Why Kethi Must Win Makueni Senatorial Race

There are many good reasons why Kethi Kilonzo must win the race for Makueni senator slated for July 21st.

Let me start with the less obvious.

She is a single mother. No stats are immediately available as to how many young single mothers we have in Kenya today but at a recent crusade an altar call was made to single mothers to come out for prayer and more than half of the massive crowd came forward.

Single mothers deserve special attention by the government because they are a valuable untapped resource that can help turn round things in the banana republic. Sadly many sharp minds with lots of potential never recover from that usually accidental pregnancy. Kethi was lucky that she had such strong parents. Having a senior politician to eloquently represent the single mothers of Kenya and to be a great role model to show them what can be achieved is a great start.

The more obvious reasons why Kethi must win have to do with the Mutula Kilonzo legacy. I don't know anybody else who has contributed more in the fight for the implementation of the new constitution, especially on the thorny issue of devolution. But sadly the grim reaper did not allow Mutula to finish his work because as we speak the Mpigs are flexing their muscles and have halted much-needed funds from going to the counties and the very people who elected them. Kethi needs to finish her father's work and as fate would have it, the late senator actually introduced his daughter to the Kenyan people at the Supreme court hearings on the presidential elections weeks to his death. It was as if he was saying, let her continue my work.

But what Kenyans must know is that Kethi has had a very hard time making the decision to stand. two days ago she and her brother issued a statement saying that no member of the family would stand and that instead they would focus their efforts on building the law firm that her late father left behind. What the statement did not talk about was the pressure and even thinly veiled threats directed at her not to stand.

Kethi will just have to gather courage and prepare for the long hard fight ahead against some of the dirtiest political players in the banana republic who are all circling the seat, salivating.

She will even need to face off with the mighty TNA political machine that is committed to snatching the Makueni seat from CORD. Harun Mwau has recently been to State house to discuss the seat and observers believe that his PICK party will run as a TNA affiliate in this race.

All Kenyans of good will need to support Kethi. We badly need her kind in Kenyan politics just now.

  1. Chris,

So if single mother is a qualifcation so does a student or poverty.

Emotions and sentimentality aside politics is a game of barbarians played by calculative charactrs.

Kethi has to sell herself above the inherited good goodwill.

    Here comes another DYNASTY.

  4. We dont think single motherhood is her qualification. She has more.
We wish her wisdom to differentiate between the dark forces in Kenya and change willing kenyans.

What we see now in power are devils reverting slowly the small strides we have made towards democracy and anti-tribalism.

  5. Chris,

Let's be honest to one another, shall we?

All it boils down to is she's a Kao and believes the 2013 elections were stolen, proof be damned.

The 2013 elections were more divisive than the 2007 one. Rao (in his element) and Kalooser have really doing a number on their supporters. Wait until the 2017 (18?) elections and the full force of the 40 against 2 is unleashed.

    God help Kenya. We can't.

  6. On the face of it, it is a miracle to gladden the Makuenians' hearts -with a tricky but timely mention of the name K. Kilonzo the highly favoured daughter of the late Senator of Makueni, an act of campaign power with endless political potential.

All it takes is an eagerly expectant crowd of Makueni voters seeking representation in the Senate, rather than continue to be left out in a lonely desolate political situation due to sudden cruel circumstances that were beyond their control.

Talking of an energized crowd of voters who are already fed with hope that the best choice of their next Senator would be a candidate from the political leadership and the very family tree that was once diligently nurtured by none other than their beloved Senator, the late Mutula kilonzo.

The Makueni public, at this point in K. Kilonzo's - soon to be a busy political - life, at least, cannot get enough of her, and because of their craving for her to represent them in the Senate, given her presence that is seen as that of a fresh face, not to mention her sterling legal performance last March.

So, faced with their collective political need, K, Kilonzo may just be the choice that produces the best next alternative candidate for the senatorial bid and representation for the masses of Makueni County.

She has what it takes politically and may end up helping engineer a totally different breed of the next generation of young women politicians that the country really needs at the moment and in the years to come.

As opposed to the current crop of "double-faced" female politicians who have yet to find their rightful place in politics, let alone dare to stand up and be counted when it matters most for the sake of the nation's best interests.

Standing up with the Kenyan people and against the huge salary demands by their counterparts, and an ongoing hubris that will only contribute to the ballooning wage bill and poor governance at the public's expense as well as country's.

    Okay, your wish is granted.

Can you now go ahead and educate us where the Father and Mother of us all shall get the resources from?

    Hear this now:

"Kenyans face hard times ahead as State sinks deeper into debt."

"Kenyans may soon be facing tough times as the Government borrows heavily to fund its expanded operations and the ambitious projects pledged under the Jubilee manifesto.

The latest signs of a possible return of high interest and inflation rates were seen last month, when the Government’s volume of borrowing through Treasury Bills and Bonds swelled to Sh1.1 trillion from Sh858.8 billion a year ago.

According to official data from the Central Bank, the Government’s weekly borrowing also climbed to a high of Sh300 million, with securities accounting for a huge chunk (93.5 per cent) of the gross domestic debt on May 24."

NB: Each week KES 300 Million!

Why do you tax Wanjiku, cripple her, then, FIRST PAY YOURSELF FOR DOING NOTHING, and then, take back the remainder in the name of devolution of the resources???

Anyway, since your Senators are just another LAYER OF BEGGARS who are BEGGING money for the BRAIN WASH schools, from a nation which is itself a BEGGAR from the Asians, as we are reading here:

  8. Chris,

Some of us, Fulani wa Fulanis, hate to go tribal on all Kamba women who are in good standing with their respective families, Kamba community at large and country of birth ("origin").

Excuse some of us for asking, what is Keith ... Kalonzo middle name?

Because the majority of Kamba woman take real pride in their cultural upbringing, and they will not hesitate to let friends, neighbours, schoolmates, colleagues, among others, know about their Kamba given names, such as Wanza, Mumbuwa, Mutinda, Wavinya, Nduko, Ndunge, et al.

Does it really matter? Yes it does in many ways than most outsiders will ever know why having a such a name is of very vital importance to those concerned, besides just owning the family name, marital name, if any, and a given European - 'Christian' - name or Arab - 'Muslim' - name.

  12. Is Makueni really ready for a highly educated person like Kethi Kilonzo in 2013? Or will the county be real ready for a woman of her calibre in 2017/18?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Chris,

How can K. Kilonzo - begin to - finish her father's work when the late Mutula Kilonzo had not even began, let alone release a blueprint for his senatorial duties and responsibilities for the people of Makueni?

    ReplyDelete
  14. What does Kethi Kilonzo know as a certainity with regard to the senatorial race for the Makueni County?

It is important to see the logic of other people's thinking as to whether Kethi Kilonzo would be the main woman - candidate - for Makueni County senatorial seat.

Especially those who begin with what they know and then try to make sense of what is less clear, such as why Kethi Kilonzo has had a very hard time making the decision to stand?

Kethi Kilonzo the articulate lawyer and debutante of 2013, may have won hearts of larger pockets of the population when she made her presence known and felt in the country's highest court in March of this year.

However, the question that lingers on many people's minds is whether Kethi Kilonzo the daughter of the late Sen. Mutula Kilonzo, will be able to win the hearts, minds and majority crucial votes of the people of Kibwezi, Kathonzweni, Mtito Andei, Mbooni, Makindu, Kaiti?

Without forgetting the other Makueni County residents living in lesser populated areas of Kilungu, Wote, Kasikeu, Kilome, Kisau,Matiliku, Mbithi, Tulimani and Wote.

Or will her sterling performance at the Supreme Court during the last presidential election petition hearing be all she wrote - as in all Kethi Kilonzo will ever write for decades to come?

  15. No stats are immediately available as to how many single mothers we have in Kenya today ...

One in every five families or households has had and will have a single or two episodes of a daughter ending up as a member of one of the largest constituencies in the country, that has come to be known as the ever growing community of single motherhood aka "mothers with a child or several children out-of-wedlock" - excuse the politically incorrect connotations.

That is why some of us never take a black and white view regarding the issue of young single mothers of Kenya, lest we offend or step on the sensitive and hurting toes of many individuals, families and other people living in the grey area, including others with different beliefs and ways of life.

But at the same time, would like to find out why should young single mothers of Kenya be in need of a great role model to show them what can be achieved after the fact, in this day and age where variety of options and broad preventive measures are at the disposal of the younger generations such as the 'morning after pill' (MAP) and many other different preventive gadgets?

So, why don't some of us just go ahead and recommend to the eleventh parliament to pass a new motion that will create an extra seat for W-Rep for 'Single Mothers of Kenya'?

By the way, lest we forget that for every single successful survivor like Kethi Kilonzo, there are five hundred other unsuccessful out there who took or were forced to follow a different path for whatever reasons.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Chris,

Hidden within what some of us think we see so clearly, is a subversive political undercurrent that grows up in unexpected ways until what we thought we know ends up thwarting all of our attempts to load certain kinds of agendas and unfit candidates over unsuspecting voters, in this particular case, the people of Makueni County.

There is always a mismatch about what some of the things that are intended to happen and what really ends up happening when all is said and done.

That is one of the reasons why the political business of the people of Makueni County has just turned into a very interesting circle of soon to be an angle biting campaign activity if the parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, sons, daughters and wives of Makueni County begin to throw their whatever hats and what have you into the open ended byelection ring.

Of all people in Makueni, who would have expected that Mama Nduku Kilonzo would dare join the fray by throwing her half straw hat into the mix of things, inspite of the fact that her step-daughter, Kethi Kilonzo, a highly liked member of Sen. Mutula Kilonzo's household, had already made her political intentions known?

Further, why did Mama Nduku Kilonzo make a calculated move that borders on political suicide, by associating herself or moment of declaring her candidature in the presence and murky support of a rejected and very radioactive politician like Charity Ngilu?

Will Mama Nduku Kilonzo be able to overcome the political inheritance label - which seems to be her only card at this stage - if she has any hopes or expectations to out outsmart, outplay and outlast her soon to be political rivals, such as potential heavyweights like Prof Kaloki, Harun Mwai, et al?

With all due respect, who is Mama Nduku Kilonzo, politically seapking, and what was she - really - among the people of Mbooni, let alone Makueni County, besides having been known and vicariously honoured as the 'second' spouse of the late Sen Mutula Kilonzo during the time he was still alive and doing political business on behalf of the constituents of Mbooni constituency?

Has she forgetten the fact that Makueni County is not Mbooni Constituency in so many political, social and economic ways?

    ReplyDelete
  17. A step-mother to face off against a step-daughter who happens to have a very vibrant and engaging lifestyle of a top legal mind!

It is not a question or an issue of trying to speak on behalf of the majority voters of Makueni County, but it will definitely be a no brainer if the senatorial byelection boils down to a choice between Kethi Kilonzo and Nduku Kilonzo.

The people's preferrable choice between the two would be so obvious in terms of finding a worthwhile replacement for the seat left vacant by the late Sen Mutula Kilonzo.

  20. The hardness of life in Makueni County and other neighbouring counties, the struggle it presents the residents nearly every day, is easy for - outsiders - to pass over, but difficult ultimately to ignore by all accounts.

All things considered, the everyday world of Makueni County should be in search of a lifestyle and political leadership that is fundamentally different from the one along the lines of old business as usual as was the case before March 2013.

All that the residents of Makueni should be looking out for after the byelection is a world that will embody real progressive politics of good governance and real development throughout the county.

If only the people of Makueni County have the eyes to see and the ears to hear, then they should start challenging the mainline mentality by asking what it means to prepare themselves and their county to move forward in a totally different direction once the byelection has been held, and the best candidate elected.

Lastly, what will the candidates seeking election bring to the table of Makueni County in terms of of the agenda of development and senatorial leadership?

What is it that she really needs this time around after having been rejected by the majority of voters during the last general election?

  26. When will Kethi Kilonzo, the seasoned lawyer, declare her final verdict - say yes or no - as to whether she going to be among the contestants for the senatorial race of Makueni County?

Or will Kethi Kilonzo, who kind of claimed that she didn't to be cursed in one way or another, continue to say no when in reality she means yes?

So, is she in or is she going to remain out for good? Or has the fear of an immediate ancestral curse already taken a toll its toll?

As the family drama continues to unfold with new twists and turns, it is now obvious that whoever said ikulacho ki nguoni mwako must have known a lot more about other family members (who) are envious of Kethi's rising star and have not backed her.

It goes without saying that some of them believe they should have been the ones people are demanding to be their next Senate for Makueni.

Unfortunately for most of them, the people's demand for Kethi places an immediated reversal of fortune upon some of her family members who thought they were already powerful, more suitable and cultural righteous to be fronted as the rightful successors of the late Sen Mutula Kilonzo.

Further, for all of them, it will be a case of too little too late due to the fact that one of their own in the person of Kethi Kilonzo, is already a front runner with both an insurmountable need and a startlingly clear vision and confidence in her proven capacity to overcome the insurmountable.

And the only thing that stands between her and the Senate seat is the eagerly awaited Makueni by-election, where it is believed that she will give her known opponents a real run for their tons of money that is already being passed around as if dozens of oil wells were recently discovered in the county of Makueni.

On the other, what was poor Nduku really thinking when she agreed to be pushed around and tricked into uttering the poorly thought out idea of declaring that she was willing, able and ready to step directly into her late husband's larger than life political shoes?

As others would say, heri angejikwa kidole kuliko ulimi during her last Sunday's miscalculated pronouncements under the false encouragement of dark political forces that are already hoovering all over Makueni County in search of self-serving agendas and warped intrests.

Talking of people who may have driven Nduku into believing that they were offering her sisterly affection and merciful compassionate treatment that may have been laced with misplaced political assurances that they will guarantee her ascension to the Senate without any difficulties from her step-daughter, Kethi Kilonzo, and veteran politicians who have declared an interest in the senatorial race.

Anyway, will Kethi say a real yes this time around?

One day, these HONORABLE men and women who FEED, CLOTHE and PAY the ARROGANT PARASITES and SCUMS who call themselves professors, lawyers, politicians, ANALYSTS and such nonsensical names, shall know the TRUTH.

What a happy day shall it be when those who do HONORABLE JOBS shall dictate how much they shall pay THEIR SERVANTS and PARASITES who today in a foolish political BABYLONIAN economy clothe themselves as masters of those who do USEFUL and HONORABLE work of FEEDING and CLOTHING mankind!

With that, we are off to enjoy:

Chant down the Babylonian Political Economy,

that elevates IGNORANT PARASITES while degrading those who are HONORABLE:

  39. Kethi, what's wrong with the enemies of your late father? They are digital (in creating parallel erection list, stealing votes, etc), they murder one another, they are homosexuals (change sexuality, marry same sex and even in UK and in US), they steal, cheat and are money+property worshippers even their cardinal. What can be done, can the senate heal these people?

  42. @Mwara,

Talk is cheap. Please walk the talk, will ya?

You are a typical e-PARASITE blogging and broadcasting how brainy you are (in EU) instead of going back to Mbeere to tend miraa farm.

Funny how you wait for any headline to twist in expanding your EGO and advancing your sense of self-importance and superlative "braininess".

Simple question. Just ask yourself what have you done to humanity? Bring the sermon on.

Just as the good physician should go and offer his services where the SICK are most NUMEROUS, also, the man of WISDOM should take up his abode where FOOLS are THICKEST in order to CONVICT them of their FOLLY and REPROVE them.
