Kibaki Attempts to Stem Political Bloodbath

Kimunya’s political death before he resigned has forced Kibaki to act albeit in arrears. With MPs smelling blood, Kibaki has finally realized that being aloof and leading by remote control can be politically fatal. This has seen him call a PNU meeting for Tuesday to help recoup some resemblance of an organized party despite the reality being the parts disintegrating from the plastic sum.

Kibaki’s attempt to take direct control of PNU comes with challenges that he must be ready to confront. For starters he is cleverly trying to manage his own succession. The wars so far pits his close allies and also threatens others who are left with no known party were PNU to disintegrate. Put with political egos ballooning at every party convention it will be interesting to see how the whole succession battle fans out. The war is on pitting four parties. The Karua axis believes they have boxed themselves into the ring and are left with choice but to fight. Jomo Jr. on the other side cannot afford to see his dream/deal shuttered right before his eyes.

The experienced and moneyed Prof. Kiarie Kinuthia Saitoti must also be having an ace up his sleeves against the loud political toddlers. Water Assistant minister Mwangi Kiunjuri completes the picture of rivalry and fight for post Kibaki political space in Central Kenya with Grand National Union party whose patron is none other than Daudi Mwiraria. Kibaki has a tough task to reign on the bloated egos and contain the suffocating ambitions of 5Ks -Karua, Kenyatta, Kiarie, Kiaritu and Kalonzo.

Taming egos of 5Ks
Granted, impunity and utter contempt can be effectively applied to a nation enslaved by a tattered constitution. While selective and selfish application of the law can afford you the luxury of auctioning a country to China and Libya, containing burning ambitions of fellow politicians scheming to succeed you is a different ball game altogether. With Ford-K having decamped when its value dramatically depreciated in the coalition, it will be interesting to see the direction Narc-K takes with the iron lady in the controls. Kalonzo’s too is not naive to the political dynamics and will want his commensurate pound of flesh when the right time for payback comes.

Leadership from the rear can be very expensive in the long run. One would have ordinarily expected PNU to have a meeting prior to Kimunya’s censor motion in parliament. But make no mistake. The present attempt to secure the stables after the horses have bolted has more to it than just political fire fighting. With the king exposed, he has to come out fighting to chaperon his troops in order to avoid any more leaks given that more deals with Libya need to be accomplished before Leader Gaddafi throws embarrassing and incriminating tantrums.

When you con your way into political office ridding on a tower of Babel you must be ready to have your skull kiss debris from the resulting ruin. Well, the duly elected has his job cut out for him. He must brace himself for the challenges of managing a patchwork of political edifices revolving around competing loyalties albeit with the common agenda to succeed him. Kibaki is simply paying the ultimate price of cobbling a party on the wrong premise and devoid of any structure.

  1. Taabu,

When it comes to the politics of Mt. Kenya region don't ever pretend to understand it because you will either sound hollow or pretentious. For instance, you are attributing too much to the Muugithi dance of these wannabe presidential candidates. The people of this region do not shout themselves hoarse with emotions; so it is very hard for an outsider to figure out what the general opinion is.

Without going into details, let me say that there is a concensus between the people and the opinion shapers of the region that it is not prudent to field a presidential candidate from the region and its diaspora.[Never forget that opinion in this region is shaped through whispers.]

The region will support a candidate who is not antagonistic to them as a people or their interests especially if that candidate comes from either the Kamba or the Luhya. For now Kalonzo fits that bill but if Mudavadi were to cross over, Kalonzo would be toast. For Kalonzo to get unqualified support from the people and the "whisperers," he will have to study Moi's script as Kenyatta's VP. Moi got Kenyatta's nod when Moi stared down Seroney and won the confrontation over the issue of settlements in the RV. From then on, "mali kwa mali," Moi was a safe bet (bankable). Kalonzo will have to look for an opportune moment to prove his bankability and the presidency will be his for the taking.

As for Karua and the other Ks, they are just auditioning for VP or PM positions and they know it pretty well. For Karua, she needs to dance with extreme care, for a rumour is being spread that she is a Raila's mole (and that she is mortgaging the region without consultation). The outsiders can call her the Iron Lady and she may believe it, but she needs to remember that those ululations are not coming from home. And the people from home can easily turn her from an Iron Lady into an Ironing Lady in an instant.

  2. ...if Mudavadi were to cross over.

What would make him cross over? Keep on looking for a lame duck who will look the other side as you enjoy your ill gotten wealth.

I'm in agreement that Kalonzo would be the perfect errand boy, but haven proven that he is not dependable (remember one Julia?), I trust that you are putting your 'wisdom' to good use by looking for a plan B.

    Good luck with the search

we can see through your stupidity and ignorance and if you are indeed from central province then you must be in a box abroad.
Karua already received a nod from kibaki! seeing the high level central province big wig that are already paying her home-age and in process of collecting money for the 2012 elections
Kalonzo is just a tool being used now to confuse kenyans -( a deal has already been made) as for UHURU- sorry we from central all know he has no chance for presidency! why do you people keep on mentioning his name?? he is no where on the central province ticket as far as the presidency goes- he has already said the V.P position is good enough- and as for saitoti he is in Martha Karua Camp that is the fellow we see getting the V.P slot

Being from Central Province and on ground in Nairobi that is what is happening in the back rooms

So for once let us have open politics instead of pretending otherwise and then voting as a block for another kikuyu! why pretend??
Kilonzo Musyoka is no where!! period!!

Stop being a poor kikuyu looser-
why bring other tribes in a central province political discussion?? or are you scared of what is actually behind the scenes?? the bloodbath that is happening or the pretense bloodbath when deals have already made and Martha Karua has already been endorsed for 2012 presidency is pathetic and childish- hey kenyans ain't fools- we saw it happen with Kilanzo in 2007- the deal was made even before he registered to run for presidency - between him and kibaki- he was just trying to derail ODM from the inside- Kalonzo is the malaya of kenya politics
Now he can't sell odm secrets so who is he going to prostitute this time round?? ooops wait he is already malayaring around pretending to go for the 2012 presidency being used by the big wigs from central province while in actual fact a deal between him Karua and Uhuru has already been made that Martha Karua is the presidential candidate-
to confuse kenyans he has to be seen like he is campaigning-
the people i take pity on are the poor kamba's they have a malaya for a leader.

  6. Martha Karua is the heir apparent. The game is to portray Martha as a Kibaki hater. This will endear herself to the Nyanza and Western. Before they realise - Martha is a darling of western Kenya. Once elected, she retreats back into Mt Kenya cocoon.(NA KAZI INAENDELEA) The best plans ever? Well they say in Scotland - EVEN THE BEST LAID PLANS CAN GO WRONG.

  7. Why does the president see it prudent to call a PNU meeting and yet continue postponing cabinet meetings without reason?

Not to belittle the Bible Society, but why was their function with the president national news? Not Surprisingly the officials were all Kikuyus.

Is Kibaki paid to be a Kikuyu president? I challenge him to venture outside central province to meet the 'kenyans who voted for him'. Could someone please remind him that the IDPs are also suffering - THANKS TO HIM.

I understand kalonzo is busy putting out fires in Ukambani, if/when he is through, can he venture outside central and ukambani.

I feel sorry for the pair; 5 years is a long time to circulate in only 2 provinces.

  8. agree with anon 8:23

the cabinet meeting has been postponed twice b'coz president is busy, yet he is not too busy to go for whatever that bible thing was, and to hold PNU crisis meeting.

    very very strange

wonder what our priorities really are

  9. anon 5:00 guys from central do not ever have a plan, they just need to know which guy from central is vying and they pour out en masse. its not about any ideology so please spare us the whisperings and what not. the choices are pseudo monarchy (support of Uhuru and types) or incumbency (current or elderly leadership). the only notable thing is that the youth in central are awake and may want to chart a different destiny but even that is doubtful judging by the 100% vote so do spare us, just present and prop up your next king of central

    This was From my inbox:

    Dear good people,

Thank you for raising this matter. I have some info on this and have been trying to reach our leaders on what action to take. Of late none of our ministers is answering my calls. Maybe they think I'm looking for a job or some favour. These are people who would return my calls, even after midnight some three short months ago! But this is beside the point.

Some of the facts on Miwani:

    1. Miwani Sugar Mills Ltd (MSM) was placed under receivership by Bank of Baroda (BoB) and Chase Manhattan on June 20, 1988 with J.T. Birnie and R.K. Mungai of then Coopers and Lybrand as receivers. GoK then entered into an agreement with then debenture holders(BoB) to liquidate the debts by instalments and concluded payments in May 2007.
    2. Meanwhile, GoK incorporated a new company, Miwani Sugar Co. (1989) Ltd, hereafter MSC (1989) with a share capital of Sh 200 million of which Sh 42 was issued and fully paid. GoK invited Vanessa Associates to take up part of the shares of MSC (1989) and by an agreement signed on February 21, 1991, GoK was to have 41% of the shares and Vanessa (read Somaia), 51%.
    3. The Title Deed for land parcel LR No. 7545/3 (IR 21038) registered in the name of MSM was never transferred to MSC (1989) to date.
    4. BoB charge against LR 7345/3 was satisfied and discharged on May 15, 2007.
    5. On February 21, 2001, Miwani Sugar Co (1989) Ltd was placed under receivership by Kenya Sugar Board (KSB) and Delphia Bank. Since then the debenture holders i.e. KSB and Delphis have appointed sucessive Receiver/Managers, the latest (and current) being Martin Owiti and Kipng'etich K Bett.
    6. Despite being aware that property no LR 7545/3, IR 21038 was never asset of MSC (1989), KSB went ahead to pay Somaia-owned Delphis Bank (now Oriental commercial Bank Ltd) some Sh 330 million and a further Sh 350 million to First Debenture holder Surjit & Malkiat Singh (Rumy). Ironically the latter was unsecured creditors who was later "classified" as "secured creditors" for purposes of effecting payment - a favour that was not extended to other unsecured creditors who have not been paid to date.
    7. It is intriguing that none of the receivers from February 2001 to date has acknowledged that LR 7545/3 was never an asset of MSC (1989). Worse, the current receiver/managers advertised for sale an asset that does not and has never belonged to MSC (1989) Ltd. The auction was duly advertised in the Kenya Times newspaper on december 6, 2007 (page 25) for december 24, 2007.
    8. On December 14, 2007, the advocates for MSC (1989) unsuccessfully applied to stop the sale, which was conducted as scheduled with Crossley Holdings being declared the highest bidder at a price of KSh 752 million.
    9. The court subsequently issued vesting orders to the Registrar of Lands to transfer the land/title in the name of crossley Holdings ltd and issue a fresh title in their name.
    10. On January 29, 2008, the Registrar complied and transferred the Land to Crossley.
    11. There are a number of issues regarding the auction that raise eyebrows;

    * The case against MSM is supposed to have been filed in 1993 (HCCC 225 of 1993). However, advocates for MSC, on scutinising the documents, noticed that Form No. Civil 1B known as Summons to Enter Appearance dated June 28, 1993 belonged to a generation of documents that were designed from the neginning of the 21st Century i.e. the year 2000. the first 2 digits i.e. 20.... are cancelled and digits 1993 inseted.
    * The printer's reference number on the Summons appearing at the foot of the document reads JKF -10/2000 meaning the form must have been printed at the Jomo Kenyatta Foundation in the year 2000 at the earliest.
    * In 1993, one of the Deputy Registrars of the High Court who would have signed the documents was Mrs Olga A. Sewe, who has since moved to the Kenya Anti Corruption Commission in Nairobi. for those who are familiar with Mrs Sewe's signature, the signature on the documents appears to be an attempt to forge her signature.
    * Both the plaint and summons bear the stamp of Mail Registry. lawyers can confirm that the practice is that documents such as plaints are recived in the Registry - not Mail Registry
    * There are other incidences pointing to forgery

From the foregoing, the sale of Miwani land is fraudulent and smacks of high-level corruption. Who can help us launch a public interest litigation to make sure this public property reverts to the public?

Kenyans wake up we are being played yet again with the same same politicians who have been around since independence- when will they young generation take over?? you do not need an opposition to take up the fight-

All you need is the people of Kenya behind you and that means fight and root out this corrupt way of doing business in Kenya and the musical chairs- going round and round!!

we need people with fresh voices full of new ideas- most of this people in parliament are there jsut to collect their cheque at the end of the month(kenyans tax payers suffering)

Stop wake up and smell the roses-
we have to turn this round and a true MP will go back to kenyans and start screaming on top of their voices what is wrong with the politics and corruption in kenya through the support of the voters who put in parliament in the first place- we are tired of all this arrogance and in deference to shown towards ordinary kenyans

Well said- the martha karua plot was discovered when some jealous kikuyu brothers said a woman can not rule them:) you see i hear Kalonzo musyoka has already agreed to continue as a VP:) deal brokered by kibaki between Martha Karua and him- this is direct from an inside sources/ uhuru did not feature anywhere..

if you hadn't notice UHURU coming out in support of Kalonzo for 2012 presidency that is just a spin in the works- Karua martha is the chosen torch bearer-
but sources confirm she was told to distance herself from Kibaki and PNU and she has been doing a good Job of it according to Mt. Kenya plan.

The story going around that she has sold herself to Raila ati a mole that we hear was also discussed at that particular meeting-(the rumor will not die in fact they want it to be a hot topic)

well since their plan was discovered we are watching closes what the next spin will be- this people never cease to amaze me - on how far they plan to go to keep statehouse:)

I the meantime, kibs continues to rule and plunder secure that he can count on ODm to drive masses of poor kyuks behind him with their blood drenched hands and militias.

Folks, just remember Julia Ojiambo, Kaluki ngilu, Koigi Wamwere, William Ruto, Joe Nyaga, Musalia Mudavadi and Uhuru Kenyatta were also supposed to be Presidential candidates for the 2007 elections.

  25. All the idiotic nonsense and Kikuyu phobia being spilled here just points to one fact, that most of the posters exhibit real fear that once again, the coveted Presidential seat will not go to the almighty exalted Jaduong, the all knowing Sibuor who moves from house to house inciting and raising party members hopes with dreams of utopia(finish all the Kikuyu and all will be well, so sayeth the Sibuor)and leaving fire in his wake.
The seat, too bad, is going to Kalonzo(the betrayer?) with Uhuru as Prime Minister.
I have said this often enough, and now even Mutahi Ngunyi agrees by telling Raila to convince Kikuyu's that he can be trusted, and the Presidency will his to lose. When a prominent political commentator like Ngunyi says Raila will lose to Kalonzo(unless), better take it very seriously. We have said it before and we will say it again, if you want to be a shoo in for the Presidency in Kenya, better make a deal with the Kikuyu. It is that simple. Forget all the ignorant, pretentious bitter rubbish posted here.
