Fiasco, Chaos and Blood Bath in Polls

All the pretence to Kenya's political maturity was unmasked in today's party nominations. The hot and charged contests in almost every polling station let trails of blood that make previous election violence look like Sunday school chorus singers.

The scenes stretched from the absurd to the most comical. Sample this: an ex-MP emerges from the blues with stuffed ballot boxes and shamelessly proceeds to demand counting. On his protest from his opponent a brawl ensures with his guards drawing guns on the ready. Other places reported abduction of return officers so the scoundrels ended up declaring themselves winners.

The sad sad tale from the long-awaited primaries was simply a FIASCO for lack of a stronger term. To say it was chaotic is an understatement. And no political party was spared the nasty tag, they were all in the mix of bloodletting.

No weapon nor trick was spared as most aspirants engaged in all the known and unknown dirty tricks to win. And the POOR organization from respective party offices didn't help matters either. In some places voting material had not arrived by night fall and your guess is as good as mine what the scenario was and will continue to be.

Political Armageddon
The dearth of any trace of civility only goes a notch higher to explain the high premium attached to elective politics in Kenya. And why not fight tooth and nail to jump from rags to millionaire in less than a year?

If we thought our politicians were scoundrels then we better brace ourselves for the absolute political theatre of the unrivalled absurd. Next parliament promises to be populated by people who know why they are there: EXPEDIENCY per excellence. The next 40+ days will surely see Kenyans drowning in their own blood. God save Kenya.

  1. This guys need to have proper party structure and hire project managers.

    1. They should have used some of those helicopters to deliver the ballot papers and boxes.

    2. Should have bought proper ballot boxes and printed the ballot papers properly.

3.Should have provided security to the election officials.

    4. Areas around the voting centers should have been under tight security , to deter people from walking in with crude weapons.

I hope for the best during the general elections.

  3. Patronage politics is not only outdated, it is a very stupid venture. All these problems ladies and gentlemen arise from the secretariats of the parties involved when some old fashioned tribal kingpins masquarading as party leaders or party presidential candidates decide to have preferred candidates. I am not going to sit there and watch as you get nomination certificate just because your sister is dating the party leader. I am going to make you bleed for it.

First of all, the idea of direct nomination can only work for born losers. If someone is a presidential candidate, a party leader or something close to that, he should be popular at the grassroot. Why in this world should he be promised direct nomination? Is that not denying the people a right to choose who should fly the flag of THEIR party? We have heard before that some party leaders receive bribes from aspiring candidates and believe it or not that is what is happening. That is why we are behaving like some stone age proconsuls.

A nomination fee of Kshs 100000 is HUGE by every standard. Where the hell did the party secretariats take that money if candidates are printing their own ballot papers or photocopying the same? That money was not put into proper use . That is all I can say.

  4. Having read that three of Moi's sons run for a seat in the next Parliament, has really made me feel sad .....

Because this means that Moi is not stopping to try to have control.

So just in case Kibaki does not make it, at least his sons will be there to 'protect' him .... and if Gideon does not make it, then the other two can step in,

Of course, if all three make it, even better ............

And then there is Biwott and his schemes ..... he is putting his wife Prof. Kamar into the race, her brother and even his daughter ..... what a joke .....

Moi and Biwott must really believe Kenyans to be stupid fools .....

So here is my appeal: please wake up ... stop falling into the traps of the likes of Moi, Biwott and others .... choose wisely .....

It's your life and that of your children and grandchildren we are talking about ......

I therefore beg you, vote for a change .... and the only one I can see right now to bring to you 'some' change - and read well 'some change' - is Raila Odinga ....

It is a sad thing to say - I know -but the only thing I can say right now ............

    God save Kenya...

  5. Marrianne Brinner, glad to see you around. You are obviously in high spirits and the doctors must have done a good job.

I will say again tha I am a staunch opponent of dynastic politics. So Moi and family, Biwott and family should know better and stop 'taking Kenyans as stupid fools'. I fully agree with you Marianne. When you go ahead and say "Kenyans should wake up..." I am tempted to think that you are one of those who think we are some stupid fools. The few years you have lived in Kenya do not make you an insider lady. You may know stuff about Kenya but if you had respect for Kenyans, you would acknowledge the fact that they may be asleep but then you are not the person to awake them. That's not your business.
