A Regime Oozing Corruption From All Orifices

One may be forgiven for imagining that Kibaki’s administration is jinxed to serial economic frauds. In the last three months, fraudulent deals hitherto cemented before last year’s elections are continuously being exposed. From the bar-talk-never-sold-actually-sold-above-board Grand Regency to the stinking Rift Valley Railways. The RVR is promising to be GRANDER than Goldenberg and Anglo Leasing before it. Leaves you wondering whether any asset sitting on asset Kenya will be left standing by 2012.

With enterprising Libyans shamelessly reading riot act at DULY ELECTED in his own backyard, we may as well consider ourselves collective squatters in our own country. The breakneck speed at which everything Kenyan is being nationalized (nay auctioned) smells everything except honest privatization. The players are so smart in taking advantage of the imperial presidency and state law offices such that no legal lose end is left. Any administration in the future trying to recover or retrace any of these mega scams will be permanently entangled in legal webs with all manner of serial constitutional references.

The rate at which fraud is popping at every crevice in Kibaki’s administration is proof enough of how elaborate the scheme to auction Kenya has been. But trust fraud and deception to hit back in vengeance as evident in the turmoil in Safaricom shares. While pedestrian economists gloated about their acumen to make a killing during the IPO, they will remain blind to the dead end of the path they chose. But again those asking pesky question in a room full of the smell of money have been derided as the epitome of lazy bones. Let industrious Kenyans reap the maggots hatching from the eggs they zealously bought and protected.

Wages of economic sin
So how many fires can a regime start and fan in a single term of office? It appears while Moi was ruining Kenya, the present vultures were salivating, scheming and bidding their time. It took Moi more than two decades to bring us to our knees. Contrast that with the monstrous looting in less than six years and you get DECEPTIVE INDUSTRY redefined. The Grand Coalition must be the Achilles heels to the smooth looting highway that has seen elite looters cruising at formula one speed in the last five years.

The present power elite have economics as their stock in trade and Kenya as the collateral. But despite this mad rush to primitive wealth accumulation at the expense of the rest of Kenyans, the evil schemes will come back to haunt their perpetrators. They may rape Kenya to her bare bones but the sins will definitely catch up with them in the long run. They will be made to pay for the numerous crimes they committed as collateral in pursuit of economic might. This may take time in years but as sure as the sun rises in the east these scoundrels will pay big time in the fullness of time.

  1. There seems to have been a mad rush to nyakua as much as possible before the expiry of Kibaki's term.

Mzee Moi once said - umepatiwa ng'ombe na unakamua na gigombe.

These people seems to have taken a cue from this statement which explains why everyone is out with a bucket and not a kikombe. Unfortunately for them, the cow has kicked and spilled whatever little they had in the bucket.

Serves them right. we want to see more milk spilling.

  2. Taabu after a very good patriotic article the other day, today you are back to soiling Kibaki's tenure. Shows how difficult it is to 'detribalise' our ways of thinking, isnt it Taabu?
First you seem only to select issues which have been sexed up by the partisan media and quoting them like the gospel truth. a quality of a gossip journalist that you have well depicted in this article. second, you want to paint a picture that corruption under 24 years of Moi's misrule is surpussed by the 'Corruption' under Kibaki. a concept coined from a well lubricated ODM campaign machinery. reminds me of the children of Israel on the way to the promised land. they in many ways than one told Moses that Egypt was better for they would eat and drink. by the time they got to the promised land, God had wiped the ungrateful generation from the sojourners.
Moral of the story, be careful what you wish for for it might come true...

  8. For those wondering about Chris' whereabouts, just wanted to let you know that there is a small problem. Some jack seems to have reported his Nigerian scam tactics to the authorities. He is supposed to be out on bond on monday.

Any of you who may have fallen for his 'Raw Notes' scam should just let it be. I do understand that he promised they will be free in public but as soon as you send your email, he hit you with a request for $20. Well, he also started selling imaginary Kumekucha shares ... idiots who fall for any of these two scams should just shut up and sing.

Grand Regency Valuation took only three hours, commission told
    Written By:Judy Maina , Posted: Fri, Aug 08, 2008

The chief government valuer in the ministry of lands Antony Itui was on
Friday put to task to explain how he arrived at the 2-billion shillings
figure as the going price for the Grand Regency hotel.
Itui told the Justice Majid Cockar Commission into the saga that being under
pressure from the commissioner of lands, he opted for the contractors method
which involved inspecting the cost of the building and its surroundings, a
process that took only three hours.
He said the inspection took place on the June 23 2008.
He said the following day the compiled report inclusive of the value of the
stamp duty for the hotel was issued.
Itui said they also assessed the value of other plots within town for
    comparison.
Meanwhile Senior Land Registrar Zipporah Mule said the wrong entry in the
land transfer document was realized after a media outcry.
She however said a correction done later was within the Land's Act.
Yesterday the commission was told that there was a mistake in the entry of
the hotel transfer fee where 2.5 billion shillings was quoted instead of
1.85 billion shillings, being the said actual value of the hotel.
The commission was however told that at no time was the then Finance
Minister under investigation Amos Kimunya in contact with the lands
    ministry.

One must be at least specialized in certain area- That can benefit if one chooses to be Member of Parliament(MP)and councilor(yes we are competing for this too)

IF WE ARE GOING TO CHANGE HOW HOW GOVERNMENT WORKS THEN WE ALL HAVE TO BE COMMITTED AND BE EDUCATED AND HAVE SPECIAL INTERESTS IN THE TASKS THAT WE DO....

KENYANS DO YOU THINK IT IS IMPOSSIBLE OR DIFFICULT TO HAVE NEW FACES AND CHANGE THE GOVERNMENT WAY OF THINKING?? THAT CERTAIN PEOPLE HAVE TO BE VOTED OR ELECTED IN FOR KENYA TO WORk??

then think again- we have already recruited 800,000 kenyans between ages of 18-45 - high school certificates, diploma's, degrees, Masters degrees and PHD's-
we are aiming for 5 -10 Million kenyans and from this lot we will chose who will represent our party in the next elections.

We have tooo many intelligent kenyans in many different ways and forms who can manage our country and economy without corruption and that my friends is what we hope to accomplish ( in a bloodless take over through votes or kenyans to have new vibrant faces in the next parliament)with no connection to corruption HISTORY!!

SLOW AND SURE WE ARE GETTING THERE....

  22. Taabu,

Two points just to straighten out your armaggedon worldview:

First, no administration now and in the future can ever equal Moi's corruption. I know you will never agree because, as Moi's tribemate you benefitted enourmously including being admitted to (you know where) without competative qualifications. The RV mafia were so ruinous that they ran out of options and started grabbing public toilets (that is how low those illiterates went).

Second, you keep deluding yourself that if you write your tribal-slanted rants here at Kumekucha, some mega-thieves will be punished. Look at Raila (molasses), Ruto (govt land & houses), Jirongo (NSSF), Cheruiyot (Internal Security tenders & Kabuga's genocide money) - have they been punished? No! Instead they are heroes where they come from. Even those who are not in politics like Moi, Gedion, Biwott, etc - where have they been take? Nowhere!

Why? Because you and others keep on viewing national corruption through myopic tribal lenses!! It is time we called every thieve, even from Mogotio, by their names!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  23. The fight against corruption Kenya is partisan, that is why it will be hard to win. The thing any corrupt individual needs to do today is to join ODM, and will get protection from the ODM-controlled parliament. For example, just look at Kajwang' - he is being exonerated instead of censure. Kazi imeanza ODM style as KANU before them.

  24. Speaking at Kitui High School, the President......

What do you call a president who when not sleeping at SH only feels safe visiting central and parts of ukambani?

    c. guilty thief
    d. lazy bum

  27. We Kenyan in Diaspora rescued the falling shilling. Between January -June 08, Kenyans living abroad sent back home Sh22 billion in the first half of 2008, as remittances from the diaspora blunted the effects of falling foreign exchange inflows from tourism and horticulture exports. Central Bank of Kenya data shows that inflows from Kenyans living abroad increased by 28 per cent to $329 million up to June this year, compared to the same period last year.

Kenya now ranks as the second biggest destination for remittances in Africa behind Nigeria, which attracts Sh205 billion ($3.3 billion) from its citizens working abroad and ahead of Sudan ($1.2 billion), Senegal and Uganda ($0.9 million each) and South Africa ($0.7 million).

"The kibaki succession is on the mark- uhuru-muyoka kalonzo" line up is kibaki's dream

    Wrangles split central leaders

    Published on 10/08/2008

    By Gakuu Mathenge

"I relished political duels because they summoned up the blood and stiffened the sinews," Francis Urquhart wrote in his political thriller, House of Cards.

The Party of National Unity kingpins have thrust themselves in the ring and started purring at each other as the Kibaki succession gathers steam.

But when push will come to shove, the bravado being displayed by PNU leaders will ‘summon up the blood and stiffen the sinews’.

    proxies

Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka, Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta, Internal Security Minister George Saitoti, Justice Minister Martha Karua, Energy Minister Kiraitu Murungi and their proxies are under pressure to define their new political homes.

For them, their political ground has shifted, and need serious re-organisation to survive a wave of challengers. Their challengers will exploit their failures and promise a leadership based on change.

And it happened last year, when majority of key political point men were swept aside, President Kibaki’s regional appeal notwithstanding.

When Kalonzo visited Mukurwe-ini constituency in Nyeri last month, Laikipia East MP Mwangi Kiunjuri sent the message.

"We (region) are yet to decide which way to go. We are still taking soundings and waiting to see who talks to us. It all depends on who addresses the most pressing needs our people face today, top among them the Internally Displaced Persons," Kiunjuri said.

The significance of his statement was Kalonzo and Karua were present when he spoke.

Both were guests at an education day hosted by local MP and Assistant Minister Kabando wa Kabando.

The VP and Karua have been courting the central Kenya vote, and Kiunjuri was serving them notice. He said the region would not just embrace anyone because they liked his or her face; there were issues to be resolved first.

Unfortunately, none of the key political leaders or parties has captured the imagination of the region like the "Moi Must Go" slogan coined by then Opposition leader Kenneth Matiba in 1992.

Last year, Kibaki’s re-election, and the "Kazi iendelee" slogan was the rallying call for the region, which provided the bulk of his re-election votes. It was not enticing.

In 2012, "Kazi iendelee and Kibaki will not be around hence PNU and its affiliates should find new meaning.

Unlike the Orange Democratic Movement’s support base, that views the Grand Coalition Government as coffee break before resuming the Grand March, the PNU nerve centre is yet to unite central Kenya around any issue. This is the message Kiunjuri was sending to Kalonzo and Karua.

While Kalonzo obviously earned local support when he salvaged Kibaki after the disputed presidential election last year, he needs to do more to woo voters.

One baggage Kalonzo must shed is the perception he may not be in charge of the unity bid. That was merely waiting for Uhuru and Saitoti to craft the boat for him.

Kalonzo has taken to touring the region at the slightest excuse, rekindling the nostalgic Kamba- Kikuyu ties. During the struggle for independence, President Jomo Kenyatta and nationalist Paul Ngei, united the two communities.

Karua’s presidential ambitions have also not been based on any tangible issues, besides haranguing her opponents such as Uhuru and Saitoti.

Since Uhuru was appointed deputy PM, Karua has never hidden her resentment. She feels overlooked despite her defence of Kibaki’s disputed presidency.

Her rivals have now launched a propaganda she is a proxy of ODM leader and Prime Minister Raila Odinga, but which she denies.

    perfect weapon

Her rivals know that is a perfect weapon for a region still traumatised by post-election violence, and to whom notions of regional unity, however elusive, are appealing.

And going by the voting patterns last year, the propaganda will have takers even in her Gichugu backyard, where nearly half rejected her Karua got 32, 831 votes (52 per cent) of the vote. Her opponents garnered a combined 30,280 votes.

Like Karua, who complains of having been disinherited by Uhuru, Saitoti has harboured similar grudges dating back to their Kanu and Moi years in the lead-up to 2002.

Saitoti was Moi’s loyal VP for 12 years (1989-2002), and was among the presumed heirs to the throne, until Uhuru appeared on the scene in late 1990s.

By 2002, Moi had placed Uhuru right on the first lane of succession, and Saitoti realised too late he was not on the line-up.
