Mungiki the Curse of Fraudulent Leadership

The Mungiki menace couldn't have come at worse time for Kibaki. The only thing going for Mwai Kibaki since he became Kenya’s president in 2002 is serial jumps from one crisis to another. You don’t have to be superstitious to see the jinx starting from being sworn in at Uhuru Park on a wheel chair to the tumultuous 2003/4 following his trashing of the MOU. The referendum in 2005 was the icing of the crisis cake. Kibaki’s deceptive ways have made him a magnet of bad lack.

Nature truly pays handsomely and promptly in kind. You don’t sup with the devil only to turn around and disown the master of hell. The present Mungiki outrage is chicken coming home to roast. The murder of Mrs Njenga was the much-needed spark to vent anger on a deal gone sour. The poor folks cannot allow themselves to be flashed down the toilet loyally playing MACHETE men in the post election violence.

Fraud props jinxes
Nobody can trust the Kenyan police force anymore given their selective pumping of live bullets in particular sections of the country. Their penchant to execute is well documented. But your guess is as good as mine who between the police and Mungiki would rape and behead a woman. Mrs Njenga’ slaying bears all the hallmark of Mungiki’s grotesque and nefarious murderous orgies.

Calamities, jinxes and bad omen often have higher affinity to visit willing souls weaned on deception and indecision. Mungiki is no ragtag militia as Kibaki would want us to believe. The recent clandestine move by the government to recruit them into the police force is akin to sharpening the very knife whose blades will soon severe the veins of your throat. But this is Kenya where Maina Kiai can only be a hero if he keeps quiet at the sight of electoral theft.

Leaders worth their name lead from the front anf by example. Following institutionalized impunity by none other than the president himself who outrightly raped Kenyans via ELECTORAL THEFT, you cannot expect any justice from any law enforcement arm. The policemen would resort to illegal shortcuts to save themselves time and resources. One thing if for sure: the kidnapping of Mrs Njenga was too complex for ordinary thugs.

Mungiki couldn't have asked for a weighty, dependable and moneyed patronage than a whole deputy prime minister. We haven’t seen the last fangs and bloodletting from Mungiki. The monster is already mutating to maul her own. They can cool their heels through extortion when prudent and calm but remain on the ready to be called to political duty when necessary. It is called scratch my back and I scratch yours. Today’s extra-judicial killing must be the collateral damage in this evil scheme of Kenyan politics.

  2. It is yet to be seen if the police force knows all the colors of this murderous sect. I just hope that those whose names have been mentioned by that Mungiki "spokesman" have already hired for themselves extra security or they better relocate to MARS because a Mr. Gitau, the spokesman, meant business when he said that they are going for the heads of the high and mighty who have been friends turned foes.

Taabu I agree with you, a person only reaps what he/she sowed. In the justice system of mungiki there is nothing like a tooth for a tooth. They do it the style of a tooth for teeth. I don't want to be sarcastic but that sounds like a better justice to me because why wake up the sleeping dog if you are not prepared.

  3. Taabu,
You are right. There are 2 sides to Mungiki.
First and foremost it is a murderous sect, criminal and full of lazy bad-teeth, tobacco snorting young men who abuse women and reap where they never sowed.
If Mungiki is driven by poverty, then all regions in Kenya should have similar gangs. I have not an iota of sympathy for Mungiki. They deserve every iota of pain they get. I make and do not take any excuses for mungiki. They are criminal with all the crimes of any mob but with the savagery of Papua New Guinea's cannibals.

Secondly, Mungiki have been used by the politicians, Kenyan politicians are masters of use and misuse. Now that Mungiki services are no longer needed, the government is off course going to eliminate any one with a story. Trust me, the hijacking of the gangs leader's wife was to complex to be a mungiki thing. Bigger things are going to happen. It is going back to the extra judicial killings of last year. The dictator and his people sat in shit and they think they can walk away without stench. Wait until Mungiki starts targeting politicians and their families and then politicians use police to settle scores. That is when we shall all know the meaning of a breakdown of law and order.

Meanwhile, I sincerely hope this cabinet works for real. It has been a long year already and Kenyans deserve and break from the misery. I hope IDPs are resettled as soon as possible. That should be the first order of business. Most of them are living a life of hellish misery.
Disband ECK. Hang Kivuitu (I offer to do that). I also hope that we address the issue of a new constitution that gives power to people and removes the power concentrated at the central government. Some call it Majimboism, I call it modern government.

  4. I still do not agree on execution of any human being/kenyan without trail- even murderers have to have their day in court and if we allow the police to continue with executing kenyans like chicken- you all might think you are safe- but next time it will be in your own back yard and the police will not be answerable to you why!! as kenyans no matter what we should not allow the law of the jungle take over our country or else we will regret- to my understand some of our police offers are thugs- so a thug killing a thug??? where did our law go to? does martha karua agree with the acts of the police offers executing the mungiki?? kenyans mark my words if we let this police offers go on killing spree's next it will be our own neighborhood and they will call us terrorists!! and they will get away with it!! the law states all kenyan have a right for trail in the courts- this should be the case with the mungiki's not executing them in cold blood!!

I unfortunately maintain my stand on Mungiki. Police will never be in my backyard because I will never ever extort money, or subdue women under the guise of following my tradition.
Mungiki have corrupted kikuyu tradition and are a band of criminals. Tell where is macabre killing part of Kikuyu tradition. If you read my post, I have not in any way condoned extra judicial killings. I have just said that I make no excuse or take no excuse from mungiki, they can rot in hell for all I care. Plus, why were mungiki in Eldoret, I mean we have enough crap in that part of the nation without anyone bringing more there!

Police killing mungiki to me is a case of two criminal gangs killing each other. The difference is I pay for one of the gangs (police). Additionally, Mungiki and police will always clash, they all extort money from kenyans and they are fighting for turf.

I have no sentiment for them, personally, I feel that it is two criminal gangs killing each other. In any other nation Mungiki will be terrorists. Tell me what is mungikis cause, what are they fighting for?

I guess when i read their demands on this leaflet?? they do not seem to be any different from what ordinary kenyans are asking for- but i guess some got into wrong dealings and also being used with politicians to do their dirty crimes- i see gangs all over the world- same break away and change in communities- but we have police who are also thugs- when they saw this gangs of youths start their crimes they joined them instead of stopping them and then add politicians- i was just saying- there must be a better way than execution- so who will
    execute the police??

    TPRM/TPDF - CENTRAL COMMITTEE

You are NOT fooling anyone with your cowardly emails. YOU ARE THE PROBLEM and NOT THE Solution to the Community’s terrible situation or the country’s equally terrible mess.

In the first place, you are Kibaki's sycophants and cheer leaders. You have blindly supported him on his journey to destroy the community and the country with his lack of leadership.

In the 2nd place you continue to divide the Kikuyu community into "haves"and "have not", Ngati na Itungati, Royal Families and Commoners.

Your sole mission now is to impose the children of those who have as leaders so that you can continue ruling the community from your graves. Your children are beneficiaries of the enormous wealth, which you have stolen from 1963 and before ’63, benefits given to you as bribes by the colonialists with whom you were collaborating. All these years, you have sucked our blood. You live on our sweat and you now have the audacity to style yourselves the saviours of our community!

In 1992, you conspired to stop Hon. Kenneth Matiba who cares for the poor and has no time for your class system from taking over as President. You, the “Royal Families” rallied behind Kibaki and formed D.P. at the 11th hour to split the Kikuyu vote. To you Moi was preferable to Matiba and his supporters who were “tumundu tutu” You do not care at all about the thousands displaced from their farms, businesses and properties. If truth be told, you do not care how many more are killed. All you care about is your hold on power to continue with your obscene accumulation. This is why even now you are leading the country to civil war and disintegration.

You have killed thousands of our young men whose only crime is being poor and unemployed on the pretext that you are “crashing”and wiping out “mungiki”. Only recently, you murdered Boniface Maina and his wife Elizabeth Nyambura in cold blood and dumped their bodies at Karura forest. Their young children are now orphans. And you entrusted the crashing to Kimendero the crusher to continue and finish the job he was doing in the 1950’s! You can rely on the pseudo mungiki youths who in truth are merchants on hire claiming the brand name mungiki.

Before on behalf of the Community we confront those in the country who think they can isolate and exterminate the Kikuyu community, we shall sort you out first. You are the Traitors to the community. Your stomachs is your only concern. When you are issuing your threats; do NOT for one moment think that you have the monopoly of violence. What you have is the wealth stolen from the masses and we shall come for that too. Do not ostracize one of your own Charles Mugane Njonjo because of his personal differences with Kibaki. He is one of you. The others are Emilio Mwai Kibaki, John Njoroge Michuki, James Njenga Karume, George Kamau Muhoho, Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta, constituting the House of Lords and the recently constituted cast of Maina Kamanda, Amos Kimunya, Martha Karua, George Thuo, Dick Wathika, Lee Muchiri, Beth Mugo, na kanda cianyu cia moko, Murathe, Muigai Njoroge and Kamau Ngunjiri. There are others. We know them all.

Inyui Inyuoothe ni-inyui thaata cia Ruriri na cia Bururi.

anon6:40 PM- here is what was in the daily nation- put two and two together- they went the wrong direction-if they want to live in the kenyan society in peace they have to change their ways- but also keep away from politics and politicians who use them!

    How this vicious group survives

    Story by PATRICK NZIOKA
    Publication Date: 4/15/2008
The Mungiki sect is a monster that has refused to be killed.

One of its unique characters that might explain why it has defied crackdowns by the authorities is its ability to mutate when faced with unfavourable conditions.

Since it surfaced in the 1990s, Mungiki has changed from being a religious grouping that called on the Kikuyu community to return to old ways of worship, to a criminal gang that uses the sword to push its agenda.

Initially, it resembled the Tent of the Living God sect led by Ngonya wa Gakonya that was very vocal before the first multi-party elections in 1992. The sect, however, faded away after the first multiparty elections.

In its early days, Mungiki was a harmless group. Members hired farms they tilled in parts of the Rift Valley.

They also engaged in practices like wearing dreadlocks, promoting female circumcision and inhaling snuff openly.

Later the group required members to take oaths and target those who left or stood in the way of its extortionist ways.

Violence, which it inflicts on its adversaries and perceived traitors, is one of its key strategies to pass its message to the authorities that “Yes, we are here and you can do nothing about it”.

One thing, for sure, is that they are well-organised and as a result the authorities are more often than not caught unawares every time they strike.

The group is understood to have come into existence with the support of politicians from Central Province, parts of the Rift Valley and Nairobi to defend the interests of the Kikuyu in the Rift Valley during the ethnic evictions of the 1990s.

A breakdown in the provision of social services including security during this period provided a good anchor for the group to thrive when it started offering such services at a fee.

In addition, it penetrated the matatu industry, making it a constant source of income.

The group can now easily finance its operations through various sources, including imposing illegal levies, especially in informal settlements within Nairobi and other major towns.

    Declared illegal

A meeting held by the group in 2001 in Thika marked a departure from the past. Observers say the group, which had earlier been declared illegal by the Government, was allowed to hold the meeting, which passed a resolution that the group would engage in politics and support candidates on various party tickets.

The sect, then led by Ndura Waruinge who later turned into a preacher, further agreed to support a presidential candidate who was below 45 years old and with a national outlook in the elections that were to follow the following year.

That candidate came to be the current Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta, who contested the presidency on a Kanu ticket. In a show of might, the group came out in large numbers onto the streets of Nairobi in support of Mr Kenyatta.

Since then, Mr Kenyatta has consistently denied any association with the group.

In between, the Government would launch a crackdown on the sect and even claim to have wiped it out but all they succeed in doing is to drive it underground, only for it to resurface with renewed vigour .

In one such exercise, the police managed to arrest sect leader Maina Njenga, who has since been imprisoned for five years for illegally possessing a firearm.

The crackdowns have not been easy for the police. In some of those exercises, they have taken the police head-on, leading to some officers sustaining injuries.

The group switched alliance when President Kibaki, whom they had bashed during the Thika meeting, went on to win the presidency in 2002.

Come the referendum on a new Constitution in 2005 and the group threw its weight behind President Kibaki in support of the new law which Kenyans, however, rejected.

    Massive crackdown

Despite their support for the Government, former Internal Security minister John Michuki launched a massive crackdown on the sect members following a series of killings attributed to them in Nairobi and other major towns in the country.

With the arrest of Njenga and the Government crackdown, the group went underground until recently, during the post-election violence, when they are believed to have been activated by Kikuyu politicians to cause mayhem in Naivasha, Nakuru and other parts of the country as they avenged the killing and displacement of Kikuyu ethnics in the Rift Valley.

Several days later, they staged a brazen march through the streets of Nairobi demanding the release of their leader, Njenga, as the Government was busy focusing on relocating hawkers from the streets.

  9. Kenyans you reap what you sow by rejecting the rule of law and advocating that it is okay to not adhear to the rule of law you destroyed a very important fabric in our society once we crossed that bridge unfortunately there is no going back what we are seeing now is just the begining of what was started after the elections. What is the difference between those protesting now and those that were doing the same thing earlier on in the year. Will people oppose the use of force against the Mungiki now, will one argue that the police should talk to these criminals and just tear gas them, What is the differnce between those people that were blocking roads and up-rooting railway lines previously and those that are doing it now. The only difference is that now it is closer to home, closer to the leafy suburbs of Nairobi where people sat and spoke and joked of war not realising that once pandoras box is opened there is no going back. In short my fellow Kenyans we reap what we sow, this is just the begining

  10. It was bound to happen. The Mungiki was going to start eating into itself. Chopping off a human head with a saw is most certainly Mungiki's style. And that is how Maina’s wife Virginia Nyakio died. If indeed it is the government that killed her as they claim, then it used hit men from within the gang. Which means there’s a possibility that the gang’s hierarchy and structure is changing. There might be a Mungiki to Mungiki turf war going on. These are no boy scouts and a spill over from an internal war will affect many more innocent Kenyans that it already has.

  11. WANT A CABINET POST? JUST CAUSE TERROR AND MAYHEM!!!

Mungiki have just borrowed a leaf from terror tactics of ODM. That's the only way to muscle your way into power. Just burn some cars, kill innocent people and our WIMP old git of a president will reward you handsomely, red carpet treatment and no questions asked.

Who can forget the raging inferno of the Eldoret church where young screaming kids were tossed back into fire as they tried to flee for their dear lives?

It's only in Kenya where crime pays. The guilty walk scot free while the innocent are executed in cold blood! It's just a matter of time before we hear calls for talks with murderous Mungiki sect and maybe some few cabinet posts dished out for them to cool them down. Even after the naming of the cabinet some ill-bred lunatics are still ranting and raving with unfounded claim and hate about PNU.

I vote for Ali Chirau and like most Miji-kenda people I support PNU. What I can’t get my head around here is; when will ODMdreamers realise they have been brainwashed and taken for a ride by power- thirsty leaders who offered nothing but false hope and empty promises. Another thing is, how foolish can one be - to believe by getting rid of one tribe all will be well.
Guess what, Kibaki is still the president, Kikuyus are still intact and I bet they will continue to prosper, Raila and Kibaki are going to make peace with each other and the foolish people like most of your bloggers will be left reeling.

Am not a kikuyu supporter but I think I have evolved from hate and stupidity that most of you are still cocooned into.

Peter Mbiyu Koinange, the MP for Kiambaa, was the head of the Provincial Administration and National Security. James Gichuru, the MP for Limuru, was the Minister for Defence. Mwai Kibaki, who was then the MP for Bahati in Nairobi, was the Finance minister. Dr Njoroge Mungai, the MP for Dagoretti, was the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Charles Njonjo, the ‘Duke of Kabeteshire’, was the AG.

They all hailed from the southern slopes of Mount Kenya. With the exception of Kibaki, who comes from Nyeri, the rest came from a single district, Kiambu.

On this day, 34 years ago, the Head of the Public Service and Secretary to the Cabinet was Geoffrey Kariithi. The Permanent Secretary in charge of the Ministry of Defence was Jeremiah Kiereini. The Commissioner of Police was Bernard Hinga. The Commandant of the General Service Unit was Ben Gethi.

The head of the Special Branch, the intelligence service, was James Kanyotu and the Director of the Criminal Investigations Department was Ignatius Nderi. Again, all these men were from the slopes of Mount Kenya.

What was the situation like in Kibaki’s Ministry of Finance? Nicholas Ng’ang’a was the permanent secretary. The Governor of the Central Bank was Duncan Ndegwa. The executive chairman of the Kenya Commercial Bank was John Michuki. The executive chairman of the National Bank of Kenya was Stanley Munga Githunguri while the boss of the Income Tax Department was a Mr Ihiga. Again, all these men were from the slopes of the great mountain

    Attention Chris!

I saw that article about blogs which was carried out in Nairobi Star, the world's worst newspaper. It's only then that it struck me how UGLY your blog's logo is! I've come across so many blogs but your logo deserves an oscar for being the most boring. It's so bland and uninspiring. On a positive vibe, the blog's content is the best, sharp, provocative, witty and informative. I hope you will take my criticism positively and act accordingly on the logo. Thanks for your co-operation on this matter.

  44. A few weeks ago, there were people here ranting about how the government will use GSU, riot police, admin police etc on unarmed ODM protestors. With duly appointed ministers and PNU "addicts" talking of rule fo the law.

Now most of these guys have gone silent, and Beth Mudo is "pleading" with an armed gang to "make peace with the government", a gang which is armed and is in the business of killing people.

  45. Naivasha and nakuru were just the starter so do not shed to many tears for the few that perished there because their numbers will be insignificant when this is finally over.

And for those that do not believe nairobi has its owners you have been shown who controls the city if you do not like it move !!

  46. This kwale fella is dim it hurts. The reason we study history or the past as you put it and I hope you did history in school is so that we understand the present and plan for the future. Now if we were stuck in the past as your..'the past is the past ...' statement suggests then we would not have gone along with RAO and his kibz tosha declaration and that is as recent as 2002 and kibz went and did what kenyatta did so infact we ignored the past and paid for it now we are just being more vigilant and that sir is not hating its the clever thing to do.
Please show some signs that your thinkg......
