Fake Smiles And The ODM-Kenya Show Of Unity

Yesterday the leading ODM-Kenya presidential candidate’s emerged from a 4 hour closed-door meeting with nothing to show for it.

Even more sickening was their insistence to go ahead with their usual show of solidarity holding hands and smiling for the cameras, only that the smiles this time round looked very fake and plastic and extremely forced. The truth is that tensions are still very high within the ODM high command.

The group released a brief statement to the press saying that they would have another meeting at a future date. Clearly this means that they are yet to agree.

Interestingly some crazy rumors are doing the rounds that at least two ODM presidential candidates who boycotted London had meetings with former President Moi and President Kibaki separately shortly before the decision to boycott London was made. Even more sickening is the rumour that blood oaths have been taken to ensure that the son of Jaramogi does not ascend to the presidency.

While there is no way of proving whether the rumours are true or not, just yet, it is clear that there is panic amongst some certain quarters who greatly fear the likelihood of a Raila presidency. Although this blogger does not support a Raila presidency, I strongly believe that everybody should be given a fair chance, especially Raila who has fought the cause of the common man for many years when many others would not dare lift their heads.

Personally I think Raila’s biggest mistake was joining forces with the rattle snakes (certain presidential candidates within ODM). I think he may have been a wee bit too confident of his ability to tame them

  1. While am pessimistic anything tangible will come out of these meetings, I feel that the first step should be to eject the Judases from within their midst before they regroup and strategise afresh. Word has it, they (Judases) have been asked to leave, but the flatly refuse to quit. ODM being an informal grouping, finds it impossible to expel these wayward characters.

It is strange, as it is frustrating, that as you strategise and brainstorm with colleagues, your opponents get a blueprint of what is in yor planning even before you have had the chance to digest it yourself.

These politicians have to be named and shamed, even if it means splitting ODM. The voters might not scatter even if the leaders do.

  2. But guys please tell me how cleaner Raila is vis a vis the other guys. Can anyone tell me any one scandal associated wuith Uhuru Kenyatta as a person/leader, Or even Nazlin Umar or Ojiambo, Kalonzo or Balala. I will tell everyone who cares to listen that ODM is the way to go but Raila Odinga should be a minister in their gorverment. I dont think he is mature enough to be entrusted with the leadership of the country. And again I will say what others wish it never happened. The man is corrupt. Within a very short stint in government, he has so many questions to answer. The sure bet is Kalonzo. What are people accusing him of? Raila once implied he doesnt like him coz he is handsome. These guys are just uneasy that the dude stole the show from them but Kenyans know who can make a president and who cant. If we were stiff bored by Moi's one man show how come some people want to take us back there. Raila has such an inflated ego that I wud never want him to be even a vp leave alone president.
And those guys from Nyanza who keep reminding us that we have only one vote, do u guys have two? Raila will get 800000 votes from one province. He cannot ganner 25% in a massive 7 provinces. Let him be the leader of the Luo,that is big enough for him

  3. I must respond to those rumours about some people meeting Moi. For once that is sheer nonsense. RAila's group always comes with wild allegations whenever someone else seems to be beating their man. Cant the odm candidates make their own decisions to boycott the useless meeting in London. I mean does Moi have to be involved? These elements are the same people who using Raila's campaign tool "The Standard" came up with the fiction that Kalonzo had met Kibaki in state house. This not only turned out to be wide off the mark but it went on to embarass Raila and co. coz Kalonzo got support from all quarters. Now they are using the so called "Most popular blog in Kenya to say Kalonzo and Uhuru met Moi, What cheap minds you guys have? I heard the day in Naivasha Ndolo and Midiwo accusing Kalonzo of meeting Gideon. If vraila is free to meet outcasts like Njonjo and Gachoka who are thjey to question Kalonzo's meeting with Gidi? Guys open you eyes, Kenyans are not ready for a Rail presidency. We are forming a government with president kalonzo, Vp Uhuru (If he wins his seat coz a nominated mp cannot be VP) and prime minister Ruto. Raila will be minister for Roads and Housing hoping this time round he will use his brain to build houses for his luo brothers in Kibera. If he continues being the engineer of rumours that he is Kalonzo will fire him 2morrow morning coz he is just a small useless nuisance.

Chris own up to be a Raila supporter. We are not gonna lynch u for that coz we respect yo right and choice of being in the minority group. But you must be dreamer bigtime to imagine that u can use a blog like this to make us see Raila as someone who can lead. Raila was born to be led but not to lead. Period

  4. Choosing the cheap option of lynching the messenger and conviniently avoiding the message is the height of intellectual naivity at best and dishonesty at worst. All the ODM-K guys have their strengths and weaknesses but to deride one with cheap epithets is to reduce yourself to an elite village masquarading as an in informed chap.

Lest into the hollow trap of bad-mouthing, let the guys wamenyane and may the best candidate win. Forming a government complete with portfolis 10 months in advance is to insult the collective intelligence of Kenyans. ODM-K can ran and rave the much they want and Narc-K too can boil their own oil before they plunge into it head long but Kenya must be saved from political scavangers from either of these camps.

Rumours are just that rumours and to take them so personal without recourse to second thought is to insult your head as mere appendage merely separating your ears. Politics is a game and the heat it generates is mostly felt by the less-valued loud-mouthed rather than the key players. So guys lets sober up and not be cheap and fast in making insinuations that are akin to character assasination. Don't take offence neither don't take it personally, we remain the grass that suffers when the bulls fight. When a fellow human being employs reasoning from the lower faculties, they only succed in making apes look geniuses. Sober up and argue, don't shout and save us your verbal violence (or is it diarrhea?) in print.

  5. My friend Taabu u seem to think that u have a bigger IQ than everyone else. How would u claim other guys who are entitled to their perception of a candidate have nothing between their ears. I personally do not agree with most of their sentiments but that doesnt make them danderheads. I think it is u who is the problem and that's precisely the reason you are turning your heat on them coz you cant step up to the game. Why the crap do u guys want other people to agree with your so called insightful analysis of politics while in essence it is just cheap propaganda made to tune the minds of kenyans into believing that an individual with a questionable character can be enstusted with Kenya's leadership? You are the complete village rumour monger together with Chris. I would have expected that if u have any intelligence to start by questioning the criterion Chris used to come up with the allegation that Raila teamed up with thieves when in all fairness there are at least five presidential candidates with no scandals asssociated with them (Raila is not one of them). And did u forget that these guys are not shouting at u, they are shouting against u and so u r as loudmouthed as everyone else only that we did not want to tell u the obvious.

  6. KIbaki in 1988 told KANU that even rigging elections requires some intelligence. This is the message that should be passed to Chris and company that even being a political propagandist requires u to posses some wit and intelligence. When you tell us of your belief in giving everyone a fair chance, what exactly do u mean? We have presidential nominations coming in threee months time and if Raila has fought for Kenyans they surely will vote for him. Does fairness according to u mean all other candidates should step down for him? If Raila Odinga is as clean and popular as u guys want us to believe then he should be prepared to tough it out with other candidates who believe they are equally clean and popular if not more. Someone suggested in this blog that Raila Odinga never in his entire long life fought for Kenya, he has been fighting for political power to satisfy his ego. Even if we were for a moment to believe that crap doesnt it mean that Matiba or Rubia should be given the presidency without having to go through the rigours of an election. These are individuals who were permanently maimed but they are not considered anywhere when it comes to political big talk. The same thing applies to Raila Odinga, he should compete and compete fairly for that matter if he has any dreams of catching the mirage he is always chasing. In my opinion there are better candidates in odmk but as i like reminding people I have been wrong before.

  7. I can never understand why anybody would support Kalonzo for Presidency. We all know that he stood by "baba Moi" for a whopping 20 years during which the economy was run down, state organisations looted to the ground massive corruption practised, and dissidents like Raila had their balls squeezed in the dungeons of Nyayo house in the practise of state terror. And what did Kalonzo do? Absolutely nothing! Alikaa mpaka dakika ya mwisho kwa hiyo serikali and he would see no evil done at all by Moi. And today he is the greatest democrat, the greatest critic, he sees all the mistakes. When did he develop eyes and ears? Or he had them all the time and if so why did he keep quiet then while akina Raila were pointing them out to their peril. He is the greatest coward I know! And he is not scandal free. There is that small matter of the kashamba he swindled somewhere. Kalonzo is shit!

  8. Having read all the comments I must say that Kenya is slowly learning the tenets of democracy. It is foolhardy to tell people what they should or should not do, whether take stuff personally or not, because in a democracy we are all entitled to our opinions.

It is good to see that the credibility of chris is being questioned. We cannot indulge in one way communication in a 'political blog' such as this. It becomes important for the discerning voter to vet all information presented to him from all sources and this process includes questioning the agenda of the messenger.

Personally, the sentiments from the ODM supporters is that the board room nominations should be discouraged. They mostly feel that a direct nomination process carried out by the ECK should be used in selecting the ODM presidential candidate. I must say that i totally agree with them.

What is Agwambo scared of? The nominations will give the winner bragging rights as he/she will be the only individual with the most influence in the party that hopes to form the next government. However knowing Kenyan politicians, a fallout is bound to take place regardless of the fairness of the nomination process.

I also believe, as i had stated sometime back, the best hope for ODM in terms of winning the election would be to choose Kalonzo. He is the most acceptable candidate to most kenyans due to his laid back political stance. Agwambo is too abrasive, invokes too much passion and consequently is a risk as a presidential candidate.

  9. Cannot agree more with Ngunjiri. People have always accused Kalonzo of waiting for a Tosha declaration but the last time i checked he was the only guy who supported the election of the odm candidate by all kenya's registered voters and if possible go for the 50% plus rule. It makes no political sense to go to the streets at every opportunity to remind Kibaki of the need to have minimum reforms while at the same time u are afraid of the same in your own party. Raila and company could hear none of it and u all know why (If he is so scared of the ballot how is he gonna win the election even if the other candidates were to step down for him. He just cant win,at least not in Kenya). After that they came up with 420,000 dekegates and Kalonzo said fair enough, but within a very short time after seeing the futility of campaigning for the nomination, aila introduced consensus as a method hoping that his cronies Ruto Musalia and Balala will step down for him the last minute. This does sem to work and that is why he is supporting 105,000 delegates because he feels he can manipulate the exercise. But the message that should be sent to him is that the moment the process looses credibility other candidates have the right to stay away from the primaries,as in it has to be all inclusive for the loosers to accept the results. Annonymous has told us of how Kalonzo stayed in Kanu for 20 years but the truth of the mtter is that he has a higher integrity than those so called Nyayo house victims. I know so many people who have suffered supposedly for a cause they do not believe in. Raila epitomises hat president who will take us back to the dungeons, look at him telling people to leave the party. Shit-ODM is not NDP.

  10. Mtoto akitaka wembe, mpe. Why is GEMA (Which as we all know has raped and looted Kenya since independence) not worried about a Kalonzo presidency? Why is the system (ya baba na mama, ie Moi Kabaki) Not too much worried about a Kalonzo presidency?

Thinking of Raila building houses for "his Luos" in Kibera is taking the entire country back into a rut that will NOT deliver us to the next level. That is the old politics of winner takes it all, and using public office to enrich self and tribe. Kenyans deserve better.

Vote for whoever you want, but you must think of your grandchildren if you will make the right choice. Kalonzo is and will remain part of the system, expect no changes whatever he says. Kenya needs somebody who will inflame us to a new way of doing things. To reach new lands one must have the courage to lose sight of land. I would vote for Raila hands down wihtout much ado having studied all the candidates. He does not come from my ethnic group, will never serve my narrow interests, but will certainly change the way business is done in Kenya.

That is what we need, not just someone to win an election. It's not a boy scout trip!!!

  11. What exactly do u mean when u say GEMA is not worred of a Kalonzo presidency? Kibaki's 3wife has persistently singled out Kalonzo for very emotional bashing. Today one of Kalonzo's ardent supporters (Mrs. Mary Mbandi) is in jail for questioning one of those attacks on Kalonzo by Kibaki's wife. If there is one candidate the govt would sleep 25 hours a day if it was sure he was the odm candidate is Raila. Even if Narc were to nominate a Saitoti,Kibwana or Kituyi in place of Kibaki any of these guys can beat Raila with a landslide. This is not emotional but is just the truth--In the unlikely event that Raila clinches that ticket then u can rest assured he will be flag bearer of an empty shell. 80%of odm supporters will not mind a kibaki presidency as opposed to that of Raila. The son of Jaramongi gets irritated by this fact but he knows he just cannot win a presidential election. The last time we did political modelling and forecasting for him we found out tht the mxm he can gannner is 750,000. Now that u support him and we had not factored u in,expect a 750,001 votes score for your odm candidate (If he succeds in manipulating the odm nomination to his favour)
