Unearned Income is, for tax purposes, an individual's income derived from sources other than employment, such as interest, dividends and from investments, such as rental property. Is this what you are proposing to be taxed 100%? Well you can be ignorant but maybe not that stupid. When you are discussing an specialised area like tax, please learn the jargon. Now, do you mean money made through fraud, deception, corruption, conflicts of interest etc. If this is the case, then you are proposing taxation of illegal/ stolen money the %age notwithstanding. Now wouldn't the government be an accomplice since they are benefiting from criminal acts? isnt this an act of legitimising it? Dont we have laws?
On the lamu issue, business around the world is determined by factors of demand and supply fueled by speculation by the players. If a port is going to be built, commonsence will dictate that people will want to buy land there because it will appreciate. How do you think the stock markets work? Investors will buy shares of companies that will increase their net worth and maximise shareholders value.
Now to what Ruto did; that is called FRAUD. Do you think the NSSF board did not know that the land value was inflated?
We have laws in this country. The problem is someone to enforce them. If everyone followed the laws or was punished if they broke one, then we wouldnt be in the mess we are in. This includes everyone from the guy who wakes up late in the morning and overlaps in traffic to the toad in the hill who breaks the same laws he swore to protect!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12839785.post-68190004867888172572009-09-29T20:35:33.114-07:002009-09-29T20:35:33.114-07:00well said DM-Nairobi, well said my man.well said DM-Nairobi, well said my man.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12839785.post-45659824571427511662009-09-29T05:16:01.905-07:002009-09-29T05:16:01.905-07:00Come on Philip.

We need to empower Kenyans on how to make better use of land. We need to prove to the very skeptical Kenyans that one can make a lot of money from land and without getting it free and then re-selling it to the NSSF at the prices of 20 years to come. This can happen even if you do not own the land in the first place. There is no reason why most idle land cannot be hired.

Our comment:

Let us take a factual example to illustrate why hiring of land is not a solution. In fact, it is an improvement of a pervesion.

On 24th July, 2009, the Daily Nation reported that: "Investors scramble for Lamu prime land." http://www.nation.co.ke/News/-/1056/629304/-/ul2en8/-/index.html.

In that story, we are told that "Local speculators who act as linkmen between residents and foreign buyers have been doing a roaring business."

More so, we are told that, "Coast region NMK assistant director Athman Hussein said plots that used to sell for between Sh2 million and Sh3 million have shot up to between Sh5 million and Sh10 million."

Ah! Hear this. Since the Government of Kenya, funded by sweat and blood of Wanjiku who walks hungry, from slums to industrial area has decided to build a port in Lamu, land prices magically have jumped from at least 2 million to 10 million Kenya shillings. Instead of taking this difference and fund the state, we are told that Wanjiru should hire this land from these speculators.

The question is, what have these foreign speculators done to deserve this difference which runs to about 8 million KES per plot?

Is it not robbery that must trouble Creator of this earth to tax Wanjiku so as create land values to be pocketed by a few? Why run away from this ugly fact which can be seen by all?

And, if it is Wanjiku's tax that has brought about these rises, why should she forced to pay twice by asking her to hire this land for her productive use? Where is justice and equity in such diabolical arrangements?

Furthermore, if a speculator must pocket 8 million shillings per plot in tribute before one can put up a business so as to create jobs, is this not a break on investments that we desperately need to create jobs?

If we had 100% tax on unearned income, wouldn't these values revert to Wanjiku's government to fund the police, courts etc? The answer is yes. So, what is the objection to this Mr Chris?

To allow a few to privatise what is public revenue is a way of creating idle moneyed aristocracy while reducing millions into ignorance and degradation through endeless taxation, unremitting and unrequited toil.

We believe that the Eternal Judge will not hold anyone guiltless who supports such arrangements that destroy both the soul and body of the toiling poor. All they require is justice so as to restore what is their birthright or gift by their Creator. Is that too much to ask in the 21st Century?Mwarang'ethehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17751879277752081774noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12839785.post-20138201066247613872009-09-28T09:31:23.654-07:002009-09-28T09:31:23.654-07:00What Kenya needs urgently is a new constitution wi...What Kenya needs urgently is a new constitution with a provision for a transition president. This president should ideally be acceptable right across the board and should be someone who would appear to take the varying interests of most communities in our currently fragmented nation. And for this to work,we would need a person who wouldnt be seen to identify with a particular tribe (like the two usual antagonistic culprits)And for this,I would propose a Mhindi.Yes,we have those who know Kenya as their only home and understand perfectly the problems bedevilling the country and are greatly saddened and frustrated by the seeming lack of direction. After 45 years of doing things the same idiotic way, isnt it time to try something radically different?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12839785.post-23050415494341085222009-09-28T08:52:14.126-07:002009-09-28T08:52:14.126-07:00Chris,
