Moi's Grand Theft Ignored, For Now

archive

The Daily Nation, today nervously carried a headline detailing the revelations of the leaked Kroll Associates report about the billions that former President Moi is said to have accumulated illegally. The story was carried on the front page although jittery (with good reason) editors watered it down somewhat by implying in the headline that the "looting" had been carried out by only by Moi henchmen and not Moi himself.

Moi has has often rushed to lawyers for refuge through threats to sue and there is no doubt that he must have taken legal advice on the recent developments. However it will...

  2. Who are Moi's henchmen? they are all in ODM. The only clean of the henchmen, Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka left ODM a while ago. So clean is this gentleman that not spin has taken effect since he left the dictatorial party and Raila swang a blank cheque to Imanyara, nothing negative has come his way.

Efforts to connect his Kalonzo Foundation to the government have bommeranged and now....let the campaigns begin. Uchafu, fitina, vita, uongo na vyote vimeanza leo, sorry jana.

the release of the report, if anything, will consolidate the Rift Valley bloc and it will be percieved as an effort against the former president and his hencmen. They are all in the Rift Valley

  3. The Kroll report is about to take a spin that will change the political landscape of Rift Valley. The report is a live wire for any Presidential Candidate in Kenya today. No wonder Standard ignored it (read headline). As for the Nation, it was serious news but i'm not sure how they will sustain it in the headlines. I agree with Anon this report has government spin doctors written all over it!

  4. I was also thinking about the timing of the leak of this report.. on day before odm-kenya nomination and two days before odm nomination. The last 2 events have clearly overshadowed that leak. I think that to inflict maximum damage, Raila and company should have waited until mtukutu rais moi started campaining for Kibaki, and the released the report. Right now, Raila and company should have just basked in the good publicity of peaceful and democratic nominations. Right now, Kibaki and company can try to assess possible damage of this report and if they think the damage might be too much, they would just ask moi to chill out and not publicly campaigh for them.
