Breaking News: Violence Erupts In Mungiki Strongholds

As you read this, police are battling Mungiki rioters in parts of Nairobi as tensions rise in Naivasha where roads have been blocked.

It is reported that 4 cars have been torched in Pipeline estate as bon fires have been lit in Dandora, Kayole, Zimmerman and Naivasha Road. All those are areas where the influence of the outlawed Mungiki sect is very high.

My sources on the ground in Naivasha tell me that tensions are very high in the town and the road to Nairobi was still blocked as I spoke to my informant a few minutes ago.

It is believed that the violence has to do with protests against the death of jailed Mungiki leader Maina Njenga's wife last week. Her body and that of the driver were found damped after they were reported to have been carjacked. Relatives say that they were tortured badly, but do not give details of what signs on the body led them to this conclusion.

Clearly that was no ordinary car jacking and killing. I am now following a few leads to determine what may have happened. Could somebody have been trying to provoke the Mungiki to violence for political reasons?

On Saturday the Mbagathi area (adjacent to the Kibera slums) was brought to a standstill as wailing women protested the killing of Mrs Njenga.

I will update this post the minute I get any further information.

Update at 11:18 Kenyan Time
Reports are trickling in of skirmishes in Nakuru and Nyahururu. I have no further information at this time because we got cut off with my informant just as we were starting our conversation. I will update you as soon as I am able to re-establish contact. However, again these are areas with strong Mungiki following.

It is also becoming abundantly clear that the Mungiki trouble was deliberately triggered off by somebody for political reasons. Get details in my raw notes this week (scroll to the bottom of the linked page to see how you can get my raw notes today)

Update at 2:10PM Kenyan Time
9 people have been killed so far countrywide as a result of what appears to have been very well co-ordinated Mungiki attacks targeting many major towns across the country. Attacks have so far been reported in Eldoret, Naivasha, Nakuru, Nyahururu, Othaya and Gatundu amongst other places. In Nairobi most major estates have been affected and transport affected for many Nairobians trying to get to work.

In Gatundu 3 people were brutally and mercilessly killed. A demonstration by a youth group in the town earlier today demanded the immediate release of Njenga so that he can bury his wife. As police dispersed the rowdy mob 3 people were shot and are believed to be seriously injured but in hospital.

Police spokesman Eric "Rambo Movie" Kiraithe called a press conference earlier today to ask Kenyans to remain calm because the situation was under control and the police had made numerous arrests.

P.S. In unrelated news, The Nairobi Star has today published a major feature on blogs where Kumekucha has prominently been mention.

  1. I can understand their plight although I don't condone it. There has been too much extra judicial Killings going on as highlighted by Maina Kiai and KNHC. This should be seen as demonstration against murders of innocents and respect for sanctity of human life.

In the last 3 years, over 500 LEGALLY innocent Kikuyu youths youths have been 'arrested' by police on suspicion of being Mungiki members only to end up being executed in cold blood in various parts especially Karura Forest off Kiambu Rd.

No one has been apprehended or convicted over these barbaric killings although the first duty of any sensible Govt is to protect the lives of it's citizens. Gen Ali still maintains a stiff upper lip over these troubling developments just like his boss hoping things will fade into oblivion.

Yes Mungiki members are senseless and callous animals, but cold blood executions will only beget more violence. Mungiki is clearly a nightmare which was created by politicians but now this ogre is too big and strong to be contained..it's coming back to haunt us all.

The disbanded Rhino, Kwekwe and now Cobra sqaud have lots of explanation to do over their inability to execute worthwhile investigations into Mungiki's metamorphosis. Although the slain Mungiki leader's wife may not have been that innocent, did her killers have to gang rape her first before chopping off her neck? That's according to medical record which is very believable in violent Kenya. I hope the culprits will be haunted by their horrendous actions every night... till their dying day!

  4. We are reaping the fruits of impunity. Of our ability to excuse election theft and mass murder.

foolishly we think that a bloated goverment will solve our problems. So in Jan-Feb it was Kel warriors killing innocents..now its mungiki...by december we will have hundreds of these gangs each running their own corner of the country. And the grand nonsense about sijui PM sijui energy ministry will seem like a joke

  5. Sponsors of these thugs are to blame.

Kenyans are known worldwide to be peace loving.

USA and UK politicians are plying chase in Kenya.

That`s why Mugabe is so stubborn to let the western countries take over Zimbambwe.

  6. THE KENYATTA'S CURSE!

So a grand coalition govt was named yesterday and we all thought that peace would prevail back into our beloved nation, didn't we? How wrong could we have been! Mungiki thugs are back-- with a bang!

The simple reason why Kenya seems to be limping from one crisis to another is simple- it's the Kenyatta curse, stupid. Kenyatta is widely believed to have said that the presidency should never ever cross north of River Chania.

So when Kibaki who is from Nyeri north of R.Chania took over, he was in a wheel chair after a horrible accident in Ukamabni and even up to today, he has never fully recovered!

And his Govt has never known anything called peace! From Narc collapse, to land clashes, First Lady (ladies!!) crisis, ethnic cleansing, mega corruption scandals, tension, near geneocide, armed thugs like SLDF, Mungiki, chinkororo...I could go on till morning.

This is all due to the KENYATTA'S CURSE. In our African Traditional Beliefs, an old man's wish especially of Kenyatta's stature cannot be ignored. I just hope that KUMEKUCHA could dig more on this well publicized curse and tell us what led to it and when it was cast!

Kenya will limp from the frying pan into fire until Kenyatta's wish is respected. It can no longer be swept under the carpet anymore. Chris...over to you!

  7. Go back with me in time to the debacle of the presidential election result and the period just before 28th February, 2008...

Not long ago, I wrote that Mr. Kibaki's seeming indecision over the cabinet discussion was a ploy to delay himself in absolute power; and I followed on that article with another one that suggested that Mr. Kibaki had managed to fool Mr. Raila and minimized the ‘enigma’ to an ordinary politician.

Go back with me in time to the debacle of the presidential election result and the period just before 28th February, 2008. Consider with me the public acceptability and the international good-will that Mr. Raila enjoyed. Enter Mr. Kofi Annan’s pronouncement “we have a deal”, the signing of the accord, and the passing of the accord bill and the subsequent talks of a 50-50 government. Next consider Mr. Raila's performance on the public inquiry over the mysterious Safaricom shareholder Mobitelea and his concession to Mr. Kibaki’s demand for a bloated cabinet against public agitation for “no more than 24 cabinet ministers”. Fast track to a couple of days ago when Mr. Kibaki’s brigade pulled a quick one on Mr. Raila’s through a theatrical threat to call for an election. What could have been the wind beneath the wings of Mr. Kibaki’s lieutenants?

First, throughout the reconciliation dialogue, Mr. Kibaki played a hermit and the time card to allow Kenyans to calm down over their disillusionment about the flawed presidential election’s result.

Second, following the signing of the peace accord, Mr. Kibaki made sure that Raila was quickly given the trappings of power to soil the ‘people’s president’.

Third, by all means necessary Mr. Kibaki worked on sanitizing and legitimizing his presidency, surprisingly with the complicit help of Mr. Raila and as soon as Mr. Kibaki mustered some public confidence he quickly jettisoned from Statehouse and started working from the official president’s office at Harambee house.

Fourth, Mr. Kibaki's flip flop on the cabinet talks was a political survival strategy and another ploy at capitalizing the time factor.

Time and again, I heard Raila in our media condemn hardliners that allegedly were pushing a well intentioned Mr. Kibaki to stall on the cabinet progress and wondered how Mr. Raila had quickly grown gullible. Who was the hardliner in Mr. Kibaki's camp? Is it Kimunya, Is it Uhuru? Is it Karua? Is it Saitoti? or could it be Muthaura?. The answer is none other than Kibaki's mirror image!

Mr. Kibaki’s seeming detachment from the goings-on might have to assume the meaning of a hardliner. Political negotiation is a "give and take" affair; however, in the case of Raila and Kibaki negotiations, I am dismayed at how easily Mr. Raila allowed the scale to tilt in favor of Mr. Kibaki even at the risk of disenfranchising his political base- the masses!

In the grand coalition, Mr. Kibaki managed to retain the contentious Ministries such as Finance, Foreign Affairs and Internal Security, turned ministry departments into full ministries such as Nairobi Metropolitan Development and hived off various ministry functions such as Medical Services which he doled off to ODM remorselessly. It is now official that Mr. Kibaki has fooled Mr. Raila.

Kenyan after your anxious grand wait for a grand coalition, behold a grand fiasco from Mr. Kibaki the biggest cabinet in Kenya’s history, 94 in all, with the blessing of Mr. Raila. I urge you all Kenyans; do not be fooled into accepting this lying down. Do not be fooled that the price of peace is to starve so as support special social welfare program for the political class.

Ministry of health. education.:-) ministry of higher education and science and technology. Where did these ministry go. ? In fact raila and ODM Have gone to ministry that deal with the mass and any changes will be noticed in less than six months. All ministy taken by PNU have very little to do with the mass. But are prone for corruption. Watch this space. Will know very soon who runs the government. Next time you see Kibaki wil be MADARAKA DAY. He will be out shine badly.

  10. Was there not somebody from the Kenyan Diaspora telling us that they had collected millions of dollars to finance a war in Kenya until Kibaki is chased out of office? Maybe we see the beginnning of this craziness by certain people who are themselves interested to enter politics in the near future right now. Maybe it is too easy and too soon to put all the blame on the Mungiki - maybe we should look further and try to find the root and financial resources to all this. Somebody has supplied people with weapons, somebody who has his own interest in mind. You don't have to look far. His name has come up here quite regularly expressing again and again his hate for all Kikuyus, Kenyatta and Kibaki and especially his wife Lucy who is the center of the book Her Excellency.

  11. Mungiki is not ragtag unit. they have much better intelligence than some would care to admit and they organise in proper cells of 50 with a platoon commander and tax collectors.

The police should investigate this murders because even if its Maina Njenga's wife, she is still innocent till proven guilty.

The menace will not go away by us wishing it away. politicians seem to like the numbers only when we are voting for them but forget (In case of Mungiki) we are also many unemployed youths.

    The war has just began

  13. This is getting ugly. Police have to find a way to get rid of Mungiki in a humane way. But, given the kind of dunderheads that are leaders in the police force, that can only be a dream. They should pull the army from Mt. Elgon where they are busy harassing innocent people and flush out the Mungiki instead.

I TOTALLY DISAGREE WITH YOU- ON THE CABINET AND MINISTRIES ODM DID VERY WELL THEY WERE STRATEGIC ENOUGH TO GET WHAT THEY WANTED MOST MINISTRIES THAT AFFECT THE PEOPLE OF KENYA SERVICE DELIVERY:) I TINK YOU ARE THE PNU SUPPORTERS WHO STILL THINK THAT FOREIGN AFFAIRS AT THINS POINT WITH ELECTIONS LOOMING IS AN IMPORTANT MINISTRY- ODM DID NOT WANT MINISTRIES ALREADY WITH SCANDALS LIKE FINANCE, SECURITY E.T.C BUT THEY HAD TO PUSH HARD IN ORDER TO GET WHAT THEY WANTED EXACTLY!! KIBAKI AND HIS PNU DID NOT WIN- SORRY MY BE IN YOUR AND THEIR OWN WAY OF THINKING:)

I TOTALLY AGREE WITH THIS INDIVIDUALS ANALYSIS!!!!

There are so many bizarre things in this cabinet. The size is outrageous of course, but we knew that was coming even when PNU tried that 20 cabinet joke and the ODM tried their 30 or less gimmick. So there both sides suck.

There are so many useless ministries it is not funny. Let's start with that Public Health Ministry. That is a department in the Ministry of Health now called Medical Services. It is a ministry that will have some nominal budget if any and will have no impact. It is basically a flag for Beth Mugo.

Then we have Nairobi Metropolitan ministry. Already they have Local Government and NCC. Basically I see this ministry as just another flag for Kalonzo's boy Mitula Kilonzo. It is a pity what they have done to Kalonzo. Why not give Mitula the Justice and Constitutional Affairs docket where his skills can be used. Kibaki has basically skinned Kalonzo alive. Talk about betrayal. This is extreme.

Many of the other ministries could easily have been merged and we could have ended up with the desired 24. But that is water under the bridge now. I am sure the pressure against public waste is going to continue.

The big surprise for me was James Orengo as the Lands Minister. Land issues are going to dominate the next five years. Land reforms, resettlement of IDPs, dealing with stolen land, land grabbers, the Ndung'u report, idle land etc. Orengo is the perfect candidate to tackle this thorny matter once and for all.

Prof. Nyong'o as the Health Minister is a good move. Nyong'o is a hell of a good planner. He has foresight and he is probably the right person to tackle all the vested interests in that ministry. I think that was a good call for the country.

Ngilu also looks good in Water & Irrigation. She can have tremendous impact on the lives of Kenyans from every part of the country, particularly in the rural communities. It is a perfect ministry for Ngilu.

Kibaki keeps his key ministries of Internal Affairs, Foreign Affairs, Finance and Constitutional Affairs. Here the ODM goofed. They gave up the Foreign Affairs and should have insisted on Constitutional Affairs in exchange, but it seems they preferred Local Government. My take though is that the constitutional change process will be controlled from outside the cabinet. If we leave the cabinet to propel constitutional reforms, nothing will happen. Internal Affairs is theirs but I doubt they will use it again to rig elections.

The big deal for Kibaki there is keeping Finance and the strange thing is the choice of Dr. Oburu as his single assistant. As we know assistant ministers do not do much but they have direct access to information in their ministries. I don't think Kimunya is going to be a happy man having Oburu right inside the Treasury with his nose everywhere. Oburu started poorly in his first term but is emerging as a very dedicated M.P. he has been in PAC for along time and knows the operations of the treasury very well. They can't fool him around. Oburu was actually a planner in Kisumu town before entering politics so he knows a thing or two about budgets

ODM got the infrastructure ministries they wanted but Kibaki could not give them Energy. That was a big win for Kibaki to protect power sector and allied as well as have a foothold on oil prospecting going on where big contracts are coming up. It is going to be upto Raila as the PM to pay very close attention to that docket and Kiraitu being a pragmatic fella is going to make sure he stays in the good books with his boss.

ODM getting Agriculture with someone like Ruto who is known to have smarts and good work ethic is a good move. Ruto knows he is under a lot of scrutiny and I think he is going to work as hard as he can to stand out in that key ministry.

I am personally going to be on the case of the Fisheries guy. That ministry could transform lives in Western Kenya ( Nyanza, Busia), the the Turkana area and at the Coast. In the past the Fisheries docket was basically ignored and yet the income generated from fisheries is huge and can even be doubled if some fresh ideas and resources are brought to bear.

Overall the size of the cabinet ruins anything good one might want to say about this new cabinet but from a political point of view, ODM has done very well. They have done perfect regional balancing. All their key constituencies are well taken care of. I don't know about having Omingo Magara as an Assistant Minister in the DPM. That is weird but may be there is something they know that that we don't.

The other thing ODM has done is to rope in a few independents like Onyonka, Mwau and a few others to ensure that they have the votes to protect the PM against any mischief from Kibaki and PNU. ODM now has a healthy majority with their new allies and will basically control parliamentary agenda except on issues where they need two thirds majority. That is the silent bomb in this cabinet. ODM takes a commanding control of the lagislature with the Speaker as well. They have no excuse whatsover not to initiate major changes and influence the direction. Basically nothing can pass in parliament without the approval of ODM, not even the budget. We have to push them now to set up proper parliamentary oversight.

ODM should set up a team with the likes of James Orengo, Abu Namwamba and a few others to form a team that will explore all possible parliamentary reform iniatives and set up their parliamentary agenda. The ODM effectively has the parliament at their fingertips. They have to take that very seriously and we are going to be on their case for that.

Politically Kalonzo has been smoked. They do not have a single ministry of any significance but expect Kalonzo to put a brave face but he is in a lot of trouble. Also the Uhuru move now makes it clear the myth that PNU may rally around Kalonzo in the Kibaki secession equation has now been exploded. Uhuru is Kibaki's preferred successor.

Ford Kenya is equally smoked. Wetangula stuck on to the Foreign Affairs. The best he can do there knowing the way Ford K operates is to get a few relatives some jobs in the diplomatic corps etc. Kombo is headed to the back bench. It is strange that Shoita Shitanda who is allied to ODM was given back his Housing docket.

The next big thing now is to see how this humongous cabinet gets to work for the whole country and forget their party allegiances and work as a team with so many challenges. Reconstruction is number one including the IDP issues. There is a looming food crisis in the country. The health infrastructure is a mess and already cholera is wreaking havoc in the country. We have the katiba issue as a defining agenda for the country.

The big elephant in the house of course is to see how the role of the PM fits in all that has to be done. Constitutionally Raila is now in charge of the cabinet and all aspects of running the functioning of the government. Technically Kibaki can go back to State House and just show up to chair cabinet meetings every week. The first task is going to be developing a plan of action may be a sessional paper with a clear agenda of the key priorities for the GCG and some time lines.

I know people may be disappointed but we will take it from here. There is a lot of work a head. At best this is a temporary government. The constitutional battle is going to strain it to the limits. So I can for see a lot of tremors and a lot of storm to be weathered.

  15. ON mungiki, anybody could have guessed this was going to happen!! i mean from when they demonstrated in nairobi accusing some kikuyu leaders e.t.c

but my question is why are they attacking other kenyans??? why not the police who killed them and the leaders wife or those MP's who signed a deal with them and have not paid back???
if i were them i would not attack innocent kenyans but go for those who executed my people !!period!!

exactly i agree with you, Why are they hurting ordinary kenyans??? mungiki should be smart enough to go for those that are their enemies and not innocent kenyans who are not the ones who executed them!! call a spade a spade and go for those who slaughtered your brothers in cold blood instead of allowing the law ssytem to sort it out!! nobody is surposed to be killed like a chicken.

and in any case in their leaf-lets that they distributed they were complain about exactly the same issues that all kenyans were complaining about - land- jobs -no equal distribution of wealth e.t.c and this is why their young men have enter crime!! doest this happen all over the world ? even in America look at the young blacks especially no jobs the enter the world of drugs and guns!!

anyway i maintain they should go after those who executed them in cold blood!!!

  17. Chris,

I see the Mugiki issue as a special interest one, just like Ogiek's, Mt. Elgon, the small tribes, disabled, etc. What makes them violent is coz the political class has misused them and then dumped them, time and again. They obviously have some grievances, whether genuine or not, and all it will take is someone to listen to them and engage them. The current police strategy of using (excessive)force whenever mugiki strikes can at best be only counter-productive. And the mugiki problem continues to worsen.

  18. Police and gang members fought running battles in Naivasha, a town about 60 miles to the northwest of the capital along the road.

In the western town of Eldoret, senior police officer Muinde Kioko said that two Mungiki supporters had been badly beaten by members of the public and 16 had been arrested.

Within the capital, gang members manned roadblocks of burning tires and pulled people out of vehicles. Local resident Cliff Owino said vehicles in the slum of Mathare were being stoned and gunshots were heard.

Several burned-out, smoldering cars were blocking roads and about a dozen riot police with shields and masks were patrolling a main roundabout littered with broken glass and the blackened shell of a minibus.

"This now is all because of the Mungiki," said Peter Nyaga, who works at a milling factory. "They are everywhere here."

The Mungiki, a quasi-religious sect linked to a string of beheadings, promote the culture of the Kikuyu, Kenya's largest tribe. Gang members say they were also approached by politicians to act as an ethnic militia during the violence following Dec. 27's disputed elections in which over 1,000 people died. Kiraithe rejected those claims.

  19. mungiki should go on national T.V and explain what really happened and who they met with for kenyans to ear their side of story - i mean why not?? every country has gangs but it depends on who is supporting them and who has been hiring them to do the dirty crimes- if i were them i would use the media to say exactly why and who!!

    ReplyDelete
  20. GOOD IDEA- INSTEAD OF BEING EXECUTED AND GUNNED DOWN SENSLESSLY WITH THE SAME POLICE WHO ASK THEM TO DO CRIMES OR SOME LEADERS WHO USE THEM- I WOULD DO EXACTLY THAT- LET KENYANS HEAR WHO EXACTLY HIRED THEM FOR THE CRIMES DURING ELECTIONS - THIS MIGHT BRING EVERYTHING IN THE OPEN- THAT IS THE WAY TO GO?? SO THEY SHOULD GET SOMEONE TO HIDE AND GET THE INTERNATIONAL MEDIA OR INDEPENDENT JOURNALIST HEAR THEIR SIDE OF STORY- I DON'T TRUST THE LOCAL MEDIA TO AIR IT!!

    ReplyDelete
  21. hey i guess you are right- because they are throwing claims around and the police is denying all that- why not go look for a chance or tape it on a tape and distribute it to all media houses- i mean get someone to drop it off- i would use Al jaseer -cnn, bbc and other international media houses- you are right the local media will not air it- so let it get out- kenyans will get it online or something- that is the way to go and get the truth out as soon as possible instead of rioting and hurting innocent kenyans!!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Yes, all the local media that were so happy reporting clashes in ODM areas are not saying anything about the Mungiki mayhem. Haya, wanafiki hao (media).

    ReplyDelete
  23. ofcourse the local media will be scared to air it if it is damging to the kibaki governmet or people in his government- but this issues have to be addressed the claims are there- so why not get some of the mungiki members on tape who were involved in nakuru and naivasha to state exactly how they were approached on tape and what they were offered and told to do and in exchange of what??
this will explain to kenyans their anger- at least people will be able to understand why they feel betrayed- if they go on rioting they are giving the same people a chance to gun them down in cold blood! no need just go and put your information out their because there are many way to do it- on tape e.t.c if they go on rioting they will just be gunned down and what is the point??
i'M NOT SAYING THEY DID THE RIGHT THING TO ALLOW THEMSELVES TO BE USED BY PEOPLE- BUT YET THEY ARE NOT ANIMALS TO BE KILLED LIKE CHICKEN EXAMPLE LAST YEARS EXECUTIONS- THE COURTS ARE THEIR AND THE JAILS SYSTEM IS IN KENYA FOR THAT PURPOSE- WHY EXECUTE??

    ReplyDelete
  24. KENYAZURI
that is why i say the mungiki must get their story out in the open and name names - of the people who have been using them to do their dirty crimes- as far as i read the leaf-lets tey distributed during their demonstrations they were asking for the same things all kenyans have been asking for- jobs - equal distribution of wealth, the land issues e.t.c and those are no difference from what everyone in kenya is asking for- but something went wrong last year or they were approach(youth) i believe even for them to have that ring of collecting money from the matatu operators they must be sharing with some in in the government who protected them and allowed them to do that and many other crimes- so they should come and and say who exactly was using them?? this is the time to come out clean in order to live in kenya in harmony without being executed left right and center!!
who and why was their leaders wife killed- a mother of 3?? it does not make sense!! koigi wamwera said yesterday that the police killed her and why should he be saying that unless he has full information
and if mungiki does not come out in the open this time?? why live a life of execution in kenya your own country??

    ReplyDelete
  25. siku ya mwizi ni 40- those who were shouting loudest are now not talking- where is Martha karua to condone them now?? i thought i would be seeing her on BBC saying this are crimes against humanity- where is she now with her hardliner stand eh???

maybe the mungiki's should look for maina kiai- he is the one who brought their execution story in the lime- light- but if i were them like the individual here has posted- use international media and post a tape on every thing that has happened and who they have been approached by in the kenya- it might be also some business people using them!!

    ReplyDelete
  26. HEY THEY SHOULD BE SMART TOO- GO PUBLIC AND SAVE OTHERS FROM EXECUTION FROM THIS TRIGGER HAPPY POLICE? DIDN'T THEY KNOW THAT THIS SAME POLICED WOULD BE USED AGAINST THEM??

  29. tell me

what exactly is the difference between the activities of mungiki vs that of the mt elgon militia?

and secondly what is the difference in state response on the two groups?

is their such stark differences between an urban and rural based group?

but most importantly, why does this government, just love moving from one crisis to another under media blackout, almost like any newsworthy item (conclusion of cabinet ping-pong, mediation, KNEC etc) almost naturally is used to hide some state sponsored atrocity elsewhere.

ODM is now going to be part of this government and will take barbs even though many will have no clue what's going on in the dark dingy PNU power corridors.

  30. Hey wacha! what are the government hiding??? by executing the mungiki, that is the question kenyans should be asking- you see if you allow a government to execute kenyans at their pleasure! today it will the mungiki's tomorrow it will be in your own back yard whether you live in western, nyanza, coast or Rift valley it will not matter because if the police get away with executing the mungiki's then kenyans are giving them the ticket to do that all over kenya!! just think about it- you might think now it does not affect you or your province or people but tomorrow the same excuse could be used on your own for demonstrating or asking for their rights in which ever form!!

  31. If you examine the way Mrs Njega was killed, you would come to know that it is unlikely the police have killed her but I can't rule out their involvement. I doubt whether the police will take all the time to mutilate her and slit her throat. They will simply shoot her at the back of the head like they used to do and dump her. Also, this could be frustration especially since it came AFTER Kibaki announced the new cabinet. Could it be that someone promised them something after being used and dumped them? Your guess is as good as mine.
