Kibaki’s Game Plan: Is A Major Purge Imminent?

PNU and ODM Reluctantly Return To The Negotiating Table

Most folks believe that history is pretty boring. And yet history never disappoints the researcher looking for answers to current problems. I am a researcher always looking for answers to current questions from history and I recently came across the following gem.

The Special Branch was formally created in 1952 mainly to help deal with the Mau Mau uprising. It acted as a secret intelligence unit for the colonial government. And guess what? What finished Mau mau was not the superior fire power. It was good intelligence from the Special Branch.

The reason why this information was a gem to me is because when the current mess is finally sorted out one of the things that will need to be looked at is the role played by the NSIS (National Security Intelligence Service) and especially the role of its’ Director General, one Major Gen, Michael Gichangi.

Historians will not fail to note that it was during Gichangi’s watch as “principal advisor to the president and the government of the Republic of Kenya on matters related to national security and intelligence” that the biggest political crisis in the history of East Africa unfolded in the country.

Fascinating tit bits about what the 49 year old did and more importantly what he did not do are beginning to emerge.

  1. Look, Kenya is not going to be held hostage by a few people. All Kenyans of all walks of life are asking for work to go on!.
To every kenyan, it is business as usual as they report to work, farmers dig the land, mama mboga sells down the corner, kioski people chapa mandashi, hawkers hawk their wires, all kenyans are saying that work to go on.
The only people who dont want to go on are the usual suspects.DOMO Mps.
That is why, people like Raila should be arrested, Ruto to follow, Anyang Nyongo dont have the balls to do so. etc.
When these people are thrown into the jail, kenya shall achieve peace. Even some Dictatorial Odinga Movemement MPs will work with gava because there is no one to torment their souls (who killed Mbai???).
Arrest them and put them in jail.

Lustly, I am still hurt, very hurt. Some ODM supporter in this bog have asked me to raped. I will not be!!!. This is very wrong, this is not acceptable. Why can I be raped and ODM lost the erections?

  2. Hey Irene many millions of Kenyans do not have jobs to endelea with, your guess is as good as mine what is going on through their minds now.
You can jail the whole world but can you jail the will of the people???
Force begets force, and once we are at the point all of us will be losers.
What I have realised is PUNU would rather burn the whole house than share it- the reason why i beleive we need to make for them their Lesotho so they can endelea na job and live in heaven in a land free of ODMERs flowing with milk and honey au siyo??

ODM and Raila are the devil bcoz they want Kibaki to share power... This is what they think.
Kibaki is not power hungry for stealing but ODM are power Hungry that's why they awnt a real coalition and not another MOU...
This indeed in the PUNU line of thought.. they are the best of the best...

  17. Chris, if this major purge happens as you said, then i fear Kibaki has signed a one way ticket to destruction for the entire country;
even i who didn't vote for either ODM or PNU or ODM K am aware that if Kibaki tries to clamp down on so called dissenters he is inadvertently showing that he thinks he can rule over half of the unwilling population that did not vote for him; even i will be interested to see if and how he manages to pulls that off for another 5 years
To save us all time and energy Kibaki should just pick up the phone, Raila should pick up the phone, plan to meet at Kenchic tonite for dinner without their respective wives and then just share power over a piece of chicken. tomorrow they should make a press conference together and first on the agenda get on their knees and beg kenyans for forgiveness because they have been terrible leaders
After that they should name the joint cabinet on the spot, then Kibaki should say how much power he agreed to give Raila, and Raila should say what his boundaries are, and that he won't over-step whatever powers Kibaki has left
this crisis will be over by tomorrow and Kenya will have set a world precedent in good political manners
but the more Kibaki twiddles his thumbs then the more options narrow about how to respond to his indecisiveness
i appeal to his kids and his 2nd wife to speak some sense to their dad and husband

An insider (who has been part of Kenya's fabric from pre-independence) confided this weeks ago and yet it all seemed impossible. Well, his prediction came true hoo, line & sinker. It is important to note that Kibaki is not that lame as many perceive him to be, he is indeed that ogre you dreaded.

I've been waiting for kumekucha to write real stuff with credible evidence as opossed to the ODM ass kissing that kumekucha does.

Anyway, you hit the nail on the head. This Gichangi character should be questioned. There was so much intelligence failure that I can't blame Kibaki for being upset.

I'm a PNU Supporter but I agree this Gichangi guy needs to go, he's a failure. How can the government be caught so unprepared?

I also think kibaki is very naive at times, he just thought that by addressing the economy, "everyhing else will fall into place and everyone will be happy"

He forgot that this is african politics and yu have to be very streetsmart to survive.

H ealso forgot that his opponents were well funded, after all most of them including Raila made the bulk of their wealth thru the corrupt dealings when they served in the Moi government, an as such, they plundered so much that they still have enogh resources to mobilize a comeback for their regime.

Gichangi failed, period. He may be a university graduate but that don't make no differnce. Kanyotu was a teacher and look at his level of competence when he ran intelligence, even Moi kept him.

    Gichangi needs to eb fired

DO YOU THINK KIBAKI CARES ABOUT KENYAN WHEN HE's WORTH SH20 BILLION

Despite keeping details of his private companies under lock and key, investigations reveal that Kibaki and family own shares in various blue chip companies trading at the Nairobi Stock Exchange. It is estimated that the Kibaki family controls an investment empire worth as much as Shs 2 billion.

Apart from investing at the Nairobi Stock Exchange, it is said that the family has also invested heavily in farming, owning huge farms in several parts of the country. Among these include one in Nakuru, a ranch in Naro Moru area near Nanyuki, farming interests via a holding company in Mweiga and in his rural home in Othaya.

Apart from having family business, records show that during the early 80s, Kibaki teamed up with the likes of former president Daniel Arap Moi, former powerful Attorney General Charles Njonjo and formed and investment company which they named Heri Limited.

It is said that the company invested heavily in property with its flagship properties such as Norfolk Towers, College House and Kolobot Gardens. The company also invested heavily in quoted securities at the Nairobi Stock Exchange (NSE) and was for many years among the top 20 shareholders of ICDC Investments (now Centum Investments), Nation Media Group, Jacaranda Hotel, Standard Chartered Bank, Lonrho Motors East Africa, Housing Finance Company and the Barclays Bank, Clarkson and Southern Ltd and Taisho Monarch Insurance Company.

It is also said that Kibaki also has an interest in International House Limited, the company associated with businessman Chris Kirubi and the one that owns the prestigious International House.

It is said that even when Kibaki fell out with Moi and Njonjo their business links remained intact and sustained by the fact that they operated mainly through investing companies. This arrangement meant that the did not have to meet in order to transact business since the firms were run by hired professionals and all that the shareholders did was to wait for their dividend cheques.

Another company associated with Kibaki is African Liaison & Consultants Services Limited (ALCS). According to financial analysts, today African Liaison is among the major shareholders in such public quoted companies as CFC Bank, Barclays Bank of Kenya, CMC Holdings as well as Heritage Insurance Company.

For political survival Kibaki is said to have not only relied on family business to finance his campaigns, he has since his first attempt on the presidency in 1992 elections relied on a network of wealthy businessmen and professionals. Some of the big names include Joe Barage Wanjui, the Chancellor of the University of Nairobi. He is fabulously wealthy and owns a huge stake - together with business magnate Chris Kirubi - in UAP Provincial Insurance, one of the largest Insurance companies in the region.

Another big name is that of Nathaniel Mbugua Kang'ethe who runs the MCL Saatchi and Saatchi. He also runs Kang'ethe and Associates and IA Consulting Kenya Ltd. Also in the list of those who have been giving Kibaki financial support is Jeremiah Kiereini who ahs a considerable stake in Unga Group Ltd, CMC Holdings Group of Companies and CFC Bank Ltd. Others are cabinet minister John Njoroge Michuki who is also the owner of the exclusive Windsor Golf and Country Club. Eddy Njoroge the Managing Director of KenGen, Peter Tiras Kanyago, the head of the multi-million giant freight-forwarding firm, Express Kenya Ltd, and East Africa Elevator Company (OTIS). He is also the chairman of Toyota Kenya Foundation. Others are former Defence Minister Njenga Karume who owns the country's largest beer distribution firm.

It's good you provided the source of the story that tells of Kibaki's wealth and his friends wealth.

However, I noticed that you conveniently left out the portion on Raila which was included in this piece, so don't worry, I'll save you the trouble and post it myself.

"Although most of his money comes from the family Spectre Company that specializes on manufacturing gas cylinders, Raila has since 2002 really hit the billionaires' arena with his entry into big time oil trade. It started with his appointment by Moi to the ministry of energy where he made valuable contacts with oil men from Libya who have now moved into the Kenyan market and threatened to swamp all other players in the industry...."

MREMBOWAODM. Yes, raila got the bulk of his wealth under Moi. Plus Raila was a communist like his father, he must ahve had a change of heart and embraced capitalsim during that period.

as for Kibaki, he's been getting wealth ever since he came to the scene. I mean, what do u expect- this is an african in the 60's who's just gone to makerere, and London school of economics, obviuosly he's hot commodity at that time, and obviuosly he'll succeed.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Mrembowaodm - I am so with you about Kibaki descending from the heavens with 20bn in tow...LOL

Anon @11:35AM - wow, you are too funny! Kibaki made his money because he was a marketable graduate who was in demand???? Did he ever work in the private sector? I didn't know the GOK ever paid graduates from premier institutions that kinda dough! Stop spinning lies here telling us that his resume got him his wealth. It's the access to power, stupid.

Much as you have a hard time accepting this, the Odingas have had money since the 70's when they were locked out of politics, constantly under surveillance and being harassed by the govt. FYI, East African Spectre supplies not only Kenya but most countries in East, Central and Southern Africa with gas cylinders and other derivatives. Yes, the Molasses plant is suspect but to say that most of his money came from Moi's patronage is B.S and you know it. Now these oil deals you are madly raving about....does Kenya have oil? FYI, Biwott and some of Moi's proxies control the oil trade in Kenya as a distributor . ..so for once save us the PNU propaganda.

i HAVE NOT REFUSED that Odinga family were doing ok, but the wealth that pushed Rails to the stratosphere came about when he was the Energy Minister and when he acquired The mollasses plant on the cheap and sold half his equity to Energem resources for a quick profit.

I'm not even hatin on Raila for this, I'm just stating what actually occured.

and No It's not propaganda, we've already had a mouthful of PRopaganda from ODM for a long time.

By the way, I thought your raila would never serve in the same government as kibaki? I thought he'd never accept powersharing? and now he's agitating for it ?

Truth is, whether u like or not, these ODM clowns will get the mabakshishi, yaani crumbs.

Kibaki's idea of powersharing is filling the empty half of the cabinet with ODM Members...yaani those Minsitries like Sports, Fisheries, water resources etc...

It's about POWER daddi, It's not about "change" as ODM would like u to believe, It's about POWER, POWER.

If it was about real change, then these guys would not have accepted Kibaki's summon to parliament. why should they? after all he was not the real president?

But it's not in thes eguys to be that principled. what did they do ? They shamelessly went to parliament and despite theatrix, they were sworn in and guaranteed that 850K A month.

Then the following day, they call for mass protests ? what hypocrisy. If yu didn't see their true colors then, I really feel bad for you-honestly.

If Kina Raila and Co strongly believed in the illegitimacy of kibaki's president, they'd have refused to go to parliament. I guarantee you that would have put alot of pressure on kibaki, even from his PNU supporters.

International Pressure never works in Africa, sijui visa ban, sijui what. these politicians don't need to travel to the west coz as Martha Karua put it "kwani u think heaven is in the U.S. ?"
..I had to laugh at that comment.

The msot effective pressure comes from inside, rememebr in 02 when ythe opposition finally united and removed KANU from power ?

Had raila boycotted parliament, that would have put kibaki in a real tailspin as what to do, after all ODM have the largest number of MP's from a single party in Parliament.

But Now, Kibaki views these ODM guys and their rhetorics with laughter, like having a nagging last born who's always yelling and yu get ways to pacify them.

  38. Irene Kondile,

I just saw your initial post and that some ODM people were calling for your rape.

On behalf of ODM Supporters here, I'd like to apologize for the comment of a misinformed supporter.

You know at times, we in ODM are so passionate about our cause that we get carried away.

We were so keen on the change that our Raila told us he'd bring. He'd reditribute resources more equitably than before.

ODM is a modern movement and we respect women. However, at times when we don't get our way, we quickly loose our calm and deploy negative aggression. In layman terms "negative aggresion" is what you call violence, and this may be in any form or shape like physical or verbal violence.

We unleashed this negative aggression in our stronghold of Kisumu but we later realized it was a mistake to destroy our home.Next time we will not resort to such retorgressive tactics.

ODM is peace loving and we are anti-violence. there are some memebrs within us who love violence and destruction, but we are dealing with this issue. I have to confess, it is at times at hard to confront this issue because some of our most strongest supporters financially and politically condone this strategy, yet I find it negative. It is therefore very hard to dissasociate with these "wayward" members, but hey, in every family, there is a black sheep.

So on behalf of the ODM supporters, accept our apology and know that we do not discriminate. That is why our pentagon memebers come from diverse parts of the country. we are also Pro Women.

Infact it is only that in the U.S. Our leader's Kasin in running for president, if it were not for that, we'd be fully behind clinton. We are a prgressive party.
    Best regards

    ODM Apology team
