Nairobians Can't Get Enough Of Raila's Hummer

Raila Odinga's latest acquisition, the Hummer utility vehicle continues to cause quite a stir in Nairobi with residents pushing and shoving wherever the Langata MP stops so that they can catch a good glimpse of the vehicle hat some say costs Kshs 43 million (while others insist that it can be acquired for slightly more than Kshs 10 million. The website says, it depends on various factors and it can cost much less than 10 million) which Raila says is a gift from friends of ODM-Kenya living abroad.

The vehicle has also been discussed in parliament with some government MPs saying that he should surrender it to the speaker since the anti-corruption and economic crimes act stipulates that gifts worth over shs 10,000 should be surrendered.

For Raila, he is enjoying the limelight that the vehicle has given him and he is always seen grinning from ear to ear through the entire journey as he patrols Nairobi during the day and will always stop to address crowds that notice him and the vehicle.

He has even christened the car 'Nyundo' which is a hammer in Kiswahili and goes further to say the current government is so rigid that it needs a hammer to be hit with and what better one than his new ride.

The 5,000cc vehicle is fire brigade red in color with tinted windows but the front passenger seat has its window constantly opened and a grinning Raila is always at hand making gesticulations as it cruises along the city streets.

Over to you, Kalonzo Musyoka.

In Parts Of Kenya A National ID Now Costs Kshs 1,500

Those who applied for identity cards in June last year are yet to get them, worse still those who applied for replacements of lost ones during the same period are also still waiting for the vital document.

Worse still, it has now emerged that some registration clerks are taking advantage of desperate teenagers and demanding bribes of between Sh 1,000-1,500 from applicants who are mostly unemployed youths who need the ID cards to search for employment.

Last night on television, clerks from Kerugoya were exposed in the scum and as usual nothing happened to them though the local MP promised to take up the issue with the anti-corruption authorities.

This being an election year, one can't be branded paranoid for accusing the government of delaying the documents on purpose so as to ensure that the majority of Kenyans, especially the youth don’t vote in the December elections.

The excuses being given by the authorities concerned is even laughable, they claim that there has been a shortage of materials since mid last year and that this is the only thing that has delayed the process of producing the vital documents. One wonders what became of the rapid response initiative that the government keeps on talking about.

Maybe the government spokesman should take other top ministry officials for lessons on how to lie with a straight face or crucial teachings on how to tell plausible half-truths that even the average intelligent Kenyan can somehow believe.
