Yes We Have a Deal, So What Next?

Promptlly seizing an opportunity marks the difference between failure and true success. That is an apt message for Kibaki and Raila after signing a political deal. The hard work of reclaiming Kenyan starts now and doing it before now will go along way to re-assure the emotionally and physically wounded to on their value as Kenyans.

Kibaki and Raila must seize this opportunity to show TRUE LEADERSHIP bereft of malice or dirty tricks. Past political tension and suspicion can only be address by honest and focused leadership by example and from in front. Rising above the fray will a shame ethnic purists who must also be made to appreciate the beauty and fruits of diversity over division.

Kenya must turn the past crisis on its head as a launch pad to WHOLESOME and EQUITABLE prosperity for all her citizens. There would be no better befitting tribute to those who have died recently and before for justice. True, some those deaths and incarceration have been unfair and products of excesses.

Unity in diversity
Acknowledging a weakness is strength unto itself. As we wait for Annan and his team to complete his mediation work we must NOT wait to start the healing process. Let us derive utmost motivation to move on from our national pain for the last two months. Unity in diversity must be our clarion call and we must collectively vow to shun empty and chauvinistic pronouncements NOW.

Humility is an irreplaceable pillar in leadership as exhibited by Kofi Annan. Kibaki and Raila must take cue and start uniting Kenya now. They would start this by jointly visiting the internally displaced people in their camps to assure them of putting structures in place within a timetable to address the root cause that is LAND.

Time waits for no man and before the truth and reconciliation commission is up and running, we must not leave room for political suspicion and scheming. We have been BITTEN HARD and it is incumbent upon us a nation to dust ourselves up and showcase to the world that we appreciate their concern for Kenya. We owe it to ourselves and the future generation.

Making a difference
We have a unique opportunity to redefine Kenya. Such luck never knocks at anybody's door twice. As a Kenyan start now by doing whatever is within your powers to make a difference. Ask yourself each day what small thing you have done to any other Kenyan to his or her life better. I rest my case and over to you Kenyans.

After all is said & done, that is Kazi imeanza after the proper constitutional reforms have been undertaken..there should be FREE & FAIR ELECTIONS as some News Sources are Implying, then we can kick out PNU into Oblivion once & for all, never to be mentioned again. Thats next on the agenda!!!

p.s overheard.."tulijua Raila ni Rais sasa wamempatia PM pia?"

  2. How long will it take to debate on that. Two-thirds required??? But you should know that it is to be done under the current constitution.

Soon, ODM and governemnt will have equal seats in parliament and the armtwisting and threats by raila wioll be no more.

    ReplyDelete
  3. What arm twisting and threats? Aren't your beloved's the ones assassinating ODM MPs? Kenya has no choice - the world is still watching. Just lick your wounds in the corner. There is to be an amendment and it will happen. You didn't expect what happened today to pass did you? Guess what? It did. Keep praying for failure, but Kenya is moving forward.

  5. Stop consioling yourself with cheap confidence. You have been talking of Kibaki resigning and Kibaki geting out of power. Today, you are happy that only one bit of you demands was achieved. What has changed on the PNU part. Have all the ministers been sacked? No. Have all the government mionistries been handed to ODM NO. It is only the creation of a PM's p[ost that has been agreed on. Wait for politicvs to start now. Will it bring back the lives of the children burnt in the church in Eldoret? No, will it bring back the Easy Coach buses torched No. Will it bring back the houses burnt in Kibera, No? So, there is no winner, ponly lossers and losers are those who felt that they won and never won and started calling for mass action, economic sabotage and million man march. Bring it on NOW. We want the swearing in of the People's president in Uhuru Park tomortow. Njorogeston, the Earl of Kabeteshire in Kikuyustan

IT WAS AS CLEAR AS DAY & NIGHT THAT THEY WILL BE ENTRENCHED IN THE CONSTITUITION VIA CONSTITUTIONAL AMMENDMENTS, SO NO CURRENT BLA BLA HERE, QUOTING SECTION 4.1(C) AS IN A PREVIOUS POST, NEGRO PLEASE!!!

  14. Like the power sharing deal will make the rich poorer and the poor richer. At the end of the day, a mboch ODM supporter will remain a mboch even if gava is 100% ODM while a mboch PNU supporter will remain a mboch even if gava is 100% PNU. The same applies to the rich. Moral of the story. The only person who can sort you out is yourself.

  16. If this is what has to be done for peace. So be it but I must point out that we are setting a bad precedent.

What is to stop any loser in any future elections from causing chaos and skirmishes (ODM style of mass action) in-order for them to be co-opted into power. We have the case of the former rebel leader in Ivory Coast, DRC, and now Kenya. This has always been about power. Don't be fooled.

Any Tom Dick and Harry in the future with enough money to fund his own militia will use the Raila tactics to always get co-opted into power. No matter what the election outcome.

What is the point of voting??

  19. This deal is yet to go through parliament. I can already hear the echoes of sadistic ODM'ers crying for it to be thrown out of parliament by blocking the bill.
ODM'ers, will you ever learn? This shows how far we have come as Kenyans yet still some of you are advocating for mass rallies, violence and economic boycotts to overcome the current situation. What have you achieved so far apart from displacing thousands of people, looting, running business dry in Kisumu, and robbing the innocent children of their livelihood!!!!!!!!??????

    ReplyDelete
  20. annon@5.32, like so many ODM'ers here, you are once again trying to prove a point that is not even worth debating. The presence of RUTO at the signing is of no significance at all but you people still see it as a major victory for ODM.
While most Kenyans are satisfied and proud to see that at last we have a feasible solution that will take us forward as a nation, some of you still want to interpret this deal as a major political win that will endeavor to foresee Kibaki out of government . Mtameza wembe kweli. Kibaki is not going anywhere nor is Raila. They have both decided to put the interest of this great nation of ours and its people at heart. They have decided for to create a platform that will provide Kenyans with equitable justice, truth, peace and reconciliation. They have provided Kenyans a glimmer of hope that was diminishing due to primitive behavior exhibited by Ruto, Balala and Kosgey through mass rallies and economic boycotts.
    Check this out:-
    1. Ruto/Balala and ODM spokesman Prof. Anyang (in the absence of Raila) call a press conference to announce mass rally dates, not once but twice since the elections were held.
    2. Hon. Raila Odinga calls of mass rallies to create conducive climate for mediation and to protect his credibility and leadership. Again, not once but twice. This time a noticeable ‘grin’ from Ruto/ Balala and kosgey (otherwise known as the PGM).
Is there a point to all these? Do you think Kenyans are stupid to be taken for a ride?

    Kazi iendele.

  21. This deal, if not for the bigots, should be seen as Landmark deal that if endorsed will have significance implications for Kenya for years to come. If it survives the test of time, It will not only create a platform for resolving political and ethnical tension in Kenya but set an example to the wider global community; especially other African countries.
Before the elections, Kenyan was perceived as a beacon for democracy and peace throughout the region should add to its portfolio as a beacon of hope when all hell breaks loose. So we are Kenyans should keep aside there political difference and lets for once have a bi-partisan support for this deal.
    I rest my case.

  24. Thank you Taabu for your balanced and realistic post. But I am surprised that contributers here are busy debating whether it is Kibaki or Raila who has gained over the other. This is nonsense. KENYA HAS GAINED.What we need now is to discuss HOW we should move on. Let the pessimists shut up and leave the optimists and realists to speak on. Kumekucha is a famous blog and I am sure all serious politicians in Kenya read it and get our views. Let us talk to them. To tell them to pass those bills soonest and help recover lost time. Remember, February is gone and we are worse than where we were in December. We have to run double speed. I saw Orengo laughing with Beth Mugo and I was VERY happy. They should carry that laughter to parliament and pass those laws quickly. Kibaki and Raila should BOTH and TOGETHER visit all provinces, preaching reconciliation, love and peace. I would be happy to see Raila and Kibaki travel in the same plane and car. I want to see Kibaki and Raila meeting and talking more often. Kenya is healing.

I have browsed through the comments and noted that the hard work is not just to be done by the parties but by common man, including those writing here. Most of the comments here are not only narrow minded, but show that the ordinary person has a long way to go before embracing the spirit of reconciliation.

Who cares who lost or who won. Such issues are now water under the bridge. So for PNU supporters, stop dreaming of murdering Raila/Ruto. Such thoughts wont get you anywhere. Ditto ODM supporters dreaming of extinguishing Kibaki/Michuki.

Let us all participate in the healing process so that we can live with our neighbours without worrying that they are a different ethnic group

  34. to the Okellos and others who are dragging my name into this blog again and again:

I did not send any comment - I did not reply to any comment - neither regarding the Okellos, their Publishing Firm - whatsoever.

Please - Chris has spent hours deleting those hate comments during the last days.

I think he and Kenya has better things to do than to follow this cheap propaganda done by certain people.

And I am not even accusing the Okellos for starting this - although they may fall into the trap as I did in the past and react with own counter-comments.

But they and also Chris have a feeling that we know who is behind this taking advantage of his knowledge about the differences between the Okellos and me - and being a manipulator of the mind of the people knows very well how to do this and then either wait for the reactions of others or - and that's what we believe - even writes himself those dirty hate comments - just to keep the subject 'Marianne Briner' in the limelight .......

But time has passed and time will tell ...... for now let's hope and pray that all is going well and that those who have signed the Agreement yesterday understand their responsibility to keep each and every word of it.

    God bless Kenya.

I think I understand moderation too. At this time when Kenya is creating her history, how do you feel when you read a good post and in the process of reading equally good comments you come across one about Marianne Briner's fat ass stinking bitch? Or details on Sam or Hellen Okello's anatomy? Personally I feel like I've been hit by a gust of foul air and any comments I read after that, no matter how valid, feel like ash in the mouth.

  40. Hi odmdamu,

    Thank you for your comment.

Let me apologize for the fact that the chat room is down for maintenance. To be honest even I was not aware of this until I read your comment above. This is a service we outsource we therefore do NOT have any control over maintenance and service issues. However I am sure it will be back in the next few hours at the most.

Secondly the reason why I moderate comments is because of the very abusive comments here which spoil the image of Kumekucha and some are even actionable legally. These attacks are deliberate and are aimed at harming this site. My moderation of the comments thus has nothing to do with any political leanings that I may have.

Let me assure you that I have never been and will never be a supporter of PNU, least of all because sympathizers of that party have been responsible for causing me endless problems, including the hate comments that force me to moderate which as you may know is very time consuming.

I hope that this answers your question, however I will be happy to answer any more questions you may have.

    Thank you for reading Kumekucha.

More so than Karua, Michuki, and yes even detestable Mutua - this man is truly the worst of representatives. At least the PNU hardliners fought the good fight. In one sweep, Musyoka could have undermined PNU and the carnage would have been limited. Instead his 'enlightened' choice has fractured Kenya, probably beyond repair (for some time anyway). MUSYOKA MORE THAN EVEN KIVUITU BEARS THE BLAME FOR THE TAKING KENYA TO THE VERY EDGE OF THE PRECIPICE.

    History will judge accordingly.

I also know that you know what happened in KARI when some people helped safe travel of scientists who worked there). It's the least you can do after all the hatred that was displayed on this blog.

  50. Guys,

I bet the ODM machinery should not turn on Bro steve. They have deflated Kibaki politically, and the only person between them and real power is Kalonzo.

Politically speaking Kibaki is done. He should be working on a legacy now. The next political battle will come fron Kalonzo, Raila, Ruto and Mudavadi axis. This is the battle of 2010 or 2012. I bet this blog has started on it earnestly. The guys to watch in Kenyas political lanscape is Raila, Kalonzo and Ruto ( asuming the hague does get hold of him). I also suspect, Raila might try getting closer to Kibaki as time goes inorder to get some endorsement from him, he is the only (kibaki) who shall be less a player in the complicated game of politics. Raila should ensure the ambitions of Ruto and Kalonzo are whittled - how time will tell. With his aloofness he may not appoint a successor inorder to redeem his image. All what i know in the next elections, a kikuyu will not vie but will play a secondary role. They may be the kingmaker in the next election. All the same - all these guys are Kenyans and they mean well. Kenya is big enough for everyone one. Enjoy maziwa and juice as you celebrate. Whoever you are be an agent of peace and love. Share a cup of juice with your opponent - together we shall deflate chaos and plant peace, equity and love. We are all in it together.
