Kibaki Calls Obama Bluff, Opens Battle Front

As the DULY elected president of Kenya, Kibaki did what he is constitutionally mandated to do. HE took the oath to protect Kenya’s constitution and her people and he has just done that but reminding Obama of the internationally accepted diplomatic boundaries.

Johnny Carson may claim to know more about Kenya than Kibaki but the later is the PRESIDENT, period. Kibaki cannot just sit on his hands let his lieutenants be bullied by Uncle Sam, never. Moreso when the targets are his right hand men, the people who hold the levers of REAL POWER behind his throne.

Raila lost his patriotic badget when he failed to tongue-lash America on their latest bullying antics of our hard-working, diligent politicians and civil servants. Instead, the PM shamelessly appeared to support REVERSE IMPUNITY from US lording on us. No wonder Mickuki led a walkout on him in one of the Diaspora talks. America is no heaven and we remain an independent state in no need of patronage.

Renneberger no Hempstone
So are we back to the 1990s when the self-styled rogue ambassador Smith Hempstone consorted with dissidents and rilling Moi to the bone? No chance. Make no mistake, Kibaki is no Moi. And who said Kibaki is a coward and spineless? Well, he has drawn the boundary clearly on sand. No pride, no dignity and no shame. The Republican Renneberger may have just handed himself the noose. His misadvising Washington may backfire big time.

Kibaki has made it abundantly clear that we will not take hostages as pretenders of good governance under the excuse of fighting impunity. Kenyans are not complaining about their diligent and HARD WORKING leaders so America must keep their uninvited lectures to themselves.

As for Raila, he has inadvertently set the political bridge ablaze. He has bitten the political hand feeding him. Brace yourself for another round of PNU-ODM bickering and stalemate. And this time PNU can count on Ruto and Bett. NA BADO.

  2. Ask Chris' moles to tell im about the walk-out by John Michuki and Ambassador Ogego during one of Raila's meet-the-diaspora talks. There is this video that shows members of the PNU walking out. Let us have much of it. I should upload it soon....

I love these targeted sanctions and would love the UK, Canada and other countries to follow suit.

    I'm waiting for you Ocampo.

Kibaki's last kicks of a dying horse are beginning to show. Let him keep waiting for a reply from Obama.

Is there anyone who has noticed some history repeating itself right before our eyes?

Walking back, down memory lane in the late 90's, Kenya was at a crossroad. Our big man Moi was fiercely resisting reforms just like Kibaki is taking us in circles today.

While Moi was brutally suppressing any discussion about multipartyism and assassinating suspected saboteurs from within cabinet (Ouko), Kibaki is surreptitiously effecting suppression by other means.

Kibaki is using execution squads, threat squads (Muite) and psychological threats (massive and tribalized AP recruitment).

Washington was notified about Moi's suppression & cunning resistance to reforms in the 90s and Washington has been notified again today, about Kibaki's stunning record on extrajudicial killings, ominous security plans (at the same AP that Waki recommended be merged with regular police) and cunning resistance to reforms. Therein lies Kenya's threat to stability today.

Moi used APs and cops to swoop and arrest people engaged in multiparty talk. Those flushing the two finger sign would be ruthlessly dealt with at Nyayo torture chambers. Today, Muite is being finished and threatened with death for sharing with Prof. Alston damning evidence on still-existent extrajudicial police squad, besides also talking about the other forbidden talk about Kibaki's maid-turned-wife Wambui.

In the 90s, some young turks including Gibson Kamau Kuria, Kiraitu Murungi, James Orengo, Paul Muite and Raila Odinga, backed by a tough civil society, sought America's help in the war against Moi's impunity and resitance to reforms. That time they were all out of government, and no one in Moi's government dared support their cause.

They lobbied hard, through the US Asst. Secretary of State who advised them how to pressurize Moi. (same thing is happening today, this time, people like Orengo and Raila are directly forcing reform from inside government)

The lobby efforts of the 90s were appropriately redirected to the US Congress.

Diaspora based Kenyans (esp. former Washington DC residents like Maina Kiai, Jakoyo Midiwo, John Maina) were instrumental in having Congress set time for a special Congressional hearing over Kenya's perilous anti-democratic situation.

At that Congressional hearing were two sets of Kenyans, each side giving strong testimony to support their case.

On one side were the reformers, led by the brilliant conglomeration of young turks - arguing for sanctions & travel bans (for Moi and his cronies), and suspension of financial aid to Kenya.

On the other side were the anti-reformers led by then Foreign Minister Kalonzo Musyoka. He was accompanied by Embassy staff in DC (Ambassador, Chief Counsular et al.).

  6. CONTINUED BY JOB FROM JUKWAA.. INTERESTING ..
Kalonzo was singing the Nyayo sycophancy song of .....multipartyism will fuel ethnic violence in Kenya....Kenya must remain united under KANU....and such anti-reform and anti-democratic platitudes.

After the Congressional sub-committee on Africa passed a resolution for tough targeted sanctions against Moi's cronies, the Mzee was irked. He was mad. This was the beginning of Moi's end.

Do you see history repeating itself?

Moi was so mad he even punished Kalonzo for not 'fighting hard' for the status quo in Washington - he reshuffled him to a less glamorous Ministry.

Moi had become too bad in America's diplomatic books. He had outlived his usefulness (in Sudan and Somalia) and his hatred by the Kenyan public was beyond America's salvage.

Moi hated the then US Ambassador in Nairobi, Smith Hempstone with passion. Nyayo would publicly rebuke him at state functions, tell him off, warn him against 'patronizing attitude' towards Kenyans.

Does this history of America's patronizing attitude ring another bell?

Hempstone and Washington were a big pain in Moi's behind. It seems today, that Ranneberger & Johnny Carson are also slowly creeping up into someone's behind.

  7. MORE FROM JOBS RENDITION,,,,,

Back to the history lesson - a little earlier, Moi had unsuccesfully sought to meet FACE-TO-FACE (as the Daily Nation is wont to report) with then US President George Herbert Walker Bush.

Moi suddenly realized he was diplomatically isolated by the West in the early 90s. This eventually led to his political demise. Has anyone noticed Kibaki's diplomatic isolation by Britain, the US and other EU countries?

This is why Kibaki didn't bother coming to the UN General Assembly. He already knows he is isolated. Kibaki was hoping to score a political double when he sent Raila there, because his Foreign Ministry had studied both Obama's and Raila's would-be itinerary, and was completely sure Raila would not meet Obama.

To make it even more dramatic and embarassing to the PM they made sure they locked out Raila at the luncheon Obama was to have with African heads of state, through an official 'disinvitation' letter.

That would of course mask Kibaki's own diplomatic isolation, under the strategic thought that it would be breaking news by the Nation reporting about Obama's apparent dissing of Raila.

Didn't the Nation enthusiastically report about Obama not being able to meet Raila despite being with him at the same meeting.

Well the political instincts of Raila, and graceful nature of Obama shattered those plans by Kibaki cronies.

The plan laid out by wakina Ogego, coordinating with the Nation newspaper, to mask Kibaki's isolation by Washington, and instead paint Raila as the one being isolated, backfired badly.

    Isolated people become reckless sometimes.

An isolated Moi would do ridiculous things in an attempt to meet Bush, things which Kibaki would never even think about.

Moi figured out that Bush often attended the annual Washington DC Christian breakfast prayer meeting every February. (Watch out for Kalonzo Musyokas return to this Christian pilgrimage this coming winter, February 2010 searching for Obama. After Kenya's election robbery, then freshly appointed conspirator Veep, Kalonzo Musyoka, quickly trooped to DC in February 2008, as the nation was still burning, hoping to meet face-to-face with former President Bush - and advice him AGAINST POWER SHARING )

    ReplyDelete
  8. CONTINUED CURTSY OF JOB,,,,,

Well, the intrigues of this Christian breakfast meeting can sometimes be really unholy and ungodly.

In 1990, a diplomatically isolated Moi had figured out that since this breakfast prayer meeting was not a state function, diplomatic protocol is often lax, as people, including foreign presidents, often attend in individual capacity.

Moi had plotted with his then Foreign Minister, the late Robert Ouko, and Ambassador in Washington DC, for a 'bump-into-Bush' meeting at the breakfast.

Alongside Ouko and Nicholas Biwott, Moi stromed the breakfast meeting only to be snubbed by President Bush.

There was never going to be a face-to-face meeting for real. Things were even worse than that for Moi. Bush indicated he was willing to meet Ouko rather than talk to Moi.

President Bush implored on Robert Ouko to meet him and the US Secretary of State for a brief private discussion.

Ouko was never to return to Kenya on the same plane with Biwott and Moi. In fact, the then King of impunity Nicholas Biwott referred to Ouko as 'Mr. President'.

We all know what happened to Ouko thereafter.

And Washington officially tightened sanctions against Nairobi. The Nyayo anti-reformers, the Mois and Kalonzos were resoundingly defeated with the help of pressure from America - Kalonzo remembered to jump from the sinking Nyayo ship into the opposition at the last minute.

    I see another parallel.

I also predict that not only is the pressure going to come from Washington, it will also come from several European capitals (like the Hague and London).

The real pressure ain't even started yet. Account freezes and extension of visa bans to families is just beggining.

These impunity Kings are always nervous when you touch their properties and inconvenience their families. Just see how Moi has been running around threatening Kenyans with violence should his Kaptagach Tea farm and factory at Mau be reclaimed.

Somebody like Saitoti literally feeds tens of thousands of Americans with Turkey every thanksgiving day, turkey bred from his farm in Kenya. His contracts and New York bank account must be very important to him - he wouldn't want them touched.

Trageted US sanctions aim at such activities by individuals they target. Some of those in the list have all their kids in American Universities, some even greed card holders.

When bans are extended to families, such kids receive letters from Immigration which really anguish their parents. Many such kids dream about living in America in future. As their parents bilk Kenyan coffers, they only feel secure in safe havens like America.

The parents of such kids are the very people breathing into Kibaki's ears right now, ADVISING him to write back a threat to Obama in kind.

  9. JOBS SAYS IT AS IT IS......

Obama will ignore Kibaki's letter as expected. He will let Kibaki deal with juniors like Johhny Carson and Ranneberger if he so desires.

Like George H Bush ignored Moi, meeting with reform-minded ministers instead, Obama will ignore Kibaki's unusual rant while maintaining diplomatic channels open for communication with reform minded Kenyans in and out of government.

Like George H. Bush and Bill Clinton applied pressure to Moi and cronies, Obama will apply pressure to Kibaki and his anti-reform cronies, whether the status quo choirboy Mutula Kilonzo asks Ranneberger to shut up or not.

If Finance Minister Uhuru can't travel to the World Bank or IMF headquarters in Washington at this time when our budget shortfall is sh 80 billion (before considering the ravage of famine, drought and food shortage), real pressure will be felt in that State House.

I see another parallel regarding the list of 15 and possible Waki list indictees. Expect Ocampo's bombshell soon. These things are often coordinated.

Did anyone see the diplomatic jujitsu Obama played with Gordon Brown and Sarkozy against Iran's nuclear bomb ambition?

Obama's advance diplomatic overtures to Russia and China have ensured the US, Britain, France, China and Russia are on the same page regarding Iran.

To the hardheaded Impunity Kings wont to turning East towards China ...my warning this time...watch out.

The world is seemingly getting united against certain values. Obama has returned the US into UNHRC. Obama is the current chair of the UN Security council.

Human Rights abusers in Kenya currently staffing and arming the AP into a tribal army had better be warned the world is watching as they plot possible genocide and another electoral fraud and coup.

The ICC will soon move into Kenya, and the UN Security Council is also at liberty to refer Kenya to it, even if the Justice Minister refuses to cooperate.

China and Russia will this time not save Kenya, Zimbabwe or any other rogue nations at the UN Security Council table Chaired by Obama.

This is Obama's first diplomatic victory in my view. He will deal with Iran, or any other rogue elements using this important UN tool which George W. Bush lacked.

America's diplomatic clout will increase. If you augment such back-up with AU's special panel on Kenya, led by Kofi Annan, you can bet Kibaki will feel the heat at State House.

  11. jOb CONTINUES...

Expect more heat. Kibaki's writing of this letter shows he is in fact getting nervous already.

His lieutenants are literally shaking like leaves.

Uhuru, Ruto and Michuki must be befuddled with worries as to whether these visa sanctions have anything to do with Waki's envelope.

I can almost guarantee you that the list in the envelope has been shared between ocampo, Kofi Annan, and few global leaders like Obama, Brown, Hillary (& State Dept - Johhny Carson, Ranneberger etc).

If this fiasco was happening during the days of global economic prosperity, when Kenya was recording 8% growth, these politicians would not be scared. But in these harsh times of njaa...watch this space.

When our budget deficit is running close to shs 100 billion, people and pastoral animals dying of famine, when oil-rich-yet-untapped Somalia's client state (of America) is almost being taken over by rebels, Kenya will remain under SHARP scrutiny and focus with need for a responsible government - not a government deeply engaged in corruption and human rights abuses and extrajudicial killings.

Extreme Pressure will be applied to Kibaki, from within and from without, more than was applied to Moi.

Kenya's stability is crucial to Western interests. Kenya's stability is crucial to the survival of close to 40 million of its inhabitants and another 200 million in the horn region.

The West is sure there will be no stability in Kenya unless REFORMS (land, constitutional, judiciary, police, anti-corruption & electoral) which the Kibakis, Kalonzos, Uhurus, Mois, et al., are blocking are EFFECTED.

Just look at the Ringera issue. Kibaki, Kalonzo and Mutula are insisting that Kenya retains the system & relics protecting corruption networks of the past...something that wananchi, parliament and the international community overwhelmingly reject.

  12. BRAVO JOB.. FOR WRITING THIS FANTASTIC PIECE ON JUKWAA...

The days of these anti-reformers are numbered. I saw moi act in panic when he sensed his era was coming to an end.

Kibaki is repeating the same grave mistake Moi made - daring a public battle with global leaders. I'll tell him - bring it on. The people are firmly against the status quo. Foreign allies are too.

Kibaki is surely on the wrong side of history and Kenya's financial, economic and social situation cannot afford isolation or economic sanctions.

Let the sanctions target individuals just as we've been pressurizing the State Department to do. Bravo to Johny Carson.

Famine & drought, severe food shortage, chronic power shortage, environmental degradation, land reforms budget, IDP resettlement budget, Mau restoration budget, declining tea & horticulture exports, & decline in tourism will NEED increased collaboration with the West.

Gordon Brown, Obama, Hillary, Carson and Ranneberger all know this.

In fact the US has already pledged 25 billion shillings to our food kitty. The carrots will come with sticks. Those sticks will not whip the behinds of ordinary Kenyans. They will directly whip the bums of the Kibakis, Michukis, Uhurus, and those other 15 corrupt and human rights abusers.

    Bravo Carson!

  19. The Raila issue of evictions from mau immediately and without compensation is what sealed my vote of no confidence in Raila. I shivered because am an investor and though not very rich, i own a bit of real estate (not stolen or grabbed. My thoughts were that Raila is dangerously setting a bad precedent for investment in Kenya, because in future, if the government (probably his) wants to take away your property and the work of your labour, all it has to do is drum up propaganda to get public support and there goes your investment. Such a bad precedent and thinking for a man who wants to be president.
