Dangling between the dark blue sea and the evil is not something anybody wants upon him/herself. With regards to the IMPERIAL CRIMINAL COURT (ICC) case against their top two elected leaders, Kenyans are better advised to consider themselves as kids of an impaired pair of parents. And here are the grim options about the defective parents:
- a) Disown them and claim another set,
- b) Accept and help them deal with their fate,
- c) Pray to God to remove the defect,
- d) Act like you were never born,
- e) None of the above (mint yours).
But as the maxim goes truth is the first casualty of war. Our war was internal and peaceful, or so it appeared. That elusive pease was/is a product of PEACE COMA. The media suffocated Kenyans with scare narratives laced with the near-Armageddon of 2007/8.
We ashamed both CNN and BBC. We refused to provide Reuters and Getty with pictures of burning houses/churches full of crying children. Foreskins were saved from rusty machetes.
Media's professional surrender albeit with the very best of intentions brought us the artificial peace albeit.
One thing to point out is the fact that Kenyans have the capacity to keep peace, real or otherwise. We painfully and peacefully waited for presidential election results for a whole five days while our fuses snapped after only 72 hours in 2007.
So what has changed? Nothing. The same manual counting of votes in both occasions with even a more complex election this time round.
The verdict is we allowed ourselves to be petrified with fear of the unknown that made IEBC get away with criminal incompetence that costed the Kenyan taxpayer more than KES 10B.
You need no further proof of a divided nation than the social media. If Kibaki betrayed the 2002 revolution, then IEBC botched the transformation wrought by the new constitution.
Kenyans often fervently demand the truth but unfortunately cannot handle it. We allowed terror to infect our national conscience and succeeded in masking our fears.
Congratulation to Kenyans for making the 2013 election an event to ENDURE.

The REAL question is this:
- why do we talk about peace all the time yet we lack it?
- why don't the Swiss ever, ever, talk of peace, and yet, they have it?
Unfortunately, the above REAL issue cannot be raised or answered by the TUTORED CLASS, i.e. IVY LEAGUE OF FOOLS GRADUATES.

They live by the gold standard instead of depending on loans, aid, grants and handouts from the northern hemisphere and china.
The never flactuating or dwindling profits from their own gold reserves, as well as other people's gold that has always been entrusted to them for safe keeping since the late 1800s, ends up taking very good care of their own, from the very wealthy to the not so wealthy, including the constant streams of economic, political, cultural and religious refugees who flock to Switzerland in search of a real better life.
As a matter of fact, the Swiss have a well established national safety net that really works for all of its citizens.
On the other hand, Kenya has had a zero system of national and regional safety nets since December of 1963 to the present day.
Why? Good question for the country's politicians as well as the electorate that elects them and keeps them in power at their own great expense.
Kenya's GDP has always been and still is wasted on a very bloated government payroll, including so many other officially sanctioned ETPs ('eating together projects').
The nation and its people have vehemently refused to put the economy and stability first and especially above the destructive and time wasting seasonal - five year - election politics.
What has really changed for the average mwananchi since December of 2002?
Has the Kenyan version of democractic elections changed that much since the 2003 or 1960s?
What about the nation's collective psyche?

ReplyDeleteTaabu, how comes the owner and financier of Manyunyu Rangers Football Club is the only person being depicted holding - but not brandishing - a very familiar and one of the most feared club log in his left hand?
Yet the other - yes that other one - very well known owner (but not financier), manager and lifetime coach of Rasharasha Rovers Football Club was not depicted alongside his archrival - Mr Manyunyu - in the perennial primiere political league (PPPL)?
Have some of us already decided to forget the obvious, especially what has taken place or goes on between the top two football clubs in the PPP league?
In other words, it takes two teams to play a soccer match on the same pitch - field - for ninety minutes, plus the usual extra time allowed by the referee, Mr IEBC.
While at the same time being cheered on by their legions of rowdy diehard fans and other closeted supporters who normally occupy the reserved seats in the intelligentsia section, all of whom are known to have a penchant for extreme form of taunting during and after the match.
So, where is the equivalent depiction of the owner (not financier), manager and lifetime coach of Rasharasha Rovers Football Club, holding one of the most dreaded signature - volatile - log of his football club, in either one of his hands?
Anyway, it would been fair to have both football club owners portrayed for the sake of fairness, transparancy, and the right to know for the multitude of fans of the prennial premiere political league (PPPL) in the world of Jamuhuru.

ReplyDeleteThe one that was democratically elected, or the one, the good side, that the public should make sure they get in the next five years?
We, the people, have been meaning to tell others in our midst, that we are very much aware of the fact there is a real human element besides the political component in the ongoing petition hearing that will have to be resolved by the Supreme Court at one point or another, so that the business of the executive can be jumpstarted once it has exchanged hands as stipulated in the constitution.
Unfortunately or fortunately, we, the people, from all walks of life will be subjected to the expected thrill of victory or unbearable agony of defeat depending on what side of the political divide we belonged during the historic moment on March 4th.
In the meantime, there are those of us who are stilling wondering from the political sidelines as to whether the ongoing petition hearing has a larger purpose: making the life better for all citizens of Kenya, without restricting itself for the express benefit of the usual properous suspects, the select few.
Or, whether the process is just one of the usual old time political battles that will be played out among the prosperous few, and eventually settled in a 'winner take it all' Kenyan style, but with a new twist, the approval and proper consideration by the Supreme Court.
Anyhow, let us wait for the expected thrill of victory or the unbearable angony of defeat, whichever comes first along our paths of political affiliations.
Is there any place in the country where some of us can go and walk off the petition hearing fatigue that has began to set in?
ReplyDeleteIn the meantime, there is no doubt that a time will come for whoever is declared the big loser after the petition hearing, to have the real courage that will assist him to divest himself of his political assets, end the regional chokehold on his people, and other ethnopolitical entitlements, once and for all.
The idea of having the loser take a long vacation far away from Nairobi County, as well as from the business of the Senator and parliament, will go a long way in providing a conduicive environment for the next adminstration to transition.
It will not matter not whoever it is, because the current political fencing that is going hind scenes while the petition hearing is in progress, is not contributing anything of worth to the rest of the nation, other than jostling for survival and plum appointments for the well connected politicians and usual insiders.
The people will have to put the country first or kwanza and the outcome of the petition hearing second, because the next president will not facilitate the purchase of forty acres and three hybrid cattle for every household in the rural area, and free mortgage for every adult living in the urban areas.
Wananchi will all continue to fending for themselves in the manner in which they have done in the last ten years, since Kibaki's adminstration began.
