Is It Too Late For Kenya To Heal?

There is an often-told tale about a man with tattered clothes who was found dead in some Nairobi estate. Judging from the clothes the deceased wore and the fact that his body had obviously not seen cleansing water for a long, long, time it was easy to assume that he was one of the desperate folks who walk around city estates begging and scrounging to survive.

But an astounding find caused the thinking here to dramatically change. Carefully sewn on the insides of his shirt was Kshs 50,000—a princely sum in those days. Amazingly the post mortem showed that the poor guy had died from some complications caused by malnutrition. So why hadn’t he taken a measly Kshs 20 from his Kshs 50,000, which was the cost of a decent helping of French fries in those days, and saved his own life? The answer for those who understand the principals of wealth accumulation is simple. Taking out Kshs 20 would have meant that they no longer had 50,000 but now had 49,980 and to make matters worse, maybe they would have felt an urge for a soft drink after that. The point is that wealth is not accumulated by spending. Instead it is obtained by an individual making sacrifices.

Another more fortunate soul collapsed and was rushed to hospital where on examination doctors ordered some milk and the guy quickly came to and discovered that his hidden treasure of about Kshs 80,000 (which incidentally had been very well hidden) was missing.

Both these two gentlemen belonged to the Kikuyu community and what I have just described easily illustrates the great sacrifices which these beloved Kenyans often take to accumulate their wealth. The truth is that it is mostly never by accident or by virtue of some special priviledge or advantages as many Kenyans seem to think. This is not to say that there are no evil Kikuyus. They are very much there just as you will expect to find them in every other community in the country.

Now just imagine how a hard working Kenyan who has given so much sacrifice would feel if somebody said that they had made their wealth by unfair means? Or try and think for a moment about a now successful son who saw as a child or has heard of the struggle that the father has gone through to reach where he is. That son would not take kindly to any general sweeping statements about his community having accumulated wealth through dubious means.

This should be food for thought for many Kenyans just now.

But the same community also needs to be sensitive to the feelings of other Kenyans who do not belong to the house of Mumbi. They must realize that the clients and customers for their businesses are other Kenyans who are different from them and with different abilities, which does not mean that they are inferior or less intelligent in any way.

This can easily be the basis where our beloved nation, torn apart by the tribal demon can start to heal. Every Kenyan must urgently reach out to Kenyans on the other side of the rapidly widening chasm that must be a cause of great concern to everybody.

But instead what we are seeing is a deliberate effort by both sides to outsmart the other at all costs. All eyes are firmly fixed on 2012 or whenever it is that the next general elections will be.

What all Kenyans of goodwill need to urgently do now is to tell those hyenas who call themselves our leaders to tuliza boli (that means slow down the ball). There are times when the interests of a nation must go beyond politics and clearly this is such a time for Kenya. We have only recently seen what happens to the politics when what retired president Moi would call “cohesion of Kenyans” has not been sorted out.

Badly needed now before we can even try to go back into competitive politics is national healing and reconciliation. We as Kenyans must reach out to one another and empathize with each other before anything else. When this happens it will become clear how badly we need a nationwide truth and reconciliation initiative to address all the past injustices suffered by all Kenyans. Incidentally this is an idea that I have strongly advocated for here in Kumekucha since inception and long before the chaos we saw recently after the disputed elections.

Admittedly this will not be easy but we really do not have too many options left.

The comments area of this blog has often been said to reflect the true feeling on the ground on many issues and indeed this is the reason why so many wily operators have used this blog to gauge public opinion with various personal and mostly selfish interests in mind. In my raw notes this week I list some of these groups of people and how they use this blog to achieve their different objectives. The list will shock anybody, to say the least.

If it is true that the comments section in Kumekucha mirrors Kenya on the ground, then clearly we are in serious trouble and we must all come back to our senses before it is too late.

By the way, are you safe Kumekucha? I hear rumours that you are still in danger. Anything your die-hard fans can do to help?

  3. In 2002 we had a brave experiment by electing Emilio probably the greatest show of willingness to come together since 1963......we were abused for the next five yrs....Kibz surrounded himself with the most arrogant retards that have ever walked planet earth.......

show me your friends and I will show you your character...

Its going to take while...... politicians like kalooser are being given a lot of prominence yet he is the type of person who is only relevant in a divided kenya.....calling RAO unelectable owing to tribe......

Kalooser is charlatan but since the house of mumbi must have thier guy at all times they are willing to muddy the political waters of kenya with non-unifiers like kalooser...

There is a mentality that getting to the highest political office in kenya is not about service delivery but its about manipulation of gava systems and tribal maths and a good dose of rigging.....that mentality is not about to go away....

Kenyans are still bitter at the rape that took place in 2007 elections and with things like some tribes prisoners being favoured sad but there is no hope....at this rate....

It looks like its going to get worse before it gets better.....

We are far better of in our jimbos at the end of the day.....even if every jimbo becomes a country on its own.

Personaly I Think the call for unity is overrated we can have viable countries that just belong to single tribes and then we choose to intergrate with the tribes that are willingto work together on known terms as and when they are ready to....instead of being cobbled up with people who have think the are better than you..

  4. Chris,

You might as well add me on the list if I am not on it already.

This is the first time since I stumbled on your blog two months ago have seen you write something constructive. You have repeatedly continued to speculate over alleged stolen election not knowing you are fomenting emotions to some deluded people. You cannot play with people emotions in order to test what is going on the ground. Morally wrong!

Instead why do you use this blog to inspire people to be like Barack Obama? You know, like to go to space and make discoveries there, go to moon and emulate Neil Armstrong by becoming first African to the moon, or invent the next big thing or even find a cure or vaccine for AIDS. Why wait for a white man to find cure for an “African disease”?

What I am saying is, if God has blessed you with this ‘wonderful’ blog, why not use it to bless others; instead you continue to afflict them with despair, depression and hypertensions over ‘stolen election’ that happened last year.

  5. Ah, Kwale has gone through baptism by fire...Your comments are not as bad as they were congratulations...Just a Thought!!!!
It is not late for Kenya to heal, if only we become positive in our thinking. I hoped that in one of your posts you were going to comment on the inflation rate...Police beating up citizens just by the mere fact that they went to the streets to complain about the high cost of living.
That to me it is a priority than some people who are aligning and realigning themselves for 2012 elections who is even guaranteeing them that they would be alive then.....Imagine for every litre you buy of fuel 30/= goes to this corrupt gava. If they were really sincere they would even reduce it to 25/= and from that small gesture the price of essential commodities will start dropping down. For example went to the supermarket yesterday and i was happy that the price of sugar has gone down with about 5/= that is a step to the right direction.
We have a vision 20-30 that thing the few pages i have read it is not realistic at all, so let me wait for the final document that will be released by the 3 parties in the coalition.
The minister for Nairobi Metropolitan took a chopper to fly round Nairobi, i am waiting to hear what it is that he really achieved.....or according to Kwamchetsi is planning to decongest the traffic by allowing nairobians to use choppers instead of matatus?
We need to move away from this mentality that we would only develop when one of us is at the top.
Then the regime should ensure equitable distribuion of resources to every region...Put all us at the same level and let us begin the race but i would n't mind NEP getting 25% for starters those guys have been marginalised for a long time.
But one thing i know give us space and we will definately grow and heal.

  7. For any group of people to do anything as a group they need leaders......we seem to pay little attention on who our leaders are and yet we wonder why as a people we are going nowhere......

We have held a vey erronous notion that wanaacnhi will do it....social engineering is too complicated to run without guidance anyone can highjack it like the way mungiki has been missused by others....

The solution is and has always been getting the righ people first, people with the credentials the suporting them.

We have tried to work it out on our own for the last 45yrs....look where it got us....One Emilio and a few thugs and kenya down the drain in tribal hatrade....

Now we want ot reinvent the wheel by trying to do it again without getting the right leaders.......
just read std and Kalooser is busy telling the people of wajir that in effect what PM says is to be ignored I thought this was a coalition and all development was from the same gava.....cheap politicking some just can't wait to have him as their president.....and you think there is hope sorry but I don'thave as much faith..

  8. Chris, I am surprised even after six months after the General elections ended ( with the defeat of raila odinga, as i had predicted) you are still publishing tribal garbage. Peace shall never come to kenya until your think alike and their filthy kihii leader are given their own kingdom to practice their primitive fishing culture. yes, let jaluo nyanza become an independent republic. I wish to remind your leaders that Kenya has a President who is also the commander in chief of the armed forces!! His name is HE President Mwai Kibaki. His principal assistant and heir is HE Kalonzo!! The PM kihii and his murderous kalenjin goatherds shall never rule Kenya. Kioko, BC,

You are at you element best in selectively chosing what suits your fancy. Know what? Kenyans are no fools and the MOVE ON mentality is a tired line, leta ingine. While I respect your affinity to the holy book, please keep its interpretation to yourself. It is a complex book and your scratch may only serve your personal interest.

Ati now you praise Chris for being objective only when you chose to read what you want to hear. Well, indulge in your fantacies of flying. BTW I am yet to know anybody who can walk from Kenya to the shores of the Mediterenean. Reminds me on reving in juvenile fantacies akin to lip driving of toys.

If you are comfortable with the status quo good luck. Leave the difficult task of examining the rot to the determined. Enjoy the Paris summer. Meanwhile don't try to distract those fighting DECPTION and FRAUD. You can fly to Georgia and move on, won't you? Your sermons are akin to street preachers (fleecers) who gloss over reality with eyes sinularly trained on the congrations' pockets. The DNA betrays you bro, no chance.

  11. Maybe this might be helpful to know that following a request to Amnesty International to take up the case of those people who it is claimed are being held illegally after protesting a stolen election the organisation refused and explained that it is its policy never to represent or advocate on behalf of any individual who has chossen to advocate violence to persue a political goal, they further explained and gave the example of the Ukraine where following a disputed election people came out peacefully and protested peacefully. If a similar thing had happened in Kenya and women and children, old men and women had all come out to protest the flawed election, maybe the argument that it was a political demonstration could hold water, why is it only young male youths that felt they had been disenfranchised. Why were they burning and looting instead of protesting peacefully. It is sad that people would wish to advocate for release criminal youths for hire, the argument should not be for amnesty but accountability accross the board, if two people commit a crime since you only catch one suspect should you argue that he should be set free because the other is not in custody, I am sorry no you should arguing that all those involved should be held accountable. If you are the one caught stealing fruit from the tree it is no defence to say that others have stolen therefore you should not be held culpable, sorry you were caught and have to face the music, so that next time it will not happen. So in the search of accountability it would be better if those people that claim to have evidence of this and that wrong doing to table it so that those responsible can be held to account John Githongo never had to go to a court of law but he presented his case through other methods and all those with information that can hold and is not pure rumour should do the same in fact it is your duty to do so if not then it would be best to keep quite and move on, and join the ranks of all those other cowards that have gone before hand. Therefore the onus is on all of you out there that claim to have irrefutable evidence that this and that happened to make it availble even if you do not trust the kenyan system go to a journalist, your congress man or post it on the web but it should be factual that can hold up in court much like the Githongo dossier and not mere bar room rumour

  12. You have after a long time Chris spewed a good post. Its not too late to heal, this country can even heal today. But Kenyas major problem is the follwing:

    1. Selfish political leadership bent on personal survival and angradisement. Let meput to you that Kibaki and Raila are not the leaders that Kenya needs. Neither does kenya need ruto or karua or balala. These people most of you call leaders are so myopic. My major problem is that a country's leadership is a refelction of its people.

    2. The elite of Kenya are a big disgrace. You dont have to go far, just check the cream of Kenya in this blog. These are guys that the society called kENYA with all its poverty have sacrificed to educate and provide health too, no matter how poor it is. The government struggled to make sure child mortality did not grab then at the age of below 5. But look at their outputs to kenya - hate and more hate. The cream of Kenya as can be seen by the good english and sometimes very informed posts - but all what they deliver is " am poor because of the kikuyu, i have no land because of this, am renting an apartment because of.., am not driving because of..., i have no twins because of...? etc. This is how parochial and mediocre the elite of kenya have become.

    3. The third tragedy is - when they go to the rural areas, they are listened to. They come from Nairobi, boston or london - and the poor rural villager is told he is poor becuase this tribe has made him poor. Why i wonder we do not blame all the indians, large landowners, industrialists with all the big businesses and cartel kind of operations. They are good guys yet they have raped the country. Our poverty is brought by my poor neighbour who also sleeps hungry- and takes ages to save 50,000 to the point of death to buy that small plot or that cow. What a contradiction.

    4. Fellow kenyans, the day we shall look inwardly and ask ourselves what have i as a person done to heal kenya, what have i done to reach to my neighbour and teh day we shall realise what we have in common is poverty - and teh only two tribes in kenya are the rich sly politicians and the poor - thats the day healing shall pour like rain in Kenya.

    5. Unfortunately poverty knows no tribe. The worst poverty i have ever experienced is hunger. Its demeaning and beats hard. But one thing i know for sure our politicians whom we sing here about till cows come home - do not know today how we cannot save a shilling as all is in consumption. They were born with a golden spoon and will die with one. They dont know poverty, Them they are able to hire choppers, call for parties, get millions a month etc for enjoying being driven with mercedes benz and four wheel drives cars that add misery to Kenyans. Right now their fuel consumption is millions and millions yet kenyans are dying of hunger and lack of medicine. All what i see in this blog - is applauding the number of security staff kibaki has, raila, kalonzo, deputy ministers, ministers etc. Dont you realise this is teh causwe of our poverty?

    6. We have in the governemnt the best political leaders kenyans have had if the comments from this blog is anything to go by. You can imagine the visions of raila, kibaki, kalonzo, uhuru, mudavadi etc combined. If only they could work for Kenya - this country would be heaven. But believe you me brothers and sisters, Kenya is in for a big shock. These guys work for their stomach and kin and kith - we may end up having anegative growth and political infighting than any other time in our political history. These guys will not deliver - they will spend their time outsmarting eachother at the expense of fellow poor folks. Politics for 5 years. Otherwise how do you expect some very clear issue as amnesty to keep on occupying their minds. Dont they know what is needed to be done? If they cannot handle a clear issue like amnesty - how will they handle the more serious social econmic challneges confronting kenya today.

I hate our sly politicians and in an equal measure their choir masters who spend their day in this blog discussing their virtues. You are the problem kenya cannot heal, you are the problem 45 years after independence we are a hungry nation. I rest my case.

  13. I wish to tell Chris and his like-minded tribal bloggers that their persistent bashing of the Kikuyus and other communities in the Mt Kenya region over real and imaginary evils is just a futile exercise that will not add any extra grain in their plate.

Living up to the policy of this blog, Chris and his bloggers (mostly Luos) have made it their pass-time duty to demonise the Kikuyus and other GEMA communities for reasons best know to them. Your articles always project Raila like a semi-god and Kibaki and Gema communities in very bad light. Raila and his ODM brigade played a dangerous tribal card last year inciting other communities to kill members of the Kikuyu community for reasons they don’t know. Just like Raila and his ODM gang, Chris continued to fuel the fire while cheering the massacre of Kikuyus. Shame on you all.

Chris should be ashamed to have written this article. Why do you talk of national healing and reconciliation now? Haven’t you spent all your energy demonizing Kikuyus? What have you achieved? Your articles and comments from bloggers who have cheap tribal minds like you are pure raw hatred directed at members of the Kikuyu community over your imagined evils. If you are a professional journalist, you would not be preaching tribalism and raw hatred disguised as journalism.

Kikuyus and other Gema communities owe you and you like-minded bloggers no apology over your persistent hallucinations against the community. If you are driven by jealous that Kikuyus control Kenya’s wealth, they are enterprising and hardworking, the only alternative left for you is to work hard. Verbal diarrhea, persistent moaning and whining will not solve your poverty and problems. To the contrary, you’ll accelerate your departure from this world and you’ll die a very desperate and miserable lot.

Preach nationalism and not cheap tribalism that serves you no purpose. Kikuyus are in Kenya to stay. You don’t like it? Take a rope and hang yourself.

  14. I must be living in a very different kenya from the one I see described here, personaly I have never met anyone who preaches kikuyu hate or who partuculary hate kuyos for just bieng kuyo......clearly the kuyos have overated themsleves

......and supposed importance....please quit this cry baby nonsense its shameful and degrading unless you want to use it for asylum purposes in europe.....then organise it well so we can help you.....

get over yourselves.....your politicians needed to galvanise your vote and the played to your unjustifiabe fears, now wake up, the election is over you lost move on......who are you crying to.....?

evry tribe in this country can make case of bieng hated by other tribes....kambaas are not popular for voting for the thief you don't see them going around crying..'they don't like us they want to finish us....'

I hope I don't have to repeat this again....in 2002 ALL KENYANS VOTED A KIKUYU for president and were happy to do so...Qs What changed after that?......you know the answer to that so just stop crying we need less babies we have a nation to build.....your giving us too much work already...

  15. sir Alex who lost and who has to move on clearly it is you. You contradict yourself when you tell people they have to move on then go on to say ' those who voted for the thief' is a person a thief just because you say so, do you similarly advocate mob justice at the expense of the rule of law. Do you believe in the notion of innocent until proven guilty. If so then prove it six months of just idle rumour and heresay is both nausiating and a sign of some who is caught up in the past, so take your own advise and move on.

Welcome back! The Swiss-Austria football fest is not my kind of party. I am more of a club person. Taabu, I also leave you to worry about CR. I will point out to you that is the problem that comes with depending on one player!

Chris this is an excellent article. But, I will tell you that hope is a sentiment wasted on Kenyans. We are going down the drain. We are a banana republic and nothing good is going to pass our way until we change a few things.
The first thing I we need to change is the constitution and reduce presidential powers. As long as the power lies at statehouse lets not kid ourselves that everything will be alright. Our problems are complex, they require a multi-faceted solution but constitution change is the way forward.

  18. Kenyans can smell scheming PREACHERS aka move on miles away. They foam at the mouth permuting handful of long-lettered words with eyes closed but the intention? Well jijazie.

You know you are in the company of a scoundrel and a schemer who sounds objective and cheers you on when you are doing his bidding and he takes exclusive credit. Differ and the saint turns to Lucifer overnight.

The few who stand up to bullies are often rediculed - just ask Kaggia on Jomo. First it was projected as a single tribe againt industry and now they are apparently driven by jealous since the SPECIAL tribe control Kenya’s wealth. Well, serial denial never caused constipation, indulge. Deception in disguise and spiced with fraud.

Ask yourself why such tasks that demand time and hardwork like Athletics, soccer and academics is not yours exclusively. Move on yes but not leaving our backs for you to rape, never.

  19. No Ivy some people just need to shut up..........

This blog is not about kuyo hate....they just keep sneaking it in....thinking everthing revovles around them......

Agreeing with RAo is termed hero worship......Demonising RAO is the order of the day......I wil be the first to concede that RAo has his failings and the should be said but blanket dismisal and outrigh lies are uncalled for...

On the other hand Kibz had a full term and his record is complete we can give a acurate score.

The only real battle that kikuyu can claim is the land issue in rift valley where kales and kuyos have a complicated problem it not about hate its about fighting over land......

Besides that all others are election excitement not any different from what you would see in any battle between fans of rival soccer teams so passion madness and over excitement is expected....don't make too much of it.....

  20. I agree with Sir Alex, not everything is about kuyos, look at anonymous 4.51, when did Chris make Raila a semi-god, to the best of my knowledge Chris doesn't even like Raila that much, moreover he is always the first to say when Raila does something wrong unlike some other contributors here.

Everything is just about kikuyus here, you think we have nothing better to do than talk about you all day? This post is talking about healing the nation someone came here with cries of kikuyus being demonised. Members of your kikuyu community are not demonised for nothing, live with it ama go cry elsewhere, they are thieves, robbers are arrogant and very corrupt. Iko swali ingine? Foolish people!

  21. 5 years is a short time.

the disaffection needs to be healed sooner rather than later. if no effort is made, then in 2012, lets not pretend to be surprised as we hammer the final nail on the coffin to the country once called kenya and split it into the different regional or tribal fragments no amount of intimidation or force will stop that catastrophe. its time to really look at the future and reflect on whether we prefer to associate across the country borders or internally, whether we want our children and their children, to live together as one within kenya or to be stateless out there somewhere. but this is asking for too much considering kenyans are averse to planning anything beyond breakfast with everything else subject to rather too many ifs (things can go wrong just as you step out of the house e.g matatu strike, mungiki menace, poly/uni students on rampage) with increased impunity, inflation and hardships, these are going to be the norm.

And by the way have not heard any snakes being rattled, any news on that fellow, he's been rather quiet of late.

    ReplyDelete
  22. This is what I get from this post: the "problem" with kenya is the misconception that other Kenyans have about hard working Kikuyus who for the most part have had to sacrifice a lot to get to where they are.

The solution, you say, is for the kikuyus to be "sensitive" to how other Kenyans feel, since part of this success comes from the other tribes patronizing their businesses too.

For the sake of moving forward and not getting stuck in abstracts, tell us how exactly that Kikuyu who is foregoing the finer things in life (which a Luo brother readily indulges in) to make himself richer, is supposed to act so that other tribes can know that he is "sensitive" to them?

And how does this "insensitivity" manifest itself, even? In the case of the tattered man found dead with wads of notes, how could he have conceivably shown "insensitivity" brought about by his industriousness? By flaunting his wealth? Obviously not...he died in rags and venturing into streotypes since this is what the post is premised upon, shouldn't the Luo with the gas guzzling hummer be the one who is easily seen as being insensitive?

Restrict your answers to the case of the dead Kikuyu alluded to earlier; give instances in which he could have shown sensitivity to other tribes and hence saved a lot of his tribepeople from what happened in Rift Valley.

    ReplyDelete
  23. There has been a misconception that Kyuk's are hated by other Kenyan tribes. What we do not like about you kyuk's is your collective mix of negative attitudes and behaviors. These can be summed up as: DECEPTION, FRAUD, SUPER GREED, and a culture of STEALING/THEFT and then using DECEPTION and FRAUD to try to pass of these traits as evidence of being "enterprising" and/or "smart." Sorry, this will not wash.

Have you ever asked yourselves this question: If Kyuk's are really business savvy, how come is it that they seem to "excel" in the following "professions" in Kenya: STEALING, FRAUD, PROSTITUTION, CAR JACKING, EXTORTION, FORGERIES etc?

Clearly something is wrong. Another irony about this whole thing is that Kikuyu's are usually the biggest victims of their own bad manners. You doubt me? One example: Just look at how the mungiki thugs were behaving - chopping off their own fellow kikuyu's necks and the extortion they carried out on their fellow kikuyu's (The matatu's etc). I could give many more examples but time does not allow me.

  24. Anon 7:04 what happened was an incident not an attitude.

Nobody is saying that kukuyu way of relating to thier hard earned money is less superior to the way say a kambaa handles his money...

my primo history teacher a kamba used to tell us amusing jokes that kikuyu made about kamabaa we all laughed heartily and enjoyed out class 5 history lesson.

The nonsense about kenyans hate kuyos for bieng industrious was an election campaign tool and I suspect it helped some sly guys get political asylum in europe....

In other words it did not even exists. THATS THE TRUTH and it still does not exist....most kenyans don't even know who owns what in their own country and don't care though they should.

I know a number of people who have married kuyo ladies for just that, their supposed industry these are kisii, luo luyha at least the ones I know personaly so where is this hate story coming fom?

The insesitivity and excitement came from the Kibz presidency.....like I have said before after all tribes coming together to derail project uhuru with our captain Emelio he goes and starts a 'kukuyu nation'....that sir is the source of any hate you may experience.

Before even the MOU noise started a kikuyu friend told me how they the kikuyu are organising to run kenya as their own thing I stopped celebrating our victory cause it began to dawn on me that I was used to father some other tribes agenda....that is where the rain started hitting us.....

I was given a detailed plan how the media would be controled, the armed forces was to be organised the judiciary the whole works.ya and how to deal with RAO..and the aftermath of that.....I was shocked and was in denail untill I started seeing it unravel before my very eyes...

....there was no development plan thats why Emelio original refused the CDF when it was first floated this guys were readying for war....WAY BEFORE EVEN THE MOU Noise started

Long story short there was a devious plan and it came a cropper......Its not hate, somebody sold the kikuyu a bad plan, they bought into it, they got caught now they are trying to use nonesensical petty sterotypical crap we have lived with all our lives without killing each other infact marrying each other quite happily.....

In my view the Hate thing is just a red herring to make themselves look like the victims while all the while they were the agressors.

But obviously he prefers to go underground, so I ask you - my Kumekucha friends - to give us a clue of what had gone on or better, what made Chris decide to publish 'Kumekucha on the run' since after this he kept us in the dark and only comes out once in a while to publish some posts here - I guess from a far-away hideout somwhere in the West (and as I was told without Mrs. Kumekucha whom he decided to leave behind together with their children). And just in case, you doubt this: He had sent some emails to friends of his before (pretending?) to leave Kenya confirming that he would 'come alone since he had decided that his family is safe to stay behind'.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Anon (.24 AM - I am sure, your comment will be deleted by the 'author of this blog' as soon as he reads it. But let me assure you that before erasing it, many people including me have read it and know that you told us the truth: this whole 'Kumekucha on the run' was just a big cheat and knowing now that Chris was leaving his family behind only confirms this. If he would have been in danger like he tried to tell us, he would also make sure that his family (Mrs. Kumekucha as he called his Kikuyu-wife in many of his posts and also his children of whom he spoke with much (pretended?) love in some other posts) would be safe because if he would be in (real) danger, also his family would be. Don't you agree?
But in leaving his family 'behind' as he has put it in his emails to friends, he has shown 'his other side of the coin': a man only interested in raising attention, no matter how. Even if it means using (or leaving behind?) the rest of his family, even if it is true that they could be in danger!!!!!!!!

Does this show the true character of a man? I guess, you all agree with me that it does - a man who tries to show us 'the road of development and truth', a man who was riding high on our hopes for a better Kenya, a man who has used us - you and as I have to admit also me.

But enough is enough - we have been used many times in the past, but not anymore. We have grown, we have learnt and we are able to see behind those soothing words distributed here.

    Don't you think so?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Anon 8:45 AM - I can confirm all of what you say. I got copies of those emails in which the Kumekucha Chris is talking about the real reasons why he wants to leave Kenya (since he cannot even open a Paypal account and talking about the fact that some of his important clients do not feel safe to deal with somebody based in Africa) - with no word does he mention that he is in danger and that's also supported by the fact that he decided to leave his family behind (as he said, his wife is living in a very comfortable place and it is important that his children finish school in Kenya).

Does this sound like a man 'on the run' ?

    Does it ????????????????

  29. Chris your post started well but then it was blinded by the word "Kikuyu" when u described the characters tribes. Couldnt this have happened say to a Chuti, a Jang'o, or any other person?

Now with what you have said, please tell me how the Kilgoris by election will proceed.

If you have heard what those leaders are saying, you will surely know that tribalism is very big.

The Maasai have threatened to kick out the "immigrants" because they are "abusing" and "threatening" to take "their" seat? Isnt this the same thing that happened in RV? Are the Maasai not feeling the neighbourly tendencies of the Kipsigis in Kilgoris constituency?

  30. sir Alex,

Kikuyus are inventing a myth about being hated so as to elicit sympathy? There must have been a lot of non-hate interactions going on in Helldoret then or is it strange love? They were loved out of fleeing from their homes into tented squalor, right? The love was so strong, it ignited a church and burnt women and children.

Also, I hope you are not a coward and come back to respond to this question: since as you argue, the "non-hate" being directed towards Kikuyus is as a result of Kibaki's betrayal of the hopes of Kenyans after voting for him unanimously and defeating project Uhuru, how does the Kalenjin's demonic upraising against Kikuyus factor in? THEY WERE PROJECT UHURU, remember? It is them that were defeated in 2002. So what is this "Unity" that you talk about that was betrayed?

  31. Anon 8:56 AM - I too have received copies of those mails and I must tell you, I was shocked to learn that Kumekucha has cheated all of us in trying to tell us that he was on the run because of some devious plans against his existance - when the truth was (in accordance with his own words) was baed on the fact that he saw his business in danger when continueing being in Kenya - so for his prospective clients (as he has put it in his mails) he had to take residence outside Kenya, leaving his family behind since he felt that they were safe living in a very comfortable place).

But I - like many others to whom I spoke during the last days - think that this is just a cover-up. Chris is still living in Kenya (maybe in his new house in Kakamega of which he told us in one of his last posts) - maybe still in Mombasa where he lived all these last years .... (and just in case you doubt this, I can give you the exact address)...

In other words, unless Chris tells us - and that means to all Kumekuchans and not only to the ones subscribing (and paying 15 $) - what has really happened and not just some phantasy story, we will continue doubting his credibility as a man, as Kumekucha and mainly as a responsible Kenyan citizen.

  34. Anon 9:08 AM - It's worse - didn't you wonder why a certain Sam Okello was posting here on a regular basis and why - whenever somebody dared to post some critics to his post here, immediately the 'comment moderation' went into force, and finally Chris told us that he was 'on the run'?
Sam Okello (and mainly his wife, Hellen as the Director of Sahel Publisher Inc.) have offered Chris to come to the States and write a book .......
Chris first asked Marianne Briner if she would hoste him and when she declined based on her 'experience' with Jeff Koinange, Chris then contacted the Okellos - and of course they were more than happy to comply with his wishes. Chris accepted their offer especially after they promised to 'write another fiction about Kenyan politics' - in other words, to use you - the Kumekuchans.
That's the reason why Chris kept quiet and still now comes out of the holes only once in a while. He feels ashamed and still does not know what to tell you. But as he said in his approach to pay those 15 $ to receive those 'Raw Notes' - we should help him to live ...... that's what he meant: support me because I have decided to 'graze on green pastures - whereas you can continue struggling - but please send me your comments, so I can publish them and make my living .....'

I guess, he has leaned a lot while living in Kenya - he is a Kamba - and are they not cousins to the business-minded Kikuyus?

My judgement is that Chris has become a Kikuyu when it comes to business - not because he is married to a Kikuyu woman - but because he has always admired them.

Like he told me once: One of the men he admired most, was Jeff Koinange. Jeff represented everything he tried to be: successfull, admired by many and most of all, having been successful in and outside Kenya.

  35. Derek - although I don't mind talking about football, don't you think that this is all Raila is just now thinking about?

And if you do, you have just demonstrated the low level of your brain, in other words 'zero'.

So just in case you decide to publish some comments here, keep in mind that we are judging you on this 'football' level: hard on the surface - but soft on the impact.

Got me? And just in case, you didn't, ask Raila - he knows since he watched the ' real' game many times while living in Germany.

  36. Wow,

am totally lost in between the ethnic diatribe and kumekucha bashing. this is the stuff for a dream team, so well orchestrated, now if only it could be redirected towards actually restoring credibility to our institutions, and rebuilding the broken social cultural/ethnic bridges and foster mutual trading.

If elections are what broke us in 2007 then just maybe elections will bring us together again 2012 (or earlier) or perhaps will completely formally seperate and enact the regional or tribal fissure currently in the making, its just 4.4 years to go.

its very likely that people blogging with so much hate and shallow objectives, rarely interact with others from the other (kenyan) communities, but life can be quite strange. i have seen the worst of bigots in their twilight years with 1 foot in the grave watch helplessly as their offspring or society are either harrangued, or totally immersed in, or completely overtaken, or a beneficiary of the largess or magnanimity of the so called other not so right community. Nothing is permanent in this world. Deceit begets deceit, violence begets violence, scorn - scorn. so lets just keep up with the bad vibes and keep wondering how come we are not getting out of this mess.

  38. We are talking serious matters here, so don't try to divert the attention to some football games - especially since it is a European Championship and not a World Championship.
But maybe most of you - still feeling to belong to the old Commonwealth - feel disappointed because not one of its teams (England, Scotland, Wales and not even Ireland) passed the qualifications......
I suggest that you look into the future - with or without Raila - but learn to decide how to live.... and definitly without the 'advise' of certain bloggers like Sam Okello who is spreading his venom not only on his blog (although Chris felt into his trap more than easily) for his own gains, i.e. to present himself as the future saviour of Kenya under the embrella 'Sam Okello for President in 2012'......

Although I fear that it is too late to warn you since obviously our own Chris has already sold his soul to the very Sam Okello.

But that's what it is all about: money and influence - didn't he (Chris) tell us the same many times before?

I think we read, we heard - but we did not understand - or we just did not want to ........

Whatever .... it's too late now: Kumekucha has sold its soul and with it all of us to the 'highest bidder'.

At the end, it's 'business as usual' and 'money rules the world'.

  41. On May 6, Chris wrote to MB:

Dearest Marianne, As I write this I do not want to make you panic, but things are not good. I beg you not to judge me based on the actions of other Kenyans before me who have let you down badly in the past. Actually this is the hour when I will be able to tell who my real friends are. As I told you in my last email I need to get out of here as soon as possible. Changing the design of Kumekucha and pretending everything is normal is vital so as not to raise the alarm. Of course you know how these people operate. I am sure. Marianne, please take me seriously.
Now I need your help more than ever before. I had promised that I would come to Spain to help you with the book and now it seems I will be there much earlier than I had thought.
However I fear your feelings towards me may have changed. You did not believe me when I told you that I would rather publish Distant-Lovers when I am out of the country. And yet you know who Jeff Koinange has dealings with. Will be interested to know what your feelings are right now.
    Warmly, Chris.
P.S. As you know, I am not a coward. But I also need to be realistic.

And on May 7, Chris added:

    Dear Marianne,
I have decided that my family needs stability right now. My son needs to finish High School over the next 2 years or so. So I will be leaving them behind in Kenya for now. I cannot move around with them at this time. They will be very safe. And they are living in a nice comfortable place here. The danger is on me only. So to answer your question: I will be coming alone.
One top secret thing I have to tell you is that I may have to take a risk going to Immigration to review my passport. I have a lot of evidence to suggest that I am being watched. I would be interested to get your advice on what you think I should do about this passport thing. I really appreciate your understanding at this difficult time.
    Warmly, Chris.

And on May 7, Chris added:

I think, I needx to settle and base most of my work and business operations out of Kenya. Even if I will return in the near future.

Maybe it is for the better, although I have always resisted leaving Kenya for the West. I think, here I have a lot of hindrances when it copmes to the Internet-based business that I do.

For example, I cannot even operate a Paypal account from here and Internet speeds are low.

also some of my prospective clients have a problem giving a large contract to somebody based in Africa.

That is the sad reality of business.

After MB then told him why he does not also contact others who could maybe offer him 'asylum' - Chris replied:

Don't worry, I am going to ask Sam
    Okello and others.
My family are all grown up and my son cannot go to school in Tanzania. In fact my daugther is way in college. Besides I would NOT be safe in Tanzania. You know these people, And that as I have told you I am looking at the long term aspects of my business.

    To which Marianne Briner wote:

    Dear Chris,
I still do not understand why you have to run for your life, as you put it, because I had mentioned in one of my comments that you live in Kenya.

This is not a secret and never was ... since you mentioned many times in some of your posts that you were 'out of town to meet people u-country' or that you had gone to visit your family ... and even publishing something about your wife and family (about her being Kikuyu and about being a grandfather) etc. ....

You will for sure also remember that I told you once (around autumn 2006 - so long before tou published the Rape Article) that I was in contact with Jeff Koinange.

You then told me that you know each other since you played Rugby together although he was agoing to another school ... you even told me to give your regards to him when I speak with him next - which I did.

And you were happy to hear that Jeff remembered you too .... and you were even very proud to hear that Jeff knew that you were running a blog cllaed Kumekucha ... as he said, 'the media world is small and I still keep contacts to old friends in Nairobi and see them whenever I am there' .... as he wrote to me.
And I told you about this and you did not protest at that time - on the contrary, you were proud to know that Jeff liked your blog.

So why I am all of the sudden responsible that you have to run for your life?

If you leave Kenya, it is because you have decided to do so - as you said, you find it difficult to conduct your thriving business because you cannot even open a Paypal account and also your major clients find it diificult to deal with somebody based in Africa.

So, please, stop putting the blame on me - you did not find it 'dangerous' in the past that identity was known.

Maybe tghis has changed since Jeff is back Kenya - but I am not to blame even if certain friends of yours try to convince you.

I thought, I had to clarify this point.

  43. Kumekuchans Beware: Chris has left not only Kenya for 'greener pastures' as some of you called it, but he has also left his family behind. So we are all asked to support him. If we want to read his 'hot' Raw Notes (as he calls them) we have to send him 15 $. Not much money for the ones living like him in 'green pastures' - but a lot and I even feel too much for many of his supporters still living in Kenya who have not been lucky enough to leave like him.

But why should we support him? What did he do for us? Why does he thinks we owe him this money?

Does this way of thinking not put him on the same level of those he pretended to critisize? Does he differ now from those he described as looters? Does he?

I guess, you will agree with me that he has joined their ranks and has become of those praying to the 'golden calf'.

But also Chris needs money while livng in the 'West' like he called it - and he needs us to help to support his family - a family he left behind for whatever reasons.

    What a shame - Kumekucha.

  44. Folks,

I am drawn to a post that that I have called on Raila Odinga to join in a talk about football. That is not the case. This is me writing now. I will not do that for someone who has played uni football, been an official of Re-Union FC (then Luo Union). A man enthusiastic about football!

Then, in another post, I feel drawn to a trilogy that is in the making. If it is true, and if the comments were posted by MB or whoever, I feel sad and very sad. I wonder aloud why PKW once refused to hand her email address and tend to believe that it was well meant.

In this latest PARODY, someone’s tribulations are being ‘anikwad’ for the whole world to see and in my eyes, I see Jeff Koinange and Sam Okello. Sad. Sad and Sad. Please spare us this moment.

If for reasons Chris has found it viable to decamp from the country of first love, I empathise with him that his close kept secret are no longer what he thought they could have been.

As for the person doing this, kindly I ponder a loud question. Is it justified? Honestly, why should it all have to be you? Sharpening a spear and using it.

I know that she has tried to get Chris Kyalo's response - but in vain. Since he lives under the protection of Sam Okello in South Bend, Indiana (USA), he feels safe and even worse, he feels that even if he neglects Kumekuchans and with it his family, he deserves to have his peace - no matter what and how.

In other words, don't expect him to defend himself. You are still 'Kumekuchans' - but Chris has already moved on: He is - together with Sam Okello - preparing his 'bestseller', i.e. securing his living on all of you - Kikuyu-style.

And at the end, you are all a big joke for him - and for Sam Okello - a laughing stock.

    Don't you think so?

So claim that Kumekucha has outlived all this - but is it not true that we (and I repeat WE) have contributed to it's importance and significance?

In other words: Are we not all Kumekucha - and not just one certain Chris Kyalo (Mombasa - Mtopanga Estates, 3rd gate on the right - Cell phone 726 052152) ?

While Chris might have wished it to be like any other forum for politics or a rendezvous for e-democracy, I think Kumekucha is beyond his control now and hence Taabu’s concern.

But why respond in such an abrasive manner? I am only interested in the social welfare of the soul and that it. Nothing more. On the flip side of it. MB again! Why all that. Please civility (uungwana).

Or, who has been so clever to leave their family bewhind and made sure that some stupid people (in this case, we - the Kumekuchans) support them in paying certain money into their Paypal Accounts?

The answer to all these questions - at least with respect to this blog - is very simple:

You and me ..... we all have been that stupid - unbelievable because we all trusted one certain Christopher Kyalo ....

But that's what the end of all this: we have trusted Kumekucha with our information and now find out that Chris Kyalo (Kumekucha) sd used all of us to his own gains (political- and financial-wise).

Would you not agree that this is a shame - a shame of what all people contributed to this blog have contributed to?

Kumekucha or should i say Chris Kyalo please come out of hiding and issue a statement as to the allegations made on this blog today.

I shudder to think i have been wasting my time for the last two years commenting and reading on this blog while all along it was a scam!

And why the sudden lack of posting by Chris or even the persistent Phil?Posts come once a week and it makes you wonder what is going on.

  62. I am glad - and you do not even know how much I am glad not to be Kenyan because there is nothing - and I mean nothing = zero - to be proud about about being Kenyan - African, yes. But Kenyan, no way.

And that's why you are where you are: at the end of the misery of Africa.

And Chris Kyalo - like Sam Okello - have realized and took advantage of this situation:

You are stupid - you will continue being stupid and you do not deserve being more than stupid and being exploited-

    That's your destiny.

  64. Kenyans IT IS NOT TOO LATE TO WAKE UP.

If you steal votes, you will create instabilities affecting businness and developments in your country thus hurting everyone for a long time.

The madoadoas, kwerekweres, athereres, etc will be displaced forever and boycotted. These are the consequences of bad leadership.

Look at what has happened within this short time.

    1) Kivuitu is a millionare
    2) Kibaki has forced people to accept him, the African style.
    3) Kalonzo's miracle has come to light. He had 50mill Ksh, he has 500millions now.

Only these three have significantly gained.

    Questions to you affected Kenyans:

    a) You as a RV IDP, what fun do you have? Are you really happy that Kibaki is ruling? Are you happy that the returning officer of Molo changed the figures on 16A in favor of Kibaki? Are you really proud? Can you condemn these open stealing in Molo and Juja or you are a tribalist?

    b) You IDP, dont you know that some of Kenyan people left for SA to look for greener pastures, some ran away in search of peace in South Africa. Most of them are from central Kenya. A Zulu man heard two Kikuyus saying "atherere meni". The Zulu said they are kwerekwere and must be killed. Are you proud to be a Kenyan or you are proud to be a Kikuyu? Can you understand why the Zulu man hates you? Why cant you support peaceful transitions in Kenya like the one of 2002?

    c) You IDP, can you imagine what could have happened, when the tallying were fair and Kenya would have remained peaceful like in 2003?

I ask all Kenyans to shun tribalism, condemn antidemocracy bodies like Kivuitu, Moi and Kibaki.

Lets support only national parties. No Gema, No Kamba parties, no Luo parties, no Kalenjin parties, No Luhya parties.

The future of our land depends on how mature we grow. We are still very stupid, childish, halfbaked in thinking as far as our National Unity is concerned.

Dont allow genocide to take place in Kenya. Support democracy and all national parties only. The new constitution should allow only real national parties with 10% of national votes to send representatives to national parliament!

A person like Kalonzo was not elected in any part of the country other than Ukambani. He doesnt deserve to be an MP on ODM-Kenya, but rather to be a mayor of Machakos. ODM-Kenya is a tribal party, just like Ford-K and Ford-P, DP, Narc-K included. All these parties must be de-rigistered.

  66. Kumekuchans, I said this in the past when Marianne Briner was beating Jeff Koinange. I will come to Chris' side on this one. This Marianne Briner is one heck of a soul. Any Kenyan son that seems to be successful...she's out to destroy...case in point Jeff Koinange. After Jeff, he came after Sam Okello. Now she's set to devour Chris. Another intelligent Kenyan son.

I can assure you Kumekucha readers, Marianne Briner is an impersonater...she writes comments on this blog and responds to them.

    Ignore this pyscho.

Let her speak and keep speaking about Chris. She'll be tired. The story will be old.

And let me add, Marianne Briner, leave our esteemed Kenyan sons out of your drama.

    It's very boring.

I SEE THE EXACT SAME TREND ON MASHADA- THEY ALL POST threads ACCUSING OTHER BLOGGERS and threatening them - telling them to stop posting things about kibaki ans his cronies AND WHEN THEY CAN'T GET CONTROL-

    GUESS WHAT THEY DO??
STEAL OTHER BLOGGERS IDENTITIES( go to mashada and see for yourself)

The Marianne identity is stolen one and the imaginary emails ati Chris is supposed to have send are fake!!

of course the usual kikuyu PNU propaganda to shut down Kumekucha because kumekucha is hot and has facts more than any other blog in Kenya!

but what they have done wrong this kikuyu identity thieves is abusing Chris and his family!!
In Kenya we do not abuse family- if it one thing Kenyans try not to cross the line is family and on that note-
we will help Chris and I will Pay top $ to find that anonymous to be found- who thinks they can start abusing other peoples families-
I'm not touching politics here- this is personal!!!!

Are you tired of chasing Jeff? Are you tired of chasing Sam Okello? Are you?

Marianne Briner, you are one desperate human being.

Kumekucha readers, this woman, Marianne Briner, is one broke woman.

I tell you what, if Marianne Briner had money...she could have hired hit men to slaughter her enemies.

Let's banish this white rascist from this respectable Kenyan blog.

    Good riddance Marianne Briner Mattern.

And how could Chris trust you with so much info and then you come out here and publish his residential location?

    Are you trustworthy?

Can you be a true friend?

And finally, what motivates you Marianne Briner?

Is it your drive to have enemies of Kibaki be killed?

    Briner behave like someone's grandmother...

it was this blog which published my letter to Raila Odinga -

it was this blog which published my letter to Dr. Njoroge Mungai

it was this blog which published my letter to President Kibaki

it was this blog which published my letter to Uhuru Kenyatta

it was this blog which published my correspondence with Jeff Koinange which finished his life (as he put it), i.e. which made him loose his job with CNN,

it was this blog which published how a certain Sam Okello has cheated me.

it was this blog which co0ntinues to discredit me.

it is this blog which continues hides my name behind some devious deeds,

it is this blog which uses my name to convince (stupid) Kenyans to pay $ 15,-- just to get some irrelevant news,

and last but not least, it is this blog which convinces (even more stupid) Kenyans that in paying this amount they contribute to the 'development' of their country.

How more stupid people a whole country can sink?

Only a blog like Kumekucha (and a certain Chris Kyalo together with Jeff Koinange) could answer this question - but I doubt that they could.

They are just too stupid and therefore wiil give up before even

"The main message was that they should not look at the name or face of the candidate, but just vote for PNU," said our source, who is a senior PNU official. >>[/b]

  111. In late 1960, Kariuki relationship with Kenyatta became increasingly strained as Kariuki became increasingly vocal of Kenyatta's policy. Some of their disagreement were:

    Government corruption.
The widening gap between rich and poor due to drought and the oil shock of 1973.
Deteriorating relations among East African Community members.
Unfair distribution of land: After independence, United Kingdom government gave Kenyatta government funds to buy back land from the white settlers and redistribute it back to the natives. However, the land was never redistributed, but most of it was handed over to Kenyatta's close friends. This was somehow similar to what happened in USSR early 90s.
In 1974, he was elected as Nyandarwa's Member of parliament and became an assistant minister in the Kenyatta government between 1974 and 1975. This was despite Kenyatta government pulling all strings at its disposal to avoid his re-election as his popularity threatened to overshadow the government of the day. He was last seen alive at the Hilton Hotel, accompanied by Kenyatta's bodyguard on March 2, 1975. Several days later, Kariuki's remains were found by a Maasai herdsman, Musaita ole Tunda, in a thicket in the Ngong Hills. His fingers had been chopped off and eyes gouged out.

Anyway, I see you all more worried about my disclosures regarding Sam Okello than Chris Kyalo .... why?

Could it be that Sam Okello has more dead bodies buried than Chris?

    Just a cruious question.

  115. Who owns Kenya?
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    EXCLUSIVE

THE THIEVES AND THUGS THAT STOLE FROM THE KENYAN PEOPLE- NOW CHRIS KIRUBI HAS BEEN CAUGHT WITH PANTS HIS PANTS DOWN!!!

Kenya’s two former First Families and the family of President Mwai Kibaki are among the biggest landowners in the country.

A residual class of white settlers and a group of former and current power brokers in the three post independent regimes follow them closely while a few businessmen and farmers, many with either current or past political connections, also own hundreds of thousands of acres.

The extended Kenyatta family alone owns an estimated 500,000 acres — approximately the size of Nyanza Province — according to estimates by independent surveyors and Ministry of Lands officials who spoke on condition of anonymity.

The Kibaki and Moi families also own large tracts of land though most of the Moi family land is held in the names of his sons and daughters and other close family members.

Most of the holders of the huge parcels of land are concentrated within the 17.2 per cent part of the country that is arable. The remaining 80 per cent is mostly arid and semi arid land.

In fact, according to the Kenya Land Alliance, more than a half of the arable land in the country is in the hands of only 20 per cent of the 30 million Kenyans. That has left up to 13 per cent of the population absolutely landless while another 67 per cent on average own less than an acre per person.

The building land crises in the country, experts say, will be difficult to solve because the most powerful people in the country are also among its biggest landowners.

The tracts of land under the Kenyatta family are so widely distributed within the numerous members in various parts of the country that it is an almost impossible task to locate all of them and establish their exact sizes.

During Kenyatta’s 15-year tenure in State House, there was an elaborate scheme funded by the World Bank and the British Government, the Settlement Transfer Fund Scheme, under which the family legally acquired large pieces of land all over the country.

Among the best-known parcels owned by Kenyatta’s family, for instance, are the 24, 000 acres in Taveta sub-district adjacent to the 74, 000 acres owned by former MP Basil Criticos.

Others are 50, 000 acres in Taita that is currently under Mrs Beth Mugo, an Assistant minister of Education and niece of the first President, 29, 000 acres in Kahawa Sukari along the Nairobi—Thika highway, the 10, 000 acre Gichea Farm in Gatundu, 5, 000 acres in Thika, 9,000 acres in Kasarani and the 5, 000-acre Muthaita Farm. These are beside others such as Brookside Farm, Green Lee Estate, Njagu Farm in Juja, a quarry in Dandora in Nairobi and a 10, 000-acre ranch in Naivasha.

The acreage quoted in this report is not extracted from official government records — there are none and those that exist are scattered and some cases incomplete — but are estimates based on close to a year of interviews with farm staff, independent surveyors, Ministry of Lands experts and land rights NGOs.

Other pieces of land owned by the Kenyatta family include the 52,000-acre farm in Nakuru and a 20,000-acre one, also known as Gichea Farm, in Bahati under Kenyatta’s daughter, Margaret. Besides, Mama Ngina Kenyatta, widow of the former President, owns another 10, 000 acres in Rumuruti while a close relative of the Kenyatta family, a Mrs Kamau, has 40,000 acres in Endebes in the Rift Valley Province.

It is understood that in the late 1990s, the Kenyatta family started considering the possibility of disposing of parts of the land in Nairobi.

In the lead-up to the 2002 general elections, for instance, there were indications that the family was considering selling the 100-acre piece of land in Karen. But even with that, the Kenyatta family would still own a sizeable part of Nairobi, such as the 1,000-acre farm in Dagoretti owned by Kenyatta’s first wife Wahu.

It is also understood that part of the land on which Kenyatta and Jomo Kenyatta Universities are constructed initially belonged the Criticos family. The government bought the land from him in 1972 under the Settlement Transfer Fund Scheme.

It is alleged, though there is little compelling evidence, that the land was transferred to the Kenyatta family the same day Criticos sold it to the government.

Neither is it clear how much the family paid for it.

Land for the two universities was subsequently donated by the family.

Under President Kenyatta, most of the power wielders either formed or were associated with land buying companies through which they acquired huge chunks of land around the country, especially at the Coast and in Rift Valley.

They took most of the land previously owned by the former white settlers, which had initially been earmarked for resettling those who had been turned into squatters by the colonial land policies.

One of the most famous land buying companies was Gema Holdings.

Most of the people — including retired President Moi and his former Vice President, Mwai Kibaki — who had considerable political influence in the Kenyatta regime, were given the opportunity to buy as much land as they could.

One of President Kibaki’s earliest acquisitions is the 1,200-acre Gingalily Farm along the Nakuru-Solai road. He bought it in the late 1960s.

And in the 1970s, Kibaki, who was then the minister for Finance under Kenyatta, bought 10, 000 acres in Bahati from the then Agriculture minister Bruce Mckenzie. Kibaki also owns another 10, 000 acres at Igwamiti in Laikipia and 10, 000 acres in Rumuruti in Naivasha.

These are in addition to the 1,600 acre Ruare Ranch that came to the limelight when it caught fire last year.

Just next to Kibaki’s Bahati land are Moi’s 20, 000 acres although his best known piece of land is the 1,600 Kabarak Farm on which he has retired. It is one of the most well utilised farms in the area, with wheat, maize and dairy cattle.

The former President owns another 20, 000 acres in Olenguruoni in Rift Valley, on which he is growing tea and has also built the Kiptakich Tea Factory. He also has some 20, 000 acres in Molo.

He also has another 3, 000-acre farm in Bahati on both sides of the Nakuru/Nyahururu road where he grows coffee and some 400 acres in Nakuru on which he was initially growing coffee.

The former President also owns the controversy ridden 50, 000 acre Ol Pajeta Farm—part of which has Ol Pajeta ranch in Rumuruti, Laikipia. Last year, the family put out an advert in the press warning the public that some unknown people were sub-dividing and selling it.

Land transactions are ongoing and some of these farms may have changed hands.

Lands minister Amos Kimunya said yesterday the Government is formulating a land policy, which will address the question of idle land.

"If it is lying idle, the Government will definitely apply the law to the letter to ensure it is put to productive use," he said.

"The policy is being developed by the people. At the end of it all, views that emerge are to be synthesised to come up with prudent policy." But the Government has no quarrel with the size of land one owns. "The question is, is that land, notwithstanding the size, being put to productive use?"

IT'S NO WONDER THESE THIEVES COULDN'T LET GO OF POWER AFTER LOOSING THE ELECTIONS.

A LOT OF STEALING BRIEFLY HALTED BY THE CAMPAIGNS, HAD TO BE CONCLUDED.

The TWO biggest assets built from fraudulent proceeds from Kenyan public funds through GOLDENBERG are the GRAND REGENCY HOTEL (built by the thief Kamlesh Pattni) & YAYA CENTRE (built by the thieves Biwott & Moi).

What is now obvious is - THIS IS THE REASON KIBAKI DECIDED TO SIT ON THE GOLDENBERG REPORT and THE REASON SAITOTI WAS ACQUITED FROM CORRUPTION CHARGES.

This must also be why PHILLIP MURGOR was FIRED, precisely for thorough scrutiny of the process of recovery of Goldenberg related assets....which were then placed in the hands of the crooked Solicitor General Wanjuki Muchemi.

We remember that Goldenberg senior counsel Gibson Kamau Kuria, who was accused by former Director of Public Prosecutions-Philip Murgor of impropriety in his dealings with the key Goldenberg witness - Kamlesh Pattni.
Kuria then had his brother-in-law a Mr Gichohi appointed the Receiver Manager at Grand regency, replacing the court assigned manager. This is brazen theft.

This was a clear case of being caught with hands in the jar. Simply put Kibaki was trying to steal the Hotel.

Now Kimunya tells us that the Hotel will be sold by auction. He explains that the AG was not involved because these was not a criminal matter but a debt issue. How stupid can one be? This is a Finance Minister who does not know what he is talking about.

CBK cannot and did not lend money to Pattni, contrary to what Kimunya is telling us. CBK is not a banker to the public. The Hotel was recovered through proceed from crime provisions under KACC Regulations because Patni was a participant of Goldenberg theft. He was criminally prosecuted and the some of the cases are still going on. KACC through its Lawyer - Gibson Kamau Kuria instructed Receivers who for sometime were running the Hotel as a going concern, on behalf of the Govt. That simply a precautionary action- making sure that the Hotel was functioning normally thus keeping is value. I understand all the value was built up using public money, anyway. The Receiver must tell us how much profits/losses he made while running the Hotel. Now Pattni has thrown in the towel - willing to give up the Hotel which would have eventually be recovered through criminal prosecution anyway, he wants immunity from further prosecution.

The AG is custodial of all public wealth. This Hotel is literally now a public wealth - held in trust by the Govt. The trustee in this case is AG who can sue or be sued on behalf of the Hotel. Why was the AG not involved, when we know KACC has no prosecutorial power to pursue criminal like Pattni. All criminal prosecutions are done by the DPP who is under the AG. It is clear that Kibaki is using Ringera to keep the Hotel for his personal gain. Now they want to sell the Hotel under auction - so that they can manipulate the sale to gain ownership of the Hotel.

I think rather than an auction where scrupulous wealthy thieves will get their hands on the Hotel, and we shall have no way to know how the auction was conducted, the Gov't should strike a deal and hand it over to a reputable international hotel chain with the view to private sale. Otherwise it will be another acquisition of Kibaki.

  125. Goldenberg Co. owned Exchange Bank and when it went it receivership, the CBK appointed Kittony under statutory management powers. He oversaw the folding of the bank.

KACA on the other hand had pursued Pattni under proceed of crime powers and have attached all his companies including Goldenberg, etc. He was prosecuted several times and some of the cases are still on going. The man was sent to prison and it was after the successful prosecution that the KACA started recovering the Grand Regency from him. By the way these prosecutions have nothing to do with Exchange Bank, CBK had sued directors of Exchange Bank under its supervisory powers – the likes of Kotut.

It was, I think during the Chunga era, up untill Murgor as DPP who prosecuted some Goldenberg related cases until Kuria took over by acting as a leading counsel to the Bosire commission in all the Goldenberg prosecutions and now Pattni having sensed defeat offered the Hotel in return for immunity.

    From Standard Archives,

    1. Pattni faced charges of stealing KShsl3.5bn and another charge of stealing KShsl5.5bn from the exchequer. Some estimates put the overall loss to the Kenya exchequer at Shs68bn.

    2. Pattni was already being tried jointly with the former permanent secretary in the Treasury, Wilfred Koinange, for the theft of Shs 5.8bn from the Paymaster-General.

    3. Pattni has been charged on several counts including theft of KShs 322m from the Customs and Excise Department, forgery, altering documents and obtaining money by false pretences.

Granted he used his bank - the Exchange Bank - to transact his illicit activities, but you will realise he was charges individually not the Exchange Bank.

Pattni's manoeuvres caused CBK to pay out unearned compensation in violation of the Banking Act because it did not supervise Exchange Bank as per the Banking code.

In 1993 Exchange bank collapsed and by that time the illicit money stolen from the exchequer, as above, had already been withdrawn. Pattni pledged to settle the difference from his myriad resources but started stalling. Instead he bought the Grand Regency Hotel for $14m but this was taken back by the receivers on behalf of the CBK.

This led to his first arrest for the theft of Shs2.6bn from the CBK. He was denied bail and spent almost three months at Kamiti prison. When he emerged he found the Grand Regency had already been advertised for sale by the CBK. Pattni then ran to the High Court to stop the sale. The five-year legal battle over the hotel was only the beginning of the continuing saga.

You will see, above, that Pattni was simply a thief, who was very corrupt. It is this crime which gave KACA powers to recover his wealth. Becuase of this, Grand Regency was under KACA – you will remember Kuria famously stated in Bosire Commission that he appointed his brother-in-law as receiver because he did not trust anyone else. Kuria was acting for KACA not the CBK.

CBK by this time had lost all its interest on Pattni's wealth.

When Pattni throw in the towel, the most legal thing to do was to transfer the Grand Regency Hotel as public trust under the trusteeship of the AG, to be sold as going concern, not the CBK. It is when the Grand Regency is sold that the money recovered goes to the CBK as the govt banker to offset govtal debt. But the bottom line is Grand Regency must be sold at the highest market value possible - Kenyans will not accept it being handed over to some cronies for chicken feed.

Finally, Kenyans want to see the balance sheets of the Hotel since put under receivership. We want to know if it made profits or losses and how much. We also want to know how much was given to the Receivers for their services, because if the Hotel made losses, then the Recievers fees must reflect their failure to maintain the Hotel as a viable bussiness.

  130. To shut up the likes of Hellen, Sam Okello and Chris Kyalo: my phone is also connected with a spsnish tape recorder system ...

But assuming you do not even know the difference between English and Spanish, you must have thaught to have been so clever to get connected whereas the reality is that the tape recorder voice was just telling you that you did not make it because the number is not correct.........

But as I said, the world is made for intelligent and not for stupid people - and you are all belonging to the most stupid lot.......

  134. The following individuals need to explain how Grand Regency has been grabbed from the public;

KACC crooked boss - Aaron Ringera
The smiling deceiver, the AG- Amos Wako.

    Solicitor Gen. - Wanjuki Muchemi

Goldenberg counsel - Gibson Kamau Kuria

    CBK Governor - Prof. Ndungu

    Grand Regency Rec.mngr (& Kuria's in-law) -Mr Gichohi

    Some of them have eaten until their cheecks are almost exploding;

Gibson Kamau Kuria deeply immersed in this transfer

  141. IDP'S NEED LAND -LOOK WHAT AT WHAT THIS KIKUYU THIEVES AND THUGS STOLE FROM KENYANS!! THE LAND SHOULD BE DISTRIBUTED TO THE IDP'S!!

    SHAME ON THIS GOONS!!

  165. Finally, Raila is going to be a Kikuyu elder on 20th July under the guidance of Kuguru of all people! Honestly, doesn't Raila have better contacts in Kikuyuland besides Njonjo, Kuguru and Maina Njenga (aka Mungiki Chief Beheader)? I can't wait to see how Mungiki and Njonjo will join hands and sing Thaai Thaathaya! facing Mt Kenya as Kuguru ties the skin apron around Raila's loin. I understand Joseph Kamaru might attend to give the spectacle some semblance of a Kikuyu ritual with his music. Those who say that Kikuyu votes can be taken for granted by a presidential aspirant had better abandon their delusion before 2012. Every crown has its jewel. The crown jewel of the Kenya presidency is the Kikuyu vote and Raila has learned it late and the hard way. But better late than never. The problem with Raila is that he is relying on lost souls to show him the way to the House of Mumbi (HOMU). He needs to know that on the way to HOMU there are deep holes that can swallow even a hammer. And to navigate around these holes he needs to abandon his hopper habits and seek the guidance of the true HOMU boys/girls. Short of that, he must be ready to cry again in 2012 that his imaginary vote has been stolen.

Now even more than before since she has to defend not only her socalled husband Sam, but also her new lover Chris - known before as Kumekucha.

A man in charge would have simply rounded up the eldi thugs and punished them accordingly. And put a stop to the fight. Check the repraisals before they even start.

Thats law and order and justice..not the kalonzo led..illegal midnight amnesty granted to mungiki thugs secretely

Is the picture getting any clearer?

Either Emilio was not in charge, or he is completely useless or he was complicit it what was going on.

Instead the police were busy shooting peacfull protesters and petty looters in kisumu.......

They missed the piont cause their agenda was to stop RAO.....nothing else mattered...the conflict between kales and kukuyus in rift valley is decadeds old it was bound to be a conflict zone as it as always been in every election yet the attention was in kisumu......RAO.

So the presidents own tribesmen saftey was not a priority as long as he could contain his personal nemsis on RAO.

Now you know who to blame.

    Sir Alex

  175. Thank you, this is the first insightful article, if we as kenyans cannot even look at each other as individuals who all come together under the banner of being Kenyan then we have a long way to go before things even have a way of turning around. I dont deny, there is a bad balance between tribes politically, but don't forget that there are people who havent depended on their tribal affiliations to be successful. This is definetly a change from some of the loaded statements that are made out of spite here.
