3 BIG horses for Nairobi Senator

Battle for Nairobi Senator
From left to right; Maina Njenga, Bishop Margaret Wanjiru and Mike Sonko

If you thought that the battle for Nairobi senator would be a 2 horse race, then think again. Controversial former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga has been cleared to contest the seat by the Mkenya Solidarity Movement party.

His remarks on being cleared are even more interesting; “The party chose on me because I have a plan to transform the city and improve the lives of the people of Nairobi,”  Njenga told the press.

If some Nairobians have been throwing up because of the front runner for Nairobi governor, one Ferdinand “rusha mawe” Waititu, then one wonders what they will do when they realize who two of the front runners for Nairobi senator are.

Although I have said that I am with the low-lifes in my political views and thinking, I can imagine a high powered delegation seeking a twin city deal with Nairobi, say from London sitting down with a meeting with governor Waititu and senator Sonko. You can imagine the quality of that conversation. But alas that is for the majority of voters to decide. Since you Nairobians have promoted policies that have encouraged slums over the last 30 years or so, it is time to pay your dues, is it not?

The local media seems to have a policy of giving Njenga a blackout as much as possible and for good reason. People still fear Njenga because to them he still represents the dreaded Mungiki whose signature has always been decapitation.

Like him or hate him, there is no doubt that Njenga will start out as joint favourite with Sonko to be the first senator of the city. The truth is that Njenga still draws huge crowds and will have no problem collecting hundreds of thousands of votes before he even opens his mouth to say a single word.

Nairobi has 1,778,903 verified voters and this is one race that will be impossible to call. Actually it could go to any of the 3 candidates.

Nairobi has a huge number of Mungiki sympathizers who will vote Njenga and in this way he could pip both Sonko and Wanjiru. It is also possible for Sonko to win by a small margin because he too has massive support in the city. A third scenarios is also possible. And that is Sonko and Njenga could split the votes and Wanjiru could then end up winning by a small margin.

At this rate the race for president will be pretty boring in comparison to the battle of Titans that will be going on in Nairobi seeking the governor’s and senatorial seat respectively.

It is now abundantly clear why ODM has been so eager to avoid fielding a Luo candidate for the senatorial seat namely Elizabeth Ongoro who incidentally has booked her place in history books by being the first minister in Kenya to give birth while in office, which happened in November 2011 when she was assistant minister for Nairobi Metropolitan Development (see picture at the bottom of this post). What ODM has been doing switching around people and claiming that they are settling disputes is very wrong. Why hold nominations and collect hefty fees from candidates when you know you are going to give somebody a direct nomination? Incidentally when they give direct nominations they should refund all monies spent including campaign cash to all aspirants. That is only fair isn’t it? Anyway I digress.

Ongoro’s candidature would have caused the race for senator to degenerate into a tribal issue. I am not sure what Mrs Ongoro was thinking putting herself up for the seat but clearly she would have lost both the seat and plenty of dignity. Nairobi politics like the politics of any big city is ruthless and certainly not for the feint-hearted.

So which of the 3 candidates will win Nairobi senator? Your guess is as good as mine although I would put my money on Mike Sonko.

  1. Chris,

Take comfort in one thing, there will never be class wars in Kenya. The tribal pull is stronger than all others and until it snaps, no issue based siasa will ensue.

PS: Speaking of Ongoro, ever heard of ROYAL passion? Lucky Mr Ongoro.

  3. Mythologically speaking I would like to go on record by stating that Askofu Mhashama Wanjiru will trounce her opponents, Gideon Mbuvi Kioko aka Mike Sonko, the former Makadara MP, as well as get forty to fifty percent more votes than the late comer aka political opportunist Maina Njenga.

There is no reason at all as to why Airobians should destroy their hopes and chances for a better political, economic and social future by wasting their one time collective vote on the other two candidates with very questionable backgrounds that will never ever pass the integrity litimus test from a fifity mile radius.

Airobians will do very well as a metropolitan society and county if the majority among them decide to elect Askofu Mhashama Wanjiru as their new Senator.

Otherwise, if they are going to go a head and kill themselves politically, economically and socially by casting the majority of their votes for one of the two self-declared candidates other than Askofu Mhashama Wamjiru, then what will they be trying to accomplish through the futile excercise at the polls on March 4, 2013?

    Askofu Mhashama Wanjiru tosha!

  4. Good analysis Bwana Chris. I too would put my hard earned cash on Mr Mike Sonko who is one of the most "tribeless" politicians in Kenya. I doubt Mungiki adherents registered this time. I heard they were scared stiff of leaving their fingerprints on those Govt computers. Wanjiru is quite a divisive figure who many say should either choose religion or politics. Furthermore, her degree saga which many people claim to be fake damaged her credibility. I hope Sonko and Maina Njenga supporters will not clash because it would take weeks to quell such fanatics.

    At Nairobians?

What do you mean by such a vague term?

And, by the way, there is a guy from Mars. He wonders, would you be kind enough to ELABORATE these policies the so called Nairobians have pursued and have encouraged slums?

So, have the conversations with IVY LEAGUE of FOOLS Graduates brought to us?

    Listen bwana:

Whether you have Waititu or Kidero, the END RESULT shall be the same. So, you are engaged in non argument!

Why is it so difficult to see the obvious?

Anyway, since saying something is what matters and not the substance, we retreat to listen to the Rasta Man who seems more intelligent than ALL of the IVY LEAGUE FOOLISH Graduates with their DEGREES in this and that.

By identifying himself with the purported poor of Nairobi, Waititu is riding on the TAIL OF A TIGER.

No one wants to be poor AND Just telling the poor you are part of them is not enough. The poor want security and food, then power and water, then next good roads and schools. The hierarchy of needs will change as the wealth increases.

The only way to have a Nairobi that belongs to all is by having policies that will transform our city into a modern metropolis. The moment we engage in tokenism of merely providing bread and water for today, and failing to plan for tomorrow, then we will be sowing the seeds for our own destruction.

Waititu has to take up the challenge of leadership by selling to the people of Nairobi genuine and not fake products. Unless he wants us to take the bottom spots from Harare and Lagos.

All charlatanry comes to a screeching end. The crowd that is excited by the antics of the clown will come to realize they were sold fake drugs and will put the clown to the burning stake. A tiger is the biggest and most powerful of the cat family.

When you ride on the tail of a running one, it will take you far, but you pray it doesn’t stop to realise you are riding, for it will eat you up. Nairobi is crying for a leader, a true and humble leader (and not a COMDEIAN/BAFFON).

Couldn't agree more but unfortunately that is exactly what the previous three adminstrations, the glorified NGOs and the holy-than-thou religious institutions that are steeped in a business as usual mode have been doing in the last five decades.

All the candidates vying for the gubernatorial, senatorial and parliamentary seats need to be served with the precautionary tale of not hanging onto a rabid tiger by the tail, or worse, trying to ride the popular political bandwagon of the moment.

The city of Nairobi has wept and bled for far too long in search of pragmatic and visionary leaders to fill all enchelons of local government and the private sector in the last five decades but to no avail.

Unfortunately, all the weeping city in the sun ever gets are leaders who are closeted nazi-tribalists, crooks, swindlers, looters, murderers, and robbers, the Ali Baba types with their carefully selected forty sychopants among others who have always been fixtures within the entire city of Nairobi.

And worst of all, it is the other comedic characters that have deluded themselves into believeing that their education - 'PhDs', etceteras - and half-baked little mzungu type of corporate experience makes them more qualified to run a comospolitan area with the magnitude of the tasks that are common place in Nairobi.

For our information, well known political clowns and small percentage of MPigs are just half of the problem, it is the educated clowns with theoretical PhDs, the so-called cortically subilluminated minds in our midst, who have always been the real problem and certified blueprint for Nairobi's fifty years of abject failure.

If we, the common people, may ask, what is the point of having a higher education if it can not be put to practical use for the most good in our cities of Nairobi, Mombasa, Nakuru, Kisumu, Eldoret, Nyeri, Nanyuki and elsewhere?

Ans: Just turn it into a decorative piece on the wall and allow it to collect dust for the rest of its days in the company of its sole owner.

    We CORRECT him a bit.

The POOR do not need security and food, water etc. That is the Communist/liberals so called way of looking at things, i.e. CONFUSED/MUDDLED way of looking at stuff which brings them to STUPIDITY of the WELFARE STATE!

Kenya, and ANY other NATION, can only have the above when IT INCREASES its LABOR'S PRODUCTIVITY.

Therefore, the problem in Kenya is simply that, WE ARE NOT PRODUCTIVE as we ought to be.

And, the ROLE of a KEEN LEADER/SCHOLAR/ANALYST is to FIGURE out why our productivity is low.

    Sample this:

    (a) In Singapore, on average, a working person in 2012 produces WEALTH worthy around $ 56,694 a year.

    (b) In Kenya, an average person is producing WEALTH worthy $ 1,001 - $ 2000 p.a.

    PEANUTS!

So, bwana Korir et al, PLEASE, stop yapping about the so called lack of roads, water, schools, health etc. That is not the PROBLEM.

That is the SYMPTOM of a very or a NON - PRODUCTIVE SOCIETY!

With that CORRECTION, we retreat to enjoy:

  9. Once a Mungiki always a Mungiki. Violent people never change their fanatical ways that have evolved into a very lucrative industry for them. It goes without saying that those who live by Mungiki's creed end up dying at the hands of Mungiki due to perennial power struggles.

  10. What did Elizabeth Ongoro do for the people of Nairobi during her tenure as an assistant minister for NMD? Any projects or initiatives that were spearheaded by her, or worth mentioning if any? What did she do for the children, women and the elderly of Kasarani and rest of Nairobi Metropolitan area?

Assuming you just arrived from MARS, or just GRADUATED from the IVY LEAGUE of FOOLS, we say this:

Any meaningful project in Kenya/Africa, must be approved by the SPIDERS Kenyans call DONORS or DEVELOPMENT PARTNERS, i.e. UNDER DEVELOPMENT PARTNERS.

So, it does not matter what ideas you have. The last word SHALL come from the above mentioned SPIDERS.

More so, these SPIDERS are very happy to fund such STUPID IDEAS like:

    - building TOILETS in Kibera, or

    - Vijana KUWASTE TIME courtesy of EMINENT men like Raila Odinga, he of CORD.

But, if you seek to BUILD POWER TRANSFORMERS, which would EMPLOY the Kasarani people, NO APPROVAL WAS/IS GIVEN by the SPIDERS. And, that IDEA has died a NATURAL DEATH.

We are aware that, as they/you ANALYSE so called OPIUM SESSIONS, very few EVER notice such SILLY stuff. Bure kabisa!

With that reminder of the REALITY as opposed to usual DELUSIONS, ILLUSIONS and CHILDISH FANTASIES, we leave to enjoy:
