Succession: Kalonzo Political Turf War in Mars

The Vice President came with the guns loaded and blazing. He was firing from all cylinders. And with the nozzle squarely aimed at the PM he left no doubt that making yourself relevant and count is key in every political game. The 70% Kenyans disapproving of the GCG are in good company of the VP. He has picked the gauntlet and fighting in their corner.

If Raila thought he would get away with his unwarranted criticism of the GCG then he got a promptly loaded mouthful from the President’s principal assistant. The man of God spelt it as clear at it is by reminding the LESSER PRINCIPAL that all key ministries responsible for coordination, prioritization and consistency in implementation of government programs are headed by ODM.

To remind all and sundry of his relevance, the VP listed the three parties making the Grand Coalition Government as PNU, ODM and ODM-K. And that should lay to permanent rest any doubts that ODM-K is just a passenger in Kenya’s present gravy train.

Kalonzo is not asking for too much apart from demanding accountability from his colleagues. His statement to the press couldn’t have been more clear and FORMAL replete with all instruments of his office.

Smokescreen
Every Kenyan of good will must rally behind Kalonzo if we have to detour from self-destruction. His mission deserves our unwavering support. Add Karua's nightly Reconciliation and National Healing overtures with Rift Valley leaders and you get people seeing far and beyond the present political gridlock. Theirs is proof to the fact that there is more to productive life than just DOMO DOMO.

Meanwhile ODM has no wiggling room and the RAGING HEAT is directed at her face. The NARA has been revised and people must be alive to the true position. With 7 out of every 10 Kenyans dissatisfied with the ineffective GCG, Kalonzo is demanding collective ownership of the one year failure epitomized grand corruption.

The smokescreen packaged as vision 2030 has been exposed for what it was. One year gone and the glue that partnered the scoundrels together is getting weaker by the day. The succession war will surely mutate into a hydra with every passing day, NA BADO.

  1. Please, the talk in town is about THE BIG BOYS. Where does Kalonzo fit in? I suggest you tell us how he spends his days following the sloth around lest Raila displaces him, or is seen dishing out relief food in ukamabani.

  5. Taabu,
Leave our future president, Kalonzo Musyoka, out of your old-woman type of rants and wails. We know some DOMO DOMO tribal gangsters like you loath the fact that Brother Kalonzo has never been ivolved in theft of molasses like Raila. It is time we discard thugs like Raila and hire a man who respects Kenyans and follows God. Upende usipende, the majority have decided that Kalonzo will be the next tenant in State House. You can take that to the bank.

You start with an idea, and then you let it grow. I think at the moment, there is a tendency to want to see political change occur in the developing world very rapidly, and I think this notion of consultation and democracy is all excellent, but I simply don't believe that Western forms of democracy are necessarily replicable throughout the developing world that I know, and indeed I would go so far as to say that, at the moment, one of our risks is to see democracies fail. […] I think you have to be patient, careful, analytical, thoughtful, prudent, and build step-by-step. I don't think it can be done like mixing a glass of NescafĂ©.

There are those... who enter the world in such poverty that they are deprived of both the means and the motivation to improve their lot. Unless these unfortunates can be touched with the spark which ignites the spirit of individual enterprise and determination, they will only sink back into renewed apathy, degradation and despair. It is for us, who are more fortunate, to provide that spark.

These themes of patience and persistence permeate the Aga Khan's responses on almost every issue. It has taken 25 years - half the span of his long-running imamate - to foster modest, though significant, economic development and functional cooperation among nearly 4,000 villages in lawless northern Pakistan. It will take similar patience, plus a lot of wisdom, to counter the fallout of failed democracies in areas as diverse as Central Asia, East Africa and Eastern Europe.

But, going forward, he sees a 25-year span as probably long enough to set right the worst of the dire poverty that afflicts a quarter of the world's people. If, and this is huge if, the world gets its policies and priorities right.

Getting it right would mean more global and regional stability, better quality of life for millions, and, eventually, a raft of new players buying and selling in the world marketplace.

    And getting it wrong?

"The risk of failure is that these parts of the world will remain fragile, ill-governed, with weak economies. Internal stresses will become external stresses."

This risk, he warns, is dangerously high.

Thus, "The downside is very, very serious. And the upside is encouraging, and can even be achieved."

Then, as the interview ends, he adds one more risk: "Intellectual vanity. For everyone."

  11. On another note: I've been looking for Michela Wrong's book about Githongo yesterday (it was supposed to be out on 23.2) but couldn't find it anywhere. Then somebody told me that it was banned and that government agents are collecting all the copies that have been distributed. Do you know anything about this?

    ReplyDelete
  12. This is what I said in this blog yesterday. You cannot be in government, spend one half of your time convincing us that the head of government consults you in every government undertaking and the other half claiming that someone else should own the failures of government. It is you who needs to own those failures. your failures.

The Isinya outbursts about ODM being hampered by their companionship with the PNU to deliever the promises they made to their followers is taken straight from John Githongo's not very authentic handbook, one that shamefully attempts to deter us from blaming his masters for the collective failures of government. If you are a boxer whose hands are tied behind your back, then you need to get the hell out of the arena. You should declare yourself handicapped and walk out of the boxing ring.

What the Vice President is saying is simple; If you are in government like himself, you should be willing to take questions. You should be ready to carry the cross of blame. You cannot always be in the frontline claiming credit for every little thing the government does and heaping blame on others on those areas the government records a dismal performance. Focussed and mature leadership demands that leaders stop childish things!

This Prime Minister can only lie to those in his party who have always mandated him to think for them. When you tell an ignorant bunch of supporters that some of those unpopular policies the government pursues are found in the PNU manisfesto, specifically which policies are you talking about--stealing of maize? Is that one of the PNU policies? Raila Odinga cannot run away from responsibility. He has nominated half the cabinet that has been such a headache for us, he is more powerful than 99% of those in government and he is the one, thanks to President Kibaki's benevolence, charged with the day to day running of government.

His gameplan is simple; enjoy the trappings of power for the time being and then jump ship a year before the polls claiming irreconcilable differences with those "willing to take Kenya down the gutter". Well, as usual, there are those who will believe him.
What he should know is that those are not enough to make him President.

  13. Surely even for sheep this should easy enough. You are either in gava or out. If there are people who believe what rao is saying then dr watson is right about our intelligence.

  14. In african folklore there is a story of a hyena that was following a dying animal on a road. The hyena fell far behind and lost sight of the dying animal. Suddenly the road forked and the hyena was unable to decide which road to take. It eventually decided to take both roads and was torn into two, and of course died.

  15. What Kalonzo is telling Raila is very simple: "Stop being a lad who want to play ball but when the team loses he blames all other players but himself. Grow up and be responsible for your actions as govt coordinator and supervisor." If Taabu can't understand that simple message them he is irredeemably lost to the cult of Raila worshippers.

  16. Raila is a shameless big african thug. When he is not busy fighting for a presidential salary to take to his fat wife, he is blaming others for the mistakes of the govt he coordinates and supervises.

  17. Is the billion ksh pm office one of the pnu policies being forced on rao?

  18. Please people,
Don't blame Raila, understand his circumstances. In govt the PNU thugs can't let him exercise his god given powers, and in ODM, thug Ruto can't let him run through the herd without squeezing his balls. Ouuchi! Our messiah from Bondo cries at night so that we can sleep in peace. Please, understand his situation.

  19. Raila's complaints remind me of Sani Abacha, the former military dictator of Nigeria. One time, Abacha stole and banked most of Nigerian oil money in his foreign accounts and there was no money to pay the civil servants. When the people complained, Abacha blamed what he called juju men (medicine men) in his govt for his failure to pay the civil servants. What was amazing is that some followers of Abacha believed him and launched a manhunt of these imaginary "adui yetu." Meanwhile, Abacha was spending his nights in the govt palace in Abuja surrounded by prostitutes from India and Romania.

  21. Time we stop defending Raila is now.Raila had the support to form a party without the Kanu thugs who make the ODM.During the campaign period many times he was asked how he intended to create a corrupt free government whereas all those around him had been associated with corruption. His defence was non had been convicted! Therefore let him carry his cross. His ambition was to get power for the sake of it.Now its up to him to deal with his gang mates. He has failed his supporters and just like Kibaki his time is up.Those of you who still cringe on these thugs coat tails are doomed. The Kenyan political class is a gang irrespective of its ethnic background. There is no difference between Ruto and Kenyatta,Kibaki and Raila,Kiraitu and Ntimama,Jirongo and Murungaru all are the same.
I have learnt my lesson.I will never support anyone with questionable character. It's better not to vote than vote for disappointment.

  24. Why should i vote for Kalonzo in 2012?

    ReplyDelete
  25. There are good reasons for voting for Kalonzo. (1) He is God fearing and doesn't lead a cult. (2)he does not preach tribal hatred (3) He is not corrupt (4) He is not power hungry (5)By accepting to be VP he saved Kenya from a potential civil war that raila was planning. (6) He not a kihii like raila.
