Kibaki: Experienced Hand for Supremacists

The home guards are back with a vengeance albeit in disguise. Pretenders to freedom struggle have all their lethal fangs out sucking the blood of Kenyans in their quest for superlative emasculation and domination. If you ever thought that the home guards snatched independence goodies from the mouth of real Kenyan freedom fighters well, you better revise your history and think HARD again.

Just like the home guards shared among themselves Kenya’s wealth at independence, Kibaki and his cronies are hell bent on riding on the back of all Kenyans who shed their blood for the second and subsequent liberations. Around Kibaki are a bunch of tribal supremacists who will stop at nothing to entrench their selfish interest on Kenyans.

Behind the present political meltdown lie these supremacists headed by one John Kimendero Michuki. To fool Kenyans, Kibaki has cleverly relocated this colonial chief to an ‘obscure’ ministry where he can call the shots incognito. Meanwhile the blue-eyed lady Karua (the brains behind the throne) is left to intellectually sanitize the rot and bloodbath.

Just like the home guards stole independence from Kenyans, the supremacists have taken off with our hard-won freedom and justice. Kenyatta rode and broke the back of true freedom fighters. Well, Kibaki has not disappointed in perfecting the art of STEALING the trophy from Kenya’s mouth. His stealing of last year’s election was a culmination of DECEPTION EXTRAORDINAIRE that has left Kenyans wondering what devil transformed the hitherto General coward aka fence sitter into such a hardliner.

Decoys for rape
Well, the true face of Kibaki lies in his history. He learned highhandedness first hand from Jomo with all his attendant thieving ways. He completed the initiation with surrounding himself with supremacists who can only dole out small favours to others by allowing them to populate the land mass with no right WHATSOEVER to leadership.

If Kibaki was a good student of Kenyatta’s divisive and destructive politics, then he superlatively excelled in Moi’s shamelessness of use-and-damp. Make no mistake Emilio is a brilliant guy who knows exactly what he is doing and where he is headed. The tribal cult around him is nothing but a convenient decoy to make Kenyans serve him with generous benefits of doubt. Just imagine what a marvelous and irreplaceable asset mother nature gave him and his handlers in the name of Lucy. Aggressive, abbrassive, spot on and hands on, no hangers, no holds barred. Convinient irritant to Kibaki's apologists.

Kibaki’s cleverly crafted decoy of 6% economic growth has been exposed for what it is. This was a preface to massage our national ego as the principals rape us to the last drop of blood both economically and politically. The leash has snapped and the kite is floating rudderless in the sky.

Don't delude yourself even for a second into believing that anything meaningful will come out of the talks chaired by Kofi Annan. At the risk of being branded a pessimist (realist) I dare say that Kibaki already knew the outcome even before the talks started in the first place. Who is fooling who and for how long?

Granted, the world is not fair and was never designed to be so. But there comes a time when you cannot fool all the people all the time. Kenyans know what they want and they are ready to pay the ultimate price for it with their lives. No amount of brute force can reverse the course to JUSTICE.

The government’s monopoly on violence will only succeed in postponing BUT NEVER extinguish Kenya’s quest for a dawn to new era that is premised on EQUALITY and EQUITY. Nothing is as difficult, nay impossible, as trying to impose your leadership on a determined and unwilling populace. Magnificent castles are always built from ruins by determined hands, we shall overcome. POLITICO-ECONOMIC JUSTICE, no less.

  1. Taabu that is why we need a NEW CONSTITUTION (Draft of 2002). Kenyans need to be protected from devious, selfish and prejudiced leaders for posterity.

The reason Kenyans are destroying railways, raiding silos, razing police stations etc. is because they do not see themselves in such structures. THEY HAVE BEEN EFFECTIVELY DISENFRANCHISED FROM KENYA'S POLITICO-ECONOMICS FOR DECADES.

  2. I am reading Monday's Daily Nation online. Apparently, this week, the flawed election will be on the table for discussion and we have been primed for a major decision.

I shall be bitterly disappointed if any measures agreed on be they fresh elections, interim govt. etc. exclude a new constitution.

A new constitution is the only way of ensuring that we are not on Kumekucha lamenting electoral violence 5 years from 2day.

  5. BIG QUESTIONS

How long will the Annan talks drag on. I wonder how long kumekuchans will give the talks time to succeed ? One week, Two weeks, indefinately ... As these talks are bound to fail sooner or later serious preparations should be made to progress this to the next level. Time is running out folks. The situations is bad enough as it is, do you really want to be caught on the rebound. We should be thinking critically about the next stage, I dare say it will not be pretty the " opposition " will come out with all they have got and we should be prepared well for last kick of a dying horse.

Broken promises abound and the pattern is on record for all to see.

This Government should never ever be believed, trusted ? You know the answer to that. What they say and do are worlds apart. Preparation is the first step in winning and win this one we MUST. We owe that to our parents, our children and above all to the FALLEN and the future of this Country.

IF THERE IS A GROUP I KNOW THAT IS AGAINST ANYTHING TO DO WITH PEACE IS THIS "CHRIS" GROUP. AGAIN, CAN'T WE ALL WAIT FOR THE OUTCOME OF THE DIALOGUE BEFORE WE START SAYING HOW IT WILL FAIL, AND HOW FAR.

We are not being intelligent if we debate whether or not Raila and ODM are angels or why the violence.

Tell me, should we be blaming Africans for the violence that occured as a protest against colonial hegemony?

THIS IS A BATTLE AGAINST PNU HEGEMONY.

  10. This is a battle for democracy.

Kibaki short circuited it in 2002 when he failed to pass the 2002 Constitution draft and the battle will never truly end until Kenyans are governed by a fair and just constitution.

  13. Spot on, Taabu.

Taabu has never been a tribalist (as somebody said here the other day, only a REALIST).

There seems to be a lot f optimism that the Anan talks will yield something. Sadly the character of one Mwai Kibaki tells us otherwise. Anybody who thinks that Kibaki will share power with anybody should have their head examined. The strategy is to but time so that Kenyans cool down.

I take this opportunity to announce that we are headed for the mother of all battles. Sad? YES; frightening? YES but it is also TRUE.

I urge all progressive minded Kenyans to avert disaster before it i too late by removing their tribal lenses to see this Kibaki administration for what it trult is. And am not saying that the solution is Raila.

What I am saying is that let us all seek freedom from the old school, only a brand new generation of leaders can save Kenya.

For the love of the motherland.

Last time I was in Gikuyu land we (greater Kiambu, Thika & Muranga areas) did not have much regard for Kibaki. It was therefore kinda puzzling when I started reading about the love fest these areas started showing toward Mwai. My hope is, they will go back to being suspicious of him and may be, just may be, if he realizes not all in the house of mumbi are on board he might relent….

  22. Some of these comments and articles in Kumekucha are just out of the way. I tend to imagine that most writers have no idea where Kenya is.

I dont think anyone who rubishes Michuki is a bright person. Kenya has very few leaders and amongst the ones who stand up as leaders is Michuki. He is the only person who could handle the Matatu madness, the Mungiki menace of 2003/4, and now he is seriously working on the showdy contractors. He is one of the few ministers in Kenyas history who seem to concentrate on his docket, whichever role he is given he does a good job.

Lets talk of Martha Karua, she was on BBC hard talk early January, she told the world that there was Ethnic cleansing in the Rift Valley, she was dismissed by the likes of Carol Mutoko of kiss, Kumekucha....., the same was confirmed within the same month by the World human rights org, Jendayi of US etc. So, she still isn't intelligent? Her first job was in the water sector, she streamlined and privatised water provision and it is so strong even today, three years after she left.

Lets look at Ruto, Henry Kosgei and Sally Kosgei, they were all instigated in the 1992/97 tribal clashes report, I bet they planned and executed the 2007/08 tribal cleansing. and dont tell me that was post-election violence because my Relatives house was burnt on 27th Dec, while voting was still underway.

I look at Kumekucha and most ODM followers as people who love small talk. Doesnt democracy also protect human rights? The ODM fight fo democracy has been a fight aganist humanity. They lost elections and started a civil strife, they will loose both wars. They are just big loosers.

Am not sure you will publish this but I hope you read it to the end and style up, as you continue leading the Hate way!

Mau Mau members were demanding their Kikuyu lands back. Odinga, Mboya, etc fought intellectually to CREATE Kenya. Which Kikuyu member at that time could speak good English to face a white man?

U may consider me a Raila apologist, but a look at what is happening in this country (if Kenya should still be called a country) will show you that it is not a Raila problem. The day we will stop looking at Raila as the problem and address the real problems affecting this country, that's the day we will make some progress. Kenya had made too much progress but because of the Kibaki government, we have taken so many steps behind. Let the truth be told.

  30. The ISSUE is about Democracy in Kenya.

The sign of democracy is how fair a country carries out its elections. Our common man is totally democratic. He stands hungry in the cold and hot sun to cast his vote. Kibaki knows why he never let the opposition participate in nominating the ECK. That was the begining of Kibaki's destruction of democratical fundamentals which Kenyans had fought for in the 2nd Liberation. He was a fence sitter and has never seen the inside of a Kenyan jail.

The mediation will bring nothig. Kibaki will soon declare himself PRESIDENT OF LIFE.

  44. "Honourable Kibaki - How Would You Like to be Remembered?"

    Dear Honourable Mwai Kibaki:

There are various ways that you could be remembered when you have been laid to rest six feet under the earth. Among them, you could either be remembered as a person who let his country deteriorate towards a full blown Civil War. Or you could be remembered as a person who rescued the country that was on the brink of a Civil War. Between these two choices, how would you like to be remembered? What legacy do you want to leave behind? What kind of Kenya would you like your great-grand children to inherit?

Among the things that may contribute to your being remembered as a person who allowed his country to deteriorate towards a civil war are: (a) despite disputed tallying of the presidential votes you still went ahead (with the blessing of the pressurised ECK Chairman) and declared yourself a head of state; (b) on the day when the AU Chairman, President Kufuor, was due to arrive in Nairobi for mediation talks, you hurried towards naming your Vice President and the rest of the Cabinet; (c) when Mr. Kufuor was just starting the mediation, you went ahead and swore-in your cabinet; (d) when the former UN boss, Mr. Kofi Annan, was due to arrive in Nairobi two of your top Ministers said publicly that your government did not invite him; (e) when Mr. Annan was in the middle of mediation you took off to attend an AU conference in Addis Ababa (normally leaders who are abroad rush home during a crisis; in your case it was the opposite, you left home to rush abroad during a crisis); (f) if you continue along this path and refuse to a resolution.

On the one hand, some have suggested that the violence that started in the Rift Valley was pre-meditated by ODM. On the other hand, others have suggested that what seems to have been pre-meditated is a group of people that are close to you (friends, advisors, and political partners) decided well in advance that they wanted you to hold on to power whether PNU won the presidential election or not. Mr. Kibaki, is that a realistic possibility?

Time is of the essence. And unfortunately it is not on our side as those around you would make you believe. So far 1,000 innocent people have been killed either by fellow citizens or the Police, thousands of homes have been torched, over 250,000 Kenyans have been displaced, tens of thousands live in refugee camps, the economy is in a shambles, Kenyans are driving fellow Kenyans out of cities and towns, etc. Please act, and act quickly, Mr. Kibaki.

Having said that, here is a list of only three things that you could do in order to be remembered as a person who rescued our nation from the brink of a civil war: (a) take these mediation talks more seriously; (b) be in charge of the situation and not allow those around you to dictate on what you should do; (c) decide on one of two things - either agree to a re-run of the Presidential elections, or go into a true power-sharing deal by allowing the amendment of the Constitution to create the position of Prime Minister, elected by Parliament and answerable to it as suggested by the distinguished thinker, Prof. Ali Mazrui. Some ministries (including Internal Security, and Justice & Constitutional Affairs) will be answerable to the Prime Minister, and some will be answerable to the President (including Defence and Foreign Affairs).

I believe the PM should always come from the party that holds the most number of seats, or the second most number of seats in situations where the party with the most seats won the Presidency. These changes of creating the PM's position, you are not doing them for yourself or for honourable Raila Odinga, but rather for a better political future of our nation. They will reduce the power of the President and will create more checks and balances in running the affairs of the nation. Mr. Kibaki, isn't this a good way of making the President more accountable and reducing the unlimited powers that the office currently holds?

And once the political compromise has been reached and parliament resumes, here is a list of things that should be the top priority: 1. The Judiciary needs to be strengthened and made independent. Starting with the current judges of the High Court, Court of Appeal and any new judges in the future, they should come before an all-party Judicial Parliamentary Committee (televised) to be grilled with questions before members finally vote for or against serving on the bench.
    2. There should be a televised public inquiry lead by, e.g., the Kenya Human Rights Commission, that will look into what went wrong. Those identified as culprits either in vote tallying, killings, and torching of homes and other properties should be brought to justice. Victims (or their families) should be compensated.
    3. Ensure that those who have been displaced and driven out of their homes are sent back to their homes.
    4. Ensure that those whose homes have been destroyed are financially compensated to build new homes.
    5. Deal with the problem of poverty head-on, by starting to build proper homes for those who live in slums in places like Kibera and Mathare. 6. Set up an independent Land Reform and Reconciliation Commission that will deal with all land disputes in the country, district by district, starting with the Rift Valley and the Coast.
    7. There should be zero tolerance on Corruption, Discrimination, and Religious bigotry. Any civil servant found engaged in any of these crimes should be sacked and prosecuted, including Cabinet Ministers and Judges.
Please make the first step for the sake of our nation, and it is my hope that honourable Raila Odinga will meet you half way.

Mr. Kibaki, this is a defining moment in the history of our nation. Will you not like to be remembered as a hero of this moment? Will you rise up to the occasion and meet the above challenges, and protect our country from degenerating into a Civil War and added to the infamous list of failed states in Africa?

    Yours sincerely,

Muhammad bin Yusuf for Kalenjin Online.

  47. Kenya legislator says first lady assaulted him 04 Feb 2008 12:57:06 GMT
    Source: Reuters
NAIROBI, Feb 4 (Reuters) - A Kenyan legislator accused First Lady Lucy Kibaki of physically assaulting him at a meeting at the official State House residence three weeks ago and said he planned to sue her.

Government-allied legislator Gitobu Imanyara, a lawyer who unsuccessfully sued the first lady on behalf of a television cameraman who said she slapped him in 2005, told reporters he had been the latest target of Lucy Kibaki's ire.

The president is currently wrestling with a national crisis over disputed elections that have ignited opposition calls for his removal and widespread ethnic bloodshed. On the accusations against his wife, his office had no immediate comment.

"I will be bringing proceedings against her this week, so we can give her an opportunity to come to court and tell the Kenyan people why she thinks that she has control of State House, that she can run amok," Imanyara told reporters.

He said he was in State House for a meeting about the race for parliament speaker when the first lady became angry at his presence because he had been involved in the earlier lawsuit.

"She was in pyjamas and not wearing any shoes. She immediately started throwing punches at me shouting 'nobody goes here without my permission'," Imanyara said.

    PROTECTIVE

Imanyara said President Kibaki had apologised and he had initially decided to keep quiet. But he said Lucy Kibaki had been "screaming and talking about it".

Lucy Kibaki, known to be fiercely protective of her husband, has been at the centre of controversy on several occasions.

In December, local media reported that she slapped a protocol official who called her by the name of a woman widely reported to be the president's second wife.

In 2005, she stormed Nation Media's newsroom to complain about a story and slapped cameraman Clifford Derrick while her security detail and police looked on helplessly as she kept journalists there for hours.

In fact she had the wrong newsroom, as the source of her anger was a story by the rival Standard media group.

In 2004, she publicly upbraided Vice President Moody Awori, who called her the "second lady." She also shouted down a former World Bank country director for playing loud music at a party at the home he had rented from the Kibaki family

  51. Hey Mt. Kenya People,
What are you enjoying or benefiting from the way your man is ruling Kenya? I hear that sugar, fuel etc are very expensive in your place. I hear that you are being chased away from all the areas in Kenya where you had invested or settled. I hear that your man stole presidential votes in broad daylight and that all of you know that. I hear that your coffee, tea and even sisal estates are not producing because you have chased away the tribes that do the donkey-work for you. I hear that your poor are getting poorer and your rich are getting richer. I hear that you voted for your own not because he would necessarily share the cake with you, but mostly because you cannot imagine being ruled by an uncircumcised man. Hey Mt. Kenya people, nobody is benefiting from the turmoil that is in Kenya. You are known to be very industrious. You know how to do business and take risks. But have you forgotten that business only thrives when there are consumers of your goods? Have you forgotten that your goods need to be transported from where they are made to where they are sold? Have you forgotten that you need to have a willing-buyer-willing-seller atmosphere for your business to have a high turn-over? Don't you realize that you need to make your buyers happy and confident to buy from you? Hey Mt. Kenya people, does it not make you wonder why all of Kenya (and even the international world) is united against you? Can it be true that everybody is wrong except you? Can it be true that everybody is a fool except you? Hey, Mt. Kenya people, please say enough is enough and tell your people responsible for all this mess to stop. Please tell them that you want to feel part and parcel of all the Kenyan people. Tell them that for you to live all other Kenyans must also be allowed to live. Tell them that Kenya is one and that it is more important to belong to a country than to belong to a tribe. That nobody chose to belong to any tribe. That customs and traditions cannot be the reason to judge a person. That the presence or absence of a foreskin or clitoris cannot, does not and will not make anybody a better or worse leader. Hey Mt. Kenya people, where is your joy or victory in all this? Please tell your Pastors and Bishops to speak the truth and insist on justice and fairness. Please tell your professionals to say enough is enough and insist on peace and harmony. Please tell your common people to cry out for the rights of all Kenyans. Please tell your youth not to join Mungiki, but instead insist on being provided with a good environment to be involved in meaningful employment. Please join hands with Prof. Maathai, Maina Kiai, Macharia Gaitho, Githongo etc in speaking out the truth as it is. Hey, Mt. Kenya people, we are missing your miraa from Meru, your buses, your pears and apples from Limuru, your pineapples from Thika, your flowers from Naivasha (Hey, will I get a flower for my Valentine this time round?). All the Universities in Juja, Nyahururu, Nairobi, Kikuyu, Nakuru are still closed. The cabbages, carrots and potatoes are rotting in farms in Kinangop. Hey, Mt. Kenya people, how are you benefiting from all this? Please make me understand. Please put down your feet and say ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

  53. First lady dismisses Imanyara allegations.
    Written By:pps/Apollos Doreen , Posted: Mon, Feb 04, 2008

The government has refuted the allegations made by the Member of Parliament for Imenti Central, Gitobu Imanyara that he was assaulted by the First Lady, H.E. Mrs. Lucy Kibaki three weeks ago.

" We take great exception to these allegations and wish to state that the First Lady did not assault the legislator."

In a statement, the government says it is astonishing that a lawyer of Imanyara's stature would make such accusations a full three weeks after the alleged incident.

" We also state that no emissary has been sent to Imanyara to apologize over an assault incident that never took place. We hope that Gitobu Imanyara is not using the allegations as blackmail over the issue of government or cabinet appointments after he lost the position of Deputy Speaker in recent elections in Parliament." It said.

The First Lady has instructed her lawyers to immediately take legal action against Imanyara and any other individual or outlets that perpetuate or communicate the wild allegations made, because they border on character assassination, blackmail and are part of a wider political scheme aimed at besmirching the office of the First Lady.

Earlier, the Imenti Central MP Gitobu Imanyara refuted claims that he was dead.

Rumors have been circulating that the MP who made his way back to parliament had died or hospitalized in critical condition.

Anxiety has been high in his constituency for the last few weeks since the rumor began.

Addressing the press on Monday, Imanyara termed the rumor as perturbing and disturbing and assured Kenyans that he would serve them at his best

People like you should do your homework instead of assuming the readers here are as ignorant as your are, and will not tell the difference no matter who you suggest has said what.

For your information the correct quote goes "... I will permit no man to narrow and degrade my soul by making me hate him." This was said by Booker Taliaferro Washington (1856-1915).

A word of advice, before you display your bad attitude toward a people who are freely and intelligently discussing soutions to their problems, CHECK YOUR FACTS. PEOPLE MIGHT JUST THINK YOU LESS STUPID THAN YOU REALLY ARE.

Two quotes by the same great mind and teacher before you bow your head in shame and look for a forum of your peers (Stupid People!); "I have great fiath in the power and influence of facts. It is seldom that anything is permanently gained by holding back a fact."

Finally, "You cant hold a man down without staying down with him."

GITOBU IMANYARA, a former human rights lawyer, said today that Lucy Kibaki had attempted to punch him and had to be restrained by her security detail. 72. KIBAKI CONTINUES TO WASTE OUR TIME:

    GUARDIAN UNLIMITED 4/2/08:

Kenya's government today placed another hurdle in the way of attempts to find a solution to the violent political crisis gripping the country by forcing the withdrawal of a key South African mediator who played the LEAD ROLE IN NEGOTIATING THE END OF APARTHEID.

Cyril Ramaphosa, who as part of former UN Secretary general Kofi Annan's team was expected to run the day to day talks between government and opposition representatives in Nairobi, was accused by President Mwai Kibaki's part of having business links to the opposition leader, Raila Odinga.

Both Ramaphosa, now a prominent businessman, and Odinga denied the claims.

But the UN today, issued a statement saying Ramaphosa was withdrawing from the mediation team..."as a result of reservations expressed by the government."

As for the ODM haters, please don't assume an air of arrogance because Kibaki occupies State House. I am also not one of you.

In summary, the country is suffering and all you guys can produce is some mindless drivel. Taabu even has the time to go into the Shrek archives. This may get a few laughs, but how many people do you win over? How will that help the IDPs in Tigoni police station or Kuresoi? You write so well Taabu, but write in a way that will bring us all closer not push us away from each other. IMO both sides are in the wrong. We need a solution and not biased writing.

With freedom comes great responsibility. We have been accorded the freedom to express our opinions but should we not at this critical time be using this freedom to come up with viable solutions. Simply shouting Kibaki must go will not get the IDPs back to their homes. Shouting "Kibaki is President, move on." will also not bring peace to our nation.

"But Kibaki stole the election." I can hear some of you say. Well, initial reports also indicate ODM is not innocent either. So its a case of one thief beating the other. This does not however legitimise Kibaki's presidency. It does however mean that both sides will go to any lengths to win. Are these the type of politicians we need? This is no liberation struggle as some of you have put it. Rather it is more a case of some politicians coining some phrases to get them into office so that they may earn more money.

I shudder when I hear someone complain that more people were killed in the Naivasha than in the Eldoret church. Does it really matter!!!!!!! One person killed is one life too many, regardless of geographical location. So what are you going to do? Even up the number? Grow up man. I for one feel that there has been enough killing. Perhaps we should emulate whats being done in www.ushahidi.com. People are making real change. Through dialogue Mungiki has stopped the killings in Naivasha. What are the leaders doing to stop the killings in western Rift Valley? Check out newspaper reports of Central MPs talking to their followers to stop the cycle of violence. I would like to see a more proactive role in Rift Valley similar to what Lina Kilimo has done. http://www.nationmedia.com/dailynation/nmgcontententry.asp?premiumid=0&category_id=2&newsid=116077

Please remember that a mediator is supposed to be neutral. This is not the first time that it has been intimated that Raila has links with the S Africans. So apart from allowing a fourth ODM MP to join the negotiation team (James Orengo), the government should also allow a person who they feel is a close associate of Raila's to head the mediation team? Don't you think if they were not for peace the would have refused the request to include Orengo? I mean when ODM were choosing the 3 people Ruto, Sally Kosgey and Mudavadi, they considered them competent enough to handle the negotiations. PNU conceded and allowed them to include Orengo. So the government team is supposed to say yes to everything that's proposed and that will signal their willingness to negotiate? That my friend is no negotiation. Its about give and take and the government has shown a willingness to concede.

Just because Ramaphosa played a key role in ending apartheid does not mean he is the right person for Kenya. Kalonzo played a key role in ending the Somali conflict, does that mean he should be the one heading the mediation? Of course not. It's called conflict of interest.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Anon@11.24 you are right negotiation is all about give and take. And perception is everything here just like in politics - the devil remains in the details. But do you thing Cyril is that naive to have wanted to soil his reputation earned all those years in the knowledge that a conflict of interest existed? I just hope and pray that what we are seeing are well meant and not smokescreens. Fingers crossed.

  79. @Taabu

I appreciate your feedback and thank you for your compliment. Some clarification though. Perhaps I should also have added that The Standard also includes coastal MPs calling for peace (ODM MPS at that) Sanity is returning to the coast. All I'm saying is that Rift Valley ODM MPs should be seen to be doing something. If the central MPs are doing this for PR, then they are winning because they can claim the moral high ground. If they are genuine then its all good. Either way, Rift Valley MPs end up not looking good.

Surely you will also not begrudge the peace efforts at www.ushahidi.com

You however ask a valid question with regard to when did the rain begin pounding us. I was in Kenya for 6 months last year. I was incensed when I found out that Nakumatt employees only get one day off after 30 or more days (it may even be 60). This after working for 12 hours a day. I mentioned this to my friends who are high up on both sides of the current political divide. They did not care or were not bothered. Thats where the problem is. The political class do not care about the poor. And if they acquire property by unscrupulous means it does not matter to us if they are from our region. "he/she is one of us.". And that applies to both sides. This my friend is what ails Kenya today. Our politicians on both sides have managed to manipulate our ethnicity for their own benefit. Any wonder then that they at least managed to get themselves sworn in and immediately adjourn till march (read kshs 500,000 at the end of every month)

Barbs should therefore go to the political class on both sides of the divide. If we are not to bury our heads in the sand, then mistakes by both sides should be pointed out and acknowledged regardless of the politician we prefer.

I acknowledge your point that all underlying problems that led to the violence should be dealt with i.e land, poverty and constitutional reform.

    However:
    1. We can't sort those underlying issues if we are still at each others throat.
    2. I did not say that ODM MPs supported the violence. The general context of my comments is that it did not look good on ODM Rift Valley MPs that they have not been seen talking to their supporters.
    3. Whilst having a "placebo peace" as you called it does not deal with the issue, neither does name calling and hurling insults. (Please note that I'm not implying that you hurled insults. I'm referring to the general trend of comments from both sides)

We need to acknowledge that there are problems and start addressing them pro actively. This is a much better way as opposed to trading insults which results in each person standing their ground and rubbishing anyone who does not agree with them.
