Another Round of Anxiety and Waiting

So we have to wait for some more hours to know our fate as a country? Well, with fingers crossed it will be another long night. Hands on our hearts, hope as our singular asset and against all odds we hope to wake up to good news tomorrow from Annan.

But that ends the hopeful side of things in Kenya. The pragmatic and realistic aspect demands caution laced in a heavy dose of pessimism if our past is any guide. We must take the unexpected speedy climb down from the hitherto hardliners with a sumptuous dose of salt lest we end up naming the unborn who may come out STILL.

It is not pessimistic to factor in other dimensions that could have prompted PNU to create impressions they may not mean and will never respect. The international pressure is immense and the warning from crisis group is grim. Trust our scoundrels to revert to what they master best – buying time with the principal intention of maintaining status quo.

The stakes have never been higher. One minute Kibaki in utter contempt to all parties concerned declares with all bravado that there is no constitutional vacuum. And we are expected to breathe a sigh of relief the same evening praying that some unspecified deal has been hammered. Well, tough luck folks.

You CANNOT succeed in executing civilian coup by STEALING an election using tricks learnt in 1960s. This is the 21st Century and even General Mursharaf couldn't do it with all the military might at his disposal.

Time is of essence and the daggers are drawn. Will tomorrow see the shining blades being housed back in their sheaths or randomly opening skulls and extinguishing Kenyan lines? Your guess is as good as mine. Few hours to go and counting tick tock tick tock….

  1. Well, the regime needs to understand that time is up. Jokes like genocide and other stuff are for toddlers because we have not started to compare the notes. There will be genocide if the regime doesn't get the message that tribe and community is ready to be enslaved. And the regime is full of blockheads that they say "follow the constitution." Hehehe! I though stealing is not part of the consititution. Well, the knife and the yam is in the hands of Kibaki. He will have to decide which one he prefers.

  2. Taabu. PNU is not likely to honor anything. These PNU guys are little devils dancing around a fire. But do not despair. Most Kenyans are with Raila, a mans man. I would be scared if it was weakling traitors like Kalonzo-silent-Musyoka leading us. But since we know that Raila, in a PM suit, will indeed be the de-facto president, we know Kenya will be in good hands.

Kibaki should start reviewing his retirement plan.

  3. Not worried- sources say -Kibaki has no choice- the ball is not in his court anymore!! PM and President powers will be equal- equal presentation in parliament - so kibaki has to disband the previous positions and seat down with his MP;s again- I don't envy him on that?? will he retain Kilonzo Musyoka as VP?? or??

  4. Taabu, let me address you solely.
    You are a PESSIMIST!
For you, the glass is always half-empty and there is no hope anywhere. Let me even venture to say that even in private personal matters, you are just a pessimist who always doubts himself, low self confidence and image as well.
I have never ever seen a positive article from you. Its always doom, doom and ODM.
NOw listen, I know PNU stole the elections, I also know that ODM's Raila is the elected president of Kenya. I know Kenyans want change and elected Raila as our president and Kibaki is a thief...I know all that,
however, I am willing to HOPE!
Coz hope makes all the difference.
Do you know whats happening in Chad? exactly, no one cares whats going on inspite of a MILLITARY COUP...Ever heard of Darfur? see, no one cares...Kenya falls in trouble and the powers that be cannot stop coming in and out of Kenya.
Look at Koffi Annan, its going to be a month--A MONTH--tommorow the 22nd ever since he jetted into kenya for this issue.
Thats why I am willing to HOPE.
If you have followed OBAMA's Campaign, you will understand that everyone is in bandwagon because of the issue of HOPE.
Now, my good friend TAABU (even the name you chose for yourself in this forum reveals the state of your mind! r u an eternal pessimist?)

  6. The only way Kibaki is going to get out of office is by force. I am a diehard ODM supporter and I feel like ODMERs rely too heavily on the western world to deliver the presidency to us. I think our destiny is in our hands and we should act and stop talking too much. Raila and Ruto can engage in on all the diplomacy they want but the fact remains that they did not steal it so that they can give it up easily.

Thanks Jack I agree with you on this one!! in the light of most posts here! the writer always tries to imply that ODM must give up hope of ever running the government or be in any position of power- but we ODMers on here have kept our fellow Kenyans informed and encouraged them not to loose hope!!and that is true on all other blogs- some one who works for BBC (friend) commented that after looking at all blogs on Kenya after elections the message is clear- Kenyans want change!! I'm happy to note that Kenyans in Kenya and in the diaspora are speaking the same language "CHANGE"

  8. Thanks, I actually think TAABU is a PNU MOLE, who always wants to kill the ODM spirit through depressing pessimistic posts. Like u said, no giving up, we will run the government one day and bring CHANGE. And Taabu will be ashamed...TAABU, be positive at least for once!

    You are simply too good
I was worried when I saw Mutula's quoted comment...That "others may not agree.. we are involving other parties.."

Was he refering to Kaloozer, whose party (ODM-K)under any condition is not part of these mediation talks?

Kenyans are not fools. ODM-K should wait for PNU and ODM to do their bit. Then They (Kaloozer) go and negotiate/mediate with PNU.Thats their funeral!

    From The Economist print edition

The political remedy is obvious, but hard to accept

......But on February 21st a government negotiator said that the post of prime minister had been “more or less agreed on”; it would have executive powers but be subject to a sunset clause, expiring either with the dissolution of parliament or the enactment of a new constitution........

  45. ODM and their supporters need to be very careful after all they are dealing with the dreaded Kikuyu mafia. If you recall the Kenyatta succession, these guys are willing to do anything including killing half the cabinet, just to retain power. Here is what Andrew Morton wrote about the Ngoroko:

"According to Morton, the Kikuyu mafia got Mungai train a special paramilitary unit, called the "Ngoroko anti-stock theft unit" to carry out the plot. The unit operated under Mungai. "When Moi first got wind of these machinations, he ordered an investigation [but] before he received the report, responsibility for the police was transferred to [Mbiyu] Koinange, then minister in the office of [President Kenyatta].

"The purpose was to assassinate Moi and other high ranking politicians and civil servants" in the event of Kenyatta's death, Morton reveals. They aimed to lure Moi and 14 other key ministers to State House Nakuru, on the pretext that President Kenyatta was gravely ill and wished to see them before he died.

As Moi and his colleagues gathered round Kenyatta, Ngoroko askaris, armed with silenced weapons, would gun them down. They would then announce that they had been forced into this action because the vice-president [Moi] and the other ministers had attempted to kill Kenyatta as he lay on his sick-bed."

I doubt that the mediation will succeed. These guys will want to have power at all costs.
