Breaking News: Has Raila's Security Detail Been Withdrawn?

Although recent developments indicate that Prime Minister designate Raila Odinga's state security detail may have been withdrawn there is still no confirmation of this from Police headquarters as the police spokesman has refused to comment on the matter.

Raila's wife Ida Odinga complained this morning that the security personnel have been changed too many times in the few days that the odinga's have been accorded state security. This has meant that she has to show around total strangers in their Karen house every two days or so.

As I was writing this security personnel withdrawn early today had still not been replaced by a new batch, hence the suspicion that this time the security personnel may have been withdrawn for good.

Even if the state security is indeed still in place the behaviour described by Ida is very strange. Overhauling the entire security staff every few days is in itself a huge security risk to those being protected by it. Indeed the Odingas previously had their own fairly adequate security and the terrifying ordeal of having one's minders playing musical chairs on the job is very unfortunate.

Some political analysts could not help commenting on the sheer joy and glee Raila supporters have received his new "motorcade and state security status" with. Others have felt that coming so soon, it may have been an attempt to soften the ODM leader's stance on some difficult fine details in the Anan peace deal that are still being negotiated.

Indeed Kenyans are waiting with baited breath for news on what has been discussed in parliament today after the bombshell "government clarification" statement by head of the civil service and secretary to the cabinet Ambassador Francis Muthaura, yesterday.

We will keep you posted on developments.

  2. Yes, the dogs of war are at it again. May God have mercy on Kenya. Who can be trusted to stand up for the common Kenyans? Something must be very wrong, I can smell a rat.

  3. Someone advised us when the deal was signed that we shouldnt celebrate just yet...looks like he saw it coming. there is something very wrong with these MT Kenya Mafia's, maybe the seceding thing is worth recalling so that all Kenyans can move foward and confine the rest to their mt kenya island. They think that what kenyans are seeing in Mt. Elgon is enough to scare everyone including RAO and his Petagon Cliks. I think we better sort out this Mt K Mafias once and for all.

  6. as said many times

kibaki is a conman par excellence, the regular old style money doubler is green with envy at how this guy can con all the opposition as well as local and international political chiefs and scientists and still come out looking his old humble and docile (cannot hurt a fly) self.

  7. ohoooooooo..........tell me that is not true. Raila has to be very careful otherwise Kenya is heading for bad times.

  8. Raila got punked. What can we say. I thought he would be dead by now. the whole Mt Elgon fiasco is not an accident. It is an excuse to get the army in RV to quell violence because they are preparing to pull out of the powersharing deal. Lets wait and see.

  9. If PUNU reneges, the people of Kenya also have an option reneging , so we go the Lesotho way.
Why do these people want to be begged like the earth revolves around them??
If they are too important for us we can also be too important for them, kwani???

  10. Dont be surprise if you hear that Raila and Ruto are arrested in connection with the post election violence.
I cannot wait to see this happening.

    Kama ni mbaya iwe hivyo!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please chris....or whoever has news, tell us more.

If this is spoilt, it will be bad news I tell you.

  11. I wonder why as astute a politician that Raila is, with all his tactical prowess would let his nemesis take charge of his security.
Theses MKM are really joking with Kenyans. The Lesotho option is still open and this time it will be for real.

These games are dangerous; they do nothing for the fragile peace in Kenya.

  15. It is not easy to detect death coming our way, right? Let me ask you ODMer’s; don’t you all foresee somebody getting shot soon?

I mean, the folks pretending to be now giving protection to Raila are the same folks who killed lawmaker Were and Too. The same folks are under a commander who was directed and implemented the shoot to kill idea by the very one claiming to be head of state. How many signs is Raila waiting to see before he is made to face what Were faced? Our Kenyan police are killers who at the same time are investigators and protectors. Come on folks. Somebody better warn Raila and his crews. Elimination factor is the game now for the PNU’s. Divide and rule is what they will implement. I think the ODM guys are still on the loosing side unless otherwise.

  16. I hope the new speaker will follow up on his promise to deliver televised parliamentary debates live to Kenya.

I woke up eager for news from Kenya but there is not a word and Google news is not helping.

  17. PNU caucused for Ruto as DPM and went behind scenes to convince Mudavadi to in their camp. Once they are asured of this, they might be planning to execute RAO and console ODM with Mudavadi as the exec PM while Ruto to be DPM. The advantage of this for the PNU is that Mudavadi is a puppet to them and they can easily manipulate him to their advantage. Again, they would be happy not to have shared any power with RAO. It was stated in one of the blogs that, while ODM is busy celebrating the deal, PNU are busy planning to rattle ODM. The ODM leaders need to stay focussed and let go this debate of who to be who at this time till they really get it. They must not be distracted on the course of what the whole country faught for. Somebody please advice ODM to be aware that to this point, kibaki has all the power to do anything till the constitution provides otherwise. He can Kill anybody in Kenya and say it is mungiki, remember.

  18. All of us without exception were fooled. It is only the mt kenyas who knew the plan to get the world's eye away from Kenya b4 they can reclaim imperial power.

How stupid could we all have been?

  19. We are all reading Karua in this turnaround of events, but could she simply be part of an elaborate diversion? Think about it, who is the LAST word in Kibaki's govt? I'll give you a hint - ask a certain Imanyara.

Chris, the 'security' in Raila's homes were really there on a bugging mission. Raila needs to have his homes, cars and phones swept for bugs asap. Recall the Annan hotel fiasco? In any case, he MUST NOT hold any sensitive discussion at home.

  20. BBC Africa reports that parliament voted to SPEED the process of the relevant bills which means they could be passed as early as next week.

All four that is, including the Ethnic Relations Bill that forbids one in a position to hire from stacking the relevant institution with people from his/her ethnic group.

  22. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY AFRICANS FORGET HOW PATRICE LUMUMBA DIED.

THIS GUY WAS EXTRACTED FROM THE UN SECURITY FORCES THAT WERE SUPPOSEDLY GUARDING HIM; WENT THROUGH HORRIFIC ORDEAL AS HE WAS FLOWN ON THE AIRCRAFT PILOTED BY THE BELGIAN SOLDIERS WHILE BEING BEATEN ON THIS PLANE BY SELECTED AFRICAN CONGOLESE ARMY MEN.

EXCEPT FOR HIS TEETH THAT WAS KEPT BY A BELGIAN SOLDIER WHO FINISHED HIM OFF AS "TROPHIES", LUMUMBA'S BODY HAS NEVER BEEN RECOVERED BECAUSE IT WAS BURNED TO ASHES!!

YOU CAN NEVER PUT YOUR TRUST IN HANDS OF YOUR ADVERSARIES, PARTICULARLY, IF THE ADVERSARIES FEEL THEY HAVE MORE TO LOSE COMPROMISING WITH YOU. THIS IS A TRAP AND RAILA AND HIS COLLEAGES MUST HAVE JUST WALKED RIGHT INTO IT!!

  23. Let's not kid ourselves - the international community isn't about to walk away from this.

  24. The mad men are at it again!!!
Lord help us all. I have been getting positive vibes from MK so methinks he felt pushed to a corner so he onad he had to go with the peace deal. It's peeps around him especially cabinet and civil service jamaas who actually stand to loose their jobs who are still bickering. If you look at this whole ati power sharing deal you'll find that Kibaki barely looses anything as he get's his full stolen term and actually, he still hires and fires all only that Raila advises on the appointment of half of the cabinet. So let Muthaura scream his head of he doesn't change anything. We can only hope that the constitutional amendment part of the deal is the one that will be tricky to get to pass because of the 65% thingy. Kenya, hold your breath and for those who pray do so!

  25. RAILA SHOULD RECRUIT HIS OWN SECURITY led by Nyaseda or Abongo.

These Mungiki people signed an MoU with Kibaki before 2002 elections. Kibaki is a Mungiki and can not be trusted at all.

  26. WE DONT NEED CENTRAL KENYA to EXIST.

WP,NYANZA,COAST,NEP,NAIROBI,RV and EP are interested in peace. Only Central Province wants civil war.

Let Kenyans join hands and build a nation ready to live in peace with one another.

  27. Laurent Kabila was shot to death by his own body guard. Most likely, the doomed man was given money to do that job! Immediately he finished his job on Kabila, someone shot him before he could be interogated.

The ODM, if they are still together, must find their own security. Otherwise they are doomed! Already, there is armed assault both by air and land being carried out by the armed forces against the people of Mt. Elgon area. This should not be happening if a peaceful negotiation of the all land issues is to be found.

    http://www.eastandard.net/news/?id=1143983121&cid=159

It looks like the Annan's negotiation was merely a facade that gave PNU a window of opportunity to regroup and the go on the rampage. THEY ARE ON THE RAMPAGE AS WE SPEAK AND ODM HAS BEEN BAMBOOZLED!!

  33. Fidel! I know you like Kumekucha.Tell Dad that he needs to restore his private security and that of Mama too. it's true, those punks brought in to act as security detail are dirty and are under orders to spy and collect intelligence and possibly try and harm your zakes.

Though its true that Kibaki's pals are said to have lambasted him for entertaining Agwambo too much and ridiculing them in the process, Agwambo needs to remain vigilant and should never drop his guard. These mofo's are upto trouble.Kenyans should resist it by all means.

Oh yeah, by the way, John Ruo, I know you CID guys are always reading this blog trying to "gather info".BuLLcrap,Tel Muthaura Kenya will stoke him in ultimate barbeque.

  34. These guys in their twilight years do not give a crap about Kenya. They tend to behave like they do not have kids, relatives, brothers, sisters that will live there once they are gone. You can only play with the mind of a sane person only for a punctuated period, and then insanity sets in.At which point they will wish they never unleashed that monster, one that will be close to impossible to can.

  35. From the east African standard... when Muthaura says that ODM should not politicize the civil service this is what PNU MPs are demanding from his backyard..what hogwash

"From Meru, nine MPs signed a memorandum to President Kibaki demanding more Cabinet and senior Civil Service appointments on account of the fact outside central Kenya, the region gave Kibaki 520,000 votes and nine MPs, the third highest pro-Kibaki voter block after Rift Valley that gave him 618,911 out of the 4.5 million cast for him."
