cambridge, UK, the documents contradict the dates given by Finance minister, Mr Amos Kimunya. Earlier yesterday, Kimunya had claimed, the contracts were signed during the Kanu regime.

A director of the two companies, Mr David Dunkley, says the Government entered into the contract for the installation and commissioning of a Nationwide Digital Multi-channel Security system on May 29, 2003. Globetel Inc was to supply the communication system to the Administration Police. On the same day, the Government entered into a credit-financing contract with Midland for the first phase of the security contract. The credit was to be repaid within 72 months from the date the agreement became effective. “The credit contract and the security contract were subject to the laws of England,” he says. The contract, Dunkley says, was to last two years from the date of execution. “Indeed a legal opinion was accordingly issued by the Attorney General, Mr Amos Wako, on June 17, 2003,” he claims. The UK-based company immediately embarked shipment of the equipment in the interest of the timely completion of the contract, Dunkley says in his affidavit.

  10. KENYANS MUST KNOW THE TRUTH ABOUT LAND THEN THEY WILL GO AFTER THE LARGEST LAND OWNERS THAN POOR KENYANS WHO ARE CAUGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF A SITUATION WHICH ISN'T THEIRS TO BE BLAMED!!
KIKUYU RICH LAND OWNERS SHOULD SHARE THEIR LAND WITH ALL KIKUYU'S IN THE REFUGEE CAMPS!!! IF THEY REALLY CARE!!

The largest landowners in Kenya today are the families of the only three presidents the country has had since independence - the Kenyattas, the family of his successor, Daniel arap Moi, and the present president, Mwai Kibaki, who served in the Kenyatta and Moi administrations. A little further down the scale are a residual group of white settlers, senior politicians and businessmen with political connections.

The extended Kenyatta family alone owns an estimated 500,000 acres (2,000 sq km). That represents a large chunk of the 28m acres (113,000 sq km) of arable land in Kenya. The remaining 80% of the country is mostly semi-arid and arid land. The Kenya Land Alliance says more than half the arable land in the country is in the hands of only 20% of the population. Two-thirds of the people own, on average, less than an acre per person. There are 13% who own no land at all.

Three years ago the government launched the Ndungu commission to investigate the illegal distribution of publicly owned land. The commission found that Kenyatta and Moi both grossly abused their powers to grab public land and former white-owned farms, and parcelled it out “as political reward or patronage”.

“As a result a large number of the genuinely landless … remain locked in a cycle of poverty,” the commission said in its report. The commission members included Lumumba, who says, “The land belonged to the government or was in trust for the people but the trustees, particularly the presidents, behaved as if they were estate owners. They handed out individual titles to parts of national parks and gave trust land as political favours.”

  12. HOW CAN ONE FAMILY OWN LAND EQUIVALENT TO A WHOLE PROVINCE????

WAKE UP KENYANS DEMAND FOR WHAT IS RIGHTFULLY YOURS!! LAND ISSUES MUST BE RESOLVED AND LAND SHARED AMONG KENYANS!!

The extended Kenyatta family alone owns an estimated 500,000 acres — approximately

the size of Nyanza Province — according to estimates by independent surveyors and

Ministry of Lands officials who spoke on condition of anonymity.

The Kibaki and Moi families also own large tracts of land though most of the Moi family

land is held in the names of his sons and daughters and other close family members.

Most of the holders of the huge parcels of land are concentrated within the 17.2 per cent

part of the country that is arable. The remaining 80 per cent is mostly arid and semi arid

    land.

In fact, according to the Kenya Land Alliance, more than a half of the arable land in the

country is in the hands of only 20 per cent of the 30 million Kenyans. That has left up to

13 per cent of the population absolutely landless while another 67 per cent on average

own less than an acre per person.

  14. The expectation to deliver is intense,...thus stakes are high from his end.

Kibaki is also under pressure but mainly from his own GEMA folk. Kikuyu in diaspora have directly accused Kibaki of destroying their livelihoods, triggering hate against them and literally putting them in harms way.

Kikuyu business players have accused Kibaki of exposing them to targetted consumer boycotts and shrinkage of their customer base.

Kikuyu investors in other provinces outside Central, Eastern and Nairobi have infact sent their bills of losses to Kibaki, while Kikuyu peasant farmers in the diaspora have charged him to rebuild their homes and businesses - others making radical demands like having them resettled ELSEWHERE like in Kibaki's vast Nyeri holdings.

My sources told me that Kikuyu in Kiambu and Muranga have accused Kibaki of incompetence of the highest order, .....she says that, comparing Kibaki to Kenyatta draws huge contrasts,.....Kenyatta she says, largely helped the kikuyu (for instance settling them in Rift Valley through allying with moderate Kalenjin like Moi) without inviting direct suffering and isolation to them, the same things that Kibaki has brought unto them.

Kibaki's legacy and ego has thus been wounded.

Thus, while it is true Kibaki is a besieged and worried man today,....his main worries are not much about varied interest groups but mainly about how to undo the damage done to his Kikuyu folk - using the only instrument he hangs onto,....STATE POWER.

KIBAKI NEEDS TO CONTROL STATE POWER FOR HIM TO BE ABLE TO.........RESETTLE KIKUYU BACKIN RIFT VALLEY, REBUILD THEIR HOMES, PROVIDE SECURITY, AND COMPENSATE THEIR LOSSES.

THAT'S A BIG AGENDA, CONSIDERING THAT TAXPAYER MONEY TO BE USED NEEDS APPROVAL FROM PARLIAMENT, WHOSE REPRESENTATIVES ALSO HAVE MANY OF THER CONSTITUENTS EQUALY AFFECTED, BUT MISSING FROM KIBAKI'S RADAR.

FOR INSTANCE, ANY KEEN OBSERVER MUST HAVE NOTICED KIBAKI'S SILENCE WITH REGARD TO VICTIMS OF REVENGE ATTACKS (some aided by PNU operatives, according to documents forwarded from the KNHRC, Maina Kiai, & Muthoni Wanyeki ) IN NAKURU AND NAIVASHA.

It is thus not surprising to see KIBAKI wade off, and dismiss any talk about SHARING POWER. POWER that he intends to use to restore his legacy amongst his own wounded folks.

Sharing that power with ODM which is for instance keen to address historic land injustices becomes only problematic to Kibaki who seems to believe in the dictum of - take from Peter, give to Paul.

    Therefore, as you see, top Kibaki and PNU fears are;

Fear of Kibaki sharing executive powers with Raila.
Fear of exposition of the poorly executed rigging.
Fear of another election amidst fears of GEMA isolation (backlash on botched rigging & post electoral violence).
Fear of constitutional reforms effecting devolution.
Fear of PERMANENTLY losing support from GEMA in the diaspora who have borne heavy losses.
Fear of tectonic shifts in future voting patterns, based on prospects for security. (Voting for security -to prevent losing life and property rather than voting based on tribe )

After the realization that governments alone cant provide 100% security, there is a real possibility that say the Kisii or Kikuyu in Rift Valley may choose in future not to vote in the same pattern with their colleagues living in native areas purely for security reasons. They may opt to vote in a manner reflecting the dominant political views of the localities they occupy to avoid stirring bloodshed targetting them.....or just stay away from the ballot altogether.

Specifically, on the fear that Raila will share executive powers with Kibaki. Naturally, PNU suspects that Raila would exert more influence and wield more power than the reticent and semi-conscious Kibaki.

That would mean REFORMING a lot and SHAKING the terrain of governance before new elections. That may mean removal of any pre-planned stumbling blocks to a fresh presidential election.

That may mean an assault on long standing corruption networks, tribal networks, and exclusive club networks that survive on milking Kenya's coffers under Kibaki's watch.

That would mean institution of the Truth Justice & Reconciliation commission that would expose deadly and blood-thirsty politicians masquerading as leaders. That may mean implementation of the Kroll report and repatriation of hundreds of billions back into the country.

  15. NOW THE TRUTH IS OUT - ON WHAT MUNGIKI DID TO THE IDP'S IN CAMPS IN NAKURU AND NAIVASHA!! with the help of MAJOR ALI'S PNU SPONSORED POLICE FORCE!!- I knew the truth would come out= so lets here kiabiki and karua defend themselves now!!

    Feb 16th 2008

Chaos have erupted in Kakamega following an emotional return of the people displaced from Naivasha and Nakuru areas. A lorry full of the IDPs has raised emotions in an otherwise calm Saturday afternoon. Running battles have ensued in the town with marauding youths trying to invade the Kakamega Police Station where majority of the people displaced from the larger Western Province are residing.

The lorry did several rounds within Kakamega town with wailing residents escorting it. Sources indicate that the lorry which came through the Eldoret Chavakali-Kakamega route entered the town at exactly 12pm.Everywhere it went,it was recieved with lots of emotions and wails.Majority of the IDPs in the lorry showed clear panga cuts, a sign of the atrocities vented on them by the Mungiki while in Nakuru and Naivasha.

Smoke can be seen all over town, youth are burning old tyres and targeting percieved enemies who were slowly returning to their early ways.Tension is high in the town.In Amalemba and Lurambi shopping centers, police have barricaded the roads, barring people from entering the main business district.

  20. i see more than a few comments seeded here & across the web which, i feel, place way too much hope upon the role of outsiders in settling this conflict.

now, before i say anything further, i want to make it clear that i am not assigning blame to kenyans in general for their predicament nor speaking w/ the intention of dishonoring any sacrifices, struggles, or efforts that kenyans have made in the past & which are being made right now. and i am writing this from thousands of miles away from the center, so please keep that in mind & know that i do not mean any personal harm in raising these questions & posing these issues. way too many lives have been lost or changed forever - i fully understand that.

upstream, someone wrote the U.S. is also making it clear that a grand coalition is the way forward.

    is this a surprise?

annan, from even before the very first sit-down, has been pushing the same u.s. line that ranneberger and frazer were making right from the start -- no recounts, no re-run, kibaki is prez b/c the ECK said so, and the political solution is some form of power-sharing where PNU and ODM are placed on essentially equal-footing in the negotiations.

this u.s. line outpowered that of the EU's which, if you will recall, was advocating for a re-run, decrying the results & refusing to recognize the legitimacy of kibaki's "re-election". however, and assuming that they were serious to begin w/, it did not take long for the EU collectively to go all supine in deference to the u.s. call on kenyan's collective future.

annan is supposedly there on behalf of the AU yet he has his old longtime UN spokesperson along w/ him & it's the UN providing security checks on his lodging quarters, etc. nobody has investigated who is paying for all this, have they? i think the fact that the great white father in d.c. is sending his secretary condi rice to nairobi on such a critical day may be a good indication. where are your investigative journalists? the standard and the daily nation never picked up the ball on this story.

this is not to deny that annan has done a great service or to lay claim that he is only operating as an agent of a foreign power. it is certainly more complex than that, but it doesn't take an expert to observe what has been going on there & understand that PNU most definitely did not win the presidency -- as even the international observers have stated (see joel barkan's testimony at the recent u.s. senate subcommittee hearing, for one) -- yet ODM has been the party forced to make the most concessions in the negotiating process.

tell me, is kenya in such a state of long-term dependency that it has so little control over handling its own affairs? even ODM immediately turned to members of the international community for help.

i think that a lot of kenya's problems are its reliance on the u.s. and u.k. -- who have their own interests to look out for, which certainly trump those of the majority of kenyans -- for way too much. again, not blaming anyone here - i too have wept for the dead & hoped for some meaningful leadership to arise from these tragic times.

it's obvious that kibaki's alignment w/ the u.s. in the so-called global war on terror plays a large role in the current state of affairs.

there was a press briefing february 7th at the u.s. "think tank" CSIS, discussing bush's current victory lap across africa, in which one of the moderators stated that, WRT headquartering the u.s. empire's latest unified combatant command AFRICOM, "DOD actually until fairly recently was pushing for Kenya."

isn't it true that kenya has a difficult reputation amongst many of its sub-saharan sister nations as being a traitor by allowing u.s. military basing in its territories and that this accounts for some of the reason why so few have risen to kenya's defense in the past month-and-a-half?

these military relationships undermine local sovereignty which then has larger repercussions throughout the region.

    military bases are colonies.

it is imperative that kenyans maintain vigilance in ensuring that any new constitutional agreements do not contain clauses or backdoors that serve to expand the interests of international actors. and to watch that the u.s. does not get an article 98 or SOFA agreement out of of the future govt of kenya during this period of ongoing concessions.

if the u.s. did indeed promise kibaki their support at election time in response to his participation in the events in somalia and the increased military activity on the coast, there is no reason to believe that they won't use every opportunity to continue to further their own agenda.

the u.s. openly states that it considers kenya "a frontline state in the fight against terrorism." kenyans have been paying the price for that "partnership", many in blood.

    where are your true leaders?

So in Conclusion !! Kibaki made the deal not Kenyans- but the USA has seen it's mistake in supporting corrupt- crooks like kibaki, Martha Karua and their cronies at the expense of Kenyans?

The way you have written your argument- looks odd it is like you are trying to pit Kenyans against the US- in a backhanded way? my advice to you is to go ask Kibaki what he signed and what favors he asked for himself!! for now we are dealing with the USA as the people of Kenya and we asked them to come help us sort out messy issues with the other foreign powers- You seem well informed?? why didn't face up this issues with the relevant parties before 2007 elections?

A new constitution will be enacted in Kenya -new policies -ECK disbanded e.t.c So what ever you are trying to imply !! ati USA will do something back door is like you trying to keep Kibaki in office through your propaganda campaign against the USA- so that Kenyans get scared of USA involvement in the mediation (Coalition government) sorry we can see through you!!

KENYANS WANT THE HELP OF THE USA! CANADA, BRITAIN-EU AND ALL OTHER COUNTRIES THAT ARE FRIENDS OF KENYANS-
WE WANT THE SPOTLIGHT ON ALL THE CROOKS THAT HAVE WRONGED ORDINARY KENYANS AND DENIED THEM DEMOCRACY WELL DESERVED!! BY RIGGING ELECTIONS- NO HIDING BEHIND THEIR WEALTH AND BUYING SILENCE -you dare say we

  22. Anons 7:38/8:02 - Perhaps I have been ambiguous which led to you both to believe I am for pnu; I am for odm. But I am not in Kenya so I concede that I may not have read the mood accurately and that alarmist comments are not what Kenya needs at this time.

I would sincerely ask: did people on the ground anticipate the scale of the violence and dislocation? If so, you may be right. If not, it is reasonable to postulate that passions that were so quickly aroused are not going to dissipate quickly.

In light of your feedback, I will refrain from further posting any pessimistic opinions. This is a crucial week and I agree we need to be careful in our comments.

the executive run everything not just in kenya but almost all of africa. once they get a hold of the resources, there was previously only two options
    a) massive civil unrest and wars resulting in thousands of dead and hundred of thousands displaced, maimed, orphaned etc and extended periods of anarchy. or b) accept and hope for next time

now, thankfully, we have ad additional option c) interest/intervention of the international community

in seeking rapid resolution with minimum loss of life, the ODM leadership is pursuing options that protect the lives of citizens while upholding justice and peace. the solutions as pointed above by someone else, we already know and kenyans are ready to work these out, the bottleneck is the executive and that can only be effectively put in line by sustained international pressure otherwise internal activities will result in loss of lives and freedoms under the guise of national security.

Is this PNU member posting search thread here for real?? is this person suggesting that we as Kenyans are placing too much hope on outsiders to settle our conflict??

Kenyans?? doesn't this remind you or read exactly like MARTHA KARUA & KILONZO MUSYOKA National anthem that they were singing to the whole world since 27th December 2007?? that this is a domestic(Kenya) conflict and should be resolved by KenyanS!! meanwhile a shot to kill order was given to the police-who went on a killing rampage of innocent Kenyans- and they kept repeating the same statement like "B Real" has posted here?? Kazi iendelee!!right!!

Even in African culture when neighbors or friends have a quarrel they ask someone or third parties who are not close to the to individuals to try and resolve the issues-
I second the previous post - Kenyans invited the international communities to come to there help in time of need and they did-

the Election rigging thieves did not want anyone from the international community to be present in Kenya while they destroyed kenyans- so that police would have continued on their killings spree and more assassinations would have taken place-

then the thieves would have called a state of emergency!! all Kenyans are aware that was PNU next plan of action! thank God we got the international community involved in time...

ALL Kenyans from other part of Kenya would never ever do that BURN ANOTHER countries flag?? when we are not at war with them? they are feeding our displaced kenyans in refugee camps (some who are kikuyu's) donating money for medicine for our children in this camps and all other essentials!! then we thank them by burning their national Flag!!
This must have been instigated by MARTHA KARUA AND KABONDO WA KABONDO WITH A NOD FROM KIBAKI!!

Shame shame to the Nyeri people- we KENYANS ARE VERY GLAD YOU DON'T REPRESENT THE THE REST OF KENYA- AND IN FACT THEY ACTUALLY MENTIONED THEY REPRESENT CENTRAL PROVINCE!!!ONLY!

  26. thank you anon @ 11:49 - i do realize the importance of int'l pressure on kibaki & did not, contrary to the paranoiac reactions of the other two commentators, mean to imply that it was all negative or that is not a place for it. apologies if my questions come across as too insensitive to the real dynamics taking place w/i kenya.

the editorial today in the standard that welcomes rice's role in the negotiations really made me question just how much the people of kenya see things from the larger context. it misses the irony of the u.s. now coming in and saying we like annan's idea of power-sharing when it was theirs all along.

my point is that the u.s. is not an impartial actor in this crisis - but you all know that, right?

  27. America is a very powerful country. To publicaly burn the american flag is very very unwise. The real people with the beef against America would not be seen doing the same. they want others to take the firing line for their battles. The truth is that the Central Kenya Elite want to make this a Kikuyu vs rest war. But the average Kikuyu from my point of view wants nothing of it. I see that as this goes on the only way it will opan out is with the Kikuyu masses turning against the elite and together with rest of the country and international community holding them to account. The slower PNU is to realise that they are up against a wall the more they paint themselves into a very tight corner. That is not to say that the other side is innocent (or consists of angels as they have claimed) those milityia are being organised and finanaced. A life is a life whether Kikuyu, Luo or otherwise. Those behind the killings MUST be broiught to book and face the full force of the law. That means in no uncertain terms that they must at all levels be theypolticians, businessmen or common wananchi, be tried and if found guilty sented to prison terms as per the law. Thats the only balanced way to move forward. Nobody should be allowed to think on either side that they, at the political level can do a deal that does not take into account the full suffering of wananchi. That deal (annan) cannot give immunity to anyone fould guilty of atrocities.

my point is that the u.s. is not an impartial actor in this crisis - but you all know that, right?

We indeed know the role of the U.S in all that is happening - you see with most KenyanS abroad and on ground in Kenya have vast knowledge on International affairs and the global world i.e super powers/G8 and involvement or agenda's in the global arena- this comes with the beauty of most Kenyans being hooked up on the internet -or being able to use internet cafe's in search of relevant information- So you see one does not need to be abroad to have knowledge of Globalization and international relations among nations.
Kenyans are intelligent and most educated enough. If Kenyans had a choice- they would have liked the government WITH members of parliament they democratically elected in office- that is ODM.

Now Kenyans realized when too many innocent kenyans were being killed mercilessly and the hardliners who rigged the elections were not ready to step down from the power they grabbed illegally- They welcomed in the international communities- first to stop the bloodshed - followed by finding a way to gain back their democracy.

Kenyans were smart enough to sense that Kibaki and his hardliners were not ready to step down- and if the only way to control this crooks and remove the power that they were using to "shot to kill orders given to the police" by the illegal government- then Kenyans are ready to have the power sharing formula(who cares who had the idea first!!USA OR!EU)kENYA'S PREFER LOOKING AT THIS MEDIATION AS A FRIEND TO KENYANS FOUND A SOLUTION THAT CAN HELP KENYA TO START AFRESH- as long as an election are set in two years and the New-constitution put in place.
    and no more bloodshed-
    Kenyans are ok with that

But we can see Nyeri people burning American flags claiming they are speaking for the central province??
what do they think they will achieve? if I may ask??

I think you are the an individual who is lounging abroad and has no idea regarding what is happening in Kenya on the ground - your interests seem to be invested more in PNU like Njoki Ndungu who went in front of the committee and she could not just help her self supporting Kibaki-SHE WAS SO VAGUE ON ANY DIRECT QUESTIONS RELATING TO kIBAKI'S GOVERNMENT 5 YEARS IN POWER!!SHE NEVER EVEN MENTIONED CORRUPTION! while Maina Kiai laid it out as is- REGARDING what is happening on ground in Kenya!! If your dream is that PNU will resist this coalition then keep on dreaming!! Kenyans will remove them by force with the help of friendly international communities who will now understand that Kibaki and his cronies do not have the interests of Kenyans at heart!! So you want Kenyans to wait- so that PNU can have a field day for more assignations to reduce ODM majority in parliament as they plan! right!! then hit Kenyans with marshal law/state of emergency?? right!! in your dreams!! it won't happen tell that to your PNU buddies who send you here to post propaganda!!

When Tom Mboya was killed, America kept quiet - when Robert Ouko first cried foul as did Great Britain in sending in the Scotland Yard Team - but then the First Gulf War erupted and the US needed Mombasa as a Base for their 7th Fleet and Great Britain was put under pressure by certain Financial Experts - so business as usual and Scotland Yard was called back - when Moi came under pressure by the Multi-Party-Movement, the Somali Crisis erupted and again the US and others intervened and Moi continued ruling - although it was a known fact that the Elections of 10092 and 1998 were rigged ....

So why this outcry now about the rigged 2007 Elections - everything is 'game as usual'.....

Kenya and Africa in general is not counting in the view of many western countries (and to be honest also not in the view of Russia and China - they only see it as a strategy point for doing business or because of its natural resources)....

And just in case that some of you think that Obama will change all this ...... remember: his mother left his (Kenyan) father when he was only a few months old because she found a richer (Muslim-Indonesian) man .... Obama grew up in Indonesia and only went back to study in America ..... he never had any relationship with his natural father nor was he interested to find out about his Kenyan family roots ----- this only became important when he entered the race for becoming US President .... ask his relatives in Kenya about this .....

It's all a dirty game .... politics is like that: pretending, cheating and selling yourself to the highest bidder (and don't think I mean with this the people voting for the candidate - I mean the lobbiests and financial 'crooks' - only the one who can play the game best will win .... and rule the most powerful Nation in the world ..

Kenya is a figure on their chess game ....... nothing else ......

Don't close your eyes to this fact....

And it's you - the People of Kenya - who have to continue to fight and don't ever rely on help from outside. Continue keeping your socalled politicians accountable ..... and if they still did not learn their lesson, force them to open their eyes and make sure that they realize that Kenya and the Africans in general have grown-up and cannot be cheated anymore.

Scores feared dead as police, cattle rustlers clash

    Published on February 17, 2008, 12:00 am

    By Osinde Obare

Ten people are feared dead following a gun battle between police and suspected raiders who attacked Kabolet, on the Trans Nzoia/West Pokot border.

Trans Nzoia East District Commissioner, Mr Seif Matata, and area Officer Commanding Police Division, Mr Bernard Muli, confirmed the attack but accounted for only three deaths.

The police also recovered 22 head of cattle.

A senior police officer told The Sunday Standard that police had gunned down eight raiders.

"We fought a tough battle and shot eight dead, while others escaped into the forest with injuries," said the officer who declined to be named.

The raiders had earlier shot dead two elderly men.

The officer said during the shootout, scores of other raiders escaped with gun injuries into the dense Kabolet Forest.

Saturday attack on Kabolet and Munyaka was the fifth in five days running.

And residents, led by a local politician Mr Francis Gichuki, staged a peaceful protest against the attacks.

The residents accused the Government of failing to protect them from the marauding raiders.

"They have taken away all our animals, raped our women and abducted children, yet the Government is doing little," said Gichuki.

And tension is high in the village after the raiders last evening gave notice of another impending attack next week.

The Sunday Standard spotted seven armed officers patrolling the troubled village, amid protest from the residents that they could not resist the high number of raiders who struck.

At Karaos near Kesogon, police battled with raiders escaping with stolen cattle from Namanjalala village near Kitale town.

The fighting was still going on by Saturday evening.

Secret Meetings held to dupe and bribe!

Uhuru Kenyatta's double-speak about his ambition to become Kenya's President after Kibaki is no surprise. Uhuru Kenyatta is the chosen heir in an elaborate plan by Mt. Kenya politicians to ensure that the Presidency stays with the community beyond 2022. A group of Mt. Kenya politicians have planned how Uhuru will take over the Presidency in 2012 whether Kibaki wins another term or not in December 2007.

Before PNU was formed, Kibaki had held a series of secret meetings with top leaders from Central Province to chart the way forward for the future of the Kikuyu Community after 2007. The meetings started as early as April this year when the Kibaki men realized that he had no credible party that could see him get re-elected. Purely Mt. Kenya outfits Narc-Kenya and DP were at the time pressuring him to adopt their ticket amid dissent from non-Kikuyu ministers.

Notably, while the politicians were of the impression that Kibaki should join either of the two Mt. Kenya parties, Kibaki's golfing baddies now entrenched in government, parastatals and in Mt. Kenya owned TransCentury share-trading and acquisition company were busy working on a formula that would see Kibaki re-elected at the same time ensuring that the presidency remains with the Kikuyu beyond 2012.

Handwritten minutes of meetings show that the planners - the athuri group - are so secret that even members of the Ameru and Aembu are not included. The argument is that these communities will obviously support a Kikuyu come 2012 because they have no option. To this end, it was agreed that Kiraitu Murungi and David Mwiraria be returned to the cabinet to ensure "they are for ever grateful" and to win the loyalty of the Ameru. It came as no surprise that it was Lucy Kibaki who made hints of their return which was effected speedily. Minutes show the group nicknamed itself "athuri".

About the same time, the athuri secretive group comprising of Kibaki as chairman, Njenga Karume and John Michuki as alternate chairmen, Mary Wambui, Jimmy Kibaki, Judy Kibaki, Eddy Njoroge, George Muhoho, Stanley Murage, Nat Kangethe, Bishops Arthur Gitonga and George Gathii, and Cyrus Gituai (PS OP) were holding meetings with the retired president Moi's group of Nicholas Biwott, Ezekiel Bargetuny, Gideon Moi, Sila Yego and Uhuru to layout the post-Kibaki succession plan.

Ready to play ball as usual were Luhya leaders in the then GNU. A plot was hatched to have Ford-Kenya take the lead in the formation of PNU thereby hide the true intention of the Mt. Kenya boys. In one meeting it was agreed that Musikari Kombo was more pliable, weak and dumb enough to be used. That Kombo was weak on his Western Province turf after invasion by ODM was cited as reason enough for him to play errand boy without question. "Nyamu eno ahoyaga matigio. Reke tomuhe ihindi" (this animal worships leftovers. Let's give him a bone to chew), Kibaki is said of Kombo in reference to empty departments given to Kombo's cronies after he threw a tantrum following a post-referendum new cabinet in 2005.

Not surprisingly, in a recent tour of Western Province, Kibaki told Kombo and company including Moody Awori that he will include him in his cabinet. It was strange given that the president found it necessary to make this promise when all parties under PNU should automatically be in Cabinet after elections. Was this an attempt to stem some disquiet regarding the president's mean trick of short-changing partners? Was this reassurance to Kombo and meant to appease Luhya voters who have lost faith and trust that Kibaki, an introverted tribalist, can never honour a promise? Problem is, there is no party Kombo can use to negotiate for positions in the post-elections cabinet. This is because Ford-Kenya has been swallowed by PNU and is fielding no candidates!

Earlier, in the athuri meeting, it was also argued that Kombo's never-ending ambition to be "given" the vice presidency was a great enticement to have him play blind ball. His desperation for money was also used fully. No less a person than his nemesis Soita Shitanda of Malava has accused Kombo of being in PNU for the money. It is instructive that while all parties under PNU have their own candidates, only Ford-Kenya failed to field a single candidate of its own. The ECK register shows that all Former Ford-Kenya MPs in Bungoma, including Kombo are running on PNU. It means that Ford-Kenya is finally dead.

That's how the equally quick-to-please Noah Wekesa was recruited to lead a façade of forming PNU while the backroom Muthaiga boys worked on a parallel plan. It is notable that immediately Wekesa thought he had clinched it with PANU, the Mt. Kenya boys took it over renamed it PNU and got busy swallowing all the other parties other than Kanu. Wekesa's cries of betrayal were to no avail. His boss Kombo, as usual was more interested in the cash handouts that comes with "horse trading" than protecting his sidekick or the interests of Ford-Kenya.

Back to the issue of the Kibaki succession, Uhuru finally agreed to join the Kibaki team but was given enough concessions as the heir-in-waiting: First, Kanu would field independent candidates but who will be funded by PNU to ensure Kanu becomes strong since PNU would disintegrate by 2009 and a win or lose by Kibaki would have prepared Uhuru to inherit the Mt. Kenya vote. Second, the bad blood between Uhuru and Moi over his association with ODM would be cleansed by the appointment as ministers of Gideon Moi, Nick Salat, Paul Sang and Nicholas Biwott in a Kibaki government. As it were only Paul Sang got the appointment earlier than after the elections. These appointment promises remain intact for after 2008 and are the reason Moi and company are campaigning hard for Kibaki in Rift Valley. Third, through such association with Moi's boys and should Kibaki lose, Kanu would have re-established a foothold in Central Kenya and the Rift Valley, and with Moi's support in the Rift Valley, Uhuru will be president and Gideon Moi the vice in 2012.

When it came to other communities and other competitors, the athuri prevailed upon Kibaki to abandon the ambitions of Awori, Kombo, Kituyi, Saitoti, Martha Karua and Kirwa as inconsequential. This was after Kibaki was presented with secret research evidence from Mutahi Ngunyi, who has since moved to State House. Mutahi reported that other than Karua, the pretenders to the throne would all loose their seats in the 2007 elections. Chipped in Karume in reference to Karua "Mwari wa muthambia kioro afataire kuihura/kuithambia mbere...." (The daughter of a toilet cleaner should wipe herself first!) – a derogatory reference to Kirinyaga people whom mainstream Kikuyu refer to as toilet cleaners. The slur was acquired in colonial times when the Kirinyaga dominated the city council cleansing department).

As for Saitoti, it was felt that he was an outsider who carried too much baggage from the Goldenberg scum. He was seen to be "disloyal" in his earlier announcement that he would vie against Kibaki in this year's elections. The Kiambu Muranga axis of the athuri felt that Saitoti ambitions for 2012 did not augur well for Uhuru. Michuki reported he had met Moi who has no time for his former VP, and that consideration of Saitoti would antagonize Moi whom Saitoti blamed for the Goldenberg theft.

To placate Moi, the athuri minutes report to Kibaki refers to " Gacamia/Gathakaria ga gukenia Moi" (or a sweetener to appease Mzee Moi). It has now emerged that the sweet for Moi is a plot to ensure Saitioti looses the Kajiado North parliamentary seat. It is with this hindsight the Saitoti is under siege from DP's Lee Kinyanjui and blames "someone" in PNU. And Saitoti is very uncomfortable at the moment with the Kibaki Group even going as far as claiming that PNU wants him to loose the Kajiado North seat. These fears are well founded as the athuri feel that Saitoti is an outsider in Central Province and therefore not the best bet for the Presidency even after Kibaki.

Part of their minutes show the athuri discussed ways of dealing with the imminent fallout with other communities in 2012. The Luhya as a community are dismissed as peaceful and would be grateful for anything. Kombo despite promises was ruled out as a running mate. Moody's influence in Western Province was found lucking and Kombo, Kituyi and Wekesa were seen to have succumbed to the ODM wave in the Province. " Manegere Mathagu ma guku na nimakurota kuubuka", (Give them some chicken wings and they will dream of flying), Michuki is quoted dismissing any worries about Luhya support for Kibaki.

The meeting thus decided that " Gutuma atongoria abaluhya mecirie nimakugia ufata munene kuri thirikari Kibaki ashinda'( to give the Luhya leaders the impression that they will be a major part of Kibaki's government if he wins). The emphasis was that these leaders should be made to work for Kibaki since their worth as vote-getters had diminished. This seems to be the "decoy" assurance Kibaki was promising on his recent tour.

When PNU was taken over, it was decided that Kibaki give other parties like Ford-Kenya and Ford-People, the illusion that they are part of PNU. Only Kombo took this bait and Ford-K is the only party that is headed to oblivion in the PNU. Secretly, Kikuyu parties like Safina, Narc-Kenya and DP were to be allowed to "revolt" and field candidates in their own names in the nominations. Kombo is being made to believe that he is a co-owner of PNU and therefore a future VP. However, in a telling game of juggling the liver ala Michuki, the athuri have argued that after elections, Ford-Kenya would be dead. The plot was to ensure Kombo got money to stand on PNU and let Ford-Kenya die. It is interesting that the ECK lists Kombo and his Bungoma cohorts as all standing on PNU!

Hence, the Kibaki athuri hatched a plot to keep all the non-Kikuyu members of PNU hopeful. However, the confidential athuri minutes show that after the elections and incase Kibaki wins, he will form an alliance with Kalonzo Musyoka as VP because Kibaki will only have Kikuyu MPs. The athuri also argue that most other provinces are already lost to ODM and there will be no need to reward "aragoli" (Mt. Kenya name for the Luhya) after they reject Kibaki.

According to Mutahi Ngunyi's brief, to boost turnout, all Kibaki needs to do is ensure large turnouts in Central where the "unattached voter" will be helped to vote. This is reference to double registration occasioned by national IDS numbers being shared by several voters and those also of dead voters given to other people. It is quite alarming that most cases termed "double registration" by the ECK are actually ID numbers of other voters outside Mt. Kenya and the dead ones now given Kikuyu names and allocated voters cards. The rigging ploy is that while the original holder of the legitimate ID number will be denied voting because of double registration, the imposter in Central Kenya will have voted.

While analyzing the situation in Rift Valley, the athuri considered the consequences of naming Kipruto Kirwa as Kibaki's running mate, an idea they said originated from a meeting former President Daniel Arap Moi had held with Narc-Kenya chairman Raphael Tuju in Nakuru in October. Moi had argued that promising Kirwa a running mate position to Kibaki (without intending to make him VP) would clip the ODM wave in Rift Valley. This, it is explained, would make Kalenjins vote for Kibaki since former Eldoret North MP William Ruto who is a member of the powerful ODM Pentagon is not Raila Odinga's running mate.

But Moi's suggestion was rejected as the athuri argued that it would be very difficult to dump Kirwa after the elections were he to be named the running mate. Mutahi argued that Uhuru's support from the Kalenjin in 2012 would be jeopardized as the Kalenjin would rebel again. " Dukayihie mbogo ithitio. Nitutihitie andu aya maita meri matikugueterera gutihio ka gatatu", warned Ngunyi, who is married to a Kalenjin, in his presentation. Loosely translated, it means "Never underrate a wounded Buffalo. We have wounded these chaps twice – using them in 2002 against Moi and firing them after for Moi's mistakes. They will not wait for a third wound". The athuri finally decided that the VP slot should be left vacant and dangled to all communities especially the Luhya and the Kalenjin to vote for Kibaki.

Apparently, while Kibaki needs Moi's help, the athuri acknowledge that Moi is a danger given the Kroll Report, which revealed that the former President and his family looted public coffers more than Kshs.130 billion. They have decided to restrict Moi to campaigns against ODM in Rift Valley where they believe corruption by Moi is not an issue. Yet some members in the group are cautious with this arrangement arguing that it may backfire and hurt Kibaki on the platform of Corruption. It is with this in mind that an anxious Moi, whose moles had leaked the reservations by the athuri to him, met Kibaki at State House Nakuru for 45 minutes on November 29, 2007.

Sources reveal that Moi wanted assurance that Kibaki would not renegade on a secret deal never to prosecute Moi and his family for crimes committed during his era. To secure protection Moi secured a free ride to Parliament for his sons and his private sectraty, John Lokorio in three constituencies on a Kanu ticket. Moi who had just arrived back from Ethiopia contributed Kshs3 billion to Kibaki's campaign kitty.

However, a clever Moi said the money will be used by him in Kibaki Tena campaigns in Rift Valley against Raila. Moi is now funding all the pro-Kibaki candidates in the province. It is also believed that it is from this money that leaflets against Raila are being produced and distributed in Rift Valley.

The more dastardly of the cash use is the funding of ethnic clashes in Molo. Kikuyu and Kalenjin youth are being paid to kill and burn houses belonging to Kisii migrant workers in the area in an attempt to cut down ODM votes in the native Kisii-Nyanza. The pro-Kibaki media have deliberately chosen to focus on source interviews and name-tag captions showing the Kisii as the victims. Yet this is not new. It is the third phase after the failure when government ignited ethnic flare-ups on the Kisii-Kalenjin border at Sondu mid this year as the ODM wave hit fever pitch in the country. The second phase failed where widows and orphans would be paid to parade themselves as victims of ethnic clashes in Kisii. It looks like Moi has now gone for the real ones by igniting the Kuresoi killings.

  48. What level of idiocracy is that? That some among us can stoop so low to the level of burning the American flag.Do you know the impact that image will have?
I am a Kikuyu living in Kiambu(not that any of you care about the difference) and though I voted for PNU,I hadn't opened my eyes to the reality of how isolated we have become. Not just at home but also internationally. You see,us Kiuks like surrounding ourselves with people who see things your way and listen to media that rub our little egos.
I think reality hit some of us when the outcome of the last election saw to it that the majority of the civic and parliamentary seats went to those we never thought could never lead this country.
I sympathise with the Kikuyu bootlickers, the Meru and the Embu who,as the blogger noted only follow our tide.I don't know if anyone could tell them Kiuks don't really think of them much as they are only there to give us the numbers. That is nothing but the hard fact.

  49. So our leaders would like us to believe the fallacy that the developed world has no say in the current crisis. That is nothing but a big lie. It is nothing but naïve to think that the world will just stop and watch these goons as they destroy our country. Who if not the world is going to clean up after you? Are our leaders thinking about this or are they too blinded by their greed for power? The world is now a global village. What happens here affects others. It’s time you realized that.

  50. kENYANS DO YOU REMEMBER THIS REPORT IN THE NEWS BEFORE THE ELECTIONS??
SO TELL ME WHO PLANNED VIOLENCE BEFORE ELECTIONS????

    29th November 2007,
Police in Naivasha have arrested thirty two suspects linked to the dreaded Mungiki sect and recovered tens of crude weapons.

Also recovered were paraphernalia associated with the banned sect in the two roomed house where the suspects were.

The suspects were arrested in the sprawling Kabati estate on Tuesday night as they held a strategic meeting.

It was not clear what the weapons that included swords, whips, machetes and clubs were meant for with fears that they were meant to be used for political violence.

Also recovered were the sect register and minutes together with the monthly contributions accounts of each member.

Sniffing tobacco, soda ash and unknown substances were netted during the raid that saw some of the suspects escape.

Confirming the incident, Naivasha OCPD Willy Lugusa said that they were investigating the motive of the meeting adding that the suspects
would be arraigned in court soon.

"These weapons could be used for criminal activities and at the present moment we are not ruling out anything," he said.

He said that those arrested were all men aged between 18 and 35 years and could not explain what they were doing in the room.

  57. This should seek to answer why “SERIAL SLAPPIST LUCY”, KARUA, WANJUI AND THEIR ILK BURNING AMERICAN FLAGS bear such arrogance.
…..This is where it began. Some twisted professor of History distorted a very important part of this country’s political past. THE KIKUYU DID NOT FIGHT FOR THIS COUNTRY’S INDEPENDENCE, THEY FAUGFHT FOR LAND. HARD FACT.
They rebelled against colonial settlement in where they deemed their ancestral land. Ask any veteran and he will confirm that those illiterate natives called MAU MAU didn’t give a hoot about the boundaries demarcated by the British, nor did they care. They didn’t have the LUHYA, KAMBA, LUO, KALENJIN, MAASAI or even their poor neighbors, The MERU in mind. (Good to see some Merus coming around)They just wanted the white man off their land. Period
When the queen finally realized that maintaining Kenya as a colony was heavy on the British tax payer, she decided it was time to cede power to the clueless black man. Lancaster aside. When the White man left, the kikuyu largely benefited from the property and business left behind, which clearly, gave them a head start in development. The British had great agricultural know-how and had made great stride in turning many of kikuyu farms into money makers. The kikuyu had to benefit.
School taught many of us that the kikuyu played a big role in independence. What a fallacy. The president was JOMO KENYATTA after independence. Through his government, he had to validate and justify his grabbing of land. He exalted his people, greatly disregarding the fact that, Jaramogi sacrificed his own political benefits or his release.
In comes Moi….a token presidency….he paid back his dues to the kikuyu by settling more of them in rift valley. Through the JOMOKENYATTA FOUNDATION, kids in school were made to disregard other great post independence heros like Koitalel, Mekatilili, Nabongo Mumia, and many others. They were made to believe through brainwash, that if they ever saw a kikuyu, they should bow down to them, since they were responsible for this country’s uhuru.
Truth is, If the kikuyu were so tough against the white..Why did the white settle in their land? It is because other tribes like the NANDI, made it impossible for the white man to settle. Rift valley is very spacious, arable, fertile and scenic.
Children of former British cooks and drivers, like kina Martha Karua, now carry on as if Kenyans will forever be naive. They slap people with impunity, lord over every business sector, constitute militia such as the Mungiki, and are extremely corrupt. When few sound minded Kikuyu children speak the truth, they are immediately put on notice. Maina Kiai, Githongo and Wanyeki are but a few.
Kikuyu need to know that Kenya belongs to all of us within the borders. Their fathers did not fight for Kenya’s uhuru .but fought for their land just as much as the Nandi, the Mijikenda, the Luhya, the Luo, the Maasai did. The other tribes won their battles, but the kikuyu inherited farms left behind. It makes them no better than anyone and it makes no sense to see them try and impose themselves on others.
Karuas, Kabando Wa Kabandos, Thuos and those young arrogant politicians from central, are fast becoming time barred, and they better start preparing for equal co-existence with other tribes of Kenya….
For the record, I am Gitau, a Kikuyu.

  61. Kenya crisis: EU releases details of doctored votes

Details of doctored votes in the just-ended polls were released yesterday by European Union observers, who declared that Kenya's General election fell short of democratic standards and lacked transparency.

A report by the European Union observer mission, which sent out 152 officials to monitor voting in different parts of the country, said there was a "lack of transparency" in the tallying of results which gave President Kibaki victory, raising doubt about their accuracy.

It says "serious inconsistencies and anomalies" in results announced by the ECK led to differences between the presidential results for Kieni and Molo issued at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre and those reported by its EU chief observer was shown result forms for Lari and Kandara which had been altered while in Kerugoya there was difference of more than 10,000 in the number of presidential and parliamentary voters.

It says competition among the election candidates in the national elections was uneven, as some abused state resources while the state controlled Kenya Broadcasting Corporation was biased in its coverage of the campaigns.

The report, which was presented to the media by the observer mission head Alexander Lambsdorff, tells of the difficulties faced by its officials in obtaining results from Returning Officers at most polling station in Central Province and Coast.

Cases of Results being withheld and only being released to observers after confirmation by ECK officers in Nairobi occurred in Mathioya, Kaloleni, Mvita, Kisauni, Changamwe, Likoni and Central/North Imenti.

A number of party agents reported that they had been denied copies of result forms while forms in Kangema were signed only by an agent of the Party of National Unity.

Now the observation team is calling for an independent audit of the presidential votes.

Speaking at an international press conference held at Hotel Intercontinental, Mr Lambsdorff, said it was up to Kenyans to decide on the composition of the audit team and duration the investigations will take.

It is also up to Kenyans to decide what action they will take based on the outcome of the investigations. Our job is to let the facts speak for themselves without speculation or conjecture, he said.

Mr Lambsdorff said problems in the electoral process began after the close of the polls, EU observers being turned away from tallying centres, particularly in Central Province, without being given results and being denied access to the tallying room at the Electoral Commission of Kenya (ECK) headquarters.

Whilst the results of election were announced, the official figures for all the constituencies are still not available and adequate measures have not been taken at all levels to ensure the results can be correlated in the public domain, the report adds.

According to Mr Lambsdorff, in Molo the figure released at the counting hall at the constituency level was that President Kibaki had garnered 50,145 votes, but the national figure released by the ECK showed the head of state received 75,261.

The presidential votes tally released in Kieni constituency level showed Mr Kibaki had received 54,337 votes, while the national figures announced by ECK chairman, Mr Samwel Kivuitu showed he had garnered 72,054.

Mr Lambsdorff said in North Imenti, after the counting of parliamentary and civic votes were completed, returning officers postponed tallying to the following day saying they were too tired to continue.

In Thika, he said, counting of presidential votes was stopped at one oclock in the night without any explanation and in Nyer EU agents were told that they could only get the results of the presidential election after the returning officer returned from Nairobi.

Mr Lambsdorff said the uncharacteristically higher voter turnout in Central province and Nyanza also raised queries that needed further investigation.

Turnouts higher than 90 per cent were observed in a number of polling stations namely in Central and Eastern Province. In Maragua, ECK officials informed the EU observation team that there were some doubts regarding the high turnout, the EU interim report said.

Central is the home turf of President Kibaki, while Nyanza is the birth place of ODM's presidential candidate Raila Odinga.

The report says at the ECK headquarters, the EU team chief observer was shown forms on which the election results for constituencies 205 (Lari) and 096 (Kandara) had been changed.

It was unclear by whom, where and especially when these changes were made, the document adds.

The document says it was not possible to verify whether the signature of the party agents was included before or after the changes.

The team's deputy observer, Mr Graham Elson, expressed disappointment with the electoral process saying Kenya failed to maintain the standards it had set in the 2002 General Election and the referendum and was only comparable to Nigeria.

The EU team had about 150 observers comprising short term and long term election observers. On the polling day the team managed to observe a total of 752 polling stations on the election day.

It says candidates agents were present in nearly all polling stations visited, however, according to the report, there was a tendency of over-representation by PNU or ODM agents in the strongholds of the two parties.

The aggregation of results in the tally centres were delayed and also lacked transparency in many constituencies, the 15-page interim report adds.

The report cites a complaint by the ECK chairman Kivuitu that some returning officers were reported to have disappeared after the completion of the tallying process in their constituencies. A comprehensive report will be released in February.

I am saddened that we have all fallen for the allure of ODM’s "truths". The devil is hard at work and will do whatever necessary to turn the lord's people around! If you have read the details of **** Morris' Orange Revolution, this was an important step, conquer the media. Then, ODM borrowed one from Hitler's own handbook, "lie, lie and top up your lies with more lies and it will become true!" In Meru where they claim results were cooked, the public, along with ODM agents were at the announcements of the votes tallied.

First is an analysis of the differences between the presidential and
parliamentary vote in 2007, using the 2002 results as a benchmark. In 2007,
presidential tallies are higher than parliamentary ones in 130 constituencies.
Parliamentary votes exceed presidential ones in only 69 constituencies. In
2002, conversely, 110 constituencies had a higher parliamentary tally than
    the presidential tally.
There were 325,131 more votes for the total presidential tally in 2007,
compared to the total parliamentary tally, while in 2002; the difference was
50,192, more total presidential votes than parliamentary votes. We note that
the ECK places the gap between Kibaki and Raila Odinga at 231,628 votes.
It is important to determine the origin and allocation of these extra votes—a
determination which, at this point, only an independent investigation into the
counting and tallying process for the presidential vote could determine.
Most of the constituencies with large differentials are in regions that were
closely contested between Kibaki and Odinga, notably Coast, Nairobi and
Nyanza as well as Central and upper Eastern.
    How did these differentials occur?
Four Kenyan election observers who witnessed the last phase of the
presidential vote tallying, when political parties were verifying the results
that had been announced, have recorded their observations in an hour-byhour
log. Their testimonies expose what can only be termed a resolve among
electoral officials—including Commissioners and staff—to obtain a predetermined
outcome, whether supported by fact or not.
They detail a series of electoral offences evidenced the night when political
parties were verifying the results already announced at the ECK’s tallying
centre in Kenyatta International Conference Centre. We have already made a
complaint against the concerned ECK Commissioners and staff to Kilimani
    Police Station.
We provide a table of these anomalies, malpractices and illegalities
committed in at least 49 constituencies across the country. Instructively, in
the constituencies these electoral offences occurred, the presidential election
results announced by the ECK do not tally with those released at the
constituency tallying centres as reported on Kenya Television Network
(KTN) and/or observed by the Kenyan Election Domestic Observers Forum
    (KEDOF).
Again, we reiterate that the electoral anomalies, malpractices and illegalities
noted were sufficient to alter the outcomes of the Presidential election. To
this extent, the counting and tallying process for the Presidential election
cannot be called free and fair. And the incumbent cannot be said to be in
office legitimately or legally. An independent investigation into this process
is necessary to bring the country to closure on this issue. Such an
investigation must be a priority for the mediation process.

  65. Leave poor Jeff Alone. The guy has to eat. He needs his JUA KALI station so he has to kiss his tribesmens’ asses till they finally get knocked out of power. Then maybe his NOT-SO-NICE TV station will bounce to life and we will see Jeff in his usual stride…bribing militia and raping old white DEFENSELESS women he ought to be helping.
Can we now get back to the real issues? Please?

  66. This PNU attitude of Moi rigged in 1992 and 97 so it is okay for Kibaki to rigg is retarded. We are trying to get away from that and they keep taking us back. Kalenjin are not tired of Ruto that is just a figment of PNU's imagination. They have been stealing cows from each other for centuries but they are not know for turning on each other as Mungiki turns on kyuks by trying to become taliban. We should be prepared to be the new Akatas of Kenya where the other tribes view as uncultured, uncivilised kliptomaniacs.

  68. US says final deal not likely on Rice Kenya visit 17 Feb 2008 14:52:35 GMT
    Source: Reuters
    (incorporates KENYA-CRISIS/BUSH, adds details)

    By Deborah Charles

DAR ES SALAAM, Feb 17 (Reuters) - U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice does not expect her visit to Nairobi on Monday to forge a deal to end Kenya's political crisis, the White House said on Sunday.

"Secretary Rice doesn't expect, I don't think, to come away with a final deal," White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said. "But I do think ... they are inching their ways closer and they need a little bit of help to get there."

President George W. Bush is sending Rice to Nairobi to help push along mediation led by former U.N. chief Kofi Annan.

Bush, who is in Tanzania on the second day of a five-nation African tour, said earlier he did not want to dictate how to bring an end to Kenya's political violence but wanted to help Annan.

Bush said he and Rice had discussed with Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete "how best we can help the process. Not what we should do to dictate the process but what America can do to help the process move along".

The U.S. president has thrown his weight behind a power-sharing deal in Kenya to end a standoff over President Mwai Kibaki's disputed re-election which triggered a wave of ethnic killings.

One thousand people have been killed and 300,000 left homeless in the crisis, one of the bloodiest chapters in Kenya's post-independence history.

Annan has said considerable progress was made in talks this week, including agreement for an independent review of the polls. Experts say an agreement on power-sharing terms is the major sticking point.

In an effort to shore up Annan's mediation, U.S. officials said the United States was ready to sanction any individuals who sought to obstruct Kenyan peace moves.

Perino said Rice would not be bringing any incentives with her to Nairobi to encourage the two sides to reach a deal.

She said in talks on Sunday Kikwete told Bush he appreciated that the United States was willing to support Annan's mediation efforts.

"President Kikwete said there is sometimes a belief that Africans can't solve African problems and that somebody from the West has to come and try to solve it for them," Perino said. (Reporting by Deborah Charles; editing by Robert Woodward)

  69. Research Points to Election Fraud

    By Karuti Kanyinga
Karuti Kanyinga, a senior research fellow at the Institute for Development Studies of the University of Nairobi, explains in these excerpts from an AllAfrica interview why analysts have concluded that December’s presidential election in Kenya was rigged.

We’ve been able to look at the multiparty elections and ask ourselves how the 2007 elections compare with other elections and ask ourselves what justifies the claims of irregularities, of vote-rigging and of rigging in favor of a particular candidate, including Mwai Kibaki, the PNU (Party of National Unity) presidential candidate, and Raila Odinga, who was ODM’s (the Orange Democratic Movement) presidential candidate.

Our beginning point was a quick comparison of three elections held on the same day, at the same time, on the same spot: a civic election for local government, a presidential election and a parliamentary election. We are different from many countries – a voter comes to a polling station and is given three ballots for a civic, presidential, and parliamentary election, and the only difference is the color of the ballots... There are very few people who choose not to vote for a councillor – for local government – or not to vote for a member of parliament, or not to vote for president. The only difference is there might be a voter who might spoil a ballot...

In sum, we are saying the difference [between the number of ballots cast in voting for different levels of government] must not exceed one percent. How do we arrive at this one percent? We have done a forensic investigation of the 1992, 1997, and 2002 elections to ask ourselves the minimum number of votes that we can allow as anomalous, caused by spoiled ballots or any other reason. We have come to the conclusion that it is one percent.

In 2007, discrepancies [emerged] that cannot be explained by any scientific method.

Scientifically it does not make sense that out of all the elections that Kenyans have conducted, it's only the 2007 election where you find a difference of five percent [between the number of votes cast in balloting for different levels of government]. In some cases, five percent is a lot of votes because it's comprised of thousands of votes, implying... thousands of people went to a polling station and made a decision: "I am not voting for a member of parliament," or "I am not voting for a councillor. I am only coming here to vote for a president." That's unheard of scientifically, given what we have done in our own country [in the past]...

Put together, we found that the anomalous amount of votes - in all the results - is over 365,000. This number comes from the records of the electoral commission, even after everything had been resolved – implying that a week after results had been announced, after they had cleared their data, we still cannot account for 365,000 votes... The question is: to whom do we attribute these 365,000 votes?

When you do a cross-section of where these 365,000 votes come from, you realize that we cannot attribute all of them to Raila [Odinga], the ODM presidential candidate, because we do not have serious cases of anomalies in the ODM-controlled area of Luo Nyanza... The majority of cases where we find anomalies are in President Kibaki's strongholds, and also on the coast... We are not saying that we can attribute this wholly to that, but scientific evidence is pointing fingers to stuffing ballots, to inflating votes on the coast in order to ensure that the president gets 25 percent of the total [number of] votes. There is a constitutional requirement that a winning presidential candidate must have acquired 25 percent of the total vote in at least five out of the country's eight provinces... And on the coast is where we find very serious cases of anomalies between presidential and parliamentary votes.

Politically, of course, someone may want to argue that this is not true. Politically someone may want to argue that in the past - in 1992 and 1997 elections... the parliamentary votes had a difference of over 600,000 votes [from the presidential elections]. They forget that in both elections, there were 10 constituencies where there were no members of parliament contesting [seats]... meaning, there was no parliamentary election. There was only a presidential election, therefore presidential votes in those two elections were higher than the parliamentary vote.

The bottom line is that this election was fraudulent... that this election appears to have been rigged in favor of a certain presidential candidate, and all evidence seems to point fingers to President Kibaki's strongholds.

  70. Reliable sources now say that the Rwandan military ruler Paul Kagame did indeed get directives from the West (read the US) on his statements to the effect that the Kenyan crisis necessitates that the Kenyan military disposes the illegitimate regime of Mwai Kibaki.

The sources point out to the fact that Kagame waited almost a month after the declaration of Kibaki as the winner of the 2007 Kenyan elections to offer his insights on the crisis in Kenya. This wait was occasioned by the need for the West (US) to gather key intelligence as to the continued support of the illegitimate government of Kibaki and the ripple effect on other countries in East and Central Africa.

It is instructive the Rwanda one of the coutnries that Bush will visit has chilled diplomatic relations with Uganda the one country in the region that has come out in support of the Kibaki regime and is even providing military support to Kenya in many aspects including Kibaki's Presidential guard.

What has been so far frustrating to Rwanda and the US has been the lack of clear organization (or is it fear) from the Kenyan military in coming up with an elaborate plot to dispose Kibaki given that the two countries are ready to provide logistical support for the long overdue move.

Another pointer to this plot has been Tanzania's (Kikwete's) statement in his press briefing with Bush in Dar er salaam today to the effect that African nations sometimes need the help of the West in solving domestics issues even though we are sovereign states.

  73. Here’s the beautiful part you PNU brats. We bloggers constitute a very small percentage of the Kenyan on the ground. In fact, however much we haggle, truth remains that majority of us voted for ODM and we won. You must all be thick in the head to imagine that taking Kenyans on academic exercises might just work your way.
Truth is, no amount of tokenism, propaganda and intimidation worked, and our within our DOMO DOMO, lies our spirit, our fire. Kenyans on the ground are waiting with bated breaths for the outcome of the talks. That doesn’t mean that peace has returned, and neither shall it until we get what is rightfully ours. Watching your sick MPs waxing Lyrical about how Kibaki shouldn’t be forced to share power, one wonders, are these people for real? If today Kenya burns trust me, it is you Gema who will be the biggest losers and you know why. What do close to ten million poor voters living in obscurity have to lose? When Raila declared Kibaki Tosha, the poor voted as a bloc in great expectations.
Now, here’s the deal: No amount of your empty words will change the way Kenyans feel about you, and the only option left for Kibaki other than power sharing is to go the IDI AMIN Way, of which…didn’t end too good for him either. Police have shot at us and killed some of us, but bullets and batons will not drown the voice of the people.
37 Mungiki arrested today taking oaths: So predictable. By the way, mungiki will rein terror in the towns, and kikuyu, but they need to know that….. Kalenjins and Luos are waiting for them anxiously. We are tired of being threatened by some cheaply trained militia. Kenya ni kubwa.

  74. JEFF KOINANGE - get lost. Do your job at K24 or better try to do it since we are all disappointed about your demonstrated Kikuyu allure. And since you say you are a successfully married man, what happened to your wife and the child you were pretending to expect? I was told both have disappeared since it was all a fake story like the Nigerian MEND one. We all know that you and your family are on the side of Kibaki and you only got the job at K24 because you took over being the lover of Rose Kimotho since Police Commissioner Ali was too busy to fulfill his duties with her. Or was it Biwott whose ass you were supposed to 'kiss' to continue being employed. Now that you are back in your native Kenya, you should tell us the truth and not continue telling us lies about MB. She has published your correspondence with her in which you apologize for having raped her and also your former Bosses in CNN believed her. Why else did you have to eath dirt and lost your job?
Come to your senses and do your job as a journalist. Try to get Kenya and its problems into the Media Limelight - maybe like that you can restore some of the trust people once had in your abilities. Or is this too much to ask?
Kenya is burning because of people like your likes. If you ever cared, divert your attention from whining about MB and start caring about Kenya and its people.

No we can even purchase for them more flags so that they can go on with their burning spree, Americans dont care at all they can sak their relatives back in the states!!! I have just come to realise that after all during Moi reign the americans were still ruthless but we never heard the kales burning american flags...Coz they actually knew where their bread was being buttered......So as sycophant Wetangula continue ranting abt outsiders i am left wondering why Kalonzo had to waste tax payer money going on an image building exercise in the US and Uk...Kow come he didn't go to China? COme on guys stop behaving like jilted lovers...The fact is you need the US, UK and the EU, for example where i work it is EU that supports and duh we have a branch in Kisumu, Eldoret, Kericho and Nairobi so do you think China will come and take over. Acheni kupayuka look before you leap and again i repeat dont shit on the hand that feeds you, and by the way what is the significance of America giving TZ over 40Billion, they are sending you a silent message that very soon they will really not need you.....Watch the space na bado

  76. I think Koffi Annan and the team of eminent persons are sympathising with us Kenyans.
I beleive when they first came like the rest of the world they must have been frowning and looking at us with alot of disrespect.
How can a neighbour turn against another??
Having been here for this long he and his team realise the kind of people we have been dealing with for 5 years after making the error of voting for the ugliest, rudest, meanest, most arrogant group of leaders ever??
We have reached the limit and the problem will have to be solved one way or another.
Kenyans are giving the Annan team a chance but in the event these fools continue puking on our shoes who knows what will happen???
