This evil man called Moi

Kenyans have very short memories indeed, and they will quickly forget and forgive you—especially if you have a lot of money. And it really doesn’t matter how you earned your cash. Indeed it would seem that most Kenyans would not hesitate to sell their souls to the devil for a few miserable coins.

This is something that Daniel arap Moi knows only too well and uses to the maximum to get his way. Every time. He used it when he was president and he is still using it now in semi-retirement.

Let me jog your memory a little more (and inform younger Kumekuchans at the same time). When the clamour for the re-introduction of multiparty hit the country in the 90s there are Kenyans who gladly gave their lives so that today I am able to write this blog and you are able to read it without looking over your shoulder (or burning it and flashing it down the toilet if it was a newspaper). For those who are not aware Moi’s secret police used to hunt down government dissidents even in the West. It did not really matter where you were, they would find a way to get to you and get you.

As precious Kenyan blood was being spilt so that a day like this one would arrive where we would be on the verge of ushering in a brand new constitution, other Kenyans (like William Ruto and Cyrus Jirongo) saw the whole thing as a major business opportunity (just like the current No campaign by them is yet another business opportunity that will pay off big time).

My intention today is not to bore you by re-hashing history but to make the point that one of Daniel arap Moi’s favourite carrot sticks to pull everybody in line that is pretty effective is something called cash. Or shall I say cash incentives? And how did Moi earn his vast wealth? Did he do a Bill Gates? Or perhaps a Warren Buffet? I assure you he did not even come close to doing a Njenga Karume. Yet his net worth is up there. This is the same man who caused another Kenyan to lose his life only because that Kenyan knew about certain indiscretions of his with some women (the whole sickening story is in my book, Dark secrets of the Kenyan presidency. Get details now on how to receive the book).

Moi is not the kind of person I would buy a used blender from. Let alone a used car. He is the kind of person that would cause me to stop and think very hard if I discovered that we were in agreement over something. Let alone a constitution.

Now the self-proclaimed professor of politics has a few nasty surprises for Kenyans. Just like he warned us that multi-partyism would “burn us” and then proceeded to facilitate the same. He has been busy warning us that the new constitution is NOT good for Kenya and is about to do organize something so major that we will have no option but to agree with him.

I love this great piece I read in Bunge La Mwananchi: The 15 reasons why the ‘NO” Campaign is against the Proposed Constitution

During Moi's days, there were dictators in Indonesia (remember East Timor massacres?), Zaire, Chile (remember the dissapearances?), Spain (remember the deal to remain silent about General Franco's crimes?) S. Korea , Brazil where they used to dump pregnant women into the ocean from the planes etc.

If this is the case, instead of seeing Moi as evil, the question ought to be why did we have dictators all over 3rd world? Was it by accident or by design?

We give thee a hint to you and the readers who can follow up if they are interested in TRUTH and not mere gossips and misinformation by the mainstream media.

In 1975, the Trilateral Commission, representing the more liberal elements of ruling groups in the industrial democracies, published a study entitled The CRISIS OF DEMOCRACY which interprets public participation in decision-making as a threat to democracy, one that must be contained if elite domination is to persist unhindered by popular demand.

The population must be reduced to apathy and conformism if "democracy" as interpreted by this liberal contingent, is to be kept workable and allowed to survive. Therein, you see the genesis of our troubles.

Did he do a Bill Gates?

    xxxx

Kwani, what did Bill Gates do?

For the first 30 years of internet, it was DESIGNED, DEVELOPED and FUNDED PRIMARILY by the public sector in the USA. Most of the hardware, the software, new ideas and technology etc were developed using tax payer's money. Thereafter, it was handed over to people like Bill Gates.

So, Bill Gates is an epitome of monopoly capitalim which works like this. SOCIALISE the costs, PRIVATISE the profit.

    xxxx

Or perhaps a Warren Buffet? Kwani, what does he do?

"Mr Buffett resisted giving evidence after a series of back-and-forth communications with the commission, telling friends he had no unique insights that would make it a valuable exercise. In the end, he had to be subpoenaed by the commission's lawyers, and will appear at a special New York hearing to examine the "credibility of credit ratings, the investment decisions made based on those ratings, and the financial crisis".

In 2009, Buffet made £ 4 billion by "investing" in the Goldman Sachs. Where did the Goldman Sach's profit come from? The public. Did he know this when he invested? Off course.

    xxx

Just like he warned us that multi-partyism would “burn us” and then proceeded to facilitate the same.

    xxx

Without defending Moi, is this multi - partyism not just Hegelian Dialectics at work? What is the point of changing faces if the policies remain the same? We answer, to relieve the build up tensions to prevent chaos.

  2. I would really not blame Arap Moi but those foolish Kenyans who throng in his rallies to listen to his "wisdom" transmitted through his annoying and croaking voice. I would even blame the current president even more for all the comfy gifts he has given Moi including a very handsome pension, military guards, posh home and peace of mind. If there was any justice in Kenya, the self proclaimed professa wa politics would be rotting behind bars in Kamiti while being bullied and molested by hardcore Mungiki thugs doing life in the said jail. Moi is out all guns blazing purely to salvage his ill gotten wealth which has made him one of the richest men in Africa. I hope he fails miserably for in his reign of dictatorship, terror and anarchy he denied Kenyans a new constitution and those who refused to listen like Njoya were met with an awesome iron fist. Moi gets his courage and guts to say no from Kibaki's half hearted support for the draft. It's about time old Kibaki fired a warning shot to Moi and co by kicking out Kiplagat from TJRC and replacing him with a real patriot who will trace Moi's hidden loot and help seize it. Giving full and total support for the draft will aslo help!

It may interest you know that long before I had any interest in politics or even understood what the hell was going on, I suffered in the hands of Moi's secret police. For nothing!! I was innocent. But despite the terror and everything I was lucky. Others were not so lucky, they died, Mwarangethe. THEY DIED!!! And others like an old photographer friend called Wallace Gichere were crippled for life.

    xxx

Chris, you miss my whole point. It is not we are not aware of what happened wakati wa Nyayo. For instance, the act of throwing Gichere out of the house is well known fact.

The issue is this. Moi was just obeying orders. Further more, and this is the CRUCIAL POINT, if we want to eradicate these kind of things, we must appreciate why they happen and who gives such orders.

If you doubt. Moi left in 2002. But, how many innocent Kenyans have died wakati wa Kibaki?

You have told us in this blog that, between 2007 - 2007, more than 5000 young Kenyans perished. Is that correct Chris?

If it is so, the question is, if it was Moi who was evil up to 2002, why do we have wailing widows and fatherless children in Kenya after Moi left? That is the question the readers should think about. For it is only when we answer this question, we shall be free.

    Leo umekuja sana.

It may interest you to know that long before I had any interest in politics or even understood what the hell was going on, I suffered greatly in the hands of Moi's secret police. And for nothing!!

I was totally innocent. But despite the terror and everything I was amongst the very lucky few. Others were not so lucky, and some even died, Mwarang'ethe. THEY DIED!!! Can you imagine ending up dead and you are totally innocent?

And others like an old photographer friend of mine called Wallace Gichere were crippled for life.

So you will understand why I get emotional when you make such careless sweeping statements about a subject you seem to know absolutely nothing about.

I want you to know that I have written and deleted this last paragraph at least twice and so I'd better stop and cool down first before I write anything I will regreat.

P.S. At least you can thank Moi for this blog. Had it not been for that harrowing experience I don't think I would ever have gotten involved in Kumekucha.

    But I can read English and these words of yours are clear in their meaning;

Ati Moi evil man? Hakuna kitu kama hiyo Chris.

That same Moi whom you defend by saying that people have also died under Kibaki would have been forgiven by Kenyans like Kenyatta was. But he has chosen to rub our faces in the dirt by going out of his way to deny us that same new constitution he killed so many Kenyans so that we never get it.

That is what is so evil with Mzee Moi.

    Mwarangethe,

What does Bill Gates have to do with the Internet?

Bill Gates made his money from interpreters ( BASIC), operating systems (DOS, Windows) and office automation products (Word, Excel etc). His first major break came after customizing 86 Dos for IBM after obtaining it from Seattle Computer Products.

In fact, his company Microsoft was a late comer on the Internet scene, and only managed to get a foothold by using monopolistic tendencies such as bundling its Internet explorer with its windows operating system. It terms of earnings from the Internet, it cannot be compared the likes of Google.

Therefore, whereas Microsoft's business practices are questionable, one cannot accuse it of overly profiting from the Internet.

  8. Chris,

I think you are being paranoid and obsessed with Moi, and you fail to see the bigger picture. Since he left power in 2002 we have heard leaders call others "kabila adui" or "mafi ya kuku" with serious consequences. As Mwarang'ethe says it is the system that produces such leaders that is evil. And we, the gullible Kenyans, have fallen for it!!!

  9. Chris if Kenyans Died under Moi and he is evil.
Kenyans have continued to die under Kibaki.
Kenyans died also under Raila's politics of hatred in 2007/2008.

What Mwarangethe is trying to send through your head is that Kenyans will continue to die as long as our leaders answer to the same master. If you want this to stop, stop blaming the executioner and go to the man who gives the orders and pays the executioner.

Mwarangethe has explained here so many times who that man is. Unfortunately, many like Chris have their noses buried in gossip to notice.

We seek not to defend Moi in any way. The question we are asking and you keep evading is this.

Why did Kenyans die during Kenyatta's time? Why did this continue under Moi? And, why has it continued under Kibaki? And, will these killings continue after Kibaki? Yes.

If this is the situation, can it be that, all these men and those to come are all pure evil and heartless men?

We have also asked, why did Brazilian rulers throw pregnant women into the sea? Why did Pol Pot kill so many? Why did Suharto kill so many? Why did S. Korean dictators kills so many Koreans? Why did Franco kill so many in Spain and why were these crimes swept under the carpet?

In simple words. We personalise universal problems, and therein, we are caught up in a vicious circle whereby, we are unable to escape tyranny.

Let us give an example. In a city of 200, 000, if one man is unemployed, that is his personal problem. For his relief, we look to the CHARACTER of the man, his skills and his immediate opportunities.

However, in a nation of 40 million and 15 million are unemployed, this is not an issue of men's character. It is the very STRUCTURE of opportunity has collapsed. In such a case, the very structure of that society must be the focus and not the unemployed.

The difference between us is that you are a theorist with big grand ideas and even grander theories. I am simple, practical and with the peasants you mention so carelessly in your long marathon discourses.

Well, the truth is that, this world is structured and led by the nose by men of big ideas and grand theories. Unfortunately, they are power hungry men who do not value human blood.

If we are to solve the crisis in our hands, we must not only be practical, but, fully understand what you call marathon discourses for we know that, in the beginning, there was the WORD.

The physical world we see (killings, poverty) are only the fruits of what you marathon discourses/some philosophical ideas.

Seen this way, the problem is the philosophical/structural foundations of modern state and not the men who run these states.

Please shed more light. Who is the master here? I thought the former president with all the powers he had, was capabable of stopping some of the atrocities chris mentioned. We should learn to take responsibility for our sins. The executioner and the man who gives orders are both guilty; unless the executioner is a robot devoid of a conscience.

Well, political colonies may have been "freed," but, NEW and LESS VISIBLE forms of colonialism were installed.

You will never learn this from your school, mainstream media and your government. If you want to understand how this system works, you have to read for yourself.

You may start with the Savings & Loans crisis of 1980's in the USA. From such studies, you will understand how people like Buffet and Gates really make money.

Another way is to read more on Iranian Contra Affair. For a primer, see this documentary which includes Congress investigations on the affair.

  25. Arap Moi is synonymous with EVIL as in political evil, ethnic evil, economic evil and social evil.

History and his legacy speaks volumes of why he is infamously known as the "Professor of Evil Politics" or "Politics of Evil."

Oh, how I wish that nature had done to him what it has already done to Mobutu Sese Seko, Idi Amin Dada, Said Barre, Milton Obote, Joseph Savimbi et al.

All things considered, Kenya could now be twenty or thirty years ahead from where it's
at the moment had the professor of backward nyayo politics not suffocated the whole nation with his evil rungu ya nyayo (dark magic wand).

The nation is still reaping the political, economic and ethnic evils that were propagated by Moi dating back to the early 1980s.

So far the old man should learn to 'just shut the _uck up' and find ways to enjoy enjoy the last years of his life paying more grandfatherly attention to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Moi was as evil as it gets in the infamous arena of Africa's dictatorial form of government and devisive ethnic politics.

Mwarangethe has a point. He might not have all the facts straight but he is in the right direction.

Guys do your research and take abig picture view! You will be shocked bythe truth. You will be shocked by the lies that have been fed to you!

Have you ever seen Kenya's history written anywhere? I guarantee you 99% Will be British version of Kenya's history - with 100% PROPAGANDA and RACISM that even we have come to accept as FACT because we were brainwashed IN SCHOOLS from a young age.

Why do we need to know the first EUROPEAN TO see Mount Kenya? Do Europeans study about the first African to go to Europe?

why do you believe that your ancestors MIGRATED to where they live now? Yet Kenya is known as the location of the EARLIEST HUMAN BEINGS.

The Mzungu told you that it is NOT YOUR LAND BECAUSE YOU MIGRATED - and YOU BELIEVED????

MIGRATION is an IMPERIALIST THEORY used to JUSTIFY GRABBING AND EXPLOITING AFRICAN LAND and RESOURCES. If you Migrated, then the land is not yours!

As long as AFRICANS accept RACIST THEORIES, we remain Vulnerable to a SECOND IMPERIALIST INVASION which will be more deadly than the first.

Ask American Indians what happened to them. They still live in "reserves". Ask Aborigines (who still live in "reserves"). ENTIRE CULTURES IN A CONTINENT COMPLETELY DECIMATED AND OVERRULED BY IMPERIALISTS.

    Tribalism:
COLONIALISTS IMPORTED Africans from OTHER COUNTRIES to terrorize villages of those who resisted. They then used PROPAGANDA to make it look like KENYAN Tribes were fighting within and against each other. FOR EXAMPLE "FALSE FLAG OPERATIONS" and So Called "PSEUDO GANGS" where IMPORTED FOREIGN LOYALISTS massacred Kikuyus - and the same was blamed on MAU MAU.

    Divide and Conquer.

This might shock you but when Kenya attained "independence", the truth of the matter is that NOTHING CHANGED. The cunning colonialists simply devised a scheme in which they could maintain their "interests" in Kenya (and Africa) WITHOUT BEING TARGETS FOR VIOLENCE.

A new Elite clique of colonial loyalist Africans was created by the outgoing colonial gov.

Kenyatta, our "founding father" was a COLONIAL MOLE. What did he do for Mau Mau? Why did he keep LOYALISTS in government? Why did he maintain and perpoetuate ECONOMIC COLONIALISM?

OGINGA ODINGA SAW IT:- "NOT YET UHURU".

  28. Second Liberation6/3/10, 12:49 AM

    (continued...)

CAPITALISM is the heart of NEO COLONIALISM. Enforced by Dirty wars, Espionage, MERCENARIES and SECRET ARMIES.

Why do we have THOUSANDS of BRITISH TROOPS in kenya since independence?

Why do COLONIALISTS still own 80% of KENYAS (and AFRICA's) resources?

Have you wondered WHY AFRICA IS POOR? Step back from the details and see the bigger picture and you will understand.

Why do we have COUPS and INSTABILITY predominantly in "ex-colonial" territories? Whenever any leader refused to towe the line, MERCENARIES were brought in to EJECT him.

After the 1982 Coup Attempt, MOI DID NOT HAVE THE GUTS TO RESIST NEO COLONIALISTS. He remained a BRITISH PUPPET.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. We must have justice in Kenya. Stolen resources must be returned to Africans. We must go back to 1800s and trace ownership of each and every resource. SETTLERS (i.e. colonial thieves) must REFUND ALL PROFITS from stolen resources, They must PAY FOR STOLEN resources (with compounded interest) they must compensate Africans for the TRAUMA and ECONOMIC RETROGRESSION effect of Colonial Thuggery from the 1800s TILL NOW.

Assume 1 Family of 2 parents and 5 children is condemned to ignorance (denied education), poverty (all land and resources grabbed) and mental trauma (Colonial Terrorism)... In 30 years, you will have 5 families of 20 children. In 60 years, you have 20 Families of 100 Chilren condemned to POVERTY. From 1800 - 2000 each person impacted by colonialism will have more than 1,000 descendants. That is why MILLIONS ARE POOR.

Can't you see it my dear people? POVERTY IN AFRICA IS NOT BY ACCIDENT. It is not by choice. It is not of our own making.

POVERTY IN AFRICA IS BY IMPERIAL DESIGN. It is the Modern Form of GENOCIDE.

MILLIONS of Africans have been KILLED by CAPITALISM and IMPERIALISTS than the HOLOCAUST JEWs killed by HITLER. It is the biggest ever act of Murder to be commited by neo-colonialists... and they continue to get away with it.

    Wake up Kenyans!

It is NOT blaming colonialists! it is asking for JUSTICE and AMENDS without which Kenyans will continue to be SHACKLED IN POVERTY AS MODERN DAY SLAVES!

You appreciate what has been and is going. However, your conclusion or the solution to the mess is a non - started. Here is why.

The control of 3rd world nations is primarily via two institutions:

    (a) Monetary system, and
    (b) colonialistic land tenure.

This being the case, to cut the umblical cord, we must completely reform these institutions.

The question is, has the "new constitution" reformed these institutions so as to remove the choking influence of the imperialists? No. If you think otherwise, please show us how.

To the extent we have retained these institutions, how will be free? We shall not be free and to that extent, we reject the so called "new constitution" as a continuation of slavery.

  30. Second Liberation6/4/10, 5:50 AM

Mwarang'ethe, actually, Control of the third world is *primarily* via secret dirty wars (proxy / mercenaries, foreign coordinated tribal clashes etc), Propaganda, Espionage to enforce the existence and protection of DIRTY NEO COLONIAL CORPORATIONS.

These corporations were founded on STOLEN RESOURCES, FORCED LABOR and ATROCITIES against Africans.

The secret foreign operations sabotage all progressive efforts.

At the heart of it is to keep people IGNORANT, focused on Lack of Food, AIDS, Tribal clashes, coups etc., Meantime an entire CONTINENT is being raped by foreigners.

Africa must reclaim its sovereignty and its resources first and foremost. Secret "interests" by colonialists MUST BE RELINQUISHED!

We must shed the colonial virus (including indirect influence) COMPLETELY in order to start true healing. You saw what happened to Mugabe and how even the AU was scared to expose the TRUTH. Who is really in charge?

The first step for Kenya is KATIBA. It is not everything but it is something to start with.

This Katiba is Pro African. Pro Poor and Pro People. The new Katiba regulates the most ruthless aspects of Capitalism. It lays the foundation for major reforms (ACTS of Parliament; delinking our laws from England etc).

In corporations they call it BPR / Restructuring or Transformation. We need Radical change to usher in true healing in Kenya.

  31. Moi may be seriously misguided about his allegiance on this new constitution but I won't go as far as "evil". Moi's era may have been faulty but had people known about PEVs and the fact that nothing did change expect that Kenya is a richer nation(inevitably)...
