Why The Constantly Blundering NSIS Is A Big Danger To Kenya Part 1

A country’s intelligence service should be its’ pride and everybody should be confident that the nation’s intelligence network is well able to take care of the beloved motherland’s national security.

While the dreaded predecessor of the NSIS, the Special branch, achieved a lot with very limited funding in those days, the relatively new NSIS has in its’ short history brought only plenty of shame and many are now doubting whether those running the outfit really know what they are doing.

In January this year, private armies and militias whom we are told were put in place before the ill-fated general elections caused unprecedented mayhem and thousands of Kenyans lost their lives as a result. Apparently the NSIS did not have a clue as to what was going on. Indeed while various commentators predicted chaos if the elections were rigged—including this blog, it seems that the folks at NSIS did not have a clue. And accordingly the NSIS advised the president that all was well.

But there are many other glaring errors of judgment on the side of the NSIS that have come to light that are very scary and would seem to suggest that Kenyans do not really have an effective national intelligence outfit in place. Just to give one more example, the role and behaviour of the director general of the NSIS in the election fiasco seems to suggest that this is a man who has very limited understanding of the country and its’ people (outside his own community) or views them through prejudiced lenses. If this is true then the country is in such grave danger that it would have been much better if we did not have any intelligence service at all in place. Heck some politician’s personal intelligence networks have proved to be hundreds of times more effective.

My own careful observation and encounter of little details in the operations of the NSIS especially on the World Wide Web and in what is widely referred to as new media has left me deeply embarrassed at the realization that those behind some of the actions have no idea what they are doing.

Let me first make it clear that the NSIS has NEVER been a threat to my personal safety (as some people who have written me emails seem to think) and my recent troubles had nothing to do with them. Rather the strategy they have adopted as far as this blog is concerned is one of carefully monitoring it and wherever possible doing everything to limit its’ influence from spreading further by discrediting stories and posts carried here. Nothing wrong with them doing their job, even as I do mine. However the manner in which some of their operatives have pursued this objective has mainly been laughable.

A few months ago, somebody mysteriously cloned this blog and came up with a blog called Kumekuchas.blogspot.com. Notice that the difference is the “s” at the end of Kumekucha. That person who would not have achieved the feat without going into a lot of trouble and some expense because they even copied the exact design and logo of Kumekucha at the time. The monitoring system I have in place enabled me to discover the site hours after it came up on the web. My first reaction was to assume that it was the work of some amateur with more money than sense, or an aggrieved person whom I had exposed in previous posts. My inquiries kept on pointing in a different direction. It took me quite some time to believe that the evidence was pointing where it was.

Now without wanting to lecture you or show off my limited knowledge on web publishing, the truth is that if you cloned the Daily Nation print edition or any other print publication, the impact would be considerable. However when you do the same online without even bothering to do any SEO (search engine optimization) for important keywords, then basically it is a waste of time and resources. Or to simplify matters even further you just need to ask yourself the question; how will you get traffic to the site?

Secondly serious efforts have also been made to constantly jeer at articles in this blog. These efforts have completely ignored one fact. And that is the level of intelligence of the people who read this blog. Even I have been constantly amazed at just how intelligent and knowledgeable most of our readers here are. They are hardly the kind of people you can spin a yarn to and get away with it. Of course the fact that a few of them (who mostly like to leave comments) are radical supporters—or is it hero-worshippers—of either of the principals in the grand coalition government can fool a casual observer into thinking otherwise. However I can tell you one little secret. The majority of silent readers most of whom do not leave any comments ever are not fools.

Still the persistent comments here by people who are convinced that all posts in this blog are trash and not worth reading and do not have any new information have left one simple but puzzling question on the minds of intelligent regular readers here. The question is; in the busy world we live in today why would somebody waste their valuable time writing comments all over the place to discredit Kumekucha? Why not just stop visiting the site and instead patronize other sites that offer more reliable and acceptable information to them? Why is it so important to repeatedly tell other readers that you will stop reading the blog and you continue t do this for 6 months or longer?

I leave you to ponder on that mystery as you await the second and final part of this article.

Don’t miss Part 2 of his article where I talk about the failed attempt that was made to halt Safaricom SMS services at the height of post election violence and why the Tanzanian intelligence service is second to none in Africa. Plus how tribal tensions within the NSIS have destroyed the effectiveness of the intelligence unit.

The people wsupposed to gather intelligence seem to have failed Kenyans.they are clearly lost and living in an ancient world.Intelligence gathering needs sophisticated equipment NOT riding around all day in a PEUGEOT 504 menacingly, arresting matatu touts and speaking in a 1599/-MOBILE PHONE .
The NSIS has been beaten hands down by petty crooks as Mungiki, Why wait for STANDARD INVESTIGATORS to go into riveroad to BUY PASSPORTS and TITLE DEEDS then follow up and claim to have won the war on crime!THE NSIS is already corrupted and compromised they say "Wood already touched by fire is not hard to set alight"

  2. Clearly NSIS as i understand it,its sole purpose is to furnish the tenant at statehouse on political intelligence. No serious bloke at DoD can put into use info gathered by NSIS.

Atleast when Moi was the Tenant at Mlimani he used the outfit well and there was some sort of orderliness at the outfit. What i see are some drunks normally employed in some useless companies that dont have value to Kenyans directly but that are deeply into patronage.I know one who has been at Zhakem the Israel contractor and was transfered to Commercial Bank Of Africa.I tried to link the logic but it still beats me coz the bloke has no known banking credentials.

Such mis-postings of this NSIS guys just makes the outfit all useless. Why like Charles said, shouldn't they be at Eastleigh or riveroad to smash such alternative Goverment presses!

The best thing would be to disband it all together.

  3. Chris,

Why do you go around registering blogs and saying NSIS are after you.
Do you understand how to trace IP? alot of information on this site come from a central source IP

  4. dont know for sure

but i believe NSIS gathers intelligence then passes it on to the relevant leaders and groups for their action.

without further clarification on what intelligence was gathered and what exactly transpired after processing and passing to the relevant arms of government it would be unjustified to blame or commend the NSIS.

we have seen kibaki dilly dally with decisions so it may very well be that pertinent information was passed on but either did not reach the relevant organs or was shelved.

I also dont think NSIS is as visible as we think they are, they should not be confused with CID and those many other undercover special police squads

  5. Kumekucha ?? are you asleep?? follow this story - WHY DO YOU THINK SUCH A DECORATED ARMY OFFICERS HAS BEEN RETIRED EARLY??

ANSWER -FOLLOW THE MT. ELGON MURDERERS OF INNOCENT KENYANS BY ARMY OFFICERS(SEEMS NOW WE WILL HEAR THE TRUTH) HE QUESTIONED SAITOTI'S AND ARMY GENERAL CRONIES ACTIONS AND HE HAS BEEN REMOVED NOW- TO ENABLE MORE COVER-UP

Army officer retires on Defence Council’s recommendation

    Published on 14/07/2008

    By Ben Agina

Armed Forces Training College Commandant Maj-Gen Geoffrey Lukale Okanga has been retired with immediate effect, The Standard has established.

Okanga is the only key officer in the Department of Defence (DoD) to be sent home.

Another 100 officers in the rank of Major and above are set to retire between now and next year following recommendations by the Defence Council, which met last Tuesday and Friday.

The council meets twice a year, in May and November, but had not done so since May last year.

Okanga has been replaced by Brigadier Haji, who despite his new posting, was not promoted to the rank of Maj-Gen, as should be the case.

Brigadier Simon Karanja, who was Okanga’s deputy, has been promoted and will replace Maj-Gen PJO Opiyo.

Opiyo, who was General Officer Commanding (GOC) West Command in Gilgil was tipped to take over as the Kenya Army Commander upon the promotion or retirement of Lt Gen Augustino Njoroge, whose terms ends in June next year.

    Officer’s fate uncertain

The fate of Deputy Army Commander, Maj-Gen Jones Mutwii, remains uncertain.

Mutwii’s term in office ended last December, but is said to be enjoying a close relationship with Chief of General Staff, Gen Jeremiah Kianga.

In an unprecedented move, Colonel Nyambok’s Commission has also been terminated. By implication, Colonel Nyambok ceases to be a Commissioned officer.

Commissions are granted to officers by the President to enable them command their juniors.

However, the termination of an officer’s commission is equivalent to being fired.

President Kibaki, who is the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, is expected to approve the Defence Council’s recommendation this week.

Those not affected in the changes are Kianga, Vice CGS Lt Gen Julius Karangi, Njoroge and Commandant of the National Defence College (NDC) Lt Gen Jack Tuwei.

Okanga was previously an Assistant Chief of General Staff in charge of Operations, Doctrine, Systems and Training at the Defence Headquarters before which he served as the Director of Military Intelligence.

He was also once the Chief Audit at the DoD, Defence adviser in London and Paris.

Okanga also served with the UN mission in Iran –Iraq (UNIIMOG 1988-1989).

  9. The Security Service (NSIS) is responsible for protecting kenyan Govt and its people against threats to national security. It is responsible for collecting, monitoring, and analyzing intelligence on threats to Kenya. They dont as we so in Jan as museveni attacked.

Without these services, kenya could suffer serious consequences, including severe economic damage, grave social disruption or even large-scale loss of life.Has anybody seen that?

  37. Kenya has never had an intelligence service what we have are a bunch of clowns wasting the tax payers money the less said about them the better.

As for the military purge, that has been going on since the thief came to power from day one.

What is of concern to me are kifucky’s new ‘friends’ China, Libya and Iraq.. …
The recent IPOs in Kenya have shown that Kenyans have enough money and willingness to invest in just about any thing, one has to ask why there was no GR IPO we would have bought it. Why flog it to crooks and none Kenyans?

The bottom line is that central has discovered that their appetite for the wealth found within the Kenya borders is very high and since they cannot rule by the ballot they must rule by the gun. If they wait for majinbo the will not have access to some of these things so the must flog them ASAP. Remember the excuse that Museveni gave for showing up in Kenya? Ati to protect goods being transpoted to Uganda like they were not insured. No trailer was looted and arriving late happens trailers kuff all the time.

This is how it works if there is chaos meaning kifucky and co are caught stealing another election then China Libya and Iraq can come in to ‘protect’ their investments.

So in one fell swop Kenya has been sold to the international crooks we should have seen this coming when the Arturs showed up.

Some still will want to defend PNU when its selling our country. Central people have always preached to us not to defend RAO as RAO is in it for himself while hoping that kifucky and co will trickle I down to them well we can now see that their leaders have sold the country for themselves and are preparing to use the as cannon fodder in the likely event of a war with the rest of Kenya.

yap Brown was laughing and pissed off since they had the exit poll showing kibaki lost the election and when Martha Karua was screaming Genocide- on BBC they already knew that Kibaki , karua and cronies planned & executed with the former president Moi(moi did it to protect his stolen $) the burning of the poor kikuyu families in the Eldoret church- they used Moi who has masterminded the same in 1997 like thy thought kenyan could forget easily the same happend in Lumakanda, Kipkaran, Turbo whn Moi send his thugs to burn people alive in thier houses the only differenc here it was not a church and many were burned alive.

Kenyans have long memories- in this case they knew they had lost the elections and had to use drastic measures in order to bring instability in kenya so that they could get away with rigging the elections and from the corner of the same mouth shout Genocide when they are the ones who did the killing(kibaki, karua and cronies)

so now what- they will pay dearly
look SUDAN PRESIDENT IS A WANTED MAN NOW- HE HAS TO ANSWER FOR CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY AT HAGUE

how can thugs called NSIS, CID or any arm of Kibaki government inve4stigate anyone in kenya for real?? they should start by investigating Kibaki, Martha Karua, Uhuru, Michuki and cronies for funding the mungiki to commit genocide from Eldoret, Nakuru, Naivasha, Kibera and other parts of kenya

and hey wait Mungiki youths executions and now we have more than 4000 youths missing not accouted for picked up by kibaki goons during and after 27th December 2007 elections

Chris, I think u have directed your anger to the wrong party. First I think we need to know what the NSIS does. Collect, analyze and monitor information.

These guys have some info and they always analyze and monitor it. They know who'd win the elections 3 months b4 the results, they knew about Mungiki, SLDF and even the Kale warriors. Heck they even knew about the Mamlukis. They knew all this and analyzed it. They then handed it over to Kibaki. Do not underestimate those guys, most of them have infiltrated some gangs and are still collecting info as we blog here. They are well trained both locally and internationally and sometimes they use informers to get info whenever they cant penetrate some groups. I dont need to inform u what the info they have but just know that their work is not easy.

Try getting thousands of tips and processing them to determine which is valid, not valid, not dangerous now, very dangerous, etc and you'll see that being in the NSIS si kitu kidogo. Believe me your tax is doing it's job. What u should be asking is, kwanini the decision makers dont make the right decisions ?

  50. MY BOYFRIEND AND I HAVE BEEN PLANNING A GRAND WEDDING BEFORE THE END OF THIS YEAR. THE PROBLEM WITH HIM IS THAT HE IS A TERRIBLE DRUNK OF A GUY AND THUS NOT THAT GOOD IN BED.

I AM A MATURE WOMAN, AND SEXUAL SATISFACTION IS MANDATORY. DUE TO HIS UNDER-PERFORMANCE IN BED, I WAS INVOLVED IN A STEAMY RELATIONSHIP WITH ONE OF OUR CLIENTS WHICH EVENTUALLY LED US TO BED SEVERAL TIMES.

YOU SEE, THOUGH THIS GUY IS OLD AND MARRIED WITH A FAMILY, HE DELIVERS LIKE A STALLION UNLIKE MY B.F. ON MONDAY I WENT FOR A PREGNANCY TEST AND IT EMERGED THAT I AM TWO WEEKS PREGNANT. AS MUCH AS I KNOW THAT THE GUY RESPONSIBLE IS THIS OLD FELLA, I HAVE FORCED MY B.F TO HAVE SEX WITH ME EVERYDAY OVER THE LAST 3 DAYS, JUST IN CASE...................................................

NOW THE BOMB. SHOULD I TELL HIM THAT HE HAS PAGED ME OR I JUST BE SINCERE AND TELL HIM THE TRUTH??

A COUPLE OLDER LADIES I HAVE APPROACHED OVER THE ISSUE TELL ME THAT THIS IS NORMAL IN OVER 90% OF THE HOMES AROUND AT LEAST 2 OUT OF 5 KIDS ARE 'IMPORTS' AND THEIR HUSBANDS ARE PROUDLY BRINGING UP KIDS WHO ARE NOT THEIRS, SO I JUST LIE TO HIM THAT HE IS RESPONSIBLE & HE'LL BE A PROUD DAD TO BE!

WHAT SHOULD I DO, I NEED TO BREAK THE ICE BEFORE THE WEEKEND IS HERE! SHOULD I POINT IT AT HIM OR I SHOULDN'T?????
