Looters Hurriedly Return Stolen Goods In Mombasa Fearing Witchcraft

After posting some pretty grim articles and pictures here over the last few hours, it is only fair that we now try something on a lighter note.

Believe it or not, some Kenyans who had their property looted at Mombasa have had it returned. It is said that looters on hearing that the property owners were going to consult witchdoctors to get their things back, hurriedly fell over themselves in a desperate attempt to return looted property.
According to sources, even Kikuyu entrepreneurs who generally have no interest in visiting witchdoctors took advantage of the fear in the people and started dropping names of a few famous ones at the Coast. The result has always been instantaneous. One owner of a wood furniture workshop in Mwandoni was shocked to see a huge queue of looters returning raw timber and furniture items one morning recently.

But according to some reports not all looters were so lucky. For instance some rowdy youths who raided a bar in the Likoni area landed in hospital soon after. The problem? For some unexplained reasons, they could not pass urine or stool. If this continues for a certain length of time it can be life-threatening.

All the victims believed that they had been caught in some “witchcraft trap” set by the owner of the business where they stole. If you have lived in Mombasa for any length of time you will always hear people saying that businesses are “protected” by some invisible forces.

In another episode some looters who had raided an Arab’s shop selling cloth materials died after suddenly falling sick soon after the incident. Their colleagues who were hospitalized only recovered after their relatives returned the looted property and the owner accepted to forgive them. One regular Kumekucha informer assured this blogger that people who were sick to the point of death recovered instantaneously when so called quick thinking relatives rushed to the owner of the looted property.

Despite the fact that there are many superstitious Kenyans who live in the Rift Valley, Nyanza and Western, Mombasa is the only area in the country where a lot of looted property has been voluntarily returned to their rightful owners by looters.

  1. Funny, but lets get back to the ISSUES!

People, Raila is self-destructing. As a matter of fact, his latest declaration about his relations with Presidential Aspirant Obama (Cousins--even Dick Cheney is cousins with Obama, and Fred Gumo is cousins with Raila..One big family!) may have been the thing that UNDID him.
International bloggers all over the world are now having a critical long hard look on Raila
    1.) His Muslim Connections
    2.)His al-qaeda connections
3.) His agenda for kenya--albeit one thats very selfish and self promoted
    4.) His connections with Obama
5.)Others have gone ahead to pin point him as one who is behind the killings (wow...how did they know?)

The chilling part is that they are now using this to pile pressure on Obama who has long been accused of being a muslim mole--even a manchurian candidate---in the US race.
Obama is being asked to come out openly to denounce Odinga or bid his presidential bid (no pun intended) goodbye.
This animal is taking a life of its own...Raila created it, it will now UNDO him.

We ask Raila to tread carefully because we want him to become president, but he has a knack for self destruction. Please avoid this, Raila.

  3. On another light note, I heard from family in Kisumu that the TV's stolen from Ukwala, et al, are now crying:
"Return me to Ukwala. Return me to Ukwala."
Add that computer generated tone to it and you get the picture.

  4. So, what is the real problem with Raila being related to Obama. Am sure its distant but thats besides the issue here. Did you choose not to be related to Obama. Some things we have no control over. Moreso, Obama is among the most influential leaders of a very HEAVY country.Obama stands for justice and change and what was done in Kenya was not justice and much as you guys will want him to denounce Raila, he just won't. Period. As a matter of fact I am in contact with him. I know people have issues with Luos ( I don't know why?, that is why they go to great lengths to frustrate them BUT facts are these people are more organized and cleverer that their counterparts, BTW am not a Luo)

  5. Rahayemasther--we know you are not a luo, welcome to this forum from Punjab, we are glad to have broadbased presentation.
How era, (however), I assure you, Raila will NEVER EVER talk of Obama in public again. He has been asked to stop doing that because it has been messing up Obama Campaign in the US.

  6. Here is the agreement that
was to be signed between Raila Odinga and President Kibaki to end the political
impasse brought about by the disputed presidential election results.
It was to be witnessed by
mediator John Kufuor who is the President of Ghana and also the chairman of
African Union, British high commissioner Adam Wood, US ambassador Michael Ranneberger,
French ambassador Elisabeth Barbier and the local head of the European Union.
    However, State House has
disowned it saying it was first brought to their attention Thursday afternoon
    by the Ghanaian delegation.
    Principles of
    agreement
    “His Excellency Hon Mwai
Kibaki and Hon Raila Amolo Odinga, being committed to the maintenance of the
rule of law and to sustenance of democratic governance in the Republic of Kenya,
    AND BEING CONCERNED with
the violence, the loss of lives and property following the pronouncement of the
presidential election results, commit ourselves to a speedy resolution of the
unfolding events to ensure that our great Nation returns to stability.
    Numerous issues have
arisen in connection with the conduct of the Electoral Commission of Kenya
including the tallying, compilation and declaration of the presidential
election result. Voters on both sides feel aggrieved and concerned.
    We confirm our commitment
to address all the issues arising from or connected to the presidential
    elections through a process which:-

    (ii)
shall not be subject to control by either party, and
    (iii)
whose findings and recommendations we agree to be bound by.
    2. The issues to be
determined through the process shall include:
    (i) To
inquire into the conduct of the ECK and the role of the observers in the
conduct of the presidential elections including the declaration of results.
    (ii) The
composition of ECK and remedial action which may be undertaken to ensure its
independence, impartiality, capacity and effectiveness in discharge of its
    constitutional and statutory mandate.
    (iii) To
identify measures that will help to restore and sustain voter confidence in Kenya’s
    electoral process.
    (iv) To look
into the circumstances leading to the declaration of presidential election
results and determine whether it is necessary to carry out a rerun of the
presidential elections, and if so, provide the time-frame and modalities of
    carrying out such elections
    (v) To make
recommendation on the structure of government pending the conduct of the
    presidential re-run or otherwise.
    (vi) We
agree that a credible process acceptable to all Kenyans will be carried out by
a panel of eminent African persons.
    The panel will make such
recommendations as are necessary to resolve the issues and concerns arising
from or connected to all the referred matters.
    The panel shall make
their findings and recommendations within 30 days of the date of execution of
this agreement, which findings and recommendations shall be binding on both
    parties.

outstanding problems, all Kenyans should refrain from acts of violence and
maintain law and order and all internal security agencies will be required to
act in accordance with the law.
    In the interim, there
shall be a coalition government whose composition shall be agreed upon on the
basis of equal representation both in numbers and portfolio with the prior
approval and endorsement by the perspective sides. The strategies and
programmes of such government shall be subject to agreement of both sides.
    We, the
undersigned, solemnly undertake to procure Members of Parliament supporting our
respective parties to enact such legislation, whether statutory or
constitutional, as may be necessary to facilitate the implementation of the
recommendations and of above matters if and where required

  7. Chris,

This is a public board where public opinion should be allowed to thrive in the spirit of democrasy. WTF am i talking about?

when the photo essay started going out of hand (according to phil and probably you), you tried (with much success) to kill it with this bullshit post about mombasa. we cant afford to laugh - i thought that was your earlier theme!

now as you can see, bloggers are more interested in the truth.

by the way, railas son is named fidel. there are some things one cannot easily run away from. a lot of this muck is well known in kenya. but as you know politics here (and pretty much everywhere) is about who shouts loudest. it takes the inaction of good people for evil to triumph. it almost happened in kenya - time will bear me witness.

  8. OBAMA WILL NEVER BECOME THE AMERICAN PRESIDENT WHY?

    1. HE IS ASSOCIATED WITH A KILLER RAILA ODINGA AND HIS PROXIES.

    2. RAILA CAME OUT AND SAID OBAMA IS HIS COUSIN
(Kenya's defeated presidential challenger Raila Odinga has claimed to be a cousin of Barack Obama and said that they had discussed his country's post-election violence.)

    3. GOP (REPUBLICANS) WILL UTILIZE THIS PROPAGANDA AND THE AMERICANS WILL NOT VOTE FOR HIM

    4. THEY WILL SHOW ALL THE PICTURES IN KENYA ESPECIALLY KISUMU (where obamas father from)EVICTING,BURNING AND KILLING THE KIKUYUS

    5. THEY WILL ASK OBAMA WHY HE CANT TELL RAILA TO STOP THE VIOLENCE SINCE THEY ARE RELATED AND HE CALLS HIM NOW AND THEN.

    6. FRIENDS OF OBAMA AND THE GOP DONATED 220 MILLION KSH FOR THE KENYAN GENOCIDE THAT IS HAPPENING NOW (READ ODM STRATEGY PAPER)

    7. THAT’S WHY OBAMA LOST IN NEWHAMSHIRE PRIMARIES.

    8. THEY WILL QUESTION THE MOU RAILA HAD WITH THE MUSLIMS AND ALSO OBAMA IS CALLED “HUSSEIN”.DENIES MUSLIM LINK

    9. ALL THE GOONS WHO ARE CAUSING THE CHAOS ARE COMING OUT SAYING “ NO RAILA NO PEACE”

    10. HILLARY CLINTON WILL USE THIS AS A POINTER THAT OBAMA CANNOT EVEN QUELL HIS FAMILY MEMBERS FROM STOPING THE VIOLENCE IN KENYA. HOW WILL HE LEAD AMERICA???

  11. Violence, propaganda and misinformation - that has been the primary ODM strategy for handling the inevitable loss of 2007 elections.

The blood of Kenyans is in the hands of Raila and Ruto. Nothing prevented them from coming out strongly for peace.

With the majority in parliament, they could pass laws to fix the rigging problem permanently and to improve conditions for the poor.

They could have used the next 5 years to push for the change they promised through PARLIAMENT and win over the Kenyans who did not vote for them in order to guarantee a landslide victory for Raila in 2012.

It is a well known fact that ODM Supporters started the murders by targeting Kikuyus.

Those who Murdered their neighbours wives, husbands and children have brought a curse on themselves and their families. May God have Mercy on them.

Shame on you fellow Kenyans for being so cold blooded as to support cold blooded murderers.

  13. KISUMU ECONOMU IN TROUBLE. RAILA'S PEOPLE ARE SUFFERING BECAUSE OF HIS PROPAGANDA TACTICS
A group of financial experts are casting doubts on the economic recovery of Kisumu, after protesters destroyed several businesses rendering thousands of people jobless.
    Week-long fracas
The institutions estimate that 184 shops were looted and destroyed in Kisumu during the week-long fracas, in addition to an estimated loss of 5000 jobs.
Mr Deya said this might not augur well for micro-finance institutions in terms of outstanding loans repayment, and interests and other loan-related charges.
While some of their members may have been displaced, others died in the riots, leaving the micro-finance organisations with a huge bill of unpaid loans and interests.
As a result of the violence, he says, SMEs still have a long way to go to match the escalating operating costs with a dwindling revenue base.
Some business premises that have started their operations have to incur the extra cost of armed security personnel, Mr Deya said.

  24. MY DEAR KENYANS THIS IS WHAT KUMEKUCHA IS PROPOSING....
    Slaughter Postponed
    Odinga called the rally off.

NAIROBI, KENYA -- Kenya's opposition today postponed its banned "million-man march," called to protest claimed rigging in the country's presidential elections, as tribal violence and tit-for-tat ethnic killings continued.

Kenyan riot police had earlier fired tear gas and water cannons at thousands of opposition protesters waving branches and white cloths, stopping them from marching to the banned rally at a city park. [SNIP]

From early morning until Odinga called off the rally mid-afternoon, a line of heavily armed riot police blocked the demonstrators, mostly ethnic Luos, in the slum area of Kibera, home to about 1 million people.

Thank God that there was no rally.

    However, there's this chilling "interview."

Some of the protesters insisted their actions today were peaceful, but most were angry, frustrated and full of venom for Kikuyus. Some, like one young protester named Gabriel Okelo, threatened to keep on killing Kikuyus until Kibaki steps down.

"We are slaughtering them and we will keep on slaughtering them," said Okelo, who got up at 6 a.m. and walked nine miles from the outskirts of the city to march in support of Odinga.

Okelo said he killed two people with a machete for the first time Wednesday because, "when you are angry, it's easy. If they refuse our president, Raila Odinga to address the rally, it will happen again. We shall slaughter the Kikuyus. It will go on and on and on, in all parts of the country."

I don't believe anymore in 'peaceful demonstrations for democracy' - it will be mob rule once again. Too many of his supporters will be all too ready to get drunk on their hate and start new pogroms.

I don't understand this man anymore. He seems like a spoilt child who will rather break its toy than have another child play with it.

As mark ochieng already mentioned, Odinga has a majotity in parliament. He could do a lot with this if it was actually Kenya and her people on his mind. But he's not interested.

  39. anon at 1:57 complained about 'Kibaki goons' - I don't think everybody against Raila Odinga is necessarily a Kibaki supporter.
Kibaki might be a brilliant economist and it cannot be disputed that he did a great work in bringing Kenya forward economically (maybe too good when some Western countries certainly aren't too happy about this).
But other than that Kibaki is not quite a statesman to look up to. If only his ethics would match his economics but they don't.

    However, Raila Odinga is worse.

I repeat a comment of mine on another article:

Everybody knows the election was rigged, that's one thing.

But what's shocking is how some folks got exposed AFTER the vote, when it came out what the ODM ist all about, what is up with Raila and Ruto.

Instigated ethnic hatered, constant threats of a civil war if Raila does not get his ways, killing and terror. He's just another Moi and even worse with his majimboism. And no, the GSU isn't the only one with guns, Rutos Karamajong Guerillas have loads of guns, too.

No-one is really happy with Kibaki in the statehouse but what is the alternative?

A bunch of reckless Idi Amins?

  40. I say, you should go back to the days when the campaigns started. Raila had the backing of some journalists in getting he's propaganda through. I won't go into the details as I am in the process of getting to understand how this situation unfolds. It was all planned but i don't think Raila was preapred to loose this election nor were his supporters. the dirty-media campaign behind it strated somewhere in december 2006. this is funny but i will load you up later guys.

  43. A little taste for those who have eyes

" The African Strong Man model suits the purposes of European imperialists and the United States, perfectly. Their overarching concern– especially since the collapse of the Soviet Union – is for the multinational mineral and petroleum-extracting corporations – what Europeans and Americans are actually referring to when they speak of their “national interests” on the continent. Representing himself and a small base of supporters/dependents, the Strong Man can be counted on to bully civil society into steadily narrowing spaces, snuffing out all independent social formations, while at the same time stripping the society of the means to protect itself outside of his own, capricious machinery. The nation itself atrophies, or is stillborn, as in Congo. Where nations have not had the chance to take full root or have been deliberately stunted, the Strong Man wraps the thin reeds of sovereignty around himself, denying the people their means of connectedness to one another, except through him. The state is a private apparatus and – from the standpoint of civil society – there appears to be no nation, at all. The people act, accordingly – that is, they do not act as citizens of a nation. "
