A Sober Proposal of The Way Forward

By Guest writer

I’m glad to see from your blog how involved Kenyans have become in their country’s affairs…we have come a long way.

But let us not get lost in the detail for too long; who rigged, how, when and where. Let us rise above discussing people and events that have taken place, and begin to discuss issues and propose ideas on how we can move this country forward

And on that note, here are my proposals:

There can and there must be BOTH justice (fairness, integrity) and peace (harmony, reconciliation, freedom from strife) in our country… not one or the other. Certainly, we should not let this matter go without justice being done, for obvious reasons. But at the same time we cannot allow that process to be enforced through violence.

The older generation is largely tribalistic…and unfortunately they’re the majority in leadership positions in government and business in this country. I look forward to the day when we can elect fresh leaders who’ve never participated in previous governments; people who’ve intermarried with other tribes (like I’m planning to do J ), and who therefore will not share the same animosity that our parents’ generation seems to be harbouring. Intermarriage is one way we can rid this country of that disease forever.

The other thing that will move this country forward is civic education. We’ve got to teach our people to discuss issues and value ideas as opposed to personalities. We can set very specific standards by which our leaders can be judged, and then aggressively educate our people in the grass roots on those standards and insight them to demand that the standards be met! Do people even know what MPs are supposed to do in parliament? Information is power!

We ought to run this country like a business; there must be working systems in place that enable government institutions to run efficiently no matter who’s in power…if one does not perform, they just get fired! No one should be able to hold this country at ransom…whether they’re in opposition or the government.

Long live Kenya !

  1. In a nutshell, what is your way forward. Am I the only one who seems not to see what you're trying to put forward?

  3. Did You see today's Daily Nation that the whole police force was given bonuses amounting to Ksh 600M?

This was for the overtime done during December elections. Every officer got Sh 10K or more regardless of whether your area was rocked with riots or not.

Well done to our officers for defending our land from looters, arsonists, thieves, crooks and mass murderers. Had it not been for our brave officers, thousands could have perished in the so called "people's coup"

My father is a retired cop and always says it's a thankless job. You kiss your family goodbye every morning not knowing whether you will be felled by a nutter's bullet.

The police had every right to protect themselves from bows and arrows, spear and machete primitive savages, protect our land and her people.

There are better ways of expressing your anger than looting, raping and burning down churches where 50+ innocent kids perished for the simple reason of their ethnicity!

Kwani why do we have courts?

I'm hearing all our forces are still on standby even the dreaded Pangani based Flying Squad! With some architects of the botched '82 coup attempt still spilling innocent blood and looming large, we can't afford to be complacent as a nation.

We shall root them out from land, air and sea!

Kenya is bigger than any greedy self seekers!

  4. I also hear the looters were using children as human shield's?

Or attacking our brave forces then running for cover in densely populated areas.

    That's sickening indeed!

    Urrrghhhhh!

  5. What is your forward? Trying to distract the people?
Lets get back to the issues.

People, Raila is self-destructing. As a matter of fact, his latest declaration about his relations with Presidential Aspirant Obama (Cousins--even Dick Cheney is cousins with Obama, and Fred Gumo is cousins with Raila..One big family!) may have been the thing that UNDID him.
International bloggers all over the world are now having a critical long hard look on Raila
    1.) His Muslim Connections
    2.)His al-qaeda connections
3.) His agenda for kenya--albeit one thats very selfish and self promoted
    4.) His connections with Obama
5.)Others have gone ahead to pin point him as one who is behind the killings (wow...how did they know?)

The chilling part is that they are now using this to pile pressure on Obama who has long been accused of being a muslim mole--even a manchurian candidate---in the US race.
Obama is being asked to come out openly to denounce Odinga or bid his presidential bid (no pun intended) goodbye.
This animal is taking a life of its own...Raila created it, it will now UNDO him.

We ask Raila to tread carefully because we want him to become president, but he has a knack for self destruction. Please avoid this, Raila.

  6. Anthony,
Don't trivialise the crisis in Kenya. The INITIAL problem was the state-sponsored heist of the victory. It's still is THE problem. Unfortunately when you introduce sideshows, you reveal how shallow you are and confirm why, even in your pyramid of brilliance you couldn't still this things better than or like Moi before you.

Shame on all of you who celebrate political banditry, deaths of innocent lives that followed and loss of property worth millions of shillings. At the moment I cannot go back to my business in the Rift Valley because of some stone-age politicians glued at SH. A whole generation is stigmatised because of octogenarian imbeciles and their foot soldiers clinging onto ill-gotten power that they hardly need.

Shame shame shame shame (4.5 million times!)

  7. I am quite sure you meant 4.2 million votes--Raila votes?

Kisumu is a (charred)shell of itself. The Luos now have to contend and live with that...maybe Raila will come to the rescue.

    When Gor-Mahia loses--looting and burning.
    When Gor-Mahia wins--looting and rioting.
When Raila loses--looting and burning and rioting.

When Obama lost in NH? they asked for a recount!. Read it here

  9. Weather you give the police bonuses or not, you cannot stop the will of the people. Those shallow minded commentators who are taunting Raila here should understand that he won, and the vote was stolen. Kenyans know that, and Kenyans will not let it go unpunished. You cannot stop an idea whose time has come. No single Kenyan should feel more important than any other one based on their tribe.

Go on, think yourself superior. But your time is coming.

  10. OBAMA WILL NEVER BECOME THE AMERICAN PRESIDENT WHY?

    1. HE IS ASSOCIATED WITH A KILLER RAILA ODINGA AND HIS PROXIES.

    2. RAILA CAME OUT AND SAID OBAMA IS HIS COUSIN
(Kenya's defeated presidential challenger Raila Odinga has claimed to be a cousin of Barack Obama and said that they had discussed his country's post-election violence.)

    3. GOP (REPUBLICANS) WILL UTILIZE THIS PROPAGANDA AND THE AMERICANS WILL NOT VOTE FOR HIM

    4. THEY WILL SHOW ALL THE PICTURES IN KENYA ESPECIALLY KISUMU (where obamas father from)EVICTING,BURNING AND KILLING THE KIKUYUS

    5. THEY WILL ASK OBAMA WHY HE CANT TELL RAILA TO STOP THE VIOLENCE SINCE THEY ARE RELATED AND HE CALLS HIM NOW AND THEN.

    6. FRIENDS OF OBAMA AND THE GOP DONATED 220 MILLION KSH FOR THE KENYAN GENOCIDE THAT IS HAPPENING NOW (READ ODM STRATEGY PAPER)

    7. THAT’S WHY OBAMA LOST IN NEWHAMSHIRE PRIMARIES.

    8. THEY WILL QUESTION THE MOU RAILA HAD WITH THE MUSLIMS AND ALSO OBAMA IS CALLED “HUSSEIN”.DENIES MUSLIM LINK

    9. ALL THE GOONS WHO ARE CAUSING THE CHAOS ARE COMING OUT SAYING “ NO RAILA NO PEACE”

    10. HILLARY CLINTON WILL USE THIS AS A POINTER THAT OBAMA CANNOT EVEN QUELL HIS FAMILY MEMBERS FROM STOPING THE VIOLENCE IN KENYA. HOW WILL HE LEAD AMERICA???

    11. RAILA AND ODM ARE LINKED TO TERRORIST NETWORK AND HE IS USING OIL MONEY TO FUND TERROR IN KENYA.

  12. anon 11:13

Everybody knows the election was rigged, that's one thing.

But what's shocking is how some folks got exposed AFTER the vote, when it came out what the ODM ist all about, what is up with Raila and Ruto.

Instigated ethnic hatered, constant threats of a civil war if Raila does not get his ways, killing and terror. He's just another Moi and maybe even worse. And no, the GSU isn't the only one with guns, Rutos Karamajong Guerillas have loads of guns, too.

No-one is really happy with Kibaki in the statehouse but what is the alternative?

A bunch of reckless Idi Amins?

  15. There is only one way to achieve peace, and that is to declare Raila our duly elected president.

  16. Hi guys
sometimes we have to weigh our options.Frankly i see this protests taking kenya nowhere other than giving kibaki another reason to kill and silence the masses.I personally think that Odinga and Musyoka actually hold the key to peace justice and prosperity. If this two came together they can legally achieve their earlier goals to change the constitution. They have the numbers and nothing kibaki can do to change that.I repeat that Raila and Musyoka should come together and make neccessary changes that kenya needs. Why they should keep blaming kibaki,I do not understand. This two have the ability to change things now and for ever.swallow pride for the sake of kenya. They worked together before, why can't they do it again.Lets be genuine to kenyans. This two have been given mandate by kenyans. For kenyas sake please come together. You guys have the majority in parliament why can't you use it in parliament?

  17. For those who think Kalonzo is the solution, you might be right in saying so.

So was Moi back in the 70s as the compromise candidate.

Everybody sees Kalonzo as the compromise candidate, just wait and see when he emerges from behind the hold of the power brokers ....

Then George Saitoti will be his running mate....

2012 Line up, shaping up on the PNU side, technically ODM-K is dead.

  18. Oh Boy...Were Kenyans All This Triblist. No One Can Talk about Justice Unless He or She Is a Luo or an ODM supporter. No One Can asume That Kibaki Might Have Worn the Election Unless He or She Is a Kikuyu …..As For Me I know And I Can Swear By The All The Holy Books On This Earth That Kibaki Rigged The Election(By The Way I Am Not A Luo) But Still I Can Stomach For 5 Years Under Kibaki Leadership(please note I am not A Kikuyu)Why??? Because I Am A Kenyan I Need Peace today more Than a Just and a Democratically Elected President...Before 27th Dec I had A Growing Democracy A Weak Justice System And Plenty Of Peace. But Now I Lost My Democracy….Stolen by My Presdent. Also I Lost the Weak Justice System…....Stampped By My Power Hungry President...And Lost Some of My Peace by the Could Be President. For The Seek Of My Country For The Seek Of The Innocent Children For The Seek Of Peace Let me Obey This Unjust Power Hungry Presedent That Rigged Himself To Power for the coming 5 years or when he regains his sense and do us some justice…Please note again and I have told you before I am not a Luo Or ODM Supporter or a kikuyu but You can Swear that I am a Kenyan your brother or your sister and I will remain that way until you destroy this beautiful land called KENYA with your triblistic utterances
