Shocking Cabinet Re-Shuffle That Never Was

Kumekucha Exclusive

Who really acts as President when President Kibaki is away? The answer will not surprise those in the know but many other Kenyans will be dumbfounded.

Impeccable sources have informed this blogger of a very curious incident that took place recently that is really scary and clearly proves just how incompetent and disorganized the Kibaki administration must be.

On the memorable day that first lady Lucy Kibaki visited Kenyatta National Hospital and made a scathing attack on internal security minister George Saitoti, the president was out of the country in Ethiopia. You will remember that the first lady said that the internal security docket should be headed by a woman and demanded a written explanation from Saitoti about his handling of the ministry.

Be careful because if your hard drive crashes you reduce the chances of successful data recovery by trying to revive the hard drive on your own. It is always a better idea to call in the experts right away.
--------------------------------

What Kenyans do not know is that after that press conference Lucy Kibaki ordered Francis Muthaura to immediately issue a Presidential Press Service (PPS) statement announcing the sacking of Prof george Saitoti and replacing him with Nyeri town MP Esther Murugi Mathenge. Just when the statement was about to be released to the press, hurried calls were made from State House Nairobi to Ethiopia to confirm the contents of the explosive press statement.

This is what really caused Kibaki to hurry back from his Ethiopia engagements. The excuse given was that Emilio hurried back because of the Molo fire tragedy (how funny for those who know the man). In actual fact the man hurried back to veto Lucy’s mini-cabinet re-shuffle and issue a statement emphasizing on the confidence he has in George “Goldenberg” Saitoti.

What a way to run the country!!!

  2. Chriso aka Chris,
i'm more worried that Dr.Kibaki doesn't act as president even when he is around in the country

and when he is out of Kenya i'm sure his handlers dread their turn to keep the short leash on his legal wife

a man who can't run his own family propely can't run a country-set the doomsday clock to 5 minutes to midnight please

  4. If you Raila worshippers think that Kenyans will reward Raila's thuggery with presidency, you are all lost. That is is the day there will be a real civil war. He is a genocidal character. He promised the Meru people tears if he became president. We are not going to wait for him to visit tears upon us. No. We are wiser after PEV violence which he instigated.

Raila needs to retire peacefully and let people of peace and morally uprightness like Kalonzo to take us to the next level.

  5. Some of the contributors in this blog are simply sick. You dream eat and vomit raila. If he is so bad why bother with him just ignore him and live your lives. This blog is about kibakis "leadership" and how far he has taken us to the dogs. Kenya has never been in a pathetic state like today. We have a govt. that is so poorly co ordinated, inept and corrupt to the core.
More still its in constant denial of obvious crimes it administers on its own citizens. Its only in this govt that owning up to any mistake is seen as a weakness. Neither the govt nor the president to this day has apologised to kenyans who have lost their loved ones in the hands of the security forces since 2007 to 2008. Despite the flagrant evidence they continue to deny the obvious. If the students want to demostrate against this thugery only a fool can deny them their right.

  7. Before people condemn police for killing Godwin Ogato (sad as it may be), they should remember he was one of the student robbers who had stolen the dead bodies of King'ara and Oulu and hidden them in the dorms. He died when he was violently stopping the police from recovering the "loot." The student was just another thug following in the footsteps of their messiah.

  8. At the end of the day everyone knows how crazy Lucy can be, its not right for her to do what she did if that were true but surely how is Kibaki supposed to know that she was going to do that? The man is tired of chasing her, and no one complains about her (e.g media and public) so she will keep on being an embarrasment.

  10. A man - Kibaki - who can't run his own family properly has no business running a country. He will fail dismally at it.

Kibaki has repeatedly proved this to be so over and over again, he has been a spectacular FAILURE in managing his family, Lucy in particular - Lucy is the one who "wears" the "testicles" and "trousers" in that family, and an even bigger spectacular failure in running this country of ours.

It is because of Kibaki's poor leadership abilities that Kenya is wobbling around Leadershipless, rudderless, directionless etc.

  11. There is a Japanese proverb that goes like this; if you believe everything that you read, better not read. There has been no better a situation to apply this proverb than in this ‘well connected imaginations’ of one Chris aka Kamuti boy from Kitui. When one sets out to whip people’s emotions and provide disjointed information concocted in ‘doomsday’ like manner one wonders whether the author really has any grey matter left between the ears.

  20. Chris;

This post doesn't add any value to our conversations. There are so many other important topics you could have written about. For example, is it appropriate for our PM to go to Malindi and take seven acres of land set aside for squatters? Or is Kalonzo not a morally superior politician than the others because he has not been known to steal public property or to condone any violence? These are the types of topics that would help us select our leaders as informed citizens.

I feel pity for all these Kenyans above who see issues in Kibaki vs Raila prisms.Between them there's nothing really to choose from. What positive changes to the ordinary Kenyans has Kibaki brought about despite his many years in government? What has Raila achieved for his supporters(not for himself)in all these years he has spent opposing almost everything while hopping from one party to the next? While Kisii Nyanza students are scoring A',Luo Nyanza's are doing D's.Talk about negative struggles.

Luos, you are on your own and soon you will be pushed back to the opposition benches where you excel. Kalenjins said they are ready and able to take the ministries you are holding in case you are tired of serving in a govt where you don't have "conjugal rights."

You seem not to understand how far Kenyans have gone to liberate themselves. RAO spearheaded the second liberation, while Moi, Kibaki, Kalonzo, Uhuru and Ruto were oppressing Kenyans.

It worries me to hear that these characters are nowadays the role models.

  30. you call Luos spectators? I have news for you. Luos will always be superior to kiuks and the painful part is that there is nothing you can do about it. In Luoland, people dont hate kiuks; they simply dont even think about them.If someone says you are kiuk like, it means that you are shady and uncouth. And that will not change even if you steal all Kenyans' money. You stole RAO's presidensy but it did not stop OBAMA another Luo from ascending to the presidency of USA. We are in the process of compiling a book about the Kikuyu inferiority complex. Our wars are fought much more intelligently...

    ReplyDelete
  31. Anon 11:29 AM

It is laughable that one Jaluo think Kiuks inferior to them. Seems to me that even harvard business school trained luo will still feel inferior to a kikuyu hawker. Those brown-teethed, crooked leg guys on Kirinyaga road and githurai roundabout have more business chutzpah in their small finger than loads of Jaluo professors. Talk of inferiority, what parameters?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Anon 11:29 AM,

And why do Luo men rush to have a Kiukyu wife? Even Raila had to persude his son to marry a kikuyu woman to gain some status in the country. If that not enough go to Koinange Street, majority of prostitues are Kuiks BUT the customers are LUO men. How do you explain that?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Instead of telling tall tales about non-existent palace coups, why not write about the story all over Nairobi and Mombasa and other towns, that a motion of no-confidence is about to be tabled against Raila and that Ruto will be appointed in his place as the new PM by parliamentarians from PNU and a section of ODM?
Kalenjins are now saying that ODM is their party and that Luos can leave if they don't like the new arrangement about who is calling the shots.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Ati Kikuyus have inferiorty complex towards Luo? hahaa ha.... thats the biggest joke I have heard in a long time!
Who on earth would feel inferior to HIV carrires, wife inheriting, corpse fucking darkies?!!!

Even Kisii have outsmart them scoring grade AAAAA+!!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I think the story Chris, is, and you have missed it, is that ODM are standing on quicksand. Forget about Lucy asking for Saitoti Kinuthia ole Musengi to be sacked. It cannot happen. She is not the appointing authority and then there is the PNU/Mangu/OP/Masai/Mt Kenya Mafia factor. It cannot happen, even when Kibaki launches a scripted rant at the media.

The biggest political story and the open that drives this blog through its gears is that ODM are in a Catch22 situation and I am sure that. It was coming and only the miracle of Lazarus can mend the current state of affairs.

If it does not, then Mau catchment area will remain in its current poor state, and Raila Odinga will make no decision about its.

As a commentator Chris, you should have told us about the mistakes Raila Odinga has been making since he forged a relationship with Martha Karua, in the hope that he was she was going to shake the Central Kenya electorate down its roots. To be fair, Raila Odinga is the main cause of the civil war in his party at the moment.

The other reason and ODMers will regret is, the so-called being christened as a Kikuyu by trying to claim the Elders status at the expense of the Kalenjin voters. Honestly, what did he think the reaction would have been from Rift Valley at a time when they had all those boys locked up and the voted and fought for him.

The current bad blood in ODM is far away from what many people see and the fact that Karua, who Raila has even given blessings to hold a recruitment drive in Luo Nyanza, is part of the same cancerous boil that he has to cure in the eyes of the Kalenjin community.

That Karua made some incriminating remarks in the company of Raila against her perceived enemies in the coalition must have been misconstrued to mean that he was the force behind Karua and Ikolomani matador Bonny Khalwale. The Kalenjin Rift Valley, the power that put Raila in his top position and helped in the bargain process by burning churches, houses, schools, buses and even farms, simply felt cheated and that is the reason for the upheaval.

Now, the fight continues and the confusing that everybody knows is within the ODM is now being thought of as genius. To be honest, after the formation of the coalition government, ODM seemed to be portraying a better organised outfit than their PNU counterparts in what people saw as discipline.

Please Chris, let us have the correct information on the ground and let the informers give you the best information like Ruto roping the Rift valley Mps, including illiterate ones like Elijah Lagat and Chepkitony (whatever his name is – he shot down Biwott) to make declarations attacking ODM and Raila.

It is fluid at the moment and wait for the reaction on the ground from the Rift Valley this weekend.

    -Derek-

    ReplyDelete
  36. Sorry again. I beg to be corrected. Raila Odinga criticised Dr Alfred Mutua and demanded he be sacked last week?

Since the Rift Valley rupture, ODM hardliners Kajwang, Orengo, Dalmas Otieno and even Raila has not said anything, even castigating Ruto. Mudavadi is quiet, Fred Gumo is quiet, Charity Ngilu is quiet. William Ntimama is quiet and even Prof Nyongo is.

I might not be privy to government secrets and what it entails, but, is the Prime Minister in order to call for a demonstration? I dont know, but, does it amount to hypocrisy when the most powerful politician on land says that 'he has ordered the vice-chancellors not to take action against students rampaging the streets in a situation that might be hijacked by looters and criminals.

IT IS A PITY. Very sorry that it happened.

  37. Kwani aren't people allowed to hold peaceful demonstrations as long as they inform the authorities? You panuists never cease to amaze; the fact that state machinery has been used to clobber peaceful demonstartors in the past doesn't mean that is the way things should be. The protests were largely peaceful, but as expeceted the few bad elements as well as thugs took adavantage as riot policemen sat and watched - eti they were told by their bosses not to intervene. As predicted the panuists are already trying to put blame on Raila. WASHINDWE!!!

Water Cannons, are all that is needed to disperse rowdy crowds. BTW,these could as well have been hungry street people, since when did university students steal food from restaurants and leave all the electronics and other stuff?

The same should be said of a Prime Minsiter travelling to India to view Mahatma Gandhi's shoes and clothes, at a time that the whole country is going through a self-induced hunger attack.

  48. Dear Kumekuchans:

With the blessings of PM Raila Odinga, the UoN students beat up motorists, stole and destroyed public and private property today. In short, they rained mayhem on sections of Nairobi and its citizens in the name of democratic demonstrations. The PM had instructed the police not to act; to let the students "enjoy themselves." Emboldened by the PM tacit support, a large group of violent students spent hours blocking Koinange street drinking stolen alcohol and beating up pedestrians. Other students threatened to bomb the city by igniting oil tankers on Uhuru Highway. It was picture perfect thuggery as witnessed in Kisumu last year imported to our Nairobi streets.

This is totally unacceptable. A minority cannot be allowed to "enjoy themselving" by abridging the rights of the majority. The PM should reconsider his position and allow the police to do their work of maintaining peace unhindered. Our universities should not be turned into training grounds for hooligans and thugs through political interference.

I fear that if the police don't protect the citizens of Nairobi from this politically instigated student mayhem, then Nairobians will resort to forming citizens defense squads.

If the PM and the students don't pull back and tone down their confrontaional approach, a day is coming soon when the PM and the riotous students will be on one side and the 3 million inhabitants of Nairobi on the other side with deadly consequences. I ask the PM and his hooligan students not to invite that day to our peaceful city.

  61. THIS IS ABOUT THE GOONS IN THE COALITION GOVERNMENT USELESS SHAITE!!!

Kenyans got into 2009 an angry lot. Most of the anger was directed to the grand coalition of Kibaki and Raila for failing to rise to the occasion.

Jamhuri day celebrations of December 12, 2008 were supposed to capture the mood of Kenyans against the grand coalition were it not for the media hijacking of the Kenyan people’s cause with the replacement of the original cause for that of media bill revolt.

The people-driven agenda that the Kenyan people wanted their leaders to take note of comprised of unbearable standards of living, escalating food prices, high transport and fuel costs, general hard economic conditions, poor leadership, corruption in government and delayed reform agenda.

During the celebrations, Kibaki and Raila tried unsuccessfully to delay the people-driven agenda by trumpeting the issue of the new constitution that they were to give Kenyans in the new year. Kenyans no longer care much about a new constitution as they care about the pressing needs of survival and probably a brand new leadership devoid of Kibaki and Raila. The Christmas and New Year festivities slowed the people-driven agenda which was gaining momentum at a rapid pace to the relief of Kibaki and Raila.

The people-driven agenda was aptly picked up in 2009 with more corruption scandals in government especially on maize the staple food of many Kenyans, famine and extra-judicial killings by police and was putting Kibaki and Raila on the spot for failed leadership until now. It was becoming embarrassing for the two principals as witnessed when religious leaders blasted the two in a public fund-raising function.

However, in a span of one week, Kenyans attention has been diverted from their people-driven agenda to a Raila Kibaki agenda.

    * Kibaki did his part by focusing Kenyans on who is and who is not his wife on national television. He did injustice to the KCSE results announcement which needed more attention then. The nation needed to debate on failing educational standards but were denied this for the president was in a foul mood.
    * Raila and his ODM brigade did their part by calling on Koffi Annan to help them renegotiate of the National Accord for they need more power and political positions for those who are their wives, sons, daughters, immediate relatives and those who are not their wives. This call came three days after ODM pentagon member, William Ruto had told off Koffi Annan for frequent meddling with Kenya Affairs
    * The rest of the PNU brigade, in characteristic fashion, told their ODM counterparts to take a walk if they are discontent and the to and fro accusations kept Kenyans busy off their problems. Kalonzo and his party ODM-K, also tried to contribute to the diversion of Kenyan minds but their voice was drowned

The extra-judicial killings debate, Mungiki demonstration and the murder of Oscar foundation officials just made sure that Raila and Kibaki can peacefully rest from the wrath of Kenyans; for Kenyans have a short memory for now? Nope Nope NOPe nope..

KENYANS HAVE LONG MEMORIES AND THAT IS WHY THEY MANAGED TO VOTE OUT MOI... BUT THIS TIME WITH MURDERERS IN THE COALITION KENYANS MUST FIGHT HARD EVEN IF IT MEANS SPILLING MORE BLOOD FOR OUR DEMOCRACY

    ReplyDelete
  62. Mudavadi yesterday said there is nothing to renegotiate about the accord and people should serve kenyans. ruto the other day said same thing. So who was nyongo speaking for? Obviously the luo faction in odm. whoever said "wajaluo hawatosheki" was clearly on to something.

    ReplyDelete
  63. If you support Kibaki/Raila/Uhuru/Ruto/Karua/Saitoti/Kalonzo please stand up.

If you don't support either then why abuse Raila because of comments here which are negative to Kibaki or why abuse Kibaki because of comments here which are negative to Raila, should we just go ahead and abuse all of them?

I can't do that because I'm thinking of someone who is not among them.

My question is, "Is anybody here supporting Uhuru+Ruto alliance?". Frankly if this is the future of Kenya after 2012 then for the first time I'll say, "WE ARE DOOMED!"

So let's not fight because of Raila or Kibaki because I know higher chances are that neither is going to be a president. We might fight on this ground only to be surprised that either Ruto or Uhuru is the president of Kenya since they have higher chances.

So let's put our energy on the right thing. This not only include the bloggers here but also Kumekucha, lest we find ourselves in a similar situation of impalas that are fighting each other over grazing land yet our real enemies is the lions.

    Philip the visitor.

  64. Chris,

Even Kofi Annan has told the Luo serial complaining triad (Raila, Orengo and Ny'ongo) that the Accord is non-renegotiable. They had been told the same thing by PNU. Hopefully, they will listen this time since it is comming from a foreign master.

If you look at the issues in Lands and Health waiting to be attended to, you would think that Orengo and Ny'ongo would be busy serving the people but wapi, they spend all their time before TV cameras talking about "conjugal rights" in the coalition.

There is something strange that happens to good people when they associate with Raila. Some years back Orengo and Ny'ongo were known to be great Kenyans, presidential material. But today when you listen to them whine, you know they have become something no different than other serial stone-throwing Raila worshippers.

It is now apparent that these three Luos were not born to govern, they were born to serve in the opposition. The earlier they realize that they are wasting their talents in govt and quit, the better. They would be of great service to Kenya in the opposition benches complaining and threatening.

But the differences between the Kikuyus and Luos are fundamentally cultural and are very difficult (if not impossible) to bridge. The two communities hold diametrically opposed world views and the role of individual responsibility in that world. One would have hoped that by going to the same school system the gap would be narrowing. But the evidence on the ground says otherwise.

  86. Sir Alex, @3/11/09; 1:07AM

Stop throwing tantrums and calling Kalonzo names. These are the usual cultural emotional outburst that put other well intentioned Kenyans off.

I asked you to say one singular thing he has done to disqualify him as a presidential material. Instead you come up with Kalooser this, Kalooser that. Yes, he was invited to join the winning side and he has explained why he accepted - to save the nation from further bloodshed he accepted and that shows statemanship. He could have chosen, like others, the violent route and call his supporters to kill the supporters of his opponents but he didn't and that says alot about his peaceful predisposition.

Since becoming the VP, Kalonzo has gone about serving the people without calling for euphoric attention to himself - that shows that he understands that serving the people is not a show business.

In the KANU govt Kalonzo served in the Foreign docket with distinction comparable only to that of Munywa Waiyaki and Robert Ouko before him. At some point he was being proposed for Nobel Peace Prize for his outstanding contribution to the Sudan Peace Accord that finally brought peace to the southern region.

I have said before and I will repeat, Kalonzo is incorruptable. In his long political career he had had opportunity to steal public land, contracts, or factories like others we know. But he didn't.

I could go on and on, but that is not my point today. My point is this: I want to be told what Kalonzo has done to disqualify him. And I don't want the usual mindless emotional clap of msaliti this or Kalooser that.

  87. On Tuesday, outspoken Nairobi Metropolitan Development Minister Mutula Kilonzo said: “Inasmuch as the Prime Minister condemns extrajudicial killings, he should also condemn in a strong manner the killings that are carried out by armed gangs such as Mungiki. They have committed atrocities that are unspeakable.”

Kilonzo is asking the impossible. Raila would rather die a thousand times rather than condemn fellow thugs. He has sent a gift of political literatute to the head of Mungiki in prison in an attempt to win him over to ODM. He desperately wants Mungiki's services in 2012. He thinks they performed superbly in Naivasha last year. That is why I keep saying the PM need to retire to Bondo before he sinks this country into the Indian Ocean.

    Our response:

Fine. Lets put facts on the table.

In 1991, when Kenya was "hit" by tribal violence in the RV, Kalonzo testified in the USA Congress. Can you tell us what his message to the USA Congress?

Once you have informed us on this, we will tackle other issues.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Mwarang'ethe @ 2:34AM;

I am not interested in the "gotcha" game you are proposing we play. What Kalonzo said or didn't say in those Congressional Hearings is in the public domain and is open to different interpretations. Just tell us your interpretation.

Who knows? You might end up convincing us that Kalonzo is not fit to be president of Kenya. But if we disagree, don't be disappointed - remember perfectly logical minds can differ when faced with the task of interpreting the same facts. Further, remember we are judging Kalonzo against other similarly situated political competition, and beginning from the assumption that none of them is an angel.

    3/11/09 3:10 AM

    Our response:

You have not educated us. What you refuse to accept is that, in that testimoney, Raila and Kalonzo "sat" on the different sides.

Kalonzo defending those who were killing Kikuyu's in the RV, and Raila on the other side, defending those affected by the violence.

Those are the facts. That being the case, how do want us to accept this statement from you:

"Yes, he was invited to join the winning side and he has explained why he accepted - to save the nation from further bloodshed he accepted and that shows statemanship. He could have chosen, like others, the violent route and call his supporters to kill the supporters of his opponents but he didn't and that says alot about his peaceful predisposition."

    Furthermore, lest you forget:

    - in 1988 mlolongo elections, Kalonzo was on the "winning side."

    - In 1990 when Kenyans demanded their freedom, we know what Kalonzo was saying as the GS of KANU. Obviously, he was on the winning side as well.

    - In 1992, when Kikuyu's were being killed in the RV, Kalonzo, as you would expect, was on the winning side.

    - in 2007/8, when another election would have been organised to determine the winner, Kalonzo, was once again on the "winning side."

    How lucky is this man.

A man can only read himself in anything he reads or hears. If you give 10 people the Bible, they will come back with different interpretations of the same book.

So, why is this? It is because what we read and get/understand from any book/speech is a reflection of who we are.

Kalooser has never done anything that distinguishes him from the run of the mill KANU politician there has been many times in kenyan history where true lovers of the kenyan people have stood for the people kalooser was never there, he only took part in the opportunistic rainbow coalition together with crooks like saitoti and as the eveidence shows he as quickly rushed back to the 'winning side' the man has no spine. To be corrupted one must first be relevant the guy has never been relevant, he is the one who has been chasing rainbows and desperately trying to make himself relevant. Ngilu for example has shown that she can flex muscle. I have far more respect for her as a politician. kalooser dispite coming a distant 3rd in 2007 was shamlessly trying to make himself number 2, never mind that he is already number two since RAO and kibs are both number 1 according to the accord. That to me is std 4 level of childishness. If your relevant and you know it why fight for such pointless posturing the man is a crying shame and ukambani can surely do better.
Like I said what are his archievements....based on what is said here he served under a useless gov that pilaged kenya and he said nothing, political murders he was serving with distinction, goldenburg.....does chemical Ali come to mind, apperently while serving with distinction, that is precisely the kind of service we DO NOT NEED we NEED change and he DOES NOT represent that in any form or manner. We do not need people who serve with distinction we just need people who will listen to wanaanchi and put the people first. This service with distinction is the same rabbit in the hat 6% economic growth that kibaki wanted us to celebrate while we primarily appointed him for a new constitution and end of corruption.....

Have you ever seen Kikuyu holding hatred towards Luhyas or Kisiis like the way they do to LUOS? And yet the come from the same region with LUOS!

Kisiis are more intelligent and business-minded than Jangs but their is no animosity between Kikuyu and Kisiis.

HOW CAN KENGEN IMPORT COAL TO PRODUCE ELECTRICITY????????
HOW STUPID IS THIS COMPANY?? LOOK AROUND THE WORLD FOR HEAVENS SAKE

KenGen seeks Sh56 billion coal plant partner

    By Reuters

Kenya Electricity Generating Company (Kengen) said yesterday it wanted a joint venture partner to build a Sh56 billion million coal-fired power plant.

The company is fighting to catch up with demand that is widely expected to keep growing in East Africa’s largest economy, despite the global financial crisis.

The company said it was seeking a partner to develop a 300 MW coal-fired plant under a 25-year build, own, operate and transfer arrangement, as well as port landing facilities and an interconnection facility to the existing power grid.

"The project, which will operate on imported coal, entails construction of two units of 125-150 MW with provision for future modular additional units," it said in a statement.

Kengen said the joint venture partner would own 60 percent of the equity stake of the project, which will be built in the Dongo Kundu area of Mombasa port, while it would own the rest. Bids would be opened on April 10, it said.

    Desperate

Kenyan officials say the country — a crucial trade and transport hub for the region — is suffering an energy crisis and desperately needs to boost private investment in the sector.

Like many nations on the world’s poorest continent, Kenya was battered by record oil prices last year that pushed up transport and food costs and ate into government spending plans.

The country of about 36 million people gets 60 percent of its electricity from dams, a third is fuel-generated and the rest comes from geothermal — but the total is not enough.

Late last month, Kengen’s pretax profits slumped 32.8 per cent to $18.76 million for the first half ended December. It blamed higher operational and financing costs.

KENYANS READ READ READ!! CHILLING THE MURDERERS ARE STILL PLANNING MORE MURDERERS.....

I am online in a cafe right in the middle of downtown Nairobi and over here everything is calm and I cannot detect any commotion. I will go outside in a moment to find out. Mind you that message from Muthoni was posted about an hour ago and as you know their offices are at Valley Arcade so it depends on where she was.

However here is something chilling- a letter from some university of Narobi students sent to activist Okiya Omtatah earlier today:

    From: John

    Subject: We are not Mungiki!

Okoiti, we have never met, but please let the world know the following before we are executed:

Mr. Oguta, the Security Officer at the University of Nairobi, who snatched a flashdisk from Charles Odera (3rd Year Law) belonging to Mr. Ojijo (4th Year Law) on Friday afternoon, has called and given Mr. Nengo (a recently graduated Law student UoN) an ultimatum to hand over the computer harddisk belonging to Mr. Ojijo because "Watu wakubwa wanaitaka".

Mr. Ojijo and five other students are in hidding fearing for their lives because they edited the raw materials on extrajudicial killings that Oscar Foundation presented to the UN. By doing this they are among the few living people who know exactly what is going on. They know even that material that was too sensitive to contain in the report that was handed over, and which could only be handed over to the proposed Truth Justice and Recociliation Commission or similar. So they have reason to fear for their lives, especially after the mother of one of them was visited in her home in Western Kenya by two unknown people on Friday morning asking after him since his phone had been off since the assassinations. Our innocent friends are in hiding with their phones off and fearing for their lives. A death threat coming from 0752646845 has been sent to all of them.

We are students at the UoN who have started an above board political movement called The Liberators. We want to demand new political leadership and a different political culture in the country. We plan to register it with the authorities. Among the many organisations we had approached for support to help get the movement off the ground was the Oscar Foundation (where the late Oscar and GPO worked). They responded enthiusiastically. The two thought our idea was good and agreed to support us. As we interacted, and as part of raising money for the movement, Oscar Foundation gave part-time work to some of us. That's how some of us ended up working on the sensitive dossier.

Oscar Foundation was to sponsor a retreat in Limuru last Saturday but the two leaders were killed on Thursday before the event. Killing them outside the UoN has its very chilling symbolism for us.

At the Limuru retreat we were to plan to fan out from UoN to other universities and colleges around the country to create a national platform of students to demand political accountability. We feel 2012 will be too late and will belong to the same muggers of the nation who occupy both sides of the political divide if no people's movements arises now to demand change in the way our politicians are ruining the country.

Interestingly, on Friday after the double murders, the VC, Prof. G. O. Magoha summoned some of our leaders and accused us of recruiting students to join Mungiki, and threatened us with expulsion. This is as outrageous as anything can be. We just want to see an accountable political culture in this country that has no room for Mungiki, rogue politicians, or any thugs for that matter.

Oscar had recently told some of us that he was planning to leave Oscar Foundation to GPO and move on to other things. Since he was Kikuyu and had easily been branded a Mungiki, he thought that leaving the foundation to GPO who did not come from Central Province would make it difficult for the authorities to frame the organisation a Mungiki front. Oscar was convinced that with him out of the picture the Mungiki tug would not hold, and the Oscar Foundation would go about its work without police harrassment.

Truth be told, Oscar was not Mungiki. He was not and always talked against them whenever it came up during our discussions. He juat wanted proper mechanism for identifying Mungiki to be put in place by the State, so that Mungiki does not become an excuse for killing others, be they oponents, rivals, etc. He also wanted then heard before they were condemned so that a solution could be found after the intelligence is perused. Oscar's biggest fear was that the likes of Mungiki and Sabaot Land Defence Force would grow in strength by recruiting millions of desperate youth, join forces, and take over power if politicians let he country go to the dogs the way they are doing, as the people urged them on or watched on the sidelines.

The very fact that we are running for cover from State security structures should tell you how far down the ladder of civilisation this country has been brought by our rogue politicians. Is it any wonder that they and not us are the ones who hire the services of Mungiki and other gangs around the country to push thier wicked political agenda that bodes ill for this country? Who then is MUNGIKI?

  123. HA!!HA!!10 ODM MP'S SPIT ON KIBAKI THE ONLY ONE SUCKING KIBAKI ASS IS RUTO WHO HAS JOINED THE KIKUYUS.. IN PLANS TO KILL MORE INNOCENT KENYANS... RUTO HAGUE OR THE HANG MAN IS WAITING GOT YOU AND YOUR BUDDY UHURU KENYATTA SHENZI NYINYI

More than 10 ODM lawmakers on Wednesday skipped a political rally addressed by President Kibaki in the Rift Valley district of Kitale, where he called for peaceful coexistence among Kenyans.

The leaders, who had earlier attended the launch of subsidised farm inputs in Moi’s Bridge, 15 kilometres from Kitale, stayed away from the rally at Kenyatta Stadium.

The MPs, led by Agriculture minister William Ruto, instead headed for Eldoret soon after the function ended at midday, save for Cherangany lawmaker Joshua Kutuny. He is one of the three MPs from Trans Nzoia District.

Other ODM lawmakers who had attended the function at Moi's Bridge included Ms Peris Simam (Eldoret South), Ms Margaret Kamar (Eldoret East), Mr David Koech (Mosop), and Mr Jackson Kiptanui (Keiyo South).

    Only peace

It could not be established why the MPs did not attend the rally. President Kibaki challenged Kenyans to shun divisive politics and initiate income-generating projects to improve their living standards and Kenya’s economy.

“We need peace and unity for development. Nothing else, it is only peace,” appealed the Head of State. He was accompanied by ministers Moses Wetang’ula, Naomi Shaban and Mohammed Kuti and several assistant ministers, all from PNU.

Special Programmes minister Shaban asked the President to take action against errant ministers who are out to wreck the Grand Coalition Government.

“The ministers should not keep on complaining. It sets a bad precedent to the public. It would not be wrong if they are punished,” she said.

Foreign Affairs minister Wetang’ula said the alleged alliance between Finance minister Uhuru Kenyatta and Mr Ruto was not for political gains but meant to unite Kenyans. He took issue with the media for sensationalising the matter and urged them to help forge unity.

Despite his lack of gratitude, others have always sacrificed for him. Kibaki’s third cardinal sin is his failure to acknowledge, thank and compensate freedom fighters or even those who have fought and sacrificed for him.

Like one who has never heard that when a cow suffers injury in the pastures, it drags itself home for assistance, when freedom fighters and their families turn to him for acknowledgement and support, he looks the other way. Without being taken to court, Kibaki’s government has refused to acknowledge, thank, compensate and apologise to freedom fighters for all the pain and ruin they suffered with their families.

By failing to compensate freedom fighters, Kibaki’s fourth cardinal20sin has been perpetuation of past injustices like corruption and ruin of freedom fighters. Mau Mau freedom fighters who lost land remain landless. Fighters for second liberation who lost their jobs and incomes remain destitute, hungry and sick.

The State will pay them neither compensation nor pensions. Even their children lack employment because their parents could not educate them from graves or prisons. The fifth cardinal sin of Kibaki comes to mind when you read about Italy’s recent paying Libya $5 billion for colonialism or Germany’s earlier compensation to Jews for holocaust.

Unlike Gaddafi, Kibaki has failed to stand up to Britain for Kenya and demand both apology and compensation for colonialism, Mau Mau brutalities and wars of colonial conquest.

Instead, like Kenyatta and Moi before him, Kibaki bows to Britain as if by colonising and robbing us, she did us a favour. But many Kenyans share Kibaki’s guilt. We supported and voted for his presidency, despite our clear knowledge of his weaknesses.

Kenya must never fail with another leader the way it failed with Kibaki and Moi.

  126. Chris:

Thug Molasses Raila should leave the Universities alone to be run by the professionals. He is not qualified academically or otherwise to run a High School leave alone a university.

    * The thug has no high school certificate - he didn't finish Form Four.

    * The only document he has says that he has a Masters Degree in engineering from former Communist East Germany. The document is not supported by any academic work he did while in E. Germany. As a matter of fact, he spent most of his time while there in a Communist Youth Camp. He was awarded the document as an honour in recognition of his father's work of trying to spread communism in East Africa.

    * On return to Kenya, through his father's connections he was employed by the Faculty of Engineering at the UoN. He could not teach, and the student demanded that he be thrown out or else they would stone him. He left.

    * On leaving the UoN, his father gave him a job in the family company, Specter. He was restless and his father feared that his reckless dismal performance would ruin the family business.

    * Again, his father's contacts came to his aid and was given a govt job with Kenya Bureau of Standards. It was while there he started missing work for long periods of time. Little did people realise that he was spending a lot of time in Umoja organizing a coup d'etat with some of the most illiterate juniour Luo members of the Airforce. His father through former Ugandan president,Milton Obote, pleaded with the govt to save the neck of this thug. Because he was lucky to be born an Odinga, this man retaine his neck. The other Airforce worshippers of his were not so lucky, they lost their necks to the hangman at Kamiti.

    * After that he spent a lot of years in jail for various criminal activities. Those years he spent in prison have been used by his worshippers as evidence of his liberation credentials. This is absolute nonsense. Every aspect of his political endevour has been motivated by his greed for power: first to try to install his father in the presidency, and later himself. It has never been about the downtrodden masses of Kenya. But let us be honest, he is gifted in hidding and lying about his motives. He has been able to convince some euphorically minded Kenyans that he means well for all people. But evidence points in the other direction: between 2001 and 2002 he joined Moi's govt and became a billionaires in a record two years, and he exploited and preached tribal hatred to emerge a strong second in the preidential contest in 2007.

But apart from his manipulative genius, he lacks any other known mental attribute. Therefore, when he attempts to micro-manage the affairs of our universities, he lacks the requisite academic or management know-how to manage even a High School. And this should be made abundantly clear to this pretender.

  129. 1. There can be positive ethnicity. We do not have to pretend that tribe doesn't matter, same way we cannot pretend race doesn't, or "we're all the same". In fact, some tribes in one geographic area are more different than of two races.

    2. When politicians get their seats, they are done with you. If you are not a financial supporter of their plans, they do not give a furk about you. That is why leadership has always been the rich vs. the poor.

    3. Kenya is headed to the dogs with all hatred i see here- and we saw during and after the 2007 elections. Especially now that there is an economic meltdown, an errant runaway police force, a killer army, scores of hungry unemployed youth seeking change but forced back by overfed politicians.

I hope this doesn't happen, for you all know that once a war starts in any thrid world country..it goes on for centuries with no side caving in.Let us not let that happen; let have try to have meaningful dialogue first, however hard it is, otherwise it is downhill fast.

  130. And, I agree with anons 3.34 and another anon that pointed out that kyuks and jengs are the troublesome ones with hot hatred for each other, none else. Kisiis are v. intelligent(top five in 2009 kcse, five = kisii, see?) while luhyas are the 2nd most populous tribe that have also had an eye on the Seat yet kyuks and jengs are not looking to slaughter those as much as each other. So, these two tribes-kikuyus and luos- have to engage in some sort of dialogue and other measures to iron out their dumb, troublesome coital relationship troubles that are disturbing everyone in the region!
