Breaking News: Another Opposition MP Shot Dead

Hon David Kimutai the MP for Ainamoi constituency has been shot dead. His body is lying at the Moi Teaching and Referal hospital in Eldoret.

It is not clear exactly what happened but Kenyans are in shock because the other slain MP Mugabe Were is yet to be buried. It is believed that he was shot outside an Eldoret hotel by a police officer. Unconfirmed reports claim that the death may have been linked to a love affair.

We will give you more details as we get them. I am also expecting some details from Phil.

  1. What has happened to the police officer. Was he arrested?

  2. It is not funny that the Eldoret police boss, much like Kiraithe in Nairobi soon after Were's assassination, had an explanation for the killing of David Too. He glibly went 'it's a love triangle'. Well Kenya is burning and as I write this, there are helicopters all over UG and Kericho to continue with state-sponsored murder of angry, innocent protesters. The country has gone to the dogs.

  3. Do u believe that bull and crap story... ati a police officer..

  4. oh God gracious, why again. God help Kenya. an MP represents a big number of people with many supporters and this is risky for the country.

i appeal to the people of Rift valley to remain calm. my condolences to the entire country over this yet very unfortunate death.

  5. Kibaki and people from his inner circle are assassinating opposition MPs. They want control over parliament at whatever cost. They are unbelievably ruthless.

  6. Annan atoke awache watu watwangane as some wld say osechare ga minga.
God help us i'm afraid very afraid!

  7. Kibaki will continue killing opposition MPs until he has majority in parliament. Then he will tell the opposition that they should accept verdicts of parliamentary votes.
He is no gentleman at all. He is ruthless and power hungry and corrupt.

  8. Say what you like but this is definately a love triangle gone sour.

  9. The Police took only 1 hour to figure out the killer, his motive, etc.

Kenya Police are the greatest in the world, remember they also figured out that Ouko had committed sucide!

Who is in charge of Kenya, I beg to ask, who???

  10. My be this is the beggining of the end of the country called KENYA.How can a police officer shot an mp?And by the way dont these mps have bodyguards?Mr Kibaki should be send back home since he has failed to protect kenyans.

  11. the MP has been assassinated.
that kibaki wanted to rule by Gun cant be gainsaid.
however when will ODM realises that they are being taken for granted in this case and that they better start doing something more serious or allow a thief to rule by being mum?

when will ODM leave just simply press conferences and start chatting the way forward.
will we react when we loose ruto, raila or mudavadi?
now u will get that ODm suporters have been killed just for protesting while the mungiki is terrosing Kenyans and they go scot free.
why is it that in naivasha against kiuks nobody was shot dead but the end of today not less than 10 ODM supporters will be shot dead.

  12. The Police force should be ashamed of themselves. Ati love affair!!!!!!!!!!!! wakwende uko kabisa. I dont even see the point of koffi Anan continuing with the peace talks while the government itself cannot honour even his presence. could'nt they even be patient enoung for Anan to leave before they start the killings!!!! I MISS THE KENYA I KNEW A WHILE AGO.

  13. Chris.

YET ANOTHER (VERY) DARK DAY FOR THIS COUNTRY.

WE SAID IT BEFORE AND WE REPEAT IT AGAIN.

These murders/assasinations are meant to reduce ODMs numbers in the house, distablize ODM through b y-elections and sabotage the Kofi Annan peace talks. In short, drive this country to anarchy.

Name of the dead MP is David Too. Not certain at the moment, the party has been thrown into a spin! Henry Kosgei says he was short at a police road block. Will get details and confirm.

To decimate the ODM Lakini sasa this is past Elections.

  15. This is too coincidental especially at a time when the gvt is desperate to cling on to power.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Why do we still preach peace? Kibaki must step down now! Kenya should not go to the dogs just for the sake of a Political Thief.
ODM MUST NOW SUSPEND ALL PEACE TALKS AND LET KENYANS DECIDE IF WE STILL WANT KIBAKI AS OUR DICTATOR

  17. its another sad day for Kenya.may God almighty hear the cry of his people and save Kenya. 19. It is trully sad what is happening to our peaceful country kenya. Innocent people are losing their lives, our country is weeping we need to pray earnestly for God to save us from this pain and bloodshed. I would also like to add that we as Kenyans, are the ones to make a difference lets PREACH PEACE we are all brothers and sisters and children of Kenya.I feel some comments posted up that Kibaki is killiing these MP's is wrong. We should refrain from making such comments for it will only fuel more violence.P.S Not a PNU or ODM supporter. PREACH PEACE MY FELLOW KENYANS.

  20. I agree with Anon 3:22 ---- also in Ouko's case they first said it was a 'love triangle' and only when this did not work, they tried to paint it as 'suicide' ....
the Kenyan police is known to cover up if and when they are told that it is in the 'interest of the State' .........

    ReplyDelete
  21. I still find it hard to believe that even after Mr. Were was shot dead, his fellow MP's still are exposing themselves to the would be killers. Are they really taking their security seriously or they have also just resigned to fate?

The question we are asking now is who is next?

    ReplyDelete
  22. This is scheme that was well thought of to say that it was a "love triangle".

But consider this, the police say that Mr Too was travelling from Nbi to Eldoret and that the police officer pursued him on BICYCLE..... from NBI to ELDORET?Are they normal?

How many road block where there btwn Nbi and Eldoret for him to jump of his bicycle in Eldoret to shoot Mr Too?

Then there is the question of the mysterious woman who cannot be identified and the press are vigorously trying to find out who this woman is, if at all she EXISTS,as it stands nobody knows her identity.

Thirdly the police instead of investigating the shooting hurriedly give a ready made conclusion that it was love triangle.

    Kenyans are not fools.

  23. A friend of mine who is in Kenya to try to organize some human aid programmes, just wrote to me that he was almost killed in Eldoret yesterday evening when they were all of the sudden surrounded by some gangs - and only because he could identify himself as a 'member of their tribe' was he saved - but was forced to witness the stoning and subsequent killing of his friend who was belonging to the 'wrong' tribe .......

He is now in Nairobi and still under shock and can't await to board the plane on Friday since he was told to leave Kenya - cutting short all his plans and mission ....

Is this the Kenya we all want? How can we ever live in peace again? And who is there to show us how?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Two phases to it:

    1) If a love affair then one was angered by the conduct of another, in this case the lady passenger.

    2) If political, then No medicine will cure this as no by-election will give Kibaki any win in any of the constituencies affected so far.

    Overall:

Any happenings to day and sooner will be aimed at actuating our fears that something is VERY grossly WRONG and the faster KOFFI did the work, the better.

Kenya is weeping helpless and who will introduce sense to us?

    Nimechoka sana.

  25. Can you give us more info regarding Gitobu Imanyara?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Something has to be done, these few people can not confuse Kenyans by bribery and killings. Rumours are going round that some mps were bribed to spoil ODM votes but they didnt and that they must all die only under different circumstances, it may be true. The first circumstance was murder, now love triangle! The third? I hope they dont run out of excuses before they finish their target. ODM MPS, PLEASE PLEASE, BE CAREFUL AT ALL TIMES. NEVER MOVE AROUND WITH LESS THAN 2 PEOPLE. EVEN IF IT IS EXPENSIVE, LIFE HAS NO SPARE PARTS GENTLEMEN!

    ReplyDelete
  27. The Standard published that the woman in question is treated in the Intensice Care Unit at the Eldoret Hospital at the moment ..... so her identity should be known soon.

If what they said is true ..... that's the big question.

Or will they just tell us that she has died and her family does not want her name disclosed?

I think we all know already the answer to this last question, don't we?

    ReplyDelete
  28. baninga...
You are right no by-election will give Kibaki the majority he needs. But you seem to be forgetting that with the ECK discredited, and the state of affairs being bad, no by-election is going to be held soon. And in the mean time, PNU stands with its 99, ODM which had 104 has now come down to 102...You get my drift?

Why the heck would the MP go for a cop's wife/girlfriend??

    peacemaker....
I don't buy the whole thing. I want peace, but at this rate, it seems "peace" is the bait we are being dangled for before we are put on the hook and cannot wiggle out. If you think my/our words are inflamatory, tell your "government" to protect all Kenyans, especially the leaders.

  29. Now Kibaki has become ' Mwai Mwizi Kibaki, the commander in Chief of the Mungiki forces and the president of the GEMA republic'

    ReplyDelete
  30. Let me make a remark to the sudden illness of the former President:

It is a known fact that he never liked Kofi Annan ..... so Moi decided to call sick (not very seriously of course, but needing a hospital bed) .... and like that he has a nice excuse not only not to meet Annan but also to keep out of any present trouble.

Clever - but should he not also accept that part - if not the major part - of all the present problems, killings etc. is on his own conscious?

If he would not have endorsed Kibaki, not have 'convinced' Uhuru to be on his side, would Kenya really be in the situation it is at present?

And should Moi not also accept that people like Ruto are his own creatures? The same like Kalonzo - and not to forget Mutula Kilonzo ..... and Kibaki himself?

Are they not all his (Moi's) puppets? Dancing to his tunes ? And killing the same way he had tought them in the past?

I know he is an old man now .... but a man who tried to tell Kenyans whom and how to vote just a few weeks ago. So why should he be allowed to 'rest' in his comfortable hospital bed (and for sure soon flying out to some other safe country)?

And don't forget, all this is paid by the money of the Kenyan taxpayers since Moi's allowances also include the private Medical Treatment in and outside Kenya !!!!!!!!!!

So - if ever you cared about Kenya - I ask you to take up your responsibility..... and even if it is the last thing you do, lead Kenya and the Kenyans into a better future ..... into a country where all can live in peace.

I think, you owe this to the people of Kenya - it is your last chance to become the President you always tried us to believe you are .......

A real 'Father of the Nation'.

I know you will not read this blog - you will not read my plea - but maybe some people around you will.

I do not want to give up hope that it is not too late.

This is your chance, Daniel T. arap Moi.

  31. The 'police officer' has turned out to be a CID officer, he was arrested while fleeing towards TURBO. The 'female passenger' is a police constable.

If this was a love triangle why wasn't David Too killed earlier in December before he became too big a threat as an M.P lover?

Think Again Guys, I didn't spend 24+ Years in school doodling about....

    ReplyDelete
  32. honestly honestly it cannot get worse. these people have failed to respect human lives to the extreme, shamelessly shooting while in uniform, yet you take an oath as a police man. the whole thing was organised-love triangle or not, it had to take some form so best way, is where government has failed then the people should decide. the fear of war is accepting dictatorship of being suppressed just to be alive. its sad but the whole thing has been left for the common mwananchi to deal with. lets rise to the occassion- our people cannt die as we watch the double standards

  36. Sometimes its nice to keep the dogs locked in your pants. And what was he doing away from Nairobi. I thought MP's decided to stay in Nairobi till the mediation is done. Instead of barking our own conclusions lets hear whats happening. I doubt its an assassination because they claim to have caught the dude who did it.

And i pray that he didn't go screw with someones girl while Kenyans are waiting for their MP's to help with the peace efforts.

  37. This is a killing organized and orchestrated by the ODM so as to heighten tension and win sympathy. We all know that any harm done to anybody who is an ODM definitely the accusing finger is thoughtlessly directed to PNU, Kibaki. Why wouldn't ODM power-thirsts do anything to seek sympathy, even disrupt the ongoing Anan's talks?
The ODM must answer for the chaos we are in.

  40. My condolences to the family, constituent, ODMers and the entire Country for the loss of these two opposition legislators who have lost their dear lives through the gun.
The word stands that they that shed the blood through the gun shall by the same gun have their blood shed, u p to the fourth generation.
This is why am worried by the tribal animosities created by the politicians and gladly accepted by the population, for the effects of it shall haunt Kenya FOUR generations to come!
At the same time, I implore ODMers not be emotional and sensational during this times by blindly accusing Kibaki for anything and everything. It is not the good thing to do.
Hoping against all hope, am expecting Kenya to rise further than where she has been following the chaos we are experiencing in this country. This has happened such a time like this for a reason, and all things work together for those who love God and are called according to his purpose.
I therefore encourage each one of us not to cast restraint, for the dawn is nigh. The darkest hour of the night is just before the dawn.
    Kenyans, maintain.

  44. I do not think Kibaki will kill an ODM MP from the heart of RV because he knows no PNU MP can be elected in Ainamoi.
But, still ODM have to find better ways to fight Kibaki. I will say it once more; ODM supporters have stones and pangas. The dictator and his cabal have those,... plus guns. Go figure what is really needed to equalize the engagement. You can never negotiate from a position of advantage or disadvantage. What is the inducement for Kibaki to give up and negotiate seriously? Once more, folks figure it out.
But, like Baninga (4:18 AM). Nimechoka sana. I do not want a war to start in Kenya but we are hurtling there so fast that most of us will have no option and take sides. It never had to come to this, we could have separated and stayed as good neighbors. But now we are going to have a long drawn out resolution soaked with the blood of the innocents. I know some of you are praying that the former president (currently a dictator) drops dead. But remember, he good die young

  45. Similarities between Mellitus Were and David Too:
    1. Both were ODM MPs
    2. Both were 1st time MPs
    3. Both killed by the bullet
    4. Both killed in one week
    5. Women involved in both cases
    6. Both were driving and with no body guards.
    Other curious occurrences:
    1. Police have been quick to give reasons for the murders but in both cases ruled out the political angle.
    2. Why was David Too in Eldoret with a woman when all his colleagues were in Orange House in a Parliamentary Group Meeting? Might he have been enticed?
    3. The killer of David Too is said to be a Constable Mauche. He is alive and in "safe custody". David Too and Ms. Chepkwony are dead. Am I reading too much in this?
    4. The total number of votes of the 3 PNU-friendly candidates in Embakassi was far ahead of those of Were. None of them has sent a message of condolences publicly.Am I reading too much in this?

    I smell a rat.

  46. Kofi Annan must be really asking himself, is he in hollywood seeing a script of murders being outplayed infront of him. Doesn't Kibaki and his cronies have a better way to tackle this stolen election. C'mon even a 2 year old can read through this whole botched up killing and investigation.

I think Kenyans must now say enough is enough and must take this whole matter into their hands. Otherwise, this deadly game will never come to an end.

If the so elected leader who occupies the SH believes is the rightful leader, should be taking the lead in Kenya and its quagmire, not running away to some AU meeting and leaving innocent Kenyans dying. The international community if it has enough sense to see the truth, must take immediate action against Kibaki and his cronies, and ensure they do not recognise the illegimate government and condemn it immediately for all the mayhem taking place in our country.

WE CANNOT LET OUR COUNTRY BURN ANYMORE, WE MUST DELIVER JUSTICE NOW, NOT LATER!!!

Enough of this bullshit by Kibaki!!!

    ReplyDelete
  47. May his soul rest in peace. I hope that love triangle story is true, because this is too, too much. Two ODM Mps dead in the space of a few days, along with everyone else.

Every day we are facing something else that leads to more terror.

Kenyans are really being taught a lesson.

    ReplyDelete
  48. ...and what the hell is Kibaki doing in Ethiopia anyway? I have never heard of anyone leaving his house burning to go for a meeting... this is just absurd!!!

    ReplyDelete
  49. I am disappointed that Kibaki has been allowed to attend the AU summit as President of Kenya. This is ironical because apart from Uganda and a few other countries, none of the member states of AU have publicly congratulated Kibaki for getting the presidency. His presence in the AU summit will be taken to mean approval by Africa of his presidency. This does not augur well for the Annan-mediated talks since the same Annan was endorsed by the Chairman of AU to do what he is doing. Most of the African presidents are in office un-popularly (Mu7, Kuffour,Mugabe, etc) and they are quick to welcome one of their type into their meeting. The truth is, EU and USA is more important to Africa than AU in terms of what they can achieve and the assistance and influence they have. Since my esteem as a Kenyan is at its lowest, I agree with Adam Wood and Frazer when they say they will forcefully decide for Kenya if Kenya cannot decide for itself. Kenya is too important to be left to two greedy men (and their psychophants) whose conscience is seared with a hot iron and who cannot even see the low levels to which Kenya has sank in ethnic hatred, economy, deaths, IDPs, loss of property etc etc. Can they fathom the psychological trauma that young, school-going children have gone thro' seeing their parents killed, raped, burnt? Have they ever smelt burning human flesh? Has any of their close relatives been slashed in the head with a panga as they watched? GIVE US A BREAK!
When will I ever raise my head with pride and say I am a Kenyan? When will I readily sing the National Anthem from the bottom of my heart and mean every word of it? When will I be able to confidently welcome my overseas friends to come and visit Kenya? When will I sing Hakuna Matata Kenya again? When will I plan for a journey from Busia to Mombasa without getting enough airtime to "monitor" the road of illegal road-blocks? When will I be able to say out my names without first finding out the ethnic group of my audience? When will I sleep at Sunset Hotel in Kisumu or Blue Post Hotel in Thika without curiously looking at the faces of the people I meet with in the hotel? When will I buy oranges and mangoes from a Kikuyu vendor or milk from a Kalenjin without suspecting that they have been poisoned? WHEN?!!!

  54. Anon @3.55--people make love more under such circumstances. Go to famine-ravaged Turkana and every village is full of young babes and the father's are nowhere in sight. honey, nothing stops nature.

First time MPs are more vulnerable because with their new-found power and wealth, they're a bit on the rampage. Men need to learn that an illicit affair can be your undoing. Were had just dropped off a woman at Imara Daima. The guy had two wives already. This other MP was driving through a volatile town with a woman who was not his wife.

Please read Charles Onyango-Obbo's column in the Nation today. The middle-class will soon start to feel the ripple effect of the anger and discontent. Remember JFK was murdered by a nobody. All MPs must exercise more caution and keep their physical needs in check for now; focus more on finding solutions for Kenya and on safety. Life is too precious.

They cough when these powers tell them "cough", the bleed when these powers tell them "bleed", they fight when they are told "fight". And the people they fight against are their own kind!! This has been the pattern of an African rule since independence. To an African the worst enemies are the citizens. KOFI ANNAN WAS THE UN SECRETARY GENERAL WHEN THAT HAPPENED. HE IS IN KENYA RIGHT NOW!!!

An African will avenge the deaths of those people who died on 9/11 at twin towers, new york city, even if that means killing his own family.

The western powers, despite the fact that they speak different languages, have formed organisations to work together. World Bank, European Union, IMF, NATO(for their defence), G8, G7,..., you name it.

Why are Kenyans killing Kenyans because they speak a diffrent language? Why?

Kenyans are crying, "WHERE ARE UN FORCES?". THE UN FORCES WERE UNABLE TO PROTECT RWANDANS FROM UNLEASHING ITS FURRY by KILLING ABOUT 1,000,000 MEN,WOMEN AND CHILDREN IN A PERIOD OF 100 DAYS. RWANDANS KILLING RWANDANS WHILE UN FORCES WATCHED.

  61. So now that news is coming out that the woman who is now dead is related to Mr. Kimutai, are they going to claim it was a case of mistaken identity? That the "police officer" shot them thinking the woman was his girlfriend?

  62. It looks like the government has a lot of time in their hands to arrange affairs and assassinations. People need to think twice before they say or write on these blogs. Some of these comments just add fuel to an already blazing flame. Why can't we all wait until the investigations are complete, then start pointing fingers. You know, ODM is not as clean as most people want to potray. But time will tell. And on that note, i wish bloggers, starting with Chris and Phil should starting preaching peace unless they want this situation to continue indefinately.

  63. These Kibaki Stone Age tribal pussyfooters gong by the name "anons" blame Raila here saying Mr. Mutai died as a result of "love triangle" and therefore he shouldn't be haste in "condemning it." What a hogwash! Boys, the dead Mrs is the immediate cousin of the assasinated MP. So now you say he was involved in incestous love? What would he do with the daughter of his elder uncle? Shit tribalists. This was cold blood assasination.

Look how the boys of the Police are very "diligent" in getting answers to the assasinations of ODM MPs. The police even claimed that Mr. Mutai pleaded with the killer to spare the girl before he shot him. Which Video were they using? And why is it that the Eldoret DC, DO, OCPD, OCS and Intelligene Chief are all Kikuyus apart from one Kioko (Kamba) who was posted there 4 days ago to organise the assasination with Kikuyustan administrators? I myself know Mr. Mutai. And let the ugly Kibaki know that this will not be in vain. The truth will emerge sooner than later and he will rule his enclave and not Kenya. Dignity has its price.

MEMBER FOR OTHAYA TO JUST HANG ON TO THE SEAT AND CALL FOR PARLIAMENTARY ELECTIONS ONLY. HE HAS PROVED TO BE A DICTATOR, HE WOULD HAVE SUCCEEDED WITH THAT, MAYBE. THERE WAS NO NEED FOR HIM TO CALL FOR AN ELECTION WHEN HE KNEW HE WAS GOING TO CLING ON TO POWER WHATEVER THE OUTCOME. IT IS LIKE ADVERTISING FOR A VACANCY IN AN OFFICE WHEN YOU KNOW THE SEAT IS OCCUPIED? BUT SINCE HE MADE A MISTAKE AND DID IT. HE WILL LET THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE RULE. IF HE WON FAIRLY AS HIS FOLKS PUT IT, LET HIM CALL FOR A RE-RUN! I THINK NOW IT WILL NOT BE A NARROW WIN BUT WITH A LANDSLIDE SINCE THE KAMBA GUY HAS JOINED THE ILLEGITIMATE BASKET???? TRY IT HON. MWAI, DON'T BE AFRAID MAN, MARTHA AND MICHUKI ARE STILL THERE. NOTHING HAS CHANGED!

  67. Karume and other leaders have paid
for the training of Mungiki to attack Luos, Luhyas, Muslims, Maasai and Kalenjin
Communities. The plan is complete and its execution is soon.

From reliable sources, the plan is to retaliate the mayhem that was
witnessed in the post-election violence where Kikuyu community was
targeted by these tribes. It is said that the attacks will start slowly
in Nairobi as mere criminal gang but will intensify with time. A number
of Mungiki members have been provided by police uniforms and will knock
doors at night. Areas mostly targeted are Mathare, Dandora, Umoja,
Kayole, Embakazi, Dagoreti and Kibera. and Police will be slow in
response and ways have been crafted to show that police have been
overwhelmed. In the streets mungiki members will be planted among police
officers with sole responsibility to kill anybody who is protesting.

Kenyans of goodwill are required to condemn this plan for genocide and
please alert all Kenyans to be careful. This not just a propaganda it is
real and police, leaders, and the public should not remain silent. All
    night travels should be reduced.

    Concerned Citizen.

NB: MATHARE WILL BE ATTACKED ON 13TH FEBRUARY 2008. PLEASE TAKE CARE.
