Justice Minister Heckled at Lorna Laboso Burial Ceremony

Marco Kiprono, 8, is helped by an unidentified member of the Orange Democratic Movement's Young Women Democrats to carry the portrait of his mother, the late Lorna Laboso, after her funeral service at the Good Shepherd Church on Ngong Road, Nairobi, on Thursday. The remains of Laboso are due to be interred at her Manaret home in Sotik, this afternoon. Picture: Andrew Kilonzi (The Standard)

The funeral of former Assistant Minister has been rudely and temporarily interrupted after a huge crowd that is attending the funeral heckled justice minister Martha Karua. The mammoth crowd threatened to storm out of the ceremony if Hon. Karua was allowed to address the gathering.

It has taken the intervention of Agriculture minister William Ruto who has pleaded with the masses to allow the justice minister to eulogise the late minister. The justice minister, clearly upset at the turn of events, has only said a few words insisting that justice will be applied ‘both ways’, in response to calls for amnesty by some of the speakers who addressed the gathering before her. She has also accused some unnamed individuals of inciting the crowd against her.

The casket bearing the remains of Lorna Laboso, drapped in an Orange cloth, are due to be laid to rest this afternoon at her Manaret home in Sotik District. Lorna died in a plane crash last week at Konjonga area in Narok District alongside Roads Minister Kipkalya Kones and his bodyguard Kenneth Bett whose remains were interred yesterday at his Ndaraweta home in Bomet District. Raymond Moi has read a message of condolence on behalf of his father former President Moi.

The ceremony is proceeding and an anxious Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka, cabinet ministers, MPs and provincial administration officials are listening to William Ruto's speech. ODM Captain and Prime Minister Raila Odinga is currently overflying the Atlantic Ocean following his highly successful state visit to the US and is expected to arrive in Kenya later tonight. Speaker of the National Assembly Kenneth Marende is also attending the burial ceremony.

Strangely, for yet to be known reasons, President Mwai Kibaki has kept away from the burial of Lorna Laboso.

Update from Oscar written by Chris @ 4:55 pm Kenyan Time
Whoever organized the programme at Lorna Laboso's funeral in Sotik a few hours ago must bear some of the blame for the heckling that threatened to get out of hand a few moments ago.

Charity Ngilu the minister of water spoke immediately before Martha Karua, the justice Minister. This should not have happened because it is a well known fact that the two are bitter rivals and more so hold very different views concerning the thorny amnesty issue.

True to form Ngilu in her speech brought up the subject of amnesty for the youths still being held in connection to post election violence. Ngilu played to the crowd and was wildly cheered when she said that justice must be done and leaders who called for mass action must also be arrested and if this could not happen then the youths should be released immediately. The truth is that this worked up the crowd and set the stage for what happened next.

When Justice Minister stood up to speak moments after Ngilu had sat down, there was an immediate commotion in the crowd with loud jeers and a section of the crowd even got up to leave. The minister's alert security detail immediately surrounded her fearing that something could easily be hurled from the direction of the surrounding trees from where scores were following the proceedings. Meanwhile the minister could be heard saying; "this was planned."

The late Lorna's mother was quickly brought forward to try and calm the crowd, to no avail. It took the efforts of agriculture minister William Ruto who had to plead with Karua to sit down first while he calmed the crowd. At one point he could be heard telling her, please sit down, I will call you, I promise, I will call you, I promise." Karua appeared determined to address the mourners whatever the consequences.

Ruto managed to calm the crowd and spoke to them at length in Kalenjin. Just as he finished Karua had again rushed to the microphone where she unwisely and emotionally started castigating "the few" who had organized the disruption without naming them. She made matters worse by contradicting what her cabinet colleague had said earlier and saying that justice has to be equal to all because that is what the late Laboso whom she called a friend, stood for. Karua attended her homecoming celebrations barely 2 weeks ago.

Interestingly when Ruto returned and started talking about the same subject of justice and amnesty for the scores of Kalenjin youths being held by police, sources say that the KBC live transmission was mysteriously "cut off" and the live broadcast only resumed when Ruto had finished that "sensitive" part of his speech.

Judging from the mood of the crowd it is rather clear why President Kibaki gave the funeral a miss.

  1. Why is the crowd angry with Ms Karua? Please enlighten us; not everybody lives in Kenya.

  2. ODM are justified to say stuff that may irritate...they are grieving.....

The imp karua should just shut up its not time to talk 'justice' Who let her speak?

ODM is bending backwards too much......

PNUers have no sense of decency the could have sent someone less controvercial..but then agin this PNUwe are dealing with...what a shame

Justice minister insinuating that what happned to Laboso was Justice applying bothways.....

Ole wetu....why do we have to live with this animals?

  3. There have been calls for amnesty from the ODM side, bt these have been outrightly rejected by their PNU counterparts. The hundreds of ODM youth remain in jail months after a peace deal was reached and a new cabinet constituted. In my opinion, the issue of these youth may eventually bring down this government. Speaker after speaker is calling for the youth to be forgiven and released in the spirit of reconciliation but Hon Karua has been always beed adamant that NO ONE will be released or given amnsesty and justice will be applied both ways. (Kivuitu and his commissioners are free). This is what is upseting the crowd in SOTIK.

  4. Yes...Karua was right on justice applying both ways! Even the IDP's are suffering because of reckless talk that came from ODM.Karua is bold & not hypocritical like ODM.

  5. Times of grief calls for very delicate balance in tact and speech. Kibaki must have seen it coming and gave it a wide berth. But he should have seconded a LESS POLARIZING person instead of the abrassive Martha. She will obviously choose the easy option of reading malice from a saint's script-shadow boxing.

Karua is yet to shed her grandstanding postures of Serena. Or is she still smarting from being shortchanged for teh DPM post?

All the same the tension at Lorna's funeral is symptomatic of the wider rift still prevalent in Kenya. Al the talk about healing and reconcialtion is has never been taken serously=LIP SERVICE.

That said the hecklers owe Lorna respect and she must be allowed to RIP.

  6. As one would have expected, the Kalenjins led by their blood-thirsty and hooligan ODM MPs turned the funeral of Assistant Home Affairs Minister Lorna Laboso into a forum to vent their anger and frustrations of their own making on ministers allied to President Kibaki (read Kikuyus). They used the burial as a platform to preach their ODM hate politics and further their hate agenda against communities from Mt Kenya region.

I wonder why they never heckled VP Kalonzo Musyoka like they did to Martha Karua. Kelenjins and Luos are two tribes in Kenya that remain primitive in modern world. The only method they know of expressing their disapproval of other communities is heckling, stoning and slaughtering them like condemned chicken. That is a primitive culture they have refused to let go.

When Kelenjins and Luos heckle and stone leaders from other communities who visit their region, what message are they sending? Do want to say that their leaders should be subjected to the same humiliation when they visit zones that support Kibaki?

On June 14, Raila flew to the Ruring’u Stadium in Nyeri for the installation of Nyeri Catholic Archdiocese Archbishop, Peter Kairu. The residents from President Kibaki’s political and home backyard gave Raila and Kalonzo Musyoka a rousing welcome. Ruto Himself has been to Murang’a and Nyeri recently and we all saw him chatting heartedly with the residents who turned up to listen to him.

Had the reverse happened and key Kibaki loyalists or even Kibaki himself visited Kalenjin land and Luo Nyanza, we all know what those brutes from the regions would do.

Communities from Mt Kenya are in Kenya to stay and those who dislike it would better take the next available rope and hang themselves. Whether Kibaki stole an election from Raila is not for me to judge. My concern is the cheap hatred Luos and Kalenjins have against Mt Kenya Communities. Reason? Mt Kenya communities are wealthy, industrious, enterprising and hard-working. If Luos and Kelenjis suffer from inferiority complexes, it’s not the problem of Mt Kenya communities. Work hard to uplift your lives and stop whining like old women.

Heckling the likes of Martha Karua because of her strong opposition to Kalenjin MPs who have been demanding amnesty for their kinsmen who butchered non-Kalenjins during post-election violent is the high of primitivism. Using allegations of a stolen election as a disguise to slaughter non-Kelenjins brought out the brutes that are Kalenjins. The killers should not go scot-free whether Kalenjins like it or not. Pursue your grievances of “STOLEN” election through other means.

  7. anon 5.34am is a very narrow observation. do you think it is easy to meet Karua and talk to her? the leaders are just saying what everybody is saying except for the venue. Let Kenya move forward. the deaths committed by police at 60% and from the two communities mean nothing to you. how many kikuyus were killed in Nyanza? do not talk water... you owe the country an apology, with power hungry kibaki at 70+ killing people and pleading angel. to hell with the mafias.

I think yu suffer from luo phobia, what do the luos have to do with the heckling that took place?

Do you know why Kenya is such a mess? Coz of your like.....Niseme nini tena, HAKUNA...The feeling is mutal ...Luos and kalenjines are here to stay...They will continue heckling and throwing stones and slaughtering you like chicken!!!! and if you dont like that...GO HANG!!!

It is the last time i am asking...What is so different in Central, that is not in Nyanza and RV...What is it that is there that will make me envious and want to slaughter you like chicken....Get a life....uplift the standards of your people first and then come and spew rubbish over here.....GIGO

  9. Response from anon 5.34am to Anon 5:49 AM.

The people who were shot dead by cops during post-election violence were hooligans and looters. What had looting supermarkets, stoning other people's cars, looting business premises, burning homes, burning people in an Eldoret church and burning of a church in Kibera etc got to do with a stolen election?

ODM is a party of killers and God is punishing its MPs and leadership for genocide and burning places of worship. Is it then a wonder it's ODM MPs who are dropping dead like rats. Let them seek God's forgiveness. If Kibaki stole the election, let them persue him as Kibaki and leave the Mt Kenya communities alone.

If Kikuyus support police killing Mungiki gangs, what's so special with Kalenjin and Luo gangs? All gangs are equal and should be wiped out with the easiest method possible - bullets.

  12. At Anon 5.34AM, if what the Kalenjin and Luos are primitive for "throwing stones and slaughtering others like chicken", what would you call what happened to Raila at the Karatina Hotel just before the elections? How many times has Raila been humiliated at the hands of Kikuyus including the Kikuyu MPs? How many times have we heard Raila being called names in the media? To you, how do you define primitivity?? Do you mean you wrote that article without detecting the irony and hypocrisy in it?

And talking of being "successful and industrious", why do you think Kikuyu's are against a new constitution (and Majimbo)? If their success was acquired legally and ethically, why is there so much resistance whenever there's a push for a new constitution? Why are Kikuyus so afraid of another tribe ruling Kenya?

That said, Chris, Phil, Oscar (the new guy), and all Kumekuchans, I said it here before and I still repeat; the Peace accord was just a temporary ceasefire! I do not support what happened after the elections, but unless our politicians tread carefully, Kenya will go the 2007 way again, very soon!! Watch this space!

By the way, have the MPs accepted the Tax proposal?? Who has the latest news?

  15. Martha Karua is the most honest politician kenya has ever had and the heckling by the sotik people does not affect or change what she stands for-THE TRUTH.so lorna is gone what does that have to do with miss karua the people of sotik are still trapped in the pre and post election hatred..wake up and smell the uji! your selfish leaders planted the seed of hatred in u which is bloosoming into bitterness while they now reap 700000+ every month and laugh dine with the so called madoa doas! Foolish peopple! when will your simple gullible minds ever mature? you think by heckling karua you show your leaders how much loyal you are? you think they care? it only goes to confirm to them how stupid you are and that they dont need to do anything for you but whip up you hateful emotions after another five years.. and you wonder why your so backward..loosers!
the blogger above is right you never see people in Central/Mt Kenya and the wastaarabu at the Coast behave so primitively!some one should research why these luos and kalenjins result to such amateurish ways to prove a point. in campus they are the ones who heckle speakers damage property and throw stones! just grow up and MOVE ON!!.. people in central are business as usual while you still wallow in bitterness at the end of the year when the returns are in the peasant in central has made ten times what you have made then the song of that day will be 'inequality na wanapeewa za bure' and the vicious cycle continues...
Miss karua is a descent human being and is not hypocritical like Ruto(great show for the cameras by the way)plus the tags hardliner and abrassive are tired by now, everybody knows the exact opposite of these words in kenya is your average politician who sells his soul(and constituents) for 30 cents na hana msimamo!

  16. Anon 6:11 AM. You and your fellow tribes have been singing that song that Kikuyus are rich because they stole. What rubbish is this? If that was the truth, where were you and your tribes to also steal? Laziness and marrying multiple women wont help you. Hard work is the key to success.

And who tells you only Kukuyus will burn when Kenya burns? Are your bodies made of stones. Kikuyus are tired of backmail. Burn Kenya and we'll all burn there!

What happened in Naivasha in Feb? After Kibaki retreated to his usual bunker in State House as Kikuyus were being butchered, Kikuyus ganged up and you know what happened in Naivasha. Kikuyus who own property in Nairobi also threatened to evict Luos and Kalenjins from their property.

That was the turning point of the post-election violence. Luos and Kalenjins also felt the pain and knew they did not have a monopoly of violence.

Dont wait for tomorrow to burn Kenya. BURN IT NOW! WE'LL ALL BE CONSUMED BY THE SAME INFERNO!

    ReplyDelete
  17. This is EXTREME PRIMITIVITY from narrow minded Kenyans, just like we all expected. Our greedy politicians turned a sober and sorrowful event into an arena of settling down political scores. Pea brained countrymen hurled the event upside down into a party politics affair.

With as many deaths of senoir ODM politicians in just 6 months, word on the streets is that the gods are avenging the deaths of the most innocent who died in elections chaos that were STARTED by ODM sympathisers and their leaders.

It's a fact that Kalenjin land spilled the most blood of totally innocent Kenyans. Who can forget screaming Kids who were fleeing an Eldoret church being tossed back into a flaming inferno? Could the deaths of 2 senoir Kalenjin leaders be a sort of punishment from angry gods?

A certain well known preacher who occasionally beams live on TV recently prophecied more bad omen to befall senoir ODM leaders, innocent or guilty of the January bloodshed. Time will prove him right or wrong.

  19. The more things change the more they remain the same. So we are back to where we started. Reason DECEPTION. The likes of Karua thinks LIP SERVICE is sufficient to wash the tension. Well may be in the non-existent PLUTO.

The lull is soon giving way. None is safe even the cheap chaps gloating here about industry. There is no monopoly of violence but the leaders must respect teh dead. Karua doesn't know when to sew her 1m-diameter mouth.

Did somebody sat........Mt Kenya communities are wealthy, industrious, enterprising and hard-working. If Luos and Kelenjis suffer from inferiority complexes, it’s not the problem of Mt Kenya communities. Work hard to uplift your lives and stop whining like old women.........

"hey dont worry about the kikuyus...you see you shouldn't envy their businesses, lands ,property etc since its all ill gotten wealth, they steal, prostitute and kill as for us we are holy and good our poverty is therefore justified"

Morons i agree with Karuagirl you are so blinded by envy you cant recognised the excellent kikuyu enterprising mind at work..some kikuyus steal so what?they live a better life than the primitives in Nyanza and the kalenjins its called survival for the fittest baby. but go on yap as much as you want it will not affect the GDP in central/GEMA
As for prostitution we know who wins in this category just think of the poor nigerian millionare or adhiambo odero but i have nothing against these sitters they can do whatever they like to get the elusive cheddar.

I know Luos who like to brag about how good and educated they are, but all this is vanity. Vanity upon vanity all is vanity!

What from this article would make you say anything negative about Luos? did any Luo mp say something offensive against kikuyus? You see Luos don't have any inferior complex, in fact one could argue it is kikuyus who do. If Luos were so inferior why do kikuyus fear them so much, that they have to result to murder and other crimes against Luos leaders? They're so inferior right?

  31. Research after research has shown that NYANZA is indeed the poorest province in Kenya. It's amazingly poorer than North Eastern Province! This is despite having plenty of rainfall, fertile soil and hosting Africa's biggest lake which is a priceless asset. It's also common sense that Nyanza produces the sharpest brains in Kenya. So what ails Nyanza then?

This is an issue which we can't just wish away or merely sweep under the carpet as many brothers and sisters from the lake would like. Infact, it will forever keep popping up on this blog or elsewhere and used to hammer our brothers from the lake.

Instead of competing who will be closest to Raila, the leaders from that region should bang their heads together and come with concrete solutions especially now having the previllege of being in government. Someone like motor mouth Prof Nyong'o should talk less and do more for his constituents.

Of course poverty is rampant in Kenya but when I visited Nyanza last year, I had never seen such big constellations of mud huts. It's a good thing that this issue is being discussed openly without any fear and it should be encouraged. A prosperous Nyanza will bring about a stronger Kenya.

On the issue of heckling, the shame should be on the mourners and not Martha. What a befitting tribute they displayed to their much beloved Lorna?

Thanks and wish everyone a blessed weekend.

Yes its true that the Kikuyu community has some of the richest people in Kenya However its important to not that some of the poorest people in Kenya come from the Mt Kenya region. In fact more that 50% of the Kenyan population live in extreme poverty. Extreme poverty I repeat!!!!! Three out of four poor people, live in rural zones. Over 80 per cent of these people live in areas surrounding the Mount Kenya region and Lake Victoria.

So my friends.... the rich are who you should gang up on....not tribes and regions.

Are people still talking about going the 2007 way? grow up if you think you will punish kikuyus by starting a war go ahead. ofcourse the kalenjins thought they can throw the kikuyus out of the rift valley and get away with it but they forgot that to get to nairobi they needed to pass through kikuyu land and in a country where everything vital is in nairobi(read kikuyuland) that was a huge mis calculation! i still have the images of the poor luo man who was frogmatched from a bus to his death let that serve as a warning to all of us we cannot plot to eliminate a tribe and expect it to go down alone. ofcourse for the kikuyus the war wouldnt be the first they can give up all even life to ensure there children will still survive just ask the british!

The anon in a previous comment who does not seem to know anything about blogs being sold. Stop shamming Kenyans, wewe!! with your ignorance. Many foreigners read this site and gauge the intelligence of Kenyans based on the comments. Try using Google search it is a great tool in dealing with ignorance. FYI, Blogs like this one are changing hands all the time for hundreds of thousands of dollars and sometimes millions.

The other interesting thing I have taken note of here in the last eventful month is the high volume of anonymous comments that ask questions and then answer them in another comment or support each other in seemingly independent comments. Only that it is obvious it is the same person. The whole intention is clear, to give the impression that the view is popular opinion.

It is also obvious to me that somebody wants to silence Chris by touching on his revenue earning in the hope that he will no longer be able to run Kumekucha, because this thing about raw notes and the pittance he gets of $15 financing his stay in the US is getting very boring and sickening, whoever you are please spare us. 39. m-pesa, very good points, however, in the interest of honesty, let's not forget that Nyanza was clearly marginalized for a rather LONG time. Of course, there's a major lack of enterprise, but there are other factors too that are beyond the individual. Maybe J. Sachs can infuse the spirit of enterprise. Who knows?
But anyway, I think there's a LOT to learn from Nyanza people, especially when they put their emotions aside and Kenyans must acknowledge that. Would be nice for Kenyans to just get along and cooperate, after all you dont have to like someone to cooperate with them. Just act out of self-interest, much smarter option. Just look at the US--there is a lot of hatred, factions and rifts, but they're all in the boat together, exit not much of an option.

  40. I think you are right anon, these warriors of freedom are simply being held at ransom…until all IDPs are resettled. In my mind, the warriors of freedom excludes anyone who killed, raped or displaced any Kenyan from their rightful and lawful residence.

The other reality is that releasing these prisoners effectively ends the careers of many GEMA politicians. What some of you view as bravery in the person of Martha Karua when she confronts and publicly scolds mourning villagers in Sotik, is really a fight for political survival....and relevance.

  42. Hon Karua has been always been adamant that NO ONE will be released or given amnesty and justice will be applied both ways.Which justice is she talking about? It is irritating to find somebody who applies double standards. It is known clearly that PNU crooks like Karua,Kimunya, Saitoti, etc together with kivuitus created all the mess about elections of 2007. They wanted people to just sit and watch. What an incredible situation? We pray God to forgive them for they (PNU) don't know what they are doing. If they are insisting that they must be in leadership, then majimboism should be implemented. I support the feelings of the people. I also blame former president Moi for not allowing democracy to operate. Otherwise, we could be having another leader from other parts of Kenya; not people rotating as if the country cannot do without them. Martha Karua is really a problem and not a solution to kenya's challenges.

  43. I think Martha is about the smartest and most sensible individuals in the cabinet. She wants the law applied both ways--what's the problem with that? I think ODestructionM should realize that people who live in glass houses dont throw stones. That's the emotional thing I was talking about in a post above.

  44. Time off folks,
Phil's thread was about Laboso how it has generated to L-K bashing only god knows. But that said one cannot fail to see the passion in the VITROIL. As somebody asked where was a Luo speaker in the funeral. Again it is all grandstanding.

Ati Nyanza least developed compared to WHERE? Don't tell me Central. The law of averages can be applied so selectively. Majority of multi-millionares come form Mt. Kenya but does that make M-Pesa tycoon? Why at it they espouse individual wealth accumilation (recall Kaggia?) why don't you compare yourself with an opposite equal? Somebody even spewed that Luos make the loudest noise in campus. Well, what is the primary objective of being in campus and do they FAIL it? Jijazie.

    @Kwale
You always hid under CELLULITE FREE skirt but this takes the veil off you face........

....Life is not about how many degrees or masters you have, but it’s about how well you are able to relate to this world and to other people.
I know Luos who like to brag about how good and educated they are, but all this is vanity. Vanity upon vanity all is vanity!

All Luos want is to rule Kenya purely for reasons of vanity and vaulting ambitions. Not because they care or want to improve the nation but for vanity. Flaunty and showy that's what they are.........

the only primitive folks i see are these foolish minds labelling entire communities as primitive here. hatred is not a virtue.

That some kids (essentially fools) take pride in spewing epithets of ethnic hatred at a time when reconciliation is called for, makes me see exactly why 350,000 IDPs and 1500 deaths can be recorded in such a short time.

if a community's young kids think this way, you can predict the future of that kind of society..walking directly into a landmine

you don't throw stones when living in a glass house.

political power is only temporary while communities will coexist into posterity

there is no wealth held by any community or tribe, neither is 'net wealth' static, just what are you individually developing in this dynamic world that is increasingly becoming a global village?

in Uganda, the Baganda were once said to be the most populous, educated and wealthy community

    what happened?....

in iraq, the sunni were once the wealthy oil lords..what happened?

misguided attitudes and deeds of false superiority and derogatory attitude towards others..... slowy turns the rest of the nation, and the world, against you.....thats what causes isolation....

for some kids to jump around in hysteria thinking they have arrived in nirvana because 'our own' is temporarily in power smacks of myopic destructionism.

i think people only isolate themselves by their deeds and attitudes....

All kenyans are in kenya to stay and stereotypes will never impede anyone...kalenjins, luos, luhyas, kikuyus and others..kids grow up and engage in productive stuff

You sound a bitter person by viciously attacking luos and kalenjins. There's no point in responding to your made up mind. However, if reason be given a chance to prevail, Maina Kiai did state clearly that the reason why he opposed the butchering of the mungiki is because Studies has shown that, and I quote, "every time there are extra-judicial executions, and this is in every context all over the world, anything between 33 to 50 percent are innocent people ...so ..when we speak about it, we are especially defending the innocent"

This study may also apply to the case where youths were rounded up indiscriminately in an effort to try those who killed, maimed and burnt houses in the post-election violence. There is a possibility that up-to 50% of innocent youths are languishing miserably in the cells in the name of 'justice'.

From what I know, Kenyans are more intelligent than Martha imagines. Power has really clouded her thinking.

Chances of this 'amnesty' thing going away is nil, nil, nil and gains made on reconciliation (if at all there is any) has been negated by continuous unreasoning from foul mouthed cultureless greedy scoundrels in the name of 'justice'.

Secondly, anyone who have tried walking around the destroyed houses, (and am really sorry for our Kenyan brothers & sisters who underwent that), will realise that destruction was concentrated.

A snap shot at Ugunja, Sigomere, Luanda, Dudi and many other places will tell you that when you border or neighbour someone closely, assimilation is inevitable. The Luos and Luhyas there (for those who foolishly hang on bantus and nilote thing), each of these people have a stake on each other and each side. At any one point when they speak you may never tell who is which tribe til you get to know their names, or Identity cards (where Kenyan system has encouraged tribalism when you even name your clan).

Should there arise a clash on these borders, each person will loose dearly coz they've formed common grounds and continue closing in together.

It is interesting to note that after 40 years (that is since Kenyatta moved his Kikuyu tribe to border Kalenjin tribe), Kikuyus were still far from Kalenjis as far as north is from south. There is no form of assimmilation and percentage stake on either side is negligible. 40 years! Phew!

For every effect, there's a cause. I leave it for skewed minds to defend the cause and condemn the effect.

Many people in Nairobi for example, work together to provide security in their neighborhoods, trash collection, pooled school transportation etc...Many of these neighborhood associations are multi-ethnic, none having assimilated the other. Let's talk about cooperation, on equal terms.

I doubt that in Martha Kariua's mind it is not clear to her that she is taking advantage of closeness to power to just act the goat. She knows what she is doing is wrong....she will be suprieded to find that some of you here think she is justified. She is bullying and enjoying it, it has nothing to do with sense ask her...

Justice working both ways had nothing to do with the funeral period.

If you have a human heart and a little bit of sense you do not argue with grieving people. If you can't have enough sense to figure that out then your so gone you ought to be dead too.

  70. 1- Based on the poison pouring onto this blog, I wonder who the beneficiaries of the mythical "Government of National Unity" are?

2- The beneficiaries are the multinational corporations and their elite Kenyan friends whose businesses suffered during the election turmoil. These people were unable to continue the shipments of their looting from Kenya and neighbouring countries through the port of Mombasa.

3- If the poor people who were shot while looting deserved to die, I wonder why Kenyans and their foreign allies named in the Githongo report are still breathing and doing more damage to Kenyans!! Shouldn't they meet the same fate?

4- If it is true that the laziness and stupidity of the Luo Community have led to the neglect and underdevelopment of Luoland, why is there a resistance to MAJIMBOISM? Please, vampires, stop sinking your fangs deep into the necks of these idiots to draw every cent they have by taxing them to death!!! Stop erecting leech-mobile banks in their neighbourhoods. 71. IVY,

I hope you will take some time off your weekend and just look again at the following words that you have written:

"...Luos and kalenjines are here to stay...They will continue heckling and throwing stones and slaughtering you like chicken!!!! and if you dont like that...GO HANG!!!"

This is the kind of language that can easily lead to genocide. You are gloating at the amount of innocent Kikuyu lives that were wasted by these two tribes. Before you you continue to take pride in your murderous actions look at a brief history of the Kikuyu people and realise that although they are slow to anger and to take up arms they are not cowards. If you can't understand history ask your mzungu British friends to explain it to you. Kikuyus are reluctant warriors, but when they decide to go to war they don't domo domo or throw stones, they just annihilate their enemies.

For now, you may have massacred more Kikuyus and won your gloating rights. But if there were to be round two, you can be 100% sure that the outcome would be different and too demonic to contemplate.

Please, tame your bloodthirstiness. My prayer is that we never get to see Naivasha replayed on a national scale especially in the slums of Nairobi. Please, please, join me in that prayer.

When opening the Equity Bank branch in Bondo he advised them not to take out loans and marry second wives, but instead to take the money and go into business. When an African speaks with such boldness, I am reminded of Joseph Mobutu of Zaire and the rain of terror he dished out to Congolese. I am reminded of who was behind Idi Amin's the rise to power and who kept him there for so long while bodies Africans in Uganda disappeared only to surface in Lake Victoria (if the Nile crocodiles were too full to eat).
How were these two characters able to outsmart their citizens for so long?

Both Mobutu and Amin died of natural causes and there were zero outcry to prosecute them. When you see killers or criminals get assylums in some foreign coutnry, there must be some foreign friends somewhere who reap the benefits from their reigns of terror. Otherwise, you will hear cries, "take them to the Hague"!!

Martha Karua boldness is coming from some foreign friends who stand to benefit from her persuit of neutralizing ODM using any means possible. She will go to all length to stir something that would discredit anybody associated with ODM. Believe me, there will be plenty of "accidental deaths".

It is her mission to defang and neuter ODM using all means at her disposal, and she has the upper hand at the moment! I am afraid ODM is cornered.

When you defang a snake, you ensure that its bite is useless. When you neuter a dog, cat or bull, you want to ensure that it will not have any offsprings that may go after you or your own offsprings. THINK ABOUT THIS!

  79. i dont get it

those mourners heckled martha karua on her stance on amnesty. it was not kibaki or kikuyu being heckled. similarly if kivuitu is heckled its him the man not kambas. ditto RAO, mudavadi etc.

those guys twisting events to reflect communities are nothing more than ethnic chauvinists.

karua went in her capacity as cabinet colleague, and unfortunately she is not popular in that part of the country. she needs to revamp her PR skills after all she is now the leader of Narc-K and has to learn to reach out beyond wherever Narc-K reaches.

i also agree with the few above who know that riches and poverty are distributed across the country with the few rich guys (less than 10%) all over the place and you guessed right, the rich and generally speaking achievers rarely blow their own trumpets in forums like this, its the wannabes and failures who typically try to sooth their egos for failing to attain some goal by claiming to be from the same tribe/village/family/clan/region/country etc as those "succesful" ones. As Ivy puts it, its therapeutical cant argue with that. There are even people who claim to be Pattni's casino/gambling buddies. This is known as measuring your own success or potential by association. somehow there are people convinced that they can elevate their self importance through real or perceived association with another entity. But even more absurd is the number of people joining the free for all than ensues thereafter. Come on people lets grow up.

lets point at injustices, corruption, ineptitude, bigotry, ethnic chauvinism, and all other social and professional evils bedeviling Kenya and help put in place structures to stop the rot.

"Most of the problems the region faces arise from absence of serious political leadership. We want to build a party that people will join because of its policies and not just because a tribal chieftain is the leader."

the complete text can be found in this EA Standard article

We should not pay attention to some of these bloggers who are just out to cause confusion. More than 90% of kenyans are struggling with the same issues of school fees, food, gainful employment (self or formal), extended family, sickness and poor government services.

And just to be clear about shoddy services, if before you can get service, you either have to toa kitu or talk in an ethnic language that tickles the person on the other side of the desk, then irrespective of outcome, you have just received shoddy service devoid of professionalism. Now that's my stand. To all you ethnic chauvinists out there, there is nothing wrong with your tribe whatever it is, but it becomes a problem if it gets in the way of provision and receipt of services as well as the butt of jokes, scorn, hate or other type of malice and hyped, souped up and typically exaggerated or feigned superiority

At the end of it all, we are all just struggling to either make ends meet or make our lives and those of our (current or future) loved ones more comfortable and the environment we live in more accommodating.

God forbid in years to come when Kenya has burned and the international community is looking for those who may have influenced or fanned the flames of hatred. Your words here will be used to hang you at the Hague. YOU ARE NOT ANONYMOUS! Think about that & try to be more objective in your posts for posterity's sake.
That being said, may we all pray to God that he may truly cleanse us of all this hatred toward one another. May he renew the spirit of nationalism in all Kenyans. Let us come together in One Love so we may prosper is all areas of our lives. This weekend, let us all reflect on this and let go and let God. Sadly, our country's bleeding heart leaves us no option.
As for Chris, I wish you well in these challenging times. May you find your way back to why you went into blogging in the first place.
Have a great weekend won't you?

  83. Martha Karua can not keep provoking people with talk on 'justice'. Selective Justice is going to lead into serious problems. She and the hardliners should be languishing in jails for causing the deaths of over 3,000 Kenyans using Mungiki and government machinery to kill innocent people. Its so funny hon. Wetangula was criticising Zimbabwe?

  84. @2:06. You dont deserve that responsibility. You're just as corrupt and incompetent as all your tribesmen that came before and likely after you. Why dont you just fire them--we see how far you'll get? What are you waiting for? FIRE THEM!!

  86. Some people are wondering why Kaloozer was not heckled and why Karua was? She was the architect of the TOPPING UP on December 29th! She was the stumbling block to the peace accord being brokered by Kofi Annan! She is among those who has kept these youths in the cells without any charges... Over 5000 youth "suspected" to have committed crimes that are yet to be established and investigated. So these 5000 youth killed the 1500 people who died during the chaos? What about the victims who were shot by police? All those bodies in Kisumu morgues (90%) had bullet wounds (Before you start screaming - data is available). How many policemen are behind bars pending investigations? Six months later and no evidence has been produced against the youth because there is none. All they want is to kill and maim more innocent Kenyans like the Mt. Elgon military operation.

The end is near for the likes of Karua who think that Kenya belongs to them and them alone. Kenyans have a right to demand justice. Karua and others cannot wish this problem away because it will not go away. What goes round comes around for sure.

Kivuitu & Co. broke the law and they have to be brought to book. Kifaki must face the law for illegally swearing himself in as commander in chief - oops! commander in thief - in the twilight hours where even the national anthem was dismissed as irrelevant. Charge sheets must be brought against all these individuals otherwise, those being held without any tangible evidence must be released for peace to prevail in this country.

Anon @ 5.34 you are wondering why Raila went to Nyeri and was not booed? Raila has wronged no-one and he is the one person who can go to any corner of Kenya and will never be booed... unlike your panua comrades who have to restrict their movements to central lesotho and certain parts of nairobi.

You claim to be "successful and industrious"? Makes me wonder where all those POOR & JIGGER INFESTED relatives of yours come from. And the slums in the backyard of the commander-in-thief? Successful and industrious my foot! Murderers and jailbirds filling the jails even of neighbouring countries... shame on you! All Kenyans are suffering because of poor leadership and greed from our politicians. That is the bottom line. RID YOUR PROVINCE OF POVERTY AND DISEASE, then shout for all the world to hear about your "successful and industrious" ways. HYPOCRITES!

We have another "karuagirl" showing her ndururu's worth of comments. How pathetic!

M-PESA - it is true that Nyanza is the poorest according to UNDP's latest reports. Poorer than arid North-Eastern! Reason being that since independence marginalisation has been perfected by the various regimes. All the fish processing plants were built in central province - the fish are transported there, then processed and exported. The cotton industry was killed and laid to rest in the mid seventies. The sugar industry is being undermined and you know how. This is why MAJIMBO gained popularity during the electiion campaigns. MAJIMBO is the only way to ensure equal distribution of resources for the whole country.

WHAT DOES HECKLING OF MARTHA KARUA IN RV TO DO WITH THE LUOS AND KIKUYU WEALTH? WHAT DOES THE HECKLING TO DO WITH THE WIDER KALENJIN COMMUNITY. SOME PEOPLE HERE SHOULD GROW UP. WE NEED ONE KENYA NOT TWO OR MORE.
WHAT IS WEALTH? WAIT UNTIL YOU ASK ONE MOBUTU, ONE EARTHQUAKE, ONE CIVIL WAR! WE WILL SEE WHAT REMAINS AFTER YOUR HATE POSTINGS TURN TO WAR.

  88. Anon 10:07, Read my comments well and before you do that read the comments of Anon 5:34...Then after that you can still ask me to join you in prayer....I was just quoting his comments coz that is the way you folks decide to describe luos and kales. Anything else?

To make your work easier...these were his comments "I wonder why they never heckled VP Kalonzo Musyoka like they did to Martha Karua. Kelenjins and Luos are two tribes in Kenya that remain primitive in modern world. The only method they know of expressing their disapproval of other communities is heckling, stoning and slaughtering them like condemned chicken. That is a primitive culture they have refused to let go" ...Leta ingine and have yourself a nice day and try as much as possible not to have selective amnesia

  89. I am appalled and shocked by the childish and juvenille treatment accorded to the Justice and Constitutional Minister Martha Karua at the burial of assistant minister Lorna Laboso. This was neither the occassion nor the place to exhibit such vile behaviour. Where is the respect to the lady Lorna? The matters were not helped for Karua by the crazy Kamba woman Ngilu who brought the amnesty issue to fuel the fire and worsen the situation. When people are in mourning the last thing they need is a stupid woman like Ngilu making reckless remarks enough to ignite a riot. Should anything bad had happened to hon Karua, Ngilu should have been held responsible. Remember Karua was amidst Kale murderers who swore to kill all Kikuyus.

Just last weekend Raila was given a heroes welcome in of all places Nyeri and people listened attentively. People of Central province and Kikuyus in General know how to behave, that here was Raila, a killer and a man who masterminded crimes against andu a nyuba, but still Nyerians made him feel at home. Shame on Kales, they should grow up. And they have the nerve to call us Kikuyus tribalists.

  90. I can see a lie that some Kikuyu's are trying to peddle here as the truth: Ati Kikuyu's are enterprising, successful, hardworking and industrious.

Nothing could be further from the truth. These people and first class THIEVES, FRAUDSTERS, CONMEN (and WOMEN), PROSTITUTES, CARJACKERS ... generally people (or is it animals?) who "success" depends on them breaking the law.

This Pumabavu mix of primitive attitudes and behaviours is present in both the young Kikuyu's and the old Kikuyu's - Just look at how Kibaki STOLE the last elections. These people are THIEVES! Wawache kutuletea uongo. Ati hardworking, enterprising...PUMPAFF!!!

  91. By the way, The kikuyus have no elders worthy anymore. That's is why they had to go all the way to Nyanza to look for one.How about that!.For Kalenjins it is a separate issue. We have something in common with luos. And even if they tried to behave, It is not genuine guys.kikuyus are upto no good. They were pretending because they know that sooner or later Raila will be sitting in the high throne. The only person who will unite Kenyans is Raila Odinga! Get it in your minds. If you have in the house who is good, just know they are acting. These guys have no moral standards whatsoever.Period.

UrXlnc, you're asking too much of this blog. There are other forums that tackle ISSUES--if you care to look.
Minus the threats and unbecoming language, KKs hot air does one thing for me: leaves me under no illusion that Kenya is in huge shit (to borrow of the rather colorful language here).
