Can These Jokers Deliver The Reforms We Need Before Elections?

One of the arguments that people have against Kenyans going back to the polls ASAP is that there is no need for elections without first implementing minimal reforms.

Well said!! Actually that makes a lot of sense. However I have one simple question to ask. Can our current crop of politicians deliver reforms?

I can bet you my lunch today that Raila Odinga, Martha Karua, George Saitoti, Uhuru Kenyatta and every other pretender to the throne wants to be president with the same powers that Mwai Kibaki has today. So in effect what will happen is that they will make all the right noises, huff and puff but no reforms will happen. And you can take that to the bank.

So in effect the best hope (and I emphasize “hope” because it is no guarantee) to get any reforms is to vote in a new team with the reform agenda at the top of their list. Hopefully they will be under more pressure to deliver what the electorate wants than the current crop of politicians.

Probably the best illustration of how reforms will not happen with the current jokers was the appointment yesterday of Mutula Kilonzo to fill in the docket left by Martha Karua. Kenyans have the shortest memories on earth and so may I remind you folks to ask yourselves how Mutula Kilonzo made his money. I can assure you that he did not make it the same way reputable firms like Kaplan and Stratton or Daly Figgis make theirs.

The man shot to the limelight as retired President Moi’s lawyer. But before that Mutula thrived from making a corrupt judicial system even more corrupt (I don’t think I need to say more). And that is the man who has now been tasked with championing reforms. That is a very, very, very funny joke. Only that I am NOT laughing.

So since we are told elections are impossible right now why don’t we sit and wait for reforms before we go to the polls. I suggest that we push back the elections to beyond 2012. Let us give these good people plenty of time to bring us the reforms.

Will the last man leaving Kenya remember to switch off the lights, please!

  2. Spot Chris. Today, you have hit the nail on the head and the story has substance - not the silly pro-Raila/ODM crap you feed us.

You decided to assume Raila and his family and goons were linked to the maize scandal. If Kibaki and his ugly "dear wife" were the ones named in the report, you would not be taking cover to file stories applying pressure on Kibaki to quit.

But Raila's evils are pure holiness to you and your Raila loyalists.

Today's story makes sense. Do not expect any reforms from Kibaki, Raila, Mutula Kilonzo (YOU HAVE HIT NAIL ON HEAD ABOUT THIS GUY)and the other gangs hovering around Kibaki and Raila.

Kibaki duped us he was for reforms. He entered State House and the word reforms only exist in old newspaper cuttings and no longer in Kibaki's mind.

Raila no different. He is greedy for raw and absolute power. That's why he was crying like a toddler about toilets and nusu mkeke and no PC! Cant he first solve the myrid of problems facing his Luo tribe and his Kibera voters before he demands executive toilets! Raila would be worse dictator than Moi and Idi Amin if he rose to power.

Game plan to rock out Raila in Kenya's presidency for good is Kalonzo (President), Ruto (vp) and Uhuru Kenyatta (PM) under the Bomas draft. Can Raila defeat the trio? He wont even come close to the votes he marshalled in 2007 - though both him and Kibaki stole votes.

  3. Chris:

Please don't be so pessimistic! While a new constitution may be out of reach, there will be some minimum reforms to even the playing field a little bit.

Regarding Mutula's money, he made it the same way Raila (aka Molasses), ODM messiah, made his money by "cooperating" with Moi. And his reform credentials, I hope you remember Mutula was a hero of the Orange side of the 2005 referendum. The Orange crowd would ululate every time Mutula would stand up to tear down the legal pillars of the Wako draft. It used to be a show to behold. What has changed, Chris, for Mutula to be a joker now??

For whatever worth it is, my advice is this: If you are waiting for a revolution in Kenya, don't hold your breath; you saw how half-hearted the Labour Day Uhuru Park mobs were even after being hired to throw the stones. Kenya's change will be evolutionary not revolutionary. So invest your emotions, intellect and treasure accordingly.

  4. Chris,

You’re really beginning (continuing?) to confuse me. First, you write a couple of posts telling us to prepare for elections and that PNU / ODM are currently strategizing.

Now, you start blabbering about “we” being told that elections are impossible before 2012. Who in the heck gave you this information now and did you publish it?

Think I need a nice cold Tusker right now....

    Chris aka Chris,
anything is possible-that's why Kenya is in the mess we're in simply because it was possible

Reforms are possible but not because of a person or people but in the noise voters make-i think the days of so called peaceful demonstrations and sex boycotts are here to stay because ours is a country where the ballot is not respected so what team is this you want us to vote in that will reform?

the sad thing is that come 2012 when the next elections are held the 12th parliament will consist of more than a smattering of ODM and PNU members-that's Kenyans for you.

oh, and I have switched the lights off for you. please go back to bed

  7. Now the legal aspects of the constitutional reforms are in the hands of Akamba: Kilonzo Mutula - Justice Ministry and Nzamba Kitonga - Chair of the committe of eminent constitutional lawyers harmonising the drafts. Will they deliver? Your guess is as good as mine!!

  8. Let us go in 2012 for Kalonzo or Mudavandi. Both are cool-headed.

  9. Kumekucha's silence on Raila's families alleged involvement in the maize scam is deafening! Imagine if it was a PNU minister, there would be at least 4 posts on it by now. ODM are such hypocrites always seeing the log in others eyes thats why non-ODMers cant take you seriously because you're just a bunch of hypocrites and pretenders. Why is there no outrage from ODM supporters, why are they so silent on Raila? That kind of sycophancy is dangerous.

  10. Chris,

Short but sweet and I like it. There is no way in hell any of these 'leaders' of ours will have a road to Damascus moment... Mutula Kilonzo leading reforms??? I know that it takes a thief to know one but this appointment just takes the life our of anyone who has been fighting and/or hoping for reforms any time soon.

  11. Chris, you got it absulutely right:

How did Mutula Kilonzo "make" his money? I can assure you that he did not make it the same way reputable firms like Kaplan and Stratton or Daly Figgis make theirs. The guy is a THIEF and a protector of THIEVES.

Mutula Kilonzo shot to the limelight as retired President Daniel "Kleptocrat" arap Moi’s lawyer. But before that Mutula thrived from making a corrupt judicial system even more corrupt.

  14. Kilonzo I dont know, we will have to see, but I think he wont rock the boat, and wont move it either so things will remain the same. I would like to be proven wrong.

As for reforms, I always maintain that Kenyans are super impatient, and super ignorant about reforms (not their fault). At the end of the day, everyone knew that a bloated cabinet would lead to stagnation in reforms. -1+1=0 so thats what has happened.

They wont deliver reforms substantial enough to change things remarkably. But, they can deliver reform to transition us to a place where we can elect a better bunch of people. Ultimately, the driver of this train is us, our mentality, understanding and ambition to change things.

The unfortunate thing is that we as Kenyans are good at expecting change, but wont start changing ourselves. Those women denying sex, have in an interesting way opened debate about the importance of discussions and liasons. We dont have strong societal ties in Kenya, that is why we rarely have consensus, it is only when we are told to have it that we do.

So if we want reform before the elections, we need to be realistic, patient, open to new views and new dialogues, and be prepared to sacrifice some of our strong views to the possibility of new change.

  15. Mutula Kilonzo as Minister of Justice is like putting a HYENA to be in charge of SHEEP - It (the hyena Mutula) will kill all the sheep and eat them.

As much as i never liked "Mrs Wamugunda" for the role she played in the STEALING of the elections of December 2007, Mutula will actually be much, much worse than her by far. Mutula will do all within his power to protect the current status quo. He will do all that he can to protect the asses of Daniel "kleptocrat" arap Moi and his kind of thieves and looters

What has the region called Luo nyanza significantly contibuted in this economy?
What economic success story is there in the region?
Any successful luo business empire worth discussing?
Has there been any economic change/ development in the area since independence? Has luo nyanza improved despite having alot of poitical muscle since independence?
Have Luos used their education/ knowledge and transformed it to value by applying it practically on their region?
Would it be fair to demand an equal share in the national cake yet their contribution is minimal?
What have luo leaders done socio-economically since independence to uplift the lives of their people and country?
If you have been sidelined by bad politics, what about the semi-illitrate somalis who started by simple businesses of selling 'marashi' & geans just in the late 90s and are now arguably more economically empowered than luos?
These are vital questions that need answers and Please approach this from Lk 16:10 angle "Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much........."

  17. Chris,

    Habari ya masiku.

Surely, if they cannot agree on forming a local tribunal that killed hundreds, how will they deliver reforms which will ultimately mean an end onto themselves? If they cannot practice straight forward democracy that allows the leader of the majority party in a coalition government to lead government business in parliament, how can they deliver reforms that majority of Kenyans have been dreaming about for the last two decades?

There are no reforms coming before elections and you can take that to the bank. The only shortcut to reforms is to get rid of Kibaki and his deceitful group of cabinet ministers.

Looking at the latest appointments, Moi must be laughing his head off enjoying his favourite boiled maize and sour porridge as his carefully planned chess game falls into place...Sample this; KANU hawks are in full control of the key ministries of Justice & Const. Affairs, Finance, Defence, Internal Security and Home Affairs. The only missing link is that the jogoo party is not in power. But really, what the hell, his disciples are fully in charge!!

Fact of the matter is that the current Kibaki/PNU circus is in reality KANU by another name.

Kibaki, Kalonzo, Uhuru, Mutula are all KANU creatures and however much they try to bleach themselves, we in ODM know them inside out! They owe their very existence to Moi and Moi's tentacles have got them in a very tight grip right up to the businesses they purport to run.

FRAUD: Mutula himself has NEVER earned a salary as an MP because his entire emoluments are committed to paying outstanding KRA tax demands running into billions of shillings, accumulated during the Moi dictatorship. Mutula is now on his ninth year as an MP but he has never earned a salary, but still remains one of the richest individuals in the 9th and 10th parliament. This is a man who should be in KAMITI or MANYANI for evading tax but Kibaki wants him to deliver a new constitution. Ppppuleeaase!!!

LAND: How do you expect the biggest owners of grabbed land, including MAU forest, preside of fair LAND REFORMS aimed at resettling squatters who live like refugees in their own country?

ASSASSINATIONS & EXTRA JUDICIAL KILLINGS:Similarly, it is dishonest to expect the same people who organised the killings of Mboya, JM, Pinto, Mbai; and also organised the most brutal killings of innocent and unarmed civilians by police squads to accept judicial and police reforms, because it would be another way of asking them to arrest themselves.

Mutula's job is to protect and ensure that even if a new constitution is forwarded to the referendum, it will still protect the imperial presidency. In other words, no devolution (aka ugatuzi)will see light of day. You will recall UGATUZI was the rallying call of the winners of the last general elections who were later declared the losers in the most bizzare circumstances.

But this time, not even Moi will protect them. This time, it will surprise even you Bwana Kumekucha.

    Have a nice day.

  18. KK, some humor now, but true story

A few days ago, Prime Minister Mori was given some Basic English conversation training before he visits Washington and meets president Barack Obama...

The instructor told the Prime Minister, when you shake hands with President Obama, please say 'how r u'.
Then Mr. Obama should say, 'I am fine, and you?' Now, you should say 'me too'. Afterwards we, translators, will do the work for you.'
It looks quite simple, but the truth is...
When Mori met Obama , he mistakenly said 'who r u?' (Instead of 'How r u?'.)
Mr. Obama was a bit shocked but still managed to react with his usual humor:
    'Well, I'm Michelle's husband, ha-ha....'
Then Mori replied 'me too, ha-ha.. .'.

Then there was a long silence in the meeting room
    :)

  22. FOR ALL THOSE STILL BASKING IN THE LIE THAT THEY ARE HARDWORKING, ENTREPRISING and INDUSTRIOUS, like Anon 4:14 AM, HERE'S SOME FOOD FOR THOUGHTAt the foundation, most, if not all, of the so called Kikuyu "business tycoons" have "made it" through the same way that Mwai "pumbavu" Kibaki "made" it back to the presidency during the elections of Dec '07: THEFT. Not the so called fictitious "business acumen." Just straight forward THEFT. With fraud, conning and deception being the major "ingredients" of their "business strategy."

This applies from the wazee's like the late Jomo Kenyatta right on down to the present young ones. You doubt me? Look at the case of the MP of Kamukunji, Simon Mbugua, this guy is a fraudster, conman and thief. There are many victims of his fraudulent ways, now, surprisingly, most of the victims are his own tribesmen and women. This thing of believing blindly in your own tribesmen and women is NONSENSE!

Another example: those firms of stock brokers that have gone under recently but not before STEALING from their clients. Who owned them? Mt Kenya thieves. Phew!! Talk about being hardworking, industrious and enterprising!?!?

Apart from the Mungiki menace, stealing, cheating and looting, what is the contribution of Kikuyu culture and customs to the political, social and economic development and advancement of Kenya? NOTHING. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!

These are vital issues and questions that you need to ponder over.

Lets approach this from the Luke 16:10 angle "Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much........."

You guys have not only been trusted with little but with much since Kenya became independent in 1963. And guess what happens repeatedly? You STEAL and destoy what was a good thing. You failed. Mwai "Pumbavu" Kibaki was the minister of finance during all the the 1970's and the early 1980's.

This is one of the major reasons why the south east asian tigers - the Koreas, Singapores, Taiwans and Malaysias, who were behind us economy wise are now miles and miles ahead of us while we remain wallowing in 3rd world status.

And don't blame Daniel "Kleptocrat" arap Moi, he was just following Kenyatta's footsteps - Nyayo's of STEALING and LOOTING with wild abandon.

Mwai "pumbavu" was elected with an overwhelming majority in 2002 but betrayed Kenya and continued with the Myayo's of Kenyatta and Moi, He actually out performed them, He went further and STOLE the elections of Dec 2007 in broad dsylight.

Recently I've been wondering if Kumekucha is like our media which give reports of happenings in politics and give opinions, which in most cases is about attacking leaders and not providing a solution to the problems we face. Or attacking leaders is the first step towards bringing a solution. Kumekucha needs to tell me.

I can bet that most of us know that there is a problem such that Kumekucha doesn't need to point out this problem to us but needs to open a forum that encourages solution to these problems. One solution is that we don't support current leadership and we want new ones, then what next? I think that's where we should head instead of incessantly complaining about current leadership. I don't think our complains will reach their stubborn heart.

So can Kumekucha be in the frontline to spearhead our quest to search for a solution?

  34. No end to deadlock on Kenya Parliament leader

    By BERNARD NAMUNANE and KENNETH
    OGOSIAPosted Tuesday, May 5 2009 at 20:56

Kenya President Kibaki and Prime Minister Raila Odinga have yet to resolve a major row over the stewardship of government business in Parliament, which threatened to paralyse the national reform agenda.

A day after the ice-breaking meeting of the two principals on Monday, the ODM leadership accused PNU of snubbing all their efforts to meet and agree on a structure of managing the coalition in and out of Parliament.

ODM joint secretary to the permanent Grand Coalition Government management committee, Mr Miguna Miguna, told the Nation that he had written to, among others, the Head of Public Service Francis Muthaura to help fast-track the facilitation of a joint secretariat but that he has not received any replies.
“Even Mr Odinga has written letters calling for the permanent committee meeting to resolve the stalemate, but the PNU side are adamant and have no courtesy of replying the letters. Our counterparts are not interested in the reforms and smooth running of the coalition government,” Mr Miguna said.

He said that even the appointment of Mbooni MP Mutula Kilonzo as minister for Justice and Constitutional Affairs against the advise of Mr Odinga showed that President Kibaki was not treating his counterpart with respect.

“When consulted, Mr Odinga told him that the slot left vacant by the resignation of Gichugu MP Martha Karua was a PNU position and whoever was to be appointed ought to be reform-oriented, but to our surprise the appointment was fixed at the same time with a swearing in ceremony,” he added.

    Symbolic position

As regards the post of the Leader of Government Business, the PNU side insists they must take it and make Mr Odinga chairman of House Business Committee, the official said.

“The leader of Government Business is a symbolic position that makes the two principals to be seen to be sharing power and Mr Odinga cannot work under Mr Musyoka as a mere chairman of HBC,” he added.

Mr Miguna said they were more than willing to meet and set structures of managing the coalition government, but even the funds to set up a secretariat are not being released. He added that proposals forwarded to the PNU side for comments had not been acted upon.

“I can assure you that our counterparts are not interested in reforms and there will be none if such a mentality continues. Our letters are not being replied to, all dates we proposed for the meeting were not responded to and our suggestion that they come back to us when they are ready have not yielded any fruit,” Mr Miguna added.

Sources revealed on Tuesday that President Kibaki proposed that the two key slots in Parliament be held by different leaders, one from the PNU coalition and the other from ODM.

However, it was said that Mr Odinga rejected the President’s proposal that would have seen Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka continue as the Leader of Government Business.

These were among the details of a brief session of consultation at Harambee House on Monday between the President and the PM before they headed to Kona Baridi in Ngong to launch a tree-planting drive.

Sources familiar with the proceedings said that Mr Odinga was opposed to the proposal to have Mr Musyoka as the Leader of Government Business, insisting that it was his preserve because as the PM, he was accountable to Parliament for all government affairs and operations.

The Presidential Press Services (PPS), in a statement after the meeting, only indicated that President Kibaki and Mr Odinga had began consultations on the controversial issue of the LGB and HBC.

The tussle over who should hold the two positions paralysed House business for the first week since Parliament was reopened three weeks ago until Speaker Kenneth Marende ruled last week that he would chair the HBC on a temporary basis as the two sides sought to strike a deal.

The VP has been holding the two positions since the formation of the Grand Coalition Government last year.

  36. FINANCING THE SNAP ELECTIONS?

    Did this man lie?

    By Standard Team

Could Finance Minister Uhuru Kenyatta have duped MPs into passing an extra Sh9 billion in the Supplementary Budget presented to Parliament last week?

This was the shocking question confronting Parliament yesterday, prompting the Speaker to order for a ministerial statement on Wednesday.

It all began when Imenti Central MP Gitobu Imanyara rose during Question Time to demand a ministerial statement, claiming the Finance minister had misled MPs to believe he would need only Sh22 billion, but had used their approval to withdraw Sh31 billion. Imanyara, who tabled figures to back up his allegations, claimed the amount could be funneled into questionable contract payments such as Anglo Leasing and the Ken-Ren projects, or a secret kitty.

The Standard last night was unable to reach Uhuru nor any of the Treasury officials for independent comment.

The Imenti Central MP said the figures presented by Uhuru, also a Deputy Prime Minister, when requesting the estimated Sh26 billion Supplementary Budget for eight ministries and the Judiciary for the remainder of the 2008/2009 financial year, are manifestly different and higher than those he actually intended to withdraw from the public coffers.

Imanyara suggested that Treasury officials could have conspired to falsify the figures "to steal Government money to secretly pay (pending bills) such as Anglo Leasing and Ken-Ren".

"If these figures are falsified, we need to be told," charged the MP.

Wondering who was responsible for the apparent contradictions, the MP asked whether Uhuru was aware that he tabled falsified documents in the House.

The figures tabled by the MP showed that the Office of the Vice-President and Ministry of Home Affairs had been allocated Sh374 million for personal allowances in Uhuru’s Supplementary Budget, yet Parliament actually approved just Sh62 million.

According to Imanyara’s figures, the minister had given Sh593 million to the Agriculture ministry when Parliament had voted just Sh478 million.

    parliament approval

And in the Medical Services ministry, the minister had allocated Sh127 million, yet the House had approved Sh58 million. A similar case obtained for the Ministry of Public Works with Sh121 million against parliamentary approval of just Sh12 million.

For the Judiciary, according to Imanyara, it had been allocated Sh288 million yet Parliament had approved Sh227 million.

Imanyara’s figures indicated the Government had allocated Sh8 billion more for the Ministry of Education — Parliament approved Sh21 billion but figures showed a whopping Sh29 billion for the sector.

The Finance Minister, according to Imanyara, also published figures suggesting that Parliament approved Sh63 million for personal allowances in the Immigration ministry, yet in actual fact the House approved only Sh33 million. In the Ministry of Youth Affairs, there was a figure of Sh52 million, yet Parliament’s records showed an approval for only Sh2.6 million.

Finally, Parliament approved Sh510 million for the Ministry of Science and Technology, but the documents showed that a higher figure of Sh603 million from the Treasury.

    Additional funds

Separately, corruption watchdog Mars Group’s analysis of the Supplementary Budget and comparison of figures within the Approved National Budget showed systematic differences that may have caused Parliament to vote for additional funds that were not necessary.

It showed that there were more than 200 such budget line items across 35 ministries, and that the total figure in dispute was just over Sh9.6 billion that was removed from last year’s Approved Estimates for unknown reasons.

Mars said the effect was an unexplained Sh36.3 billion discrepancy and actual loss of Sh9.6 billion plus "the unjustifiable request and approval of Sh26.6 billion on 200 budget line items.

"The business of tax money is serious. The report made to Parliament through the Supplementary Estimates is inaccurate. It is criminal to mislead Parliament that the figures in the Supplementary Budget are the same as the approved estimates," said Mars Group, whose chief executive is Mwalimu Mati.

The group posed: "Parliament passed the Budget in one afternoon without scrutiny. Can Kenyans claim to have representation in Parliament?"

"The Kenyan citizen will have to ultimately seek accountability from Parliament and the Executive to end corruption and impunity, if Kenya is to survive the problems it has so as to deal with in Agenda 4 of the National Accord," Mars said.

Looting the Budget – Ksh 9.6 Billion Missing, and the fraudulent unjustifiable
approval of an amount of kshs 26.7Billion from the Supplementary estimates of
Recurrent Expenditure of the Government of Kenya for the year 2008/2009

This afternoon Gitobu Imanyara, MP, will request for a statement from the
Minister of Finance regarding glaring discrepancies in the documents presented
to Parliament for approval of the Supplementary Budget last week.

Mars Group Analysis of the Supplementary Budget and comparison of figures
within the Approved National Budget show systematic differences which caused
Parliament to vote additional funds to the Government when additional funds were
not necessary as Parliament had approved the expenditure in June last year.

There are over 200 such budget line items involved across 35 Ministries and the
total figure in dispute is just over Ksh 9.6 billion which was removed from the
    Approved Estimates for unknown reasons.

The following budget line items have
    discrepancies which require explanation:

    - Personal Allowance paid as Part of Salary
    - Training Expenses
    - Hospitality Supplies and Services
    - Domestic Travel and Subsistence and Other Transport Costs
    - Office and General Supplies and Services
    - Research, Feasibility Studies, Project Preparation and Design, Project
    Supervision
    - Purchase of Office Furniture
    - Routine Maintenance
    - Printing, Advertising and Information Supplies and Services
    - Communication, Supplies and Services
    - Utilities Supplies & Services
    - Office and General Supplies and Services
    - Fuel Oil and Lubricants

The effect is an unexplained loss of kshs 36,347,880,495 being the discrepancy
and actual loss of kshs 9.6 Billion plus the fraudulent unjustifiable request
and approval of an amount of kshs 26,670,690,984 on 200 fraud budget line items.
An amount larger than the entire Supplementary Budget.

The business of tax money is serious. The report made to Parliament through the
supplementary estimates is inaccurate. It is criminal to mislead Parliament that
the figures in the supplementary budget are the same as the approved estimates.

Who is responsible? Who at treasury authored the Supplementary Budget? Was the
Minister of Finance Uhuru Kenyatta aware that he tabled falsified documents for
the approval of Parliament? Parliament passed the budget in one afternoon
without scrutiny. Can Kenyans claim to have representation in Parliament?

It is our view that looting the Budget, our tax money by the Executive aided by
the National Assembly demonstrates that impunity in Kenya is now dictatorial and
at an all time high. The Kenyan Citizen will have to ultimately seek
accountability from Parliament and the Executive to end corruption and impunity,
if Kenya is to survive the problems it has so as to deal with Agenda 4 of the
    National Accord.

  58. Anon 9.25 please stop giving us history of a name, and yes i have extensively travelled the region and was there just last week....
Nway, its luo-nyanza in discussion not Nyanza:
    1. All the foodstuff grown in large scale (significance) you are talking about comes from the other parts of nyanza such as Kisii (very hard working people) except sugar, which is partly grown in luo nyanza
    2. The businesses (Fish processing, Agro-based industries, banks) etc etc are, yes, in Luo Nyanza but are owned & run by asians, kiuks & kisiis whom you ungratefully evicted, vandalised & destroyed their businesses.
    3. What Luo nyanza has achieved in 45 years of independence, other places like Nakuru have achieved in under 10 years and thats a fact. Transpoortation hub? this is due to location as a border town
Luo nyanza would have benefitted greatly if their people applied their education to better their lifes and region which is not happening.......

    ReplyDelete
  59. Kenyatta marginalised and ensured that resources meant for development of Nyanza were diverted elsewhere after the fallout with Jaramogi and the famous stoning incident 1968/69 till his death 1978.

Moi courtesy of such like Hezekiah Oyugi, Oloo Aringo and of course proximity to Nandi lands, did much to reconnect the long forgotten links.

The Asian businesses were mostly small scale retail outfits, with the bulk of the Asian operators doing business in Nairobi and later landing large lucrative deals in collusion with looters.

Kibaki of course we know his track record.

Despite all this Nyanza continues to be productive, you deliberately skirt the production of sugar Sony, Muhoroni and others that fell flat due to government bungling.

RIAT was the first and foremost college outperforming any of the Polytechnics but this too was torpedoed. All through history we will find many enterprises and industries being targetted and destroyed, including the Molasses factory.

But we are now rising from the ashes, our sons and daughters are among the most highly educated and gifted. A few have taken the way of the quick buck, but many stand firm, strong and tall in belief of good leadership and work ethic, these efforts are already bearing fruit. And luckily we do not have to get your approval to advance ourselves. And we also do not have to steal from public coffers either nor impose illegal extortionist militia nor hack our brothers and sisters.

We use what you obviously lack

Luos are generally a lazy lot. They merely study for prestige not to appy themselves to real life solutions that will improve their area which is still ancient

Then why can't we start with ourselves by en ding the tribal bigotry now ,often we are the wheeler delears of the plague in our midst; the problem begins with us when every post is viewed in tribal undertone. We ceaase to look at the context of posts and analyse them objectively but analyse the person behind the story. Much us we blame our politicians, we are accomplish to these atrocities(read the the "the trouble with Nigeria"). If in our midst we have not changed , do we expect anything different? In all fairness , 9 out of ten cases we thrive in tribal vindication hero worshipping our tired leaders. Who amongs us comes us objectively to see the thin lining in Raila's work and commend or criticise positively. Who removes chaff from Kibaki's legacy and gives credit where it is due?. The common denominator is that we are all cheap, idle tribalist hiding behind virtual network writing gibrish/hogwash hero warshiping their 'man'. In most cases wasting precious employers(sorry to the poor employers) resources posting none issues . The trouble with Kenya is that we love consipiracy theory and have high propensity to rumuors, with Chris's etc leading in this. There is hardly any intellectaula insight in what they write.

Media , equally does not escape this wrath as they are the perpaprators of this vice to suit their political masters.

  68. Kumekucha, my feeling is that reforms will happen because Kenya will become unstable otherwise.

It's like Moi stepping away - he didn't necessarily do it for the country - he knew that with ICT revolution, multi-party politics wasn't far behind. What better time to get out than when you are ahead.

Similarity the GC will have to deliver reforms not necessarily because there is the will to so but because the alternative is dire for all sides.

As for the ODM bashers, no matter how much you whine, ODM is simply a reaction to the excesses of KANU/PNU. Actually, neither side is "better". It's the same old crap (to quote Sayra).

Finally, Raila should consider keeping his faith private. Not everyone thinks highly of his pastor.

  70. This guy knows what he is talking about.

In a statement signed by the Executive Director Ndung’u Wainaina the organisation charged that Mr Kilonzo had a “poor historical track record in supporting and agitating for real change.”

Mr Wainaina urged the Minister to take with earnest the process of enacting a Special Tribunal to try those responsible for last year’s election violence.

“The coalition government has shown an appalling lack of leadership in making the case for a Special Tribunal for Kenya. This time round the Minister must ensure that the public is well consulted and that Parliament gets the legislation right and marshall the necessary support inside and outside Parliament, and this must be done soonest,” he said.

A laughably weak defense. Since you're in Boston, go to any school library and read and engage the following literatures and spare us your ignorance:

I dont dispute what you say, but if its really true, tell us what YOU have done for your people to empower them economically. If you think long & hard you will realise you have been squandering your few coins in Boston. Also look around at your friends & relatives and you will see a similar pattern.
But all is not lost, change starts with one step which is admission

  77. I mentioned this earlier, the character bashing will never cease. As for what we have done/doing we need to move on espousing a new era that is flawless(trust me a kenyan will not), rather than espewing dirty and cheap venom.

At times I admire the down trodden folks in the village(vulnerable), who despite adversities and barriers get going and eke a living without bothering about tribes/politics unless incited by us. It is only you and I who thrive on trivialities like how Railas/kibaki missed their pills, sleep rather than the the bigger picture we are facing.
I may be preaching to the converted, but Kenya will never change with the posts flying around, guys "get a life".
In all earnerst edifying opinion the problem is not leadership , but the culture that is entrenched in our midst like a plague that will take centuries to change. We sleep trivialities, we talk petty ,dream witch hunt and act below the belt . In this context how do we expect us to be a performing society when we read , see evil in everything!!!.
As for talking about "poor employers", that was metaphorically speaking and I sympathise with performance issues.

I am a Kikuyu living in Kisumu. I tell you: the place is best to live in. There are many Kikuyus running away from Central because of insecurity and primitive killings. You can not trust your neighbour and the nights.

Kisiis are also rushing to Kisumu. The poverty in Kisii is unbearable. But the worry in Kisii is their brutality and primitiveness with which they kill others.

Most of the poor youth in Kisii are organized like Mungikis in Central. Primitive, Brutal and merciless.

Kisumu is the safest and best place to live in.

Do you people seriously think this is OK?

In my humble opinion I will lobby through google to have some blogs closed. This is possible having consulted with a few legal experts, the prevailing law of where the host server is based takes the moral ground in decision making.

So far we have collected, considerable number of signatures to champion this.

Due to your ignorance, find the Report on Poverty in Kenya

    www.ilri.org/ilripubaware/uploaded%20files/TS_051102_001_TheGreatDivide.pdf

According to the report "Geographic Dimensions of Well -Being in Kenya; Who and Where are the Poor?" – presented by assistant Planning minister Simeon Lesirma "Nyanza, with poverty levels of 65 per cent is the poorest province, followed by North Eastern with 64 per cent"

Now what other indicator do you need? Though poverty is everywhere it is highest in your province. Kasipul Kabondo, Ndhiwa and Rangwe pull the tail in poverty in kenya. How can you explain the fact that Luo Nyanza is poorer than NEP ( Home to the dryest deserts in Kenya? How else can it be that the place where we have the highest number of professors is the poorest yet they have the 'best brains', biggest fresh water lake, numerous rivers, fair rainfall etc? In addition, tell us what the Luos in the diaspora are doing about this fact? You have been going abroad; back & forth as your pple languish in poverty. What are YOU doing?

Ati Luo invest in NAI? Are you mad? Where is that investment? Go and read the reasearch paper in detail prepared by Prof Anyang 'Ngiri' Nyongo and then you will understand scientifically what they looked at. Stop being ignorant, having a couple of grazing cattle and cassava doesnt make you economically empowered. Look at somalis, havent they created more wealth in less than 10 years than Luos have since independence? YES THEY HAVE. Look at the economic hub they have created out of Eastleigh (Mumbai), do you have any idea how much wealth is created by that tiny place? ask CBK. But what have Luos done NOTHING. You are so poor, now you are engaging in homosexual behaviour just to put food on your table, dont you have any pride?
By the way, mungiki behaviour was encouraged/ supported by your APE IN CHIEF whose only reason of supporting them is because the pple being killed are Kikuyus. But this is behaviour expected of an ape who has now baptised himself to wash away the fact that he personally ordered the killing of women & children in a church AMONG OTHERS. His apelets (you) have invested ZERO in kisumu(which is owned 99% by asians, kiuks and kisiis). Despite trying to help you due to your obvious laziness, you went ahead and vomited on our shoes last yaer after feeding you for many years. But that is expected of APES

Ati Govt is no 1 investor. Have you ever asked yourself why Moi even after negative policy for Central kenya such as diverting resources for 25 years and deliberatly trying to destroy our industries that we CAME OUT EVEN BETTER? Its coz of sheer hardwork & determination which you are lacking; But somalis have it since they are now obviously economically better than the apes who have been sitting idle waiting for the Govt to invest
