Desperate moves as ICC noose tightens

Rape victim from Kenya's post election troubles. Her dead child next to her body.

My heart goes out to all those brave people who have been left standing as ICC witnesses in the Kenyan cases at the Hague. More so because I know exactly what they are feeling. I myself have tasted that kind of fear a few times, one instance comes to mind immediately.

I once worked somewhere along Koinange street fairly close the Central Police station and one morning a very pregnant woman came running into our offices looking terrified. At first I could not quite understand what was happening and my first thought was that she had gone mad. She could hardly talk but after we calmed her down a little she informed us that the bank right next door was being robbed. She had tried to open the door and warning shots had been fired inside the bank.

I had been smelling something the whole time that I just couldn't place but as she finished her tale I suddenly knew what it was. Gunpowder or the smell produced when shots are fired very close to where you are.

I rushed to the door and sure enough the bank door which was usually open at this time of the day was firmly shut. But suddenly it swung open and two men supporting an injured accomplice walked out. They were carrying guns. I immediately knew that these were the robbers. They were followed by two other men behind them also heavily armed. I got a very good look at all the men because they were NOT wear any masks. I have lived with cops growing up and so one thing I was very certain of was the fact that at least four of them were policemen. as I watched the robbers carrying a single sack-load of cash got into a yellow car and drove off at high speed. Moments later the place was crawling with policemen asking if there were eye-witnesses. Several of them were sent to me and I told them that I had seen nothing. The KTN camera crew also arrived and were told that I had seen the whole drama unfold. In those days appearing on KTN TV was really something but again I lied to them and told them that I had not seen anything.

The reason was that I was terrified and sure that had I admitted that I saw everything and got a very good look at the robbers, I would never have made it to the witness stand alive.

Now imagine the poor witnesses before the ICC. Not only are they scared for their own lives but also for the lives of their families and loved ones.

The development yesterday where the identity of the first witness in the Ruto/Sang case had her name and photographs splashed all over social media was very unfortunate to say the least. But you need to ask yourself a simple question; who would have the resources and means of finding out the true identity of witnesses and what would their motive be? (answers in my latest raw notes).

This latest move smirks of desperation.

Waki List
The ICC went for the 6 people it felt were most responsible for the PEV. But have you always wondered who is on the Waki list of 40. The names have always been shrouded in mystery because contents of the Waki envelope were never made public? Well you can read the secret list in my latest book Let The Blood Flow. There is also plenty of other information you will not read anywhere else about Kenya's darkest hour.

Some comments by those who have read the book;

After reading this book I have come to the conclusion that nothing can stop this terrible thing happening in Kenya again. God help our country.

Those photographs in your book were from some horror movie that has not yet been made and if made will never be passed by the censor board to be viewed by Kenyans.
.

Great book Kumekucha.

Kenyans must read this and wake up to the fact that this ICC thing is not political and should not be politicized and those of us who want to remain with a country need to change our attitude towards the cases faster faster.

"I never had an inkling that XXXX was one of the main people involved. His name doesn't even appear in the Waki list. Is it true as you say that he is a master of covering his own tracks?

Stayed up the whole night reading your book. Fascinating stuff.

  1. Chris,

Ever read an author by the name of Jack London? If not, you should try him some day. His insights into the bestiality of man was something to behold, something which our politicians unknowingly follow to the letter:

“He had learned well the law of club and fang, and he never forewent an advantage or drew back from a foe he had started on the way to Death. He had lessoned from Spitz, and from the chief fighting dogs of the police and mail, and knew there was no middle course. He must master or be mastered; while to show mercy was a weakness. mercy did not exist in the primordial life. It was misunderstood for fear, and such misunderstandings made for death. Kill or be killed, eat or be eaten, was the law; and this mandate, down out of the depths of Time, he obeyed.”
― Jack London, The Call of the Wild
