Why We Are All Missing The Point About The Media

Guest post by Dr. M. Yusuf

I have taught Journalism for the last six 1/2 years. Many of you have condemned these bloggers in Kumekucha for being irresponsible; I don't agree. We must stop burying our heads in some virtual sands and pretend that nothing bad has been happening in Kenya since 30/12/2007. When politicians go round preaching "PEACE" they don't seem to believe in while disregarding the atrocities already committed against a section of the population, it's both wrong to the dead and the relatives of the dead.

Let's visit the victims in Eldoret who took issues with Kibaki when he tried to tell them that local Chiefs would look into their problems... that's how victims feel... "their sufferings is NO BIG DEAL and should just be brushed off as politicians have bigger issues to deal with..."

The denialists on this blog are no different from the politicians living in fortified homes and posh hotels who pretend that those who have died (killed or committed suicide) didn't, don't and will never matter...

If we were to rewind a bit, when the war in Iraq started in 2003, most American media shied away from providing the true casualty figures. This led to most Americans and the rest of the world failing to truly understanding the real effects of the Iraqi war. It was until 2005 that NBC decided to air the names of US service men and women who were dying, killed or otherwise in Iraq, that the support for war died off. It is thus irresponsible of the local media to join the denialists' bandwagon. Such blogs are just providing the aspect of information to the public that has been ignored by the self-serving media. Responsible journalism also means providing the truth... burying the status in the country at some dark corners of our newsrooms is and will never be the answer.

Reconciliation also means people knowing and understanding what exactly happened. DON'T HIDE THE INFO

THOSE CALLING ON THIS BLOGGER TO REMOVE THE PICTURES ARE CULPABLE AND THIS EXPLAINS WHY THEY REMAIN ANONYMOUS...

  2. Straight and to the point...

The truth shall set you free...

Let the truth be told of PNU activities

Let the truth be told of ODM activities

Let the truth be told of ODM-K activities

only then will peace and justice prevail

  3. IF THOSE PICTURES ARE REAL, THEN ASK YOURSELF WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE? WHO INSTIGATED THESE HEDIOUS ACTS?

"We are slaughtering them and we will keep on slaughtering them," said Okelo, who got up at 6 a.m. and walked nine miles from the outskirts of the city to march in support of Odinga.

Okelo said he killed two people with a machete for the first time Wednesday because, "when you are angry, it's easy. If they refuse our president, Raila Odinga to address the rally, it will happen again. We shall slaughter the Kikuyus. It will go on and on and on, in all parts of the country."

its people the likes of you that have brought kenya a lot of pain, misery and death. Trusts me, there are no need for threats as we already know much of everything to even bother with threats.
every kenya wants to see justice and the Raila's and Rutos of this world will pay for what they have done.

  13. Go To the police and tell them to arrest Ruto and Raila.

You can go ahead and institute a private law suite against the two with the evidence you have.

  15. Philip aka (Ochi), no need to be defensive like this bwana. When the dust settles every stoned will be turned over.
We need toi speak the same language, unfortunatley for some of you, their loyalty to ODM has been manifested into inciting violence throught the media.
ODM IS CRACKING, and I am not sure how long it will last.
Raila does not care about kenyan people rathar than his own political ambitions. How can he call upon more protests when so many people have already died? he knows he's party is breaking aprt and he is resorting to mass rallies to save the day. mass rallies for total chaos, destruction, and death of our own flesh and blood.

  16. I won't reson with this fool. see you in the other end.

  17. So what makes you think everyone standing up for justice and peace is a Jaruo, just out to support Raira and Thugs from ODM?

    You miss the whole point.

    My Full name is

Philip Roy Kombo not aka "Ochi" or anything of the sort.

As I said, go report this so called thugs and call it a day. So that Kazi can go on for the more development conscious Kenyans as Kibaki says...

    Wacha Domo Domo humu......

    ReplyDelete
  18. Its true that the calling for the rallies is a bad idea, but the problem is Kibaki is pushing and somebody has to push him back.

Parliament almost everybody from the Eastern side of Kenya seems to be siding with Kibaki,so that means less control for ODM.

The courts are filled with PNU sympathizers ...

The streets will be field with GSU.....

Kenyans love peace,so that is a good blackmailing tool...

If ODM gives in, Kibaki will definitely step all over them for the next five years and in the process make Kalonzo stronger for 2012 rigging/elections....

If ODM pushes too much they will be viewed as people out for raw power and eventually a civil war will occur.....

In short ODM is between a rock and a hard place

  19. Oh yeah? I can assure YOU I am ready to take my so called punishment just like Mbai, Ouko, JM and the rest did. But then do not you forget, lets see wait and see what justice await your demi-god Kibaki for commanding his forces to kill innocent and unarmed civilians. Like I said before, it will make others look like child's play.

I can see MR ANONYMOUS, like many PNU ministers, is arrogant and goes as far as threatening independent bloggers. Its not surprising YOU DONT HAVE A SINGLE POINT argument to challenge Dr. YUSUF's eye-opening remarks above.

If you think such threats will reduce our resolve in publishing the truth, you are very mistaken. Keep visiting Kumekucha and we shall indeed enlighten YOU.

Alternatively, you can smash your computer screen I may feel some damage on this end. Ama meza wembe!

  20. Philip Roy, or Kombo or Ochi or whatever, can you please get less emotional when writing your posts. You have a lot of sense in what you are writing but you are being carried away. You are making a gargatuan spelling, grammar or typo in evenry sentence.

I am not perfect, but please get less eeotional. Any reader of your post will notice that you are getting worked up and that is why you have these mistakes.

Ik any case, wewe ni mtu wangu kabisa.

    WE'RE WAITING!!
    back to you.

  24. "It's like cutting a Mugumo tree with a razor blade" that's what President Kibaki said during the fight for multi-party, when Matiba and the rest decided to fight for social justice and remove Kenya from a one party state under Moi and KANU regime. The so-called Saba Saba days...it's so ironic now, if we didn't have section 2(a) in the constitution amendment, we might not have removed Moi from power and Kibaki would not have enjoyed his tea with Lucy at Ikulu ya Nairobi for "2" consecutive terms. Knock on wood! Ever heard of spoils of war? that's Kibaki's forte since he entered politics...he knows when to rip from other peoples sweat and outcry. I love this guy!

  26. Phil I knew that one of this anonymous must be Derro or is it Dello and i bet he is the anon @1:19 and still anon@1:38....These guys have remained to be irrelevant, i think the idea of breaked ranks or broken ranks is a wishful thinking from PNU activists. If anyone from RV, Nyanza, Coast, Western, Nairobi or NEP would dare join PUNU he will have to face the wrath of those who elected them and not the ODM secretariat. I voted for Raila coz he was in ODM i wouldn't have if he was in PUNU? I am imagining Gumo, Were jumping ship to join PUNU then there are made mimisters for what, Gender, Sports....Come on this ministries don't have clout.
And those that think that this is an ODM blog...What are they doing here can they move to a PUNU blog. Simple if the heat is too hot ..get out of the kitchen

  27. oh and they should stop threatening....The only emotional bloggers here are Vikii and Derro Aka Dello
