Vision 2012: We Don’t Care Who Leads As Long As Our Nation Is Corrupt Free

ONLY BRAND NEW LEADERSHIP AND BRAND NEW IDEAS CAN SAVE KENYA
The clarion call of vision 2012 is not as far-fetched or falsely premised on procrastination as some have suggested-after all, aren't we all in agreement that Kenyans deserve new and better leadership-we're worth it are we not?
Someone tell me - was it wrong for Chris in his Thursday post entitled "Most Kenyans Want Fresh Elections" to suggest that we should get rid of all leaders that have a fanatical following on both sides of the political divide-including President Kibaki and Prime Designate Minister Odinga? These two principals now have shadows looming larger than life, and their stature towers over the political landscape, fighting for a place with the very air in our breathing space.
For those of us mere mortals who are dwarfs lower down in the food chain, we eagerly await scraps of meals falling down from the table to come our way-apparently this years left-over’s are going to be 3%-3.5% GDP. The president and prime minister have become the new Lex Luthor and Superman of our time (read into that whatever you want-I didn't support either from the start),and their kryptonite which is also ours is N-e-g-a-t-i-v-e e-t-h-n-i-c-i-t-y
The problem now is these two archenemies appear locked in a bitter age old rivalry which far supercedes everything else including the welfare of our country-is that right? When these two elephants fight the sun is blocked from view and all the fish in the fish market die
BELLING THE CAT
So what are the ingredients for vision 2012? The recipe entails one big corruption free national cake, 210 fresh idea-totting- imperfect MPs, one unbreakable law in the name of constitution, punishments for breaking the law without fear or favour, and independent, effective public institutions. The missing ingredient? one word....Unity.
In 2012 the prize of a nation’s heart will belong to a new breed of leadership that succeeds in achieving everything that current old leadership has failed to do in 2008, namely to unite people in this country. Is it any wonder our standards are falling from KNEC to ECK because we’re divided? Conversely united we’ll stand
Real leadership will stand the severe strains of uniting 40 million people from 42 different tribes without breaking at the test of portfolio balance in public appointments, equal and transparent resource distribution, and of course integrity
OUT WITH THE OLD IN WITH THE NEW
The choice in this matter lies squarely in the hands of ordinary people such as you and me. 5 years is not a long time, but if wishes were horses’ beggars would live in Grand Regency. We must break our dependency on the safety of the known and familiar and instead embrace what is new- not necessarily what is tried and untested-in the hope of saving this country further from going in the direction its currently headed in
Vision 2012 states that a united people of Kenya will not care who is leading this great country as long as Kenya remains corruption free and our businesses, laws, public offices and institutions are incorruptible and cannot be used to corrupt-sadly, we currently we have no one single individual who can fill that position
On thursday i had a nice interesting chat with BPONE right here inour very own DOMO chat room- BPONE finally managed to get an idea of who will bell the cat-and a great idea i think it is too. (by the way if you've never taken advantage of it its lots of fun chatting with other Kumekucha readers from all over the world.

News Update
President Mwai Kibaki and Prime Minister Designate are reported to have been holed up at the Sagana State Lodge today for over 6 hours in an effort to break the impasse over the grand coalition cabinet.

The two principals were flown there by Air Force Helicopters and not even their closest handlers were allowed anywhere near the Sagana State Lodge.

It is said that the two principals have vowed to have a cabinet in place by the time parliament reopens on Tuesday.

  1. Luka spot on but at the tail of it ball we are left standing at the head. Do you realized that anything PROGRESSIVE is premised on kabita poa whose fate lies with the present scoundrels? Granted, any generation without a vision is as lost as planet Pluto. Realizing any objective(tiny or grandiose) must start with acheivable moves. So where do we start from here? Folding our hands waiting for 2012 must not be a choice. We must be ready to SOIL our hands right now is wrestling back our country from the present scoundrels. Otherwise the rape will leave no Kenya to inherit come 2012.

PS: Putting Ivy in the same sentence with Mpesa and kimi is VERY OFFENSIVE. It is akin to nominating Wangari Maathai and Mwangi Kiunjui for 2012 nobel price.

  2. Thank you Luke,

    For this very important post.

Folks Tunaji-enjoy. While we are here busy rearing our tribal and fanatical-political-support FANGS for either of the principals the truth is that it is not adding any Ugali into our plates. And more importantly neither is it taking the country forward.

I know I am branded a supporter of ODM (which I am NOT) but today I make an impassioned plea to all my Kenyan brothers across the political divide, please let us get together and get our country back.

A woman does not fail to get married because she saw her mother being beaten up by her father and was told that all men are animals. In the same way we cannot throw away this golden opportunity for brand new leadership just because we have been told that every Kenyan who gets power becomes corrupt.

For better or for worse Kenya is crying out for brand new leadership.

  3. Kenya was a promising country as far as Education and economy is concerned.

The 2nd liberators could have managed to bring Kenya to the 2nd world in 2002. The mistake was "The Fence sitter tosha".

The last chance for Kenya is coming. If the Principal Liberator RAO leaves the ring, then Kenya will be lost for ever.

There is no one in Kenya who can resist the charm of money. Everybody is corrupt right from primary school.

Infact we go to church to pray for the devil money. The cardinal is the most corrupt and immoral(child rape in Nyeri).

We corrupt the Exam results, election results, admission to school and colleges.

KENYA IS A DEN OF IMMORAL PEOPLE!

  4. I meant to say all my Kenyan brothers and sisters. In the new republic we should make every effort to ensure that women are prominent in the proceedings.

My sincere apologies to all the brave KK women like Shiko, Mrembo, Ivy, PKW etc.

Forgive me it was a slip-of-the-keyboard and NOT a computer error like the suspect one of the Examination Council.

  5. The brand new leaders who intend to get their ques from Britain, America, European Union or China will be as bad as the these old folks who are unable think for themselves!

Unless the young leaders learn to form partnership with foreigners instead of taking directives from them, Kenya will remain a colony. The ruling elites have not shown that they have any clues as to how to govern without being told how!!

  6. Hi Chris and Luke,

Guys, you seem to miss the point. The only reason we've not had the right leaders up to now is because the masses are not well informed. They do not know who a true leader is or what to expect from them. This is why a politician promises to build a road and gives us two kilos of suger and a pair of Lesos for our dear wives and he has the vote! Unless we launch some massive civic education campaign, we ain't going too far.

Raila may have a fanatical following but for the right reasons. He is a true leader. A visionary leader that Kenya in this hour of transition.

Consider the Mau Mau and the war for independence. Colonial government had their fanatical backers and the Mau Mau had their fanatical followers. Would you have suggested that we get a neutral leader who could bring unity and peace between the colonial govt and the Mau Mau since they all have fanatical followers. A leader who fights to emancipate his people from opression of necessity needs a fanatical following. Otherwise when the going gets tough they might all run away and he be left exposed to the enemy.

The Mau Mau won because of the fanatical following. The same can be said of India's Ghandi, and all the revolutionary leaders. So if we face dictators today, you don't overcome them by getting rid of your generals (with a fanatical following) a get a neutral person who can unify dictators and democrats. You simply have to fight them and win. And you need a fanatical following for that matter.

Take Raila out of the equation and tell me who else has the courage to face these dictators. He is not only a strong leader but also a great visionary. Take a look at the ODM manifesto and you will quickly agree with me.

The problem we've had as a nation is very simple. As i said, the reason we've not had the right leaders up to now is because the masses are not well informed. They dont know what leadership is all about. It is the people that put these bogus leaders into power. If you are to change these leaders, you will need some massive civic campaigns to educate the people on leadership and governance.

And for a lasting impact we need to target the Education curriculum to incorporate a subject "Politics and Governance" to be taught in schools at all levels to prepare future generations to take over the positions of leadership. This will make sure that the masses make informed choices when it comes to voting and leadership.

It's true Luka we need our country back. This fanaticisms and hatred is really fatiguing. We must think outside the box.

  10. luke

    very interesting perspective.

i think we are basically all agreed that there has been a lot of wrong. what has never been agreeable is how to fix and whom to choose to lead in fixing the problems and that is besides the unctuous task of determining the priorities and order.

perhaps we need a radical effort for a paradigm shift from the superman mentality which contributes to and is part of the present problem, to a more sane working within our mortal limitations.

right from childhood as kenyans we are somehow made to believe that we should go along with something even if we know its not the right path, but in the hope that somewhere down the road, a herculean effort either by ourselves, cronies, or some benefactor (whoever the hero(ine) might be) with one fell swoop will crush the encumbrance and voila we have a new dispensation to start a new chapter. thats why crime is glorified perhaps because its assumed that somehow further down the road, the past can (will) be shed.

possibly its from the rambo movies, or our parents or predecessors, but this approach really gets old and tired, but most important, does not work anymore (at least not as effectively).

the modern world is advancing rapidly due to collaborative effort comprising numerous players, each making baby or giant steps, but all the time working within their means/resources and constantly improving on their scope of effort.

in short, i dont agree with the sweeping statement that you have to get rid of all present leadership and install fresh "untainted" leadership. its too "rambo" and serves no other purpose other than provide ourselves (we who have not yet been public leaders) an advantage over those others. i have also said before that getting rid of the dirt from a system and also getting rid of those cleaning the system is illogical and is tantamount to throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

a few bad (PNU or ODM) leaders do not provide justification to deny other worthy leaders the opportunity to serve kenyans.

sorry guys am ODM damu so this next statement may offend

its easy to identify the few leaders in ODM with less than perfect leadership credentials (possibly 3 or 4 out of 100+)

for PNU its only possible to identify the few good ones (probably 2 out of whatever the PNU number is). todate i still dont even know what PNU is. is it a party, a coalition of forever colliding partners and coalitions, a government, a figment of our imagination, honestly i dont know

  11. WE HAVE A CABINET Ladies and Gentlemen!!!!!!!

    ------------------

Kenyan leaders break deadlock on cabinet – sources
By C. Bryson Hull and Wangui Kanina Reuters - 55 minutes ago

NAIROBI (Reuters) - Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki and opposition leader Raila Odinga struck a deal on a power-sharing cabinet on Saturday after secret one-on-one talks to end a six-week impasse, sources close to the talks said.

"There is a deal and the cabinet will be announced tomorrow (Sunday)," said one of two sources close to the talks who confirmed the deal to Reuters.

A diplomat who spoke on condition of anonymity also said the deal had been reached and would be announced on Sunday. The formation of a power-sharing cabinet is the key element of a deal to end the east African nation's post-election crisis in which 1,200 people died and more than 300,000 were displaced.

There were no immediate details about the make-up or size of the cabinet, nor about whether either side gave up on claims to influential ministries they had haggled over.
Spokesmen for Odinga's Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and the government declined to comment.

  13. Umm...until I hear it with my own ears and the words come out of Kibaki's mouth, there's no such thing as a deal. He'll turn around tomorrow and deny everything. But, if there really is a deal and the cabinet is announced tomorrow, well and good. Perhaps we can all go back to living our lives again.

  14. Chris, thanks for your conversion. You now join the class of saul to paul. This is all we were all asking you.

As we celebrate the new cabinet, i expect this blog to have a hit as there will be a big surprise for one of the pentagon. Cabinet imemhepa so i gather. Raila amekula mukimo, supu ya mbuzi na mandizi ya kutosha. What next

Raila ios said to have sent word to the youth in Kibera to destroy the railway line to catch world attention. I hear this is true.

If he picks Jeff Koinange as his running mate and brings in Raymond Moi as Prime minister, we are looking at a nation with the potential to grow and prosper in ways we can't even begin to imagine. I'm just thinking aloud. I hope that is okay here at Kumekucha.

OOPS!! YOU MEAN KIBAKI SEND POLICE TO KILL MUNGIKI LEADERS NJENGA'S WIFE SO THAT THE MUNGIKI'S DON'T DISCLOSE EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENDED AT THE MEETING THEY HAD WITH KIBAKI WITH HIS CRONIES BEFORE AND AFTER ELECTIONS IN 2007??

KIBAKI AND HSI PNU CRONIES ARE ANIMALS!! THEY TORTURED HER BEFORE EXECUTING HER!!!! BUT GUESS WHAT!! THEY CAN NOT EXECUTE MORE THAN THE 3000 MUNGIKI MEMBERS- THEY WILL COME BACK TO BITE THOSE WHO THEY MADE THE DEAL WITH!!KIBAKI IS KNOWN NOT TO KEEP ANY MOU'S HE SIGNS WITH ANYBODY INCLUDING THE MUNGIKI'S NOW!! KIBAKI CAN NOT GO ON A SPREE OF EXECUTING ANY BODY THAT DOES NOT AGREE WITH HIM!! MAMBO BADO!! MUNGIKI WILL NOT GO DOWN EASILY- THIS ARE FIGHTERS!!

  20. PNU IS WASTING TIME EXTENDING OR NAMING CIVIL SERVANTS AND GAZZATING
THEM OTHERS ARE BEING ADDED 3 YEARS- BUT WITH THE NEW CONSTITUTION IN PLACE OR REASONS ARE PUT IN PLACE TO SACK THEM WHICH IS EASY THEY WILL NOT STAY IN THEIR POSITIONS JUST LIKE KIBAKI DID TO MOI`S APPOINTED cIVIL SERVANTS- BUT THIS TIME WE WANT THEM ALL OUT THOSE OLD GOONS MUST BE CLEARED OUT!! AND KENYANS WILL DEMAND IT- WE HAVE TOO MANY WELL EDUCATED YOUNG GENERATION TO FILL UP ALL THOSE POSITIONS- PEOPLE THAT WERE AROUND SINCE KENYATTA'S TIME AND EARLY MOI'S RULE SHOULD BE PUSHED OUT QUICKLY!!OUT OUT !! MUTHURIA MUST STEP DOWN TOO HE IS A DISGRACE TO THE KENYAN SOCIETY WITH HIS TRIBAL LINE OF THOUGHT THAT EMPLOY ONLY PEOPLE FROM THE CENTRAL PROVINCE!!COBWEBS HAVE MESSED HIS BRAINS WITH AGE!! 21. i have to admit reading the comments above has taken me back a little. you mean kumekucha you are not a supporter of odm? so are you implying you are a supporter of evil pnu? trust me, i can be as mad as hell at odm....but pnu sitawahi fika!! never!!

anonymous 12.16, i agree with you, removing the whole lot because of the perceived wrongs of a few is akin to throwing out the baby with the bath water. there are good leaders even among those rotten ones and i agree it is not fair to deny them an opportunity to serve.

i love the ingredients for vision 2012 luke and brand new leadership is a welcome idea but what i think we we need to do, is to vet our people before we elect them, people with corrupt pasts and the like should never be allowed to hold any public office, that way we dont get carried away with the new leadership idea just to replace the old...that way luke my dear, we shall not lock out any worthy opponent. perhaps getting new leadership just for the sake of 'new leadership' may not really solve anything going by this example, si george thuo the government chief whip is a new leader? is he helping anyone with anything? his first order of business was to get matatus out of the city center through his buddy kenyatta, then he planted scary letters in mps pigeon holes!! that one is a hot number!! hata three months hadnt gone by!! am sure he's gonna be proven even more corrupt than the old guard just give him time.

luke, dont you think we should also have a maximum term limit for those people? maybe three terms is enough. some of them have been there since 1964, they never make any decisions, never have any ideas of substance....yet they are still there wasting taxpayers money doing nothing!! and now they are pretending to be presidents!! we need fresh idea-totting individuals as you've said, watu wa kukaa tu 'ndeee' warudi makwao!!

  22. PNU wants us to focus on this as a battle between RAO n Kifucky where then the theif can 'win'....We have seen thru that....This a battle for the kenyan soul right now the front men are RAO and the pentagon if they fail we have to find other leaders but we shall battle on.....

  24. Hi. I wonder why Michuki was relagated to Environment.I think the kirinyaga construction have something to do with it.He warned them not long ago about their sheddy work, and now you can see what happened. Remember that Raila touched the same co before. It didnt go well him. Michuki is a high performing minister, i hope he'll bring change where Kalonzo could not see an opportunity for change.Kenya has mineral like titanium in kwale, limestome in kitui, coal in mwingi, soda ash in magadi etc. we need a mineral's policy like in south africa and Botswana where all benefit from their resources.
