Kenya Crisis: A Very Attractive Military Solution

Why US Warnings and French Appeal To Security Council Could Signal An External Solution… Maybe Even Of The Military Kind

President Paul Kagame’s idea that Kenya should turn to the military for a solution was received with silent shock by most Kenyans. Still there is no denying that President Kagame as young as he is knows a thing or two about stopping genocide dead on its’ tracks. Somebody has to stop the killings, in Kenya… PLEASE!!! (See photo below of woman who was killed in her house in Nakuru in the presence of her wailing son)

In fact Kagame has gone beyond that and is now firmly at the helm of a country that many see as the most progressive in the region despite having gone through the worst ethnic cleansing recorded in history.

A closer look at what the President of Rwanda was saying reveals plenty of wisdom. He said (in front of journalists who had mostly dropped their jaws in shock) that when institutions fail, then bringing in the military to restore order makes plenty of sense.

If we are brutally honest with ourselves, the truth is that we currently do not have any leaders in the country and our institutions are literally dead in the water. What we have are plenty of selfish politicians on both sides of the political divide who are only hungry for power at whatever cost. To our current political class human life is absolutely worthless. I beg you fellow Kenyans to forget your political affiliations for a moment and even if you are paid to make your political party look good remember that at the rate we are going, your (blood money) will not help you much in the rapidly emerging new balkanized Kenya where human life, even that of toddlers who don’t know their tribe yet is not worth 2 cents.

Ladies and gentlemen let us sober up for a few minutes and take a very sober look at our country.

Both Baba Jimmy and Baba Castro have let down Kenyans badly. These two gentlemen both have blood on their hands. Patience please so that I can explain myself.

Baba Jimmy went ahead and did what he did with the presidential elections on live TV and in full view of the world. And to make matters even more sickening he went to great lengths to prepare the security forces to quickly quell down any rebellion. The most dangerous thing that can happen to a country is when very intelligent people who happen to be political idiots are in power. Baba Jimmy’s team of very intelligent persons who have clearly shown how politically naive they can be, came up with the reasoning that people will usually quickly cool down when faced with the threat of death. So the idea was to shoot rioters and swiftly scare them into submission.

What a terrible miscalculation these otherwise intelligent guys made!!! They did not realize that the lives of a substantial number of Kenyans are so miserable that death under certain circumstances can even seem attractive. The rest is history.

Actually the latest is that Baba Jimmy while in Ethiopia has bluntly blamed the opposition for instigating post election violence when the whole world knows who started the fire. This is a clear demonstration by Baba Jimmy that the Annan talks mean nothing to him. After all he left the country (as the duly elected president who cannot solve the crisis in his own country) to go to the AU summit to help solve the problems of other African countries like Sudan and Somalia. What a big joke.

But Baba Castro is not innocent either. Yes, the election was stolen from him. Yes, it must have been terrible when he had already started “smelling” the sweet aroma of the lawns of State House. But he missed a golden opportunity to go down in history for courage and maybe he would even have won occupancy of State house in the process. What he should have done is tell the people of Kenya that he valued human life more than his ambitions and as a result he should have stepped down from his “protest” to save human life. He would then have resumed his fight for justice in a non-violent manner after things cooled down. Heard of a guy called Mahatma Gandhi? He proved that peaceful protest can be much more effective than powerful guns and the then mighty British empire.

What Baba Castro and many ODM supporters do not realize yet is that if he was to take over as the president of this country, there is a high possibility that we may end up in a much worse crisis than we have at the moment.

The truth is that many Kikuyus are being held back by the fact that Baba Jimmy is still president. If he is replaced by a person that most of them don’t trust, then chances are that they will go ballistic.

The neat solution is to divide the country into the Republic of Mount Kenya (to be ruled by Baba Jimmy) and the Republic of 6 and half provinces to be ruled by Baba Castro. However since the majority of Kenyans seem to be against this solution, then Baba Castro will never be president of the country called Kenya. Very sad because I personally believe that he was robbed of a clear victory, but that’s life. Surely Kenya is bigger than Baba Castro and his ambitions.

Which brings me to the military solution that can save Kenyan lives and bring us all to the new political dispensation that we all so eagerly desire.

The Kenya army should be invited to take over and then ALL members of the 10th parliament should be placed under house arrest. The Kenya army should then invite International forces sanctioned by the UN to help them restore order and sanity in the country. The country will then be ruled by a neutral military council or committee whose task will be to stop the killings, restore order and prepare the country for a new general elections in the next one year or so where all those who have held public office before, including those in the 10th parliament will be barred from running. The military will also oversee strict rules for the elections where candidates using any form of ethnicity will be promptly barred from running. Note that in this kind of arrangement whoever wins the presidency will have to be acceptable to a sizeable number of people on both sides of the political divide, meaning that such elections can play a very important role in healing the country.

This may not be a very far fetched eventuality considering the fact that the United States has already warned about implementing an external solution while the French have appealed directly to the UN Security Council to intervene in the Kenyan situation. Not to mention the fact that a UK Minister has called for the deployment of the Kenya Army to bring back order. Read between the lines, folks.

P.S. President Kibaki’s statement in Ethiopia blaming the opposition for instigating the post election violence is extremely reckless when you consider that events of the recent past have clearly showed us that violence tends to escalate during weekends. It happened in Nakuru and it happened again in Naivasha.

P.S. 2: Wild But Persistent Rumours that we are unable to confirm at the moment...
That Lucy Kibaki injured Jimmy Kibaki in an incident in State House after the latter suggested that his dad should step down.

That Gitobu Imanyara is in critical condition from injuries sustained from beatings by security agents after he hit back at first lady shortly after receiving one of those famous slaps.

What we have confirmed…
The First lady is currently under “lock and key.” Impeccable sources told Kumekucha this evening that nobody is taking any more chances with her. But the same sources have refused to confirm or deny whether anything happened to justify the “lock and key policy”.

  1. I am encouraged by the efforts akina Ruto and Karua are making towards returning Kenya to peace. But two things have made me pessimistic:
    1. When asked by a journalist if Kenya had enough policemen to maintain law and order, Karua said with her eyes wide and mouth twisted that it had. This she said even after Annan had already said the policemen were not enough and the army was assisting them in humanitarian and social activities.
    2. Kibaki in Ethiopia was arrogantly telling his IGADD members that the elections reflected the will of the people and that akina Raila should go to court.
This makes me feel that Kibaki and his PANUA Govt are merely making time as they meanwhile do things behind the scenes such as strengthening Kikuyu positions in the army, police and provincial administration. At the end of the Annan negotiations, Kibaki will simply tear it into shreds and unleash his true dictatorial side that we have not seen. We shall see Mungiki activities increasing, more deaths and jailings, assassinations of prominent opposition members etc. What I don't understand is, what pride will Kibaki have in lording over unwilling citizens? Let him not be deceived, when it comes to that, he will find a rift developing between the Kiambu and Nyeri kikuyus. I have heard Nyeri kikuyus laughing at the Kiambu ones for having rushed to buy land in Rift Valley when they should only have set up business! If Kibaki rules through tribal eyes, he will find at the end ruling through clan eyes.....and he might find he is fighting against Lucy's clan!

  2. The 4th agenda to be discussed by the Annan team is land and historical injustices. This is the one they said is long term and they gave themselves one year to tackle it. I highly doubt that one year will be enough. And I hope they will not make decisions in this matter without involving the wider Kenyan population. I strongly suggest that they go round the country and get views from Kenyans. I , for instance cannot as at now see how Kenyans will agree on the land matters. Kalenjins strongly feel that Kikuyus were pushed into their land in RV by Kenyatta who meanwhile "grabbed" their land in Central. They say that Uhuru Kenyatta should give up the land he inherited in Central Province and resettle his Kiambu people who had settled in RV. This feeling is unanimous among the KAMATUSA and they will not hear of any other solution. Telling Uhuru to give up land does'nt look practical, but that is how they feel and see it. On the Annan Panel are two Kalenjins, Ruto and Ms Kosgey. They will be under great pressure to push this agenda. I am sure Karua will not want to hear any of this. ONE YEAR WILL BE TOO SHORT TO SORT OUT THIS LAND ISSUE. In fact, chances are the land issue will raise temperatures again, and if not well handled, will re-ignite ethnic clashes which this time will be long and vicious. I hope I am wrong...I fear I am right. And after all this, the historical issues will take another long and bitter path!!! Am I a prophet of doom? No. I am just a Kenyan with foresight. Anybody out there who sees it the same with me?

  3. Chris very nice article as usual. However I differ on your opinion on Raila in regards to his alleged role in the violence. Has Raila not called for peaceful protests? Is he the won the leading the violence? I think he has shown that he cares more for the people than for the presidency by showing genuine concern and effort to find a peaceful resolution, by being sworn in as MP for Lagata though his swearing as President has been delayed. Where Raila has not done enough is perhaps orgainizing ODM MPs from rift valley to publicly and jointly condemn the violence that has taken place there, and then to do the same in Nyanza and Western, the areas where most of the violence has occured. Realistically and practically that is all he can do. Do you want him to tell the people to sit still and be raped when they can't even peacefully protest a la Ghandi? Do you want them to stand still and watch them be rape physically, politically and economically by kibaki and his cronies. I think he can do more but the blame and history will show this lies with Kibaki, Kalonzo and Kivuitu. In that order because Kibaki as head of state or at the very least as a statesmen should have bound out gracefully, even if he were to rig he has participated and indeed been part of few rigged elections that he should have known to do so in a less obvious and blatant way. Kalonzo because he knew he was a waste of space and if he was going to be Kibaki's son he should have just joined PNU from the onset, his votes would have gone to PNU and perhaps they would have won without rigging and there would be no post-election chaos. Finally Kivuitu for obvious reasons, a spineless and immoral character like him puts Kenya's judicial system on par with that of Nigeria. We won't dare joke about our western neighbors now, for at least they have oil and peace for the most part, not to mention a devolved system of government, despite rampant corruption.

  4. The final solution; NEW CONSTITUTION.

That constitution provided for the devolution of powers "majimboism", the address of land issues and the dilution of presidential powers.

  5. The latest news (BBC Africa) is that the two sides have agreed on a plan to work towards an agreement that includes a solution to the presidential issue within 7 - 15 days.

At the same time, Kibaki is still insisting that ODM must go to our compromised courts to seek redress.

  6. Chris, never thought you could think in such a childish manner. I am particularly angered by when you said that Kikuyus will go ballistic if another person replaces Kibaki? What? Who gave them the sole right to hold us hostage for their whims? That is the stupidest thing I heard. Let them go ballistic or whatever, the earlier they get the truth that Kenya holds more than Kikuyus the better for all Kenyans. You have to know that Raila's protest was and is still justifiable. It is not about election or power (that is, if he is sincere), it is about the future of most Kenyans. This is an opportunity and if we let it go then, I honestly suggest that we should not hold any more election. What for? Just waste billions? Anyway, I am smelling some kind of a change in heart from your words for whatever reason. And you talk of Ghandi holding peaceful protests to fight for the rights of Indians yet you know with Chemical Ali this is not possible. All in all, I believe this is an opportunity to transform Kenya (give that it is managed well) and turn it into a Kenya for all by using ONLY and I repeat only peaceful means which I am sure will bear fruit at the end of the day. It is a fight between our dark past and the bright future we want. A fight for equality and justice. And it is not easy. The old home guards know this and they are determined to fight on coz they think from experience that after sometime the fight will end. And I must say with sadness that those who should have fought the good fight are seemingly giving up, if at all they were sincere. May Kenya wins.

  7. Kenyans 'forcibly recruited to fight'

A Kenyan (who wishes to remain anonymous) in the Rift Valley town of Naivasha describes how members of an outlawed sect - the Mungiki - are forcibly recruiting members of their Kikuyu ethnic group to kill non-Kikuyus - allied to the opposition.

    From BBC

It is really disgusting. People are being killed and burnt in their houses, even one person was buried alive... buried alive?

And other people are just watching.

There are gangs of Kikuyu coming knocking from door-to-door. But I really don't think they are from Naivasha - people know that Naivasha is usually a safe place, a place where people like peace.

But these people are coming and forcing people here to fight. So that's why they are going house-to-house making sure that if you are a Kikuyu, you have to come out and fight.

    Map

If you are not a Kikuyu, they just kill you immediately.

Not long ago they came into our estate and demanded the keys to the gate.

They used a petrol bomb to frighten us, telling us if we don't come out, they'll burn us.

    Shooting, shooting, shooting

Luckily, I managed to hide under the bed.

Where they are targeting right now is Naivasha prison.

Groups of Kikuyu groups roam the streets of a neighborhood of Naivasha as fires burn
Homes belonging to Luos are being ransacked and set alight

The Kikuyus are going to the prison and they want to get the Luos and the Namdis who have gone there to seek refuge.

Gangs of Kikuyus are outside the prison and burning houses nearby but the police - there are many of them there - but it is like they are relaxed.

They are not doing anything, just shooting, shooting, shooting [up in the air] but not stopping these people from getting closer to the prison.

These Kikuyus that are doing all this - it is a kind of revenge.

In Naivasha it is revenge for what has been happening in other areas where Kikuyus have been killed.

  8. Interesting comments by Kagame. Although I clearly see where he is coming from, the situation in the Kenya army is very different from Rwanda. The Kenya army is riddled with fat cats who would have trouble running the 3 mile morning run. And more importantly, in the army anyone seen as excelling is usually cut down to size so that the commanders are all yes men and women beholden to the holder at state house. There are no free thinkers in the army otherwise we would have heard of them. There are no Lou, Luhya, Kikuyu majors to speak of. We carefully place kalenjins and Somalis at the helm.

  9. No matter what pple say this is not about Raila and Kibaki this is about the issues...poverty,land,unemployment etc

If these issues are not addressed, the 60% of Kenyans who cant afford two meals a day will find a leader strong enough to battle the ruling elite to a fall or worse still take matters into their own hands.

You fear a person with nothing to lose, such people tend not to value life.Unfortunately for Kibaki and his side they have everything to lose.

  15. That is the way Mr. Chris. You are close to right though I still feel that President Raila will soon be in state house. He will never get there though through negotiations. That will never work and this surmounts to military taking over and a fresh fair elections to be conducted. This time around, Judas Iscariot aka Kalonzo must cease to exist.

On the other hand, that you just said answers the reason why Kibaki has been fulltime in State house while we have never seen Rucy explaining to wananchi how useless the state house is. But she surely did something wrong. Instead of shooting Jimmy, she shoulda done it to Baba Jimmy and be our next president. Maybe they are keeping her under house arrest in fear of her overthrowing Baba Jimmy.

  20. This being my first time to post here, i'm saddened by the level of hatred on display here. Hatred against the Kikuyus. The so called Kamatusa must realize that the land in question was legally acquired in a sovereign state where any organism can reside in any part of the body. It would cease to be an organism if otherwise described hence the folly of Kamatusa's ideology.

For example Olenguruone was the birth place of the Mau Mau struggle. How did the Kikuyus find themselves there? Kikuyus began migrating to the Rift Valley in the early part of last century as workers. Previously Dorobos who don't even feature in Kamatusa's pattern of thinking owned much of the land around Molo, Burnt Forest, Elburgon, etc.

In Africa migration of people from one locale to another has been the norm since the beginning of time. The Kamatusa came from the Sudan. The Bantu from West Africa. Where one tribe settled and thrived was officially recognized as that tribe's land. So the Kamatusa have no logical or legal stand to evict anyone from Rift Valley. They can discuss the mode of co-existence even though I know many intermarriages between the two tribes that work very well.

In the final analysis we must take into account that the evicted Kikuyus have lived peacefully with their neighbors for all this years. What particular neighborly gesture are they being evicted for?

    ReplyDelete
  21. THE IDEA OF THE KIKUYUS BECOMING MAD IF RAILA BECAME PREZO IS MISPLACED.ALSO INSISTING THAT RAILA HAS NOT DONE ENOUGH TO END THE VIOLENCE IS NOT TRUE.THIS MAN WON THE ELECTION AND WAS DENIED A CHANCE TO GOVERN.IF KIKUYUS CANT ACCEPT THE FACT THAT RAILA WON,AND INSIST THAT KIBAKI DID, THEN I'M AFRAID THAT THEY'LL HAVE TO LIVE IN A COUNTRY CALLED MT KENYA.WHO SAID THEY ARE SPECIAL? HOW MANY NON KIKUYUS OWN LAND IN THE GEMA TERITORY?LET US NOT LIE TO OURSELVES,KIBAKI CAN SAY WHAT HE WANTS TO SAY. WE ALL KNOW HOW WE GOT WHERE WE ARE.WE ALSO KNOW HOW TO GET OUT BUT WE ARE PRETENTING THAT WE ARE TALKING.WHAT DID KIBAKI SAY IN ADIS ABABA?IF THAT IS WHAT HE BELIEVES THEN WHY ARE WE WASTING TIME?

  22. Kazamwendo @ 8.01. welcome to Kumekucha. Here we say things as they are. Kumekucha is a kind of peace and reconciliation forum where people release everything from the chest. Some of the things coming out of chests are very emotional, others personal, others factual, others insinuations, others alarmist, others fantasies and others plain lies. But a problem shared is a problem half-solved. You asked,"What particular neighbourly gesture are they (Kikuyus) being evicted for?" Very important question. It cannot be the land issue alone because all other tribes have also bought land in RV and they don't evoke such hatred from the Kamatusa. Kikuyus are arrogant, domineering, schemers and economic saboteurs. They are like the proverbial camel. Once you allow their nose into your tent, you will soon find them overcrowding you and even sending you away. Other tribes don't do this (Kisiis also have this tendency, but on a smaller scale). Luhyas, Kambas, Coastal people are the best to live with. They integrate themselves in the communities they live with and even quickly learn the host's language-not for purposes of spying, but for sincere improvement of social interaction. Kikuyus will learn other languages, yes, but mostly for spying purposes. Kikuyus will speak their language even in the presence of others whom they know very well don't understand theirs.Kikuyus have unspoken rules (though I tend to think among themselves they preach it) not to do business with non-Kikuyus when they have their own in same business. You will not see Kikuyus in a hotel belonging to a non-Kikuyu when there is a Kikuyu hotel somewhere. And even if they must, you will find them colonizing a certain table where only they will sit at and speak in mothertongue. Kikuyus will come to a place and begin to give it Kikuyu names (you heard of Kiambaa Church in Eldoret, there is also Kasarani, Ya Mumbi, Munyaka etc). I am told if you are non-Kikuyu in Nyeri and you put a matatu on the road there, you will first be forced to employ a Kikuyu driver and even then the locals will always bode the other Kikuyu matatu on the line. You will find you make very few trips and the business will slowly but surely shrink (in fact it will not even start off!). In Uthiru, you will not find ONE business run by a non-Kikuyu.In politics kikuyus will ALWAYS vote for their own, even if they are sure he/she will not win. Do you know of any presidential candidate whom Kikuyus campaigned for and voted for since independence? You might say they supported Tom Mboya in Nairobi. Yes, but that is only because Mboya was the antidote for Oginga Odinga. When he began to become his own man, you know what happened. Kikuyus are very calculating. They will allow a Principal who is not a Kikuyu to head a School in Kikuyuland (e.g Alliance Boys, Mangu, etc) This is because the good non-Kikuyu is teaching their children and making them pass exams. As soon as he stops delivering, they chase him away like a pig. This behaviour of Kikuyus is spoken by other tribes and perceptions are formed from this. Please I am not saying anything here to incite tribal hatred. I am sincerely trying to answer your question which I hope you also asked sincerely. I am a Taita myself and would greatly love to hear someone tell me where we Taitas go wrong.

    Sincere Kenyan.

  23. The land distributed after independence to Kikuyus was not legally acquired

After Kenyatta grabbed millions of tracks of land in his own native province which the colonialists left to be distributed amongst locals. He feared uproar from his community so he settled a large number of them in the Rift Valley.

The Kenyatta family have land that is equated to amount to the whole of nyanza province, most of it lying idle. How many millions of people live in nyanza?

  24. mmmmmm, that's a good article though somewhat frivolous. i think one slip of the tongue that you have included in your article is the claim that Kikuyus will go ballistic if someone like Agwambo ascends to power. I think that line is based on unwarranted fears coz for one any tribe knows how to go ballistic from what we have seen and Kiuks goin ballistic is just another side of the gang, and I refuse to believe that their ballistic nature can overcome the ballistic nature of all the other provinces, except Eastern, goin super-ballistic. wacha kushtua wazee, Chris; we all have the potential to soar beyond the lunatic fringe. Any1 can be a prezo of Kenya as long as the leaders preach the right message and he/she is seen to have ascended to that seat through a democratic and fair process. Wizi ndio watu hawataki, bana. don't u ask yourself why the minority Tutsis are at the helm in Rwanda even after the Hutus majority masacred them like flies? It is not in our level of madness or sheer statistical figures; rather, if a fair path is adopted through a fair process, then even the lunatics vacate the lunatic fringe to join those who make good use of their faculties to maintain all equilibrium.

We don't want to live in fears and rumours of fears. wanaume ni kumenyana lakini tuamue tuongee kama wazee wa kazi coz madness eventually wipes out all participants.

Lucy Kibaki Slaps Gitobu Imanyara, Imanyara Retaliates With A Fist!
    Posted on January 19, 2008.
There was tension at Statehouse this morning after it appeared that Lucy Kibaki had landed another hand on a newly elected legislator. This time the victim was none other than renowned lawyer Gitobu Imanyara. It is said that Imanyara retaliated by firing a fist salvo sending Lucy scampering to the floor in front of Mwai Kibaki.
Security men were called in and it is said that some of them punched and kicked Imanyara who was later taken to Nairobi hospital. It is claimed that Mr. Imanyara had been invited to Statehouse by the President to work out a possibility of filing charges against Budalangâۉ„¢i MP, Ababu Namwamba, after his attack on the President in what is now famously known as âہ“The Standing Order Of The 10th Parliament†. The first Lady was pushing for the charges to be filed. However, Mr. Imanyara insisted that it was a waste of time causing an argument and its aftermath.

On the election issue you cleverly omit the fact that Raila has also admitted to rigging and thus has no real moral ground to play the victim

    ReplyDelete
  31. I dont think any1 can preopergate anti kikuyu sentiment.

Kikuyus do that all by themselves thru their actions

    ReplyDelete
  32. Anon @ 1:27, please stop personalizing issues and accept facts. Is what has been described by Sincere Kenyan @ 10:50 true or not? Remember, Kibaki has said that he will form a truth and reconciliation committee soon. What things will be discussed by this Committee? If it is to be modeled to the South African one then all the dirty things must be said. Decisions and way forward will then be determined based on the perceptions people have. Maybe someone should also tell us the issues about Luos that make Kikuyus hate them so much, and vice versa.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Kikuyus hate Luos because they are intellectually gifted and are the biggest threat to them in terms of competition for political and intellectual space. Ironically, Luos have come to the assistance of Kikuyus at their greatest time of need 1. Oginga declared "no uhuru without Kenyatta" and paved way for Kenyatta to get the presidency. There was Tom Mboya by his side when Oginga would threaten. 2. Raila said "Kibaki tosha" and paved way for Kibaki to get the presidency. Barack Obama is vying for the USA presidency. They also hate Luos because they don't circumcise, but I find this abnoxious since traditions and customs cannot be a basis of judging across tribes. The Luos have produced Professors in their thousands and some of the most professional and intellectual Kenyans in the world are Luo.This irritates the Kikuyus very much.

    ReplyDelete
  34. yes i feel very irritated by the many luo professors. i dont even sleep at night because of it. infact am seeing a shrink about it.

    Moron.

  35. Kibaki went to Addis? Window of opportunity wasted.

    ReplyDelete
  36. You guys are still in being funny. Am a kiuk and I dont hate Luos.
But there is this stereotype that Luos have lots of domo which kiuks detest. Then the circumcision thing......Where is Kioko BC Canada???

    ReplyDelete
  37. That perception that Kiuks hate Luos is not true. Someone once said that the Luos have inferiority complex. It could have some truth after all.

    ReplyDelete
  38. @4:51
That is the explanation behind the inferiority complex of the Kikuyus.
A mature people like Luos are not afraid to elect a person from another community. We have Shabir representing Luos in parliament, replacing Gor Sunguh. Sunguh congratulated Shabir in a civilized manner. A kikuyu could have shot him(Shabir) in the head.

And then Kibaki Tosha! The Luos voted Kibaki with nearly 100% of their votes. Luos go for the truth but Kikuyus are sly, cowards, criminals, untrustworthy and brutal.

If a Luo promises to give you his vote, he will give you. If a Kikuyu promises something, be ready to get anything including death.

Kikuyus have still to develop. By the way developement has nothing to do with wealth.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Luo dont hate Kikuyus. Others Kenyans dont hate Kikuyus either. But do Kikuyus like Luos, etc?

This is part of National healing!

I have a Kikuyu neighbour in the country side of Homabay. He bought this land and has settled peacefully. He is respected and is recognized. After the elections he sneaked at night before chaos started. His home has not been torched or targetted in any way.

Question to you Kenyans. Can you imagine a Luo buying land in Kerugoya's country side and residing there befored targetted by Mungiki and others? What would happen to the home after these chaos?

Let's be fair to one another. I think Kikuyu children are being brought up to hate or to dominate or just to become rich using all means, it doesnt matter which.

Is this not what Kibaki has exhibited to Kenyan?

    ReplyDelete
  40. Someone said that kikuyus are calculating and I agree with this. Sample this, there are very few Kikuyu-Luo intermarriages and in 99% of these it is a Luo man marrying a Kikuyu girl (Examples: SM Otieno, Fidel Castro Raila, Rev David Oginde etc.) I have lived more than 40 years of adult life and I have never seen cattle of bride price moving from Luoland to Kikuyuland. Instead, I have only seen and participated in taking Luo cattle (actually money-equivalent of cattle) to Kikuyuland. Kikuyu ladies take off with the children when there is a break-up in a marriage. While married, the Kikuyu lady will always resist investing at the Nyalgunga home of the man. She will manipulate until they invest in at least a "neutral" ground like Nairobi, Nakuru, Nyahururu etc. And even when she agrees to invest in Kisumu, she will ensure that the title deeds, business etc have her name or those of the children on them. Very calculating. In a break-up between a Luo man and Kikuyu woman, the woman almost always benefits more. I want anybody to give me statistics that prove me wrong. Have you ever wondered, why do Kikuyus look down on Luo men as uncircumsised and yet allow their daughters to get married to them? Very calculating. Luhya, Luo, Coastal and even Kamatusa women rarely do these calculations. Also, intermarriage between Luos and these other tribes are almost 50-50 i.e Luo husband/other wife-Other husband/Luo wife. Hey Kiuks, give us the formulae of your calculations.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I am a KAMATUSA man and I know that the things that make us dislike the Kikuyus cuts across those others that similarly dislike them: For one, kikuyus are too money-minded and are not team players. They like domineering and quickly go for the juiciest part of the pie. Kikuyus were never involved in team sports like football, cricket, rugby, volleyball even athletics until they began paying well. Just recently the longstanding women volleyball captain Dorcas Nandasaba had to face the embarrassment of being dropped out of the team that was to go to Japan for world cup with the vague reason that she was too old. The real reason was that a kikuyu lady was to be made captain by hook or crook. Dorcas took the flight at the last minute after Kenyans protested and ended up being the best player of the team. The best players in team sports in Kenya are Luos/Luhyas/Coastals in football, Kalenjins in athletics, Luos/Luhyas in cricket/rugby and Luhyas/Kalenjins in volleyball. Most of the kikuyus who win in athletics more often than not do so alone, not from team effort and strategy. There is a saying that a Kikuyu can smell money anywhere it is. Many Kikuyus will keep friendship only for as long as they benefit from it. "A friend in need is a friend indeed" is not in their vocabulary.Another detestable thing about kikuyus is that they look down on other tribes. Other tribes give social/family attributes more importance than money, but for Kikuyus it is money first. Other tribes value their dead and bury them next to their homes, kikuyus have no time for the dead and bury them in cemeteries far from home after staying thro'out at the mortuary. They say when you see one cockroach walking on the wall, there are a thousand others hidden in the woodwork. The same could be said of kikuyus.
But kikuyus have a good side too. They are able to see opportunities where others don't. They take big risks in ventures where others would recoil. They are very adaptable and can be found thriving in any corner of the country and beyond.

  42. Odinga's Family has twice supported Kikuyu leadership. The first time was when Jaramogi Oginga Odinga declined assuming the presidency handed to him by Britain before Jomo Kenyatta was released from detention. The second one was when Raila(the man the Kikuyus now call a power hungry dictator) galvanized the Luo community behind Kibaki in 2002.

This is the family which understands the meaning of "ASANTE YA PUNDA NI MATEKE".

Odinga may die without being the president of Kenya; but other young tribal leaders who allow themselves to be used as porns by the Kikuyus must take some lesson from this family. YOU CAN FOOL SOME PEOPLE SOME OF THE TIME (ODINGA'S FAMILY); BUT, YOU CANNOT FOOL EVERYBODY(kenyans) ALL THE TIME.
THE KIKUYUS CAN USE USA AND BRITAIN TO HANG ON TO POWER. MOBUTU DID THE SAME AND DIED/BURRIED IN EXILE. USA AND BRITAIN DID NOT HELP HIM BECAUSE THEIR INTERESTS ARE NOT HUMAN BASED, THEY ARE 'NATURAL RESOURCES' BASED. HUMANS CAN BE CHANGED!!!

  43. I don't agree with the thought, the idea of having a bunch of soldiers is a prescription to unforseable problems, especially in a divided force.

I WILL SUGGEST, HOWEVER, THAT THE EA POLICE FORCE CREATION COMMENCE, AS AN INTEGRATED FORCE TO BRING THINGS UNDER CONTROL. THIS IS THE CLOSEST WE'LL GET TO ANY UN FORCES. SO TANZANIA, KAGAME, MUSEVENI AND KENYA SHOULD COME TOGETHER AS A SIGN OF THEIR COMMITMENT AS EAST AFRICANS TO DEFEND OUR SECURITY AND ECONOMIC WELLBEING AS EAST AFRICANS.
WE CANNOT CONTINUE TO WAIT FOR HANDOUT FOR THE WEST TO COME IN TO SAVE OUT LAND!!

i believe a new identity as east africans has to emerge. We need to get beyond tribal mediocrity.
I'm not suggesting political interference by foreign powers on internal affairs, but policing and security in affected areas. This will aid in the red cross and the peace process towards a resolution i believe.

    I'd appreciate any thought..

  45. For there to be an EA police, each of the member countries have to institute or amend laws to allow them to work beyond their borders. Even when this has been done, the EA parliament has then to pass laws on how to manage such a force. Under whose charge will it be? How will police work without bias if the presidents of the member countries are supporting one side of the protagonists e.g how will the Uganda Police work together in harmony with those of Ruanda when Mu7 is supporting Kibaki and Kagame (who doesn't like Mu7)is supporting Raila? Who will fund, equip and sustain the forces when they will be at work? And finally, since the work of the police is to maintain law and order and each of the member countries has its own laws and order, which law and order will they be maintaining? I think this idea is not practical, especially in the African context.

  46. Most of the arguments here border simply on misconceived notions and ideas. Ati Kiuks are what!!!? Calculating? Money-minded? Selfish? My my I laughed as i read most of the posts here. They are too comical but at the base of everything, I sense a genuineness to embrace and be embraced. I am a Kiuk but I went to a national school where my first friend was a Giriama. Then I had a Luo fella who was really cool. There was a Somali too, a Bajuni from Lamu and others. At no time did I ever "calculate" on our relationships. We were simply friends. We still are.
Later I joined another organized institute and I had a friend from Taita in Weruga. I almost married a Taita woman but things didn't quite work out well. I also had a good Luo friend from South C. We used to attend concerts at KICC with Luo gals and sometimes Kiuks.
So here I am listening to all of you guys as you rant and rave about the Kiuks and I'm left wondering whether we're discussing the same group of people I know. Sure the Kiuks are calculating but who is not unless the grey matter is really wanting! All tribes are calculating. In fact it's human to be calculating otherwise Lions of Serengeti would build barns to store the wildebeest meat before they emigrate to Masai Mara. But do they do that? No! They follow the migrating beasts around even when the odds are stacked heavily against them.
The world of business dictates that you must bury competition to thrive. The Indians do the same. The Jews. The Latino. In fact it makes most sense if you can hire someone who you share same philosophical ideas. If you doubt what I'm saying, go to Hollywood CA and try getting a job on the big screen. That's when you'll know that Jews own not only Cinema but the media as well, in the USA. How do you explain why some bad movies like BORAT were successful? You guessed right! Kamwene!
What am I saying? I am saying that most of what the Kiuks are being accused of smirks of pure envy and guys you must let go. Let go! Leave Kikuyus alone to do their businesses wherever they want in the country. If you can compete with them, well and good. May the best man win! But saying that they only do business with each other blah blah ain't gonna help. All communities in the world gravitate towards each other.
I have been to Narok Town. Kiuks run the businesses. Maralal, Lodwar, Wamba, Suguta Marmar, Kisima, places where they offer essential services to the local population. Hey! I never mentioned Makutano after Kitale plus of course many other Towns in western Kenya.
So fellow Kenyans it's time we all acknowledged that each one of us has something to offer. The Kalenjins earn Megabucks on the track. We need a world class stadium in Eldoret not burning businesses down. Those are the same people who can invest in such a venture. We need a World Cup class stadium in Kisumu and Kakamega. We need to harness and develop the Sports Industry that has remained dormant all this years. Kenyans can run great professional football teams where we can "machete" each other with soccer boots and the sole piece of leather. I believe when that happens, you'll see great teams rising from Kerugoya and Gatundu doing justice to Migori and Kaitui Teams! Remember that guys because the Sports Industry can create more jobs than anything else we've seen so far. If Kagame with his tiny country is having a great league where players make good money, why not Kenya? But we'll need investors and destroying businesses is not one way of building investor confidence.
    Kenya is a great country.

  47. We all donate our forces to the UN and AU to go fight in sudan and elsewhere, funded by member states. They've worked side by side before, irrespective. The synergies are manageable by a committed force.
This is a trying moment and our cohesive integration as a community here is being tested i believe. Kenya is now an irritation to the regions economic prosperity, being caused by youngsta hooligans for the most part blinded by tribal chiefs, and our police force being stretched to the max. The Red cross cannot perform it duties efficiently for being harassed and road blocks.
The presence of a no nonsense security force, even without firing a single shot goes very far.
No one has to die in the hands of hooligans!!!

  52. Thanks for the report. Sounds credible to me too but it was devious and ruthlessness of M7 and Kagame that stands out. Dangerous duo.

Kenyans we need to preach peace. We must come together as a nation not sink deeper into war-like activities. It's so sad to see very young men, mostly teens, turned into killers by this political stalemate. Kibaki and Raila are both to blame for bickering like little children as the country burns. "I won", "You stole", "I won duh!" "You stole stupid!", they go all day long as young boys grow more and more desperate and resort to senseless killings. Who among them can be considered a statesman? In fact Kalonzo comes across as a more mature dude. His rhetorics are not inflammatory but reconciliatory which is what we need right now.

  53. Permanent Solution:

The few who own huge tracts of land should voluntarily surrender 75% of their respective land to be distributed to the poor and displaced.

  54. Kazamwendo,

It is not just our reputation that is gone. The future of our children and grandchildren is also at jeopardy as they witness the history of 'democracy' in kenya being writing with fresh blood of the innocent.

We should not assume a business as usual position because doing so will just cool the situation for a while and come 2012, if not earlier, we shall see a reprisal by a people so betrayed by the ruling elite. We must sort this situation once and for all rather than calling for unity when we all know that in the current Kenya unity is just a mirrage.

Kibaki has betrayed our nationhood and defiled our innocence. He has thrown mud on the faces of the voters and is now threatening then and taunting them. I sometimes wonder whether he is still in control of his mental faculties.

Kenya legislator says first lady assaulted him 04 Feb 2008 12:57:06 GMT
    Source: Reuters
NAIROBI, Feb 4 (Reuters) - A Kenyan legislator accused First Lady Lucy Kibaki of physically assaulting him at a meeting at the official State House residence three weeks ago and said he planned to sue her.

Government-allied legislator Gitobu Imanyara, a lawyer who unsuccessfully sued the first lady on behalf of a television cameraman who said she slapped him in 2005, told reporters he had been the latest target of Lucy Kibaki's ire.

The president is currently wrestling with a national crisis over disputed elections that have ignited opposition calls for his removal and widespread ethnic bloodshed. On the accusations against his wife, his office had no immediate comment.

"I will be bringing proceedings against her this week, so we can give her an opportunity to come to court and tell the Kenyan people why she thinks that she has control of State House, that she can run amok," Imanyara told reporters.

He said he was in State House for a meeting about the race for parliament speaker when the first lady became angry at his presence because he had been involved in the earlier lawsuit.

"She was in pyjamas and not wearing any shoes. She immediately started throwing punches at me shouting 'nobody goes here without my permission'," Imanyara said.

    PROTECTIVE

Imanyara said President Kibaki had apologised and he had initially decided to keep quiet. But he said Lucy Kibaki had been "screaming and talking about it".

Lucy Kibaki, known to be fiercely protective of her husband, has been at the centre of controversy on several occasions.

In December, local media reported that she slapped a protocol official who called her by the name of a woman widely reported to be the president's second wife.

In 2005, she stormed Nation Media's newsroom to complain about a story and slapped cameraman Clifford Derrick while her security detail and police looked on helplessly as she kept journalists there for hours.

In fact she had the wrong newsroom, as the source of her anger was a story by the rival Standard media group.

In 2004, she publicly upbraided Vice President Moody Awori, who called her the "second lady." She also shouted down a former World Bank country director for playing loud music at a party at the home he had rented from the Kibaki family.
